I have some "stupid" questions of how to use the phone...
1. Does the sim card coming with the phone needs any plan to activate the phone and card? What does the $50 monthly plan on the box mean? The plan is required to use the phone?
2. Or if I have a T-Mobile phone number and a mirco sim for the number, can I directly insert the card into this phone to use?
Thanks in advances

Waiting for a WP8 equiv. to or version of Talkatone or Grooveip and a good generic (user configurable) SIP/VoIP softphone like Acrobits Softphone.
In another thread someone recently mentioned metrotalk (again). I looked into it (again), it still uses plan min. for calls just like the other times i checked.

Is there any app to make calls using data for windows phone 8?

|2schnauzers||FWIW had a nightmare with this phone. I currently am a T-MO subscriber, when I got the 521 I called to activate it and they said it would work in 2-4 hours. Well - the phone part (voice calls) worked in a few seconds but data wasn't working. I waited and waited. Finally called back, first person I spoke to had no clue about Windows (kept asking if it was Android or iPhone) then I asked for a supervisor and got someone familiar with Windows, we tried a lot of things and finally said I should just send the phone back and get a new one - but then said, let's try the super reset, He gave me a sequence of keys to hit during power up (volume up, then camera, etc.) lo and behold the data began working but that's one hour of my life I wont get back. First impressions of the phone are positive.|

Saying that since you got your iphone unlocked for 15 bucks, that you can do the same for another phone ( like the 521) is nonsensical. right now the going rate is about 40 bucks and even then its hit or miss. This might change in the near future, and it might not.
if you can identify someone who can reliably unlock a 521 for 15 bucks, I suspect you would be very popular in these threads.

This is what I did, I ordered a sim card cutter because no cell phone stores around me had one or they refused to cut (punch out really is the way the cutter works) my sim. If you make a good quick "punch out" then you will be left with a micro sim and a "frame" of the old card. I use the micro and when I need a reg. sim I just slip it back into the "frame". Some cell shops (and ebay, Amazon) sell adapters. The cutter I bought came with a few but I find that my "frame" works better, especially in an iPhone, YMMV.
I bought something like this
This allows me to change phones at will w/o having to get involved with calling CS or having to get online to transfer the acct from one SIM to another. I just tuck the frame in the batt. compartment or case when not in use.
So if you find a shop to do it for you tell them you want the leftover "frame" after they cut your card. If the cut is a little rough and the fit not great you can CAREFULLY and gently use something like a womens nail buffer or fine emery file to smooth the edges on the frame a bit.
