Allen Edmonds Park Ave's are also on sale in black for $223.36 + 20% off with email
I am currently wearing a pair of the Meltons and can say that they are comfortable and require very little break-in time. I have a pair of the AE Park Aves that have been delivered today that I am excited to try on.
But which ever shoes you end up getting, invest in some shoe trees.

For anyone still coming across this thread, it appear that most sizes of the Melton shoe in the BORDEAUX COLOR ONLY are now priced at $103.61.
If you get the 20% off coupon, that brings the price down to around $83. Not bad for a shoe that is $175 at Zappos, Macy's and Nordstrom.
If you've already ordered the Bordeaux color at a higher price, call Amazon for a price adjustment. They didn't give me a hassle at all, probably because they knew I could simply return the shoes at no charge.

|m00ky||Wow, I got mine in today and these things are horrible compared to my ankle boots I got from J&M only a few years ago. The insides of these are nothing like my boots and there are visible flaws in the finish. Sending them back.|

I had the Georgetown II back in the day. It was in that $350 range and about as well made as a cap toed oxford could be. Had them redone at the J&M factory for about $100. They lasted another 4 years and then it was time to part. I looked at what J&M is now making and the quality has gone down but I think the top shelf ones are still made here. But just about every other premium shoe company is now using the near East for manufacturing so it's just a sign of the times.
The AE shoes are nice & made in the US (for now).

I've gotten 2E in other brands and based on that, I'm thinking 3E would be excessive but I don't know about this brands sizing.

shoe tree would have definitely helped with creasing, I always use them from day 1 of new shoes. once you get the creases, using shoe trees after the fact won't help.

I'd have to agree that the AE's are absolutely a better pair of shoes, I own 4 pairs, but I really need a pair of black shoes to replace an older pair of black cap toes from J&M. The ones that are being replaced are about 8 years old now and just too dull to get a good shine out of them. Its time for a new pair and if I can get 8 years out of a pair of J&M's than that is absolutely worth my 98 bucks. Especially since the recrafting alone on the AE's is more than that.
On a side note, AE is a TOP NOTCH company. I sent them a pair of shoes to be recrafted that they couldn't fix due to the welt ripping on the side after their previous recraft. They offered to replace my shoes with any pair in their catalog up to 350 dollars for the price of the recraft. I'm a customer for life, even if this pair didn't happen to go their way. AE's are worth the money.

i have purchased these exact shoes in the past and can say the reviews are inflated
the leather is extremely stiff and seem to crease badly to the point where i think normal wear would cause cracks in the leather
they are also on the heavy side
i returned the shoes for the reasons mentioned above
avoid at all costs
