Amazon lowered their price also to 309. I called and got the difference.

I got this one a few months ago. It records great video. The only downside I see to it is that it won't work in tight spaces (low depth of field)
Here's a video I made with the M500 in low light conditions:

I'm filming a wedding (first one) with a DSLR in a few months and looking for abackup / secondary camcorder.
Been definitely wanting something with the CMOS sensor.

the software is only worth $30 street price.
so this deal for just the camera is $280, still 30 more than the 250 deal.

|buttmanx||Ahh I just ordered this from Amazon a couple of days ago for 339. So mad.|

I picked up an M500 when it was on sale at Amazon (for a day) for $249. I used to have the M300, for reference, but it wasn't very good in low light. So far, this one is much better. The primary downside to this one is the relatively poor focal range (starts a little close at ~40mm equiv and only 10x zoom). Personally I'm not a fan of touch screen controls either, but that seems to be the norm recently. Also you can't power this one directly from the wall -- no A/C jack. You remove the battery and place it in the charger.
Edit: btw the difference between this model and the M50-52 is this one doesn't have any onboard memory, nor does it have WiFi.

Fyi... I'm seeing the price in the OP in my cart Maybe the issue was corrected after a couple people called.
For those that don't want to keep the software it looks like you can get $40-$50 on fleebay....

I got a refurb from this dead thread, super cheap

It has the Canon HD CMS PRO sensor that is found on the $1,000 Canon Vixia G10. The Canon HD CMOS PRO seems to operate better in low light/indoors than higher megapixel sensors. the M500 also has a half-decent battery, about 1hr+ of use time, versus the Canon Vixia R300 w/ like 30 min of battery time.
Downsides are from that same HD CMOS PRO sensor. 2.17 megapixel stills, if you planned on using a video camera for stills. And only 10x zoom.
