Just cancelled my order was well. The TD agent said she "this item does not appear to have a rebate." She graciously cancelled my order.
Note, starting today (2/17/2013) Office Depot has a 1 TB Canvio External Hard Drive on sale for $69.99 = online as well as in stores. I stopped by this morning and picked one up.

|kalel603||Just cancelled my order via TigerDirect chat. Too bad, I really needed a cheap portable hard drive.|

For most desktop scenarios, I feel like it would be a waste of money to "upgrade" from this drive.
This has been 'cussed and discussed on SD so much that I guess I'm tired of it and didn't give a good answer, but that's the way I feel about it.
If you think it's no good because it's "ancient" or that newer models have gooder synthetic benchmarks, then don't buy it.
Get something you'll be happy with.
That leaves more for people who know why they might want to own this ancient drive.
Edit: BTW, thanks for the rebate info. Didn't know it was good for quantity two. Decisions, decisions...

=As to some of the FUD in the thread. I was raising #ell back in the Onrebate & Worldwide rebate days, but it's been so long since I didn't receive a (Tiger Direct rebate) 5 years +. There have been other issues outside of rebates with billing issues and some shady business but again that is becoming a past issue. Buy, don't buy because for every deal that people pass up bc it's got a TD on the title means the better / longer chance I & others have of getting in on it.
When it comes to SSD this is the benchmark for reliability. Not because it hasn't been on the market for long so we don't know (see nearly infinite problems with current drives and controllers). This is Intel controller & Intel MLC NAND superior to SLC NAND of today. I'll stack up a truly reliable drive vs a slightly faster drive that has a uncertain reliability record any day.
The die is larger and while in things like graphics cards or processors die shrinks mean good things this is not currently the case with NAND.
"a very Old model" "...is Ancient" - when it comes to SSD we've passed just a fraction of time. The speed increase from mechanical hard drives to SSD is a vast leap, even though the speeds don't look stellar on paper that ultra low latency makes responsiveness in systems amazing.
The progression from earlier SSDs like this to the newest SSD drives on paper looks vast (after you look beyond the newer drives reliability problems that is if you can) but in the real world use it's extremely narrow performance gap. HDD--------- --------------- ------------- SSD-SSD
Now that the Blk friday sales are done it's hard to find another with this size at this price, that's as close to as reliable as these drive.

20 minutes listening to muzac and useless offers, and 30 seconds to cancel.
Thanks for the heads up and advice.

|smartsder||I was thinking about upgrading my laptop hardrive with the SSD, but after reading the comments in here, I think I will have to pass. Will look for newer models even though I might have to pay a little more.|

The rare exception to this is when a rebate is added in the middle of a day. I can recall when there were some FAR Ultra earbuds where the rebate instruction form didn't show up until mid-day, and then the registration opened the following day at 5 AM EST.
However, that isn't the case here since the instruction form has been around for over a few weeks. If it does become active in the system, I will let you know.

|metalmayhem9||Anyone noticed that the Intel SSD TD product page says rebate valid for one rebate vs the rebate form saying its 2?|

|indianexpert||just cancelled my order...but I think eventually the rebate will show up..I will order when I see rebate up or esle who cares.|

Lesson learned: next time don't let a hurt butt blind you to any valid points within a dissenting opinion.
FTR I don't really have a dog in this fight, I just really really wish the $50 Elements was available from pretty much any other vendor on the planet - it's not the rebate, or even TD necessarily but rather the meeting of the twain which raises a billion trillion tiny red flags...good luck to the trigger pullers tho...

I'm probably in for another, but if you don't know why you might want this, don't buy it.
TDMVP73, thanks for the heads-up.

The Offers are as follows: TD-8489 (1 TB), TD-8477 (2 TB), TD-8517 (500 GB)
This is not good for those who ordered. I would suggest contacting TigerDirect to cancel your order tomorrow or stop shipment (if necessary), as online registration is definitely not an option at this time.
If the rebates were going to be valid, they should have updated by now. 4MyRebate won't be open until Monday morning (or Tuesday if they are observing president's day), for those wishing to try phone registration.
However, I would not advise taking this gamble. It's best to move on and wait for another deal.
In this case, I was wrong... so I concede to blowout that TigerDirect invalidated these rebates prior to them going live (for whatever reason). For future TigerDirect Western Digital Hard Drive deals... DO NOT purchase them until 5 AM EST when 4MyRebate updates.
I will post this in the Wiki and alert the mods as well.
