I didnt follow one of the rules of SD. Buy first, research later. I had the item in my cart yesterday then started reading some reviews. I went back to finish checkout with Paypal and the cart expired, price went up.
Now I am thinking about buying the Sigma 30mm 1.4 for $50 more or the newer version for $100. Anyone have experience with this lens?

I bought this lens, but I shoot full frame. For crop users, you should consider the sigma instead. It's about 2 stops faster, which is a lot more valuable than IS. You are also starving for light in a crop body, and 1.4 will give you cleaner less noisy shots as well as DOF flexibility.
I already have fast lenses, and this serves as an everyday grab and go lens. It's going to replace my pancake since I like this FL a lot better for a single lens solution. Really wish it was an F2 lens, but I can live with 2.8.
Crop lenses such as the 17-5X lenses are equivalent to 28mm on full frame.
The FL of 28mm may not be popular, but it's heavily used.

Maybe you have unlimited funds to buy the sigma 35mm 1.4 or a 24mm 1.4, but this is an outstanding option in terms of image quality, build quality, IS and price.
I understand the argument against this lens on a crop body with the sigma 30mm, but the 28mm 1.8 is simply a soft lens in comparison to this lens.
And of course you wouldn't think you could flip this lens, because you don't see the obvious value of this excellent lens at this price.

Here's MY take:
1. Price is good from the ridiculous MSRP
2. IS is useful, but not crucial.
3. As I mentioned, I'd rather trade speed over IS. IS doesn't prevent motion blur on subject.
Value-wise, I'd rate this as so-so since there are so many alternatives that are similarly priced. Pictures taken with the latest IS versions of the classic 24/38/35mm trio definitely shows improvements in IQ, build quality, and egocentrics. I think they are ridiculous at MSRP, pretty decent at discounted prices.
