|clutterking||Does anyone else's hard drive sound like it's spinning up every few seconds? It might be nothing but it's driving me bonkers.|

Three posts in a row from me. People are gonna wonder if I'm nuts....
As mentioned above, I just received my X202e and have started figuring Win 8 out, using the touch interface, of course.
I'm a total novice with Metro apps, so if anyone has suggestions, please feel free.
In the meantime, I've tweaked the machine up a fair bit and it certainly is very responsive with darn decent power.
I haven't mastered battery saving yet, but that's my next project.
I've heard conflicting reports from as little as less than 3 hours, to as high as 6 hours, so I'll be giving it my best shot to get the latter.
It's a fantastic device, super beautiful, incredibly well built, works like a charm.... I mean, what more could a person ask for at that price point?
Everyone who sees it, just goes "WOW", and that's with the lid closed (I have the champagne coloured version).
If you consider that those little Atom powered 10 inch netbooks typically sold for $300, and that this one has a metal build, a processor that is 4 to 8 times as powerful, 4 gigs of ram instead of 1, a 500 gig hard drive instead of a 160 or 250, USB 3 ports, HDMI out, 2 inches bigger, and the clincher... a touchscreen, I think that the extra $170 is easily justified. (quite the understatement)

I just received my X202e, and have a question.
Do these machines have accelerometers?
I was trying a drift racing car game that was set to "tilt" by default, but it doesn't work.
I don't know if it's the game or if this Asus simply doesn't have an accelerometer.

Like you said.
You just got a touchscreen laptop for $270. That's hard to beat.

Is there such a thing as an X200e, and if so, what CPU does it have?
03-29-2013 09:38 AM
HOLY COW! It was $259.99
I was confused while picking it up at the store why the printed out receipt says $259.99 when the BB employee asked to sign it. She said that she didn't know and suggested that I call up the online store. I went a long and walked with my laptop after checking it to ensure that it's the right one. The sticker showed that it was an x202e, but the actual device was an x200e.
I've just checked the balance on my bank accounts and discovered a $43 credit by BB.
$259 for a touch screen laptop.

I guess the link I referenced earlier was not a typo after all. At $500 it seems a little high. I just listed my new S200e w/o DVDRW on Amazon for $399.
I couldn't resist any longer and opened my X202e. So far they seem to perform identical. I will advise any significant differences later. If there are any.

re cpu q200e
yes it does, needed to use a magnifying glass to see it, gee do you think they could make it smaller?
03-28-2013 04:53 PM
Does it also say it's a Q200e?
PS: I have found a couple of websites that show the Q200E-BSI3T08 as having the 3rd generation i3 .
I guess we'll have to watch for the numbers than come after Q200e, to be able to distinguish then,

new unit from bb
Not to get involved in a cpu war but the new ,boxed q200e I got from bb after they sent the wrong refub unit to the store is a 3rd gen i3,printed on the box and shows it in the computer,so the units still for sale at bb that are new have the latest i3 in them.they are going for 499.00

The fact of the matter is, that Asus has probably manufactured more machines and parts for Apple, than any other company.
I mean, Apple doesn't even manufacture computers, whereas Asus does, in fact, it's the only computer company amongst the big brands, that does.
As dzap has so accurately pointed out, you have to compare devices in the same class and price range, and if you investigate Asus' high end machines, you may be surprised to find out that they give you more for your money than Apple.
I don't want to hijack this thread too much, but if our posts, serve to open your eyes to some realities of the high tech world, and it then in turn, helps you to make better buying decisions, then it's worth it.
Rolls Royce has never made a compact 4 cylinder economy car, just as Apple won't be pumping out cheap Chinese style pieces of junk, but not having a low end in their line up, doesn't mean that their high end is any better than anyone else's.. you know what I mean?
03-28-2013 11:16 AM
comes with 1 year accidental damage included. Pretty exclusive to any manufacturer out there. Asus does a top notch job with their high-end line.
...it's like saying "Oh yeah, my Mercedes is so much better than my Honda because it costs 3x more." They're both cars and will get you to the same place.
If you're going to compare you need to compare within the same price ranges. When you're car shopping for Lexus, Mercedes, and BMW, you're not also looking at Hyundais, Kias, Chevys. Be realistic and compare price points directly.

I am very positive toward Thinkpad (in IBM time) and probably I should wait for the products similar to Q200E from Lenovo.
03-28-2013 09:48 AM
Yeah. Apple's $300 touchscreen laptops are way way better.
