I have both the regular and pet brush with mine as well as both types of filters. My Neato (kids named it Clean-x) lives upstairs where it's all carpeted. We have a big lab that sheds a LOT.
The pet brush was more hassle than it was worth. I'd have to clean everything out of the bristles about once a week. The normal squeegee type brush works just fine. It picks up a ton of hair and there's zero maintenance. The regular filter is also plenty. I'm still on my original one after 2 months of daily cleanings. I use my normal stand up Dyson vac hose to clean the filter.
We only had one issue where we have to use the magnetic strip. My son's bureau is exactly the right height where Clean-x thinks he can fit under, but his bump (with the laser) gets stuck every time.
We still have to clean the dust bin every day (2 max).. I'm amazed at how much dust & dog hair this thing can find!
Highly recommend the Neato, but all the extra filter & brush upgrades... most people could probably do without.

I want to buy a neato but I have no pets. Would buying XV14 be waste of battery/lifetime/purpose or its just a pet brush I dont have to use. I will be dealing with a robotic vacuum first time and dont want to muddle with a wrong one.
Appreciate expert advise.

If so, double thanks (though now I moved away to XBMC)

If you're not a current member but have registered for Costco's website in the past, give it a shot. Worked for me.
Also, FYI, Neato announced new versions due in April:
I still got one anyways because I'm tired of waiting (read: cleaning) and there didn't appear to be any major upgrades warranting the price difference in the new models. Plus, the Costco warranty with additional accessories are nice.

|joesixpack||I have the xv21 which is like the 14 but in white from what I gather... It's really smart compared with the two uselessly dumb Roombas we have... Also feature USB connection and upgradable firmware... We had a problem with one wheel and Neato support was hassle free with advance replacement and a smile.|

Got the Neato XV11 + Pet Kit from Groupon a month or two back. Loving it. Picks up a ridiculous amount of pet hair, even after doing a cleaning with a Dyson.
All the Neato's are pretty much the same, the only major difference aside from color is the Brush/Filter used. So a XV11 + Pet Kit = XV21. Pet kit is totally worth it, especially for the pet brush.
Works best if you have an uncluttered space for it to clean. No random stuff on the ground, pet toys, cords, etc.
If you get it, let it charge for about 24 hours. It has to learn the battery capacity over time, so give it about ~10 dockings before deciding the battery is wack and calling support. When the battery works itself out, you should get at least 30 min on carpets, 45 on hardwood.
You can reuse the filters and clean the Neato with a regular vacuum or handvac. Also be sure to vacuum the brush belt motor area, it likes to attract pet hair. It might seem like a lot initially, but it goes down after a week as the Neato clears out any areas with built up pet hair that you otherwise missed.
It's also really loud. like a regular vacuum cleaner loud.

I've used both... neither. But...
we have stone floors, and lots of cats. there was no noticeable difference without the pet brush. however, I could see that the pet hair brush might work better on carpet, since it could potentially grip the hair better and pull it out of the carpet.
we love ours, keeps our house looking so much nicer.

I just noticed that the one on BF was the regular kit and this one from OP is the Pet series so yes, it is even better value than it was before.
