|bargainfinder09||Has anyone dared to order an extended battery for this laptop off ebay? I am unsure if it will work and\or \fit in these models as some state something about Bios software recognition. I do seem to feel my battery kinda loose, not completely stable, somewhat wobbly how about yours?|

anyone finding their power connection extremely loose and hard to keep connected? wondering if this is something to contact sony for, or if it's just how this thing is made.
I've got it plugged all the way in, and using a wireless mouse and it keeps getting unplugged every 4-5 minutes (i'm not even touching it!)

I should have mine in hand from ebay this week, hoping it'll make the keys feel a little more durable, I'm a heavy typer!
Should be ordering the RAM this week finally, want it for the graphics stuff I work with.

I ordered it on Ebay - Buy 1 Get 1 even. However there is a 3 to 4 week shipping time (from China/HK). Just search for Sony Vaio 17 Inch Keyboard Skin.. there are manymany choices -- I picked one that was featurd on You TUbe and is supposedly for BackLit Keyboards.
You do not need to buy new WIndows if you switch to an SSD. You should really do as 1st step create your Laptops Recovery Disks (a backup of the factory installed OS). You need 3 DL DVDs or 6 Single layer ones or at least a 32GB USB Stick. It is in the Sony Vaio Care application. Be sure to update Sony Vao Care first before you create your OS Image(s).
Then once you have your SSD - simply "reinstall" from DVD or USB -- dpeending on where you backed up yourFactory OS. No need to reenter licenses, etc...

Where did u get your backlit friendly keyboard cover/skin? Could you provide any link perhaps? when you said you are planning to get a new SSD to replace the original, will this means that you will also need to buy new windows??
as if not, how do you install the windows in the new SSD that you are getting?

Haaah -- mine also has the Radeon 7650M (the same as teh Core i7 models!) Scores 6.7 for both Aero and Gaming on WEI! I am starting to really love this Lappy ... Awaiting good deals on a 128 or 256GB SSD as I think the bottleneck is the Slow Disk...
I Love Windows 8 BTW -- it's really an acquired taste and getting used to thingy.. Once you get the true philosophy and design behind Windows 8 -- You'll love it -- even with just the mouse or touchpad onthe Lappy!
This actually prompted me to finally update my Living Room HTPC (hooked up to a 70 inch Aqous) -- and everyone in the family loves it more than Windows 7! I bought the Logitech Windows 8 Touchpad to vastly improve the experience --- and everyone agrees we now have an even better Living Room Smart TV OS!
Linky to Logitech Touchpad (Got it for $39.99 last year) but simialr Lenovo Win8 Pads are also available for $25 when on sale: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Re...B0093H4WT6
Back to this amazing Sony Budget Full HD Lappy...
I have ordered a backlit friendly KeyBoard Cover/Skin to give it added protection
I plan to dual boot this with Windows 7.. I tried Windows 7 already using an old Notebook SATA disk from a broken Lappy and Windows 7 runs awesome...! Sony provides Windows 7 Drivers too....!
I need Windows 7 as lots of Tools at Work (VPN, ESXi 5 VI Client for my Home ESXi Lab does not work yet under Windows 8...)
I am also exploring just having my Windows 7 environment as a VM (Hyper-V) but I thought this is only available under Windows 8 Pro -- this correct/true?

How about much improved file transfer dialog in W8?
You can unplug the source, then plug it back in, and your file transfer will continue..
I can go on, but I don't feel like this..
it is your constitutional right not to like W8, and who am I to argue?
Like I said, they did not accept you neither in heaven nor in hell so they sent you here to SD forums in order to frustrate me
