|Chr0n0s_90||mother effer. I just bought ONE for 3.50 on Amazon the other day. It sucks too because they're addon items meaning you have to buy $25 worth of stuff for them to ship.|

Protip for mixing up your own soap: Hit a CVS for Williams Mug Soap and look online for Kiss My Face Lime Green..They sell it a lot of stores, a tube will set you back about $5 and last forever. After you mix up a lather, squeeze in a drop or two of kmf and try that out

Buying a $30 safety razor is a big investment for something you can't be sure will help, I know. That's why I started with a cheap option. Bic Sensitive single blade disposables are ~$3 for a dozen at Walmart or a drug store. Be gentle your first time or you'll Ginsu your face. You're used to having to shave hard, but a single blade doesn't require so much pressure. There's a gap behind the blade so it won't clog. That gap is your saving grace for thick hair, but it also means it's easy to be too aggressive.
FWIW, it takes me 10 minutes to shave with a brush, mug of soap or cream, and a DE razor. I'm a little OCD about shaving, so that's not much longer than it took me with a Mach 3 and a can of goo. I make 2 passes, just as I had to do with the Mach 3. It literally takes 1 minute to build a lather and 1 minute to brush your face (brushing helps raise the hairs). That's 2 extra minutes of shaving time. The first time, it might cost you 10 minutes to figure things out. Then it might take you 5 extra minutes for a dozen shaves to figure out what works best for you. After you find a soap and brush you like and do it a few times, it's 2 extra minutes. And for many people, it's 2 extra minutes that mean a lot less discomfort.
If you can shave dry, with cold water and no soap, or with a rusty butter knife comfortably, then sure, maybe DE will cost you a lot more time. But you probably don't need a $2.50 cartridge to shave, then, and could buy cheap disposables for a fraction of the price. But if you spend the time to put hot water on your face, lather up, and carefully dry/strop/etc your cartridges, DE isn't really costing you any time.
I'd argue for everyone to try a single blade (DE or Bic Sensitive), even if they keep using crap-in-a-can. Not everyone wants to fuss with a brush, that's fine. It's still cheaper and less irritating for most people. Just using a different razor doesn't cost you any extra time.
