|Gw0Mike||Late post but I'm confused as to why this is FP. Best Buy has always had this laptop at this price...|

|try2catchmike||What kind of battery life are you guys getting out of this? Can you take out the extra 650m for extra battery life? Im talking about dimmed screen, browsing the web, typing documents and light youtube usage? I know this is a gaming rig but I would like to be able to take it to school and have it last for a couple of hours.|

I am returning mine to amazon as well.
Bezel around LCD had a buckle/bubble at the bottom. Slight scratch in lid. And the power supply was used.
Also, I could not figure out how to install win 8 pro on a newly installed SSD. Tried for 6 hrs. Used external DVD with win 8 pro DVD. Didn't work.
Tried to create a backup of original system info using Lenovo's one key software onto a USB flash drive. I did that. But still couldn't get that to install on my new SSD.
Read forums. Googled. All to no avail.
Called Lenovo. They are totally useless.
So back it goes.

|helpdeskhonky||That's a real shame because I ordered mine from Best Buy and got it 2 days later, even though I picked the free shipping which was supposed to be 5-7 days.|

I am throwing in the towel folks. Such a shame. Specs rock for the price but if it takes more than 3 shipments to get me a good one, I lack the patience. Some on the Lenovo forums are on laptop number six and still having problems. Here's the summary I sent to amazon about the third Y500 and its problems.
Well, third time was not a charm. This Y500 has at least one key that is not properly backlit. I can see the LEDs but they do not light up. Very noticeable when the keyboard brightness is at the low setting. There is a disturbing amount of backlight leakage on the right side of the screen . I did not see this with the first pre-scratched Y500 I returned . The sli feature keeps disabling itself for no reason. The trackpad becomes unresponsive for upwards of 30 seconds at a time , not often but enough to be annoying.
Also, while you did ship the Lenovo box inside another box, the Lenovo box was a tiny bit damaged, but nothing major. The most concerning thing was that the factory seal was opened when I got this! It was peeled up and not sticking to the box. I am now convinced Lenovo is selling refurbished/used/returned laptops as new. It's the only thing that makes sense. Oh also, the bag that the power supply came in was in very poor condition. It looks like someone dragged it thru a parking lot. Makes me highly suspicious. Luckily the lid was not scratched this time . The fingerprints on the screen came off easily. There were a few hairline scratches on the plastic surrounding the right speaker but nothing major. Looks like this is going back. I am giving up for now. I will wait for Lenovo to fix their quality control issues and/or get slapped with class action lawsuit for selling shoddy products.

Just got mine in today. Ordered it on Sunday and just came in, damn BB is fast lol. So far so good, this thing is like ElectroLUST! I'm going from XP to Win8. So far not bad, def don't care for the MetroUI. I just go to Desktop mode off the bat. MetroUI is cool, but I prefer to navigate through Desktop.
Question though, there's no OS discs or any discs that come with this machine. So what happens if I have to reinstall my OS or what not?

I am sure you will be fine nerrap. I am taking all the crap so u dont have to
I lived with a bump in the bezel on my Hp for over 2 years because newegg wouldnt take it back and hp sucks. I just dont want to settle this time you know. I want to be the one to cause the first scratch or imperfection
Other than my bad luck issues, the laptop is a sexy beast. Trackpad is one thousand times better than my Hp DV6.

I want my new laptop to look brand new especially at a thousand bucks. Chipped parts, funky bezels and scratched plastic are not acceptable.

If the first one didnt have that bezel issue I would keep it at this point and slap a zagg skin over the lid scratches.

Oh I see what you are saying. I should have read your post more carefully concerning the scratches and such.
I have a Lenovo Z580 that came from Amazon and I believe it was shipped in just the Lenovo box. The laptop itself had a lot of that plastic "cling" stuff over various plastic parts and it definitely looked brand new.

Wow that sucks! Must be cheaper for them to exchange a few damaged in transit then to pack them all in a second box.

|xninjagrrl||I am officially doomed. My second Y500 came and the box was even more dented. In fact, there is a hole I can fit my fist thru. Naturally, the laptop is damaged. Chip on the lid. Chip on the trackpad. Scratches all over the shiny black plastic around the speakers (looked used/refurbished honestly). And huge scratch on space key. I will try once more then give up. Lenovo needs to use a better box. Period. Although, I am unsure how shipping could have caused the problems on my second one. It just looked used.|
