Would this be a good "all around lens" to take on a cruise? Would I be killed on IQ versus my current minagerie (40mm f2.8, 50mm f1.8, 30mm f1.4 (sigma), kit 18-55mm and the 55-250 cheap version of the canon zoom)?

I shudder that you put a crop lens on a 5D...

|bobfrapples||Thanks OP. I missed the deal last time so jumped on it this time after reading everyone's posts last time. Seems like a good lens for a good deal. Not loving spending $300 dollars on a whim, but this is why I check SD multiple times a day.|

|DocLiv||I've had this lens for almost a year now. As a hobbyist I think this is a great "all in one" lens. It's not great at anything, but it's pretty decent at almost everything. The build quality is good. I've used it in some very dusty conditions and light rain with no ill effects. The OS works well and the auto focus is reasonably quick. While it's not a true macro it can get pretty close up. It does have some flaws however. I've never had a lens with lens creep worse than this one. You can only lock it at 18mm. It would be nice if you could lock it anywhere within the zoom range. The other thing I don't like is that compared to other lenses I've used that zoom to 250mm, this one seems to be more like 200mm or 220mm. It makes a great travel lens, which is what I use it for the most. I can recommend this lens to anybody who doesn't want to lug around a bunch of lenses. For the price it's hard to beat.|

|teaberry||Funny I just bought this lens a few days ago for $340 hoping to replace my SEL18200 lens for NEX-7 with an LAEA2 adapter. I have the older version with OS since NEX bodies do not have OS (both are called 'macro' lens fyi). I was disappointed with the IQ of this lens compared to the Sony e-mount 18-200mm (granted, the Sony cost 2.5x more). Not sure how the lens is on other brand bodies like Nikon and Canon. Another complain is some serious purple fringing with bright white or light blue sky background.|
