If you have a desktop computer and or want something that dosent have to be moved or you need more storage than 2TB in one device then a desktop drive will save you a little money and may be the way to go.
TheWD My Book Essential is a good choice for a desktop HDD

Maybe I'm missing something? These pop up on FP every other day it seems. I get that some people get the desktop vs. portable ones mixed up, but even comparing the portable ones it seems like the prices vary quite a bit. I've always assumed the more expensive FP items were better quality somehow, but I don't know.
If anyone is interested, there's a deal on Tigerdirect for a 1TB portable USB 3.0 drive for $35 after a very steep $70 rebate. I don't trust Tiger enough, and don't want to go through the big rebate headache...but some might like it.

|sammysalsa||I'm a little confused where it says, "Mac OS Leopard or Snow Leopard (Requires re-formatting and will work in USB 2.0 mode)". Does it mean it will only work in 2.0 mode in Macs?|
