|lowtoast||Well, fake or not they're very good and the seller is more than willing to correct for his own mistakes.|

|dremy1011||Mine came in the mail today. Ordered and paid on the 15th. Leather smells great (like it should). Everything looks legit.|

I ordered the dark grey and the navy blue leather. Upon receiving I immediately compared the covers to cover's my co-workers purchased direct from an Apple Store. They look and feel exactly the same. I was in the mall today so decided to bring them with me to the Apple Store and have the "Geniuses" take a look. I said I got them as a gift wanted to verify authenticity. They inspected the covers briefly and said they are 100% genuine and authentic covers.
One cover was completely sealed in the package while the other was clearly opened but appears to have never been used. A sticker on one of the packages leads me to believe these covers were returned to Apple Stores and somehow this guy got a hold of them.
If you believe you received a fake cover, someone probably purchased a cover from Apple and got away with returning a fake inside. Unfortunately you're one of the few who got a bad one from the batch. However, from what I've heard, this seller takes strong pride in his business and will send you a replacement if you got a bad one.
If anyone has any questions or would like some pictures let me know.

Second ditto to this post. Mine looks like the authentic one shown in these pictures. Also has a serial number on it. Definitely seems 100% real. I compared my serial number to the previous few posts and it is different as well.

I have an authentic green smart cover, and the micofiber looks and feels identical (other than the color) to the black leather cover.
I will say though, the cover smells horrible. I'm going to lock it up with some vinegar for a while. Hopefully that gets rid of it.

One of the complaints I have seen about the fake Smart Covers is that the magnets that hold the hinge onto the iPad are much weaker, and don't hold the cover on properly. If your cover falls off easily, it is likely fake. If it stays attached, especially when folded back to hold the iPad upright at an angle, it is most likely a real Smart Cover, but could still be the polyurethane model, rather than leather. That might explain the cheaper feel to the material on yours.
Note that many of the clone cases and covers online say in the title that they are leather, but the description says they are "PU leather." PU leather is polyurethane, a synthetic material, and is NOT leather. Yet the people selling these hope you won't notice the difference. They are really lying to you if they are selling polyurethane and calling it leather. It isn't. If you find a case or cover on ebay that says leather in the title, but the description says it is "PU leather," I recommend filing a report with ebay that the item is not described accurately. I just found a Smart Cover for an iPad on ebay, item 300827872287. The title says "For Apple iPad 4 New iPad 3 2 Smart Cover Magnetic Leather Case Sleep Wake Stand." It is $8.89 with free shipping, and includes a stylus and screen protector. The description says it is "PU leather."
If you want to report an item to ebay as falsely advertised, you can go to the ebay listing. On the right side of the screen, a little distance down from the top (I had to scroll down 1 screen), there is a link that says "Report item." If you click on that, you get the "File a Report" screen. On the first pull down menu, "Listing practices." Second, "Search and browse manipulation." Third, "Misleading title." Then click "Continue," and you get a text box where you can type in a short description such as "Title says it is leather, description says it is PU leather, which is a synthetic material, not real leather." Then you can click on "Send report." If ebay gets enough complaints about a product, they might tell the seller to check the wording and fix it.

My experience has been that most items get delivered within the stated average delivery time, but I have seen some take a week or two longer than the the stated average delivery time. If the seller has brought the packages to the post office and they are packaged and labeled correctly, the seller can't control delivery time, yet ebay buyers can ding sellers for slow delivery times, even if the package were brought to the post office on time.
