|Superorb||Canceled my 25mb plan that I was paying $70/month for the past 6 months for. Got my last bill and they charged a $30 non-returned equipment fee. They also have tried to charge me $7/month several times for modem rental fees. I bought my modem 8+ years ago, I have never rented a modem. Comcast has the worst business practices. Makes you wonder if they charge everyone and collect tons of unwarranted fees.|

I suppose I could cancel, and re-sign up a family member as a new customer, if I wanted to get the faster Performance package at 25 Mbps for $29.99. But I'm not that interested in the hassle for the same price, since my current speeds are good enough for my needs.
I think I would be okay with even Comcast's slowest speed package. But is there anything cheaper than $29.99? I see some posts above with $20/mo but those required bundles.

|Superorb||I'm going overseas for 4 weeks and I'm just going to cancel my service altogether. I'll argue with them when I get back. I'm currently paying $70 for 20mb ripoff internet.|

Thanks everyone for the information.
Here is my experience for reference.
Existing customer, SF Bay Area, Internet only (no need for TV or Voice bundle).
I was most recently paying $29.99 for Performance Starter 6 Mbps.
Regular price jumps to $49.95, so I called 1-800-COMCAST, and asked to lower my bill.
First rep offered a "two to three year contract" where the first year is $29.99 but the rest is regular price. I said no, need cheaper option.
She then offered one year at $29.99, and I said ok.
She then transferred me to the "downgrade department", which confirmed extending my $29.99 promotion for another 12 months at 6 Mbps.
I asked if there was anything cheaper than $29.99 and was told no.
Do any of you have a lower price (for non-bundle Internet only) in SF Bay Area?
