Blech you're right! Well, my advice for people who're unable to get the kit, just grab the body and get a used lens if you want to go cheap. I managed to snag the 18-55 Pentax WR lens for $150 a few months back. Strangely the price for the lens has gone up, but you can get some nice cheap lenses from Adorama.
Also, I hear great things about the Sigma APO lens. Waiting for mine to arrive:
So with an 18-55 plus the Sigma you'll have a decent range for any occasion for less than $650 (if new). Grab up these cameras people, they're discontinued, and frankly they're giving it away at this price. I've got two.. I couldn't resist the big Amazon sale a few months back.

But then you have to decide what lenses... for most people, the da18-55 mark 2 does fine and it gives them some flexibility as to what you can shoot. A lens that has a bit more reach is the da 50-200. both of these can be had used for under a $100 each. I'm not suggesting the really high end lenses until you know what lenses will fit your style.
Good luck with your decision!

Great thanks.... just wish these had the lenses.... I ordered it then noticed people saying the lens is not included for $300 deal
Found a Coolpix at my local Target clearenced for 189.98 along with the powershot XS260.....
Im a little noivce but would like to get more into photography.
What would be the best starter camera.... K-01 I am guessing?

Basically, comparing this coolpix to the k01 is like comparing a scooter to an accord. They will both get you to where you want to go, but the experience/ refinement won't be as good (sorry for the rough analogy...)

|Scubasta77||How does this compare to the Coolpix P510?|

But if you read the reviews for this item, there are comments saying the lens is not included. I think I read about this fiasco on some of the Pentax forums where people were hoping the lens was included and found out that it didn't.
Buyer beware (or at least be prepared to be disappointed)!

Going to the sites on that list directly, none of them mention having the lens included, they all say body only kit, that one line at the end of the amazon description is most likely a typo. So most likely more hunting is needed...

As for the rest, we already went through it all.

DXOmark is so much better then that snapsort crap:
The K-01 falls between the Nex-5N and the Nex-7
I've got two K-01 kits, one from Black Friday and another when it was $316 on amazon. At this price, get a couple in case they get destroyed.

No, you can mount any M lens on the camera and it works fine. There's a menu option that's non-intuitive. Something about ignoring the aperature. You only need to do it once and all manual lenses will work fine.

The kit is $300 on Amazon right now.
Just need to hunt around...
