WARNING!!!!! POTENTIAL SCAM
I just got my lens from 47st Photo today (Their address is 3 blocks from me. the place is basically shady looking storage house..
1635 McDonald Avenue
Brooklyn, NY 11230
The REAL newer version of the lens is 62mm diameter (even listed under details on the newegg item page)
The one I got sent was a 72mm diameter version which is the OLDER MODEL
THEY COULD BE SENDING THE OLD ONE in hopes some customer will not notice/know any better!
VERIFY YOUR LENS WHEN YOU GET IT!!!
Post here for result.
I'm going to contact them directly for an exchange tomorrow and see how this will play out. I don't want to be paying some BS fee for return or restocking fee.

anyone find any good comparison between this and the Tamron 18-270 lens? they seem to be direct competitor (though the Tamron is alittle more expensive)
I found some comparison but not sure if they are talking about this specific Sigma lense or the older version of the lens

So why is the larger one less expensive?

New to DSLR world
I have a canon T3i with:
18mmm-35mm lens (came with camera)
55mm-250mm lens (the one that usually go on sale for ~$180-$200)
this looks like it will do the job of both (now I don't have to carry both and constantly swap between wide angel and zoom lense). Anyone know if the image quality of this is better or worst than shot with the two existing lens I got?
thanks in advance. just ordered and can't wait

|vadang||I have the original version in a Sony A mount w/ A57. Is it worth it to upgrade? I have been reasonably happy with it, but if the IQ is significantly better, I will sell my old one and get the new one.|

Whether you are on a budget or simply dont want to bring all your expensive glass. With a 18-250mm, you can get pretty wide and at the same time, have good reach for those candid shots or details. Furthermore, with the Macro function, you can get decent closeups.
However, like all things, you give up the sharpness of a macro or the speed of a prime.
