Either way, pretty exciting reviews on the new 290x!! I did buy that 7970 to support amd, if they go out of business intel is gonna rape us. That being said i'm sticking with intel processors for a while.

629 dollars! I hope the core edition is good. It seems to oc already. Still for this much money, it should have xfx lifetime warranty and some extra goodies. When you rma your xfx, did you have to insured it and certified it or just regular?
No, this does not have lifetime.

Just thought i'd let you know that Nvidia does have an answer for this supposedly in the wings, the 780 Ti; release w ill be in november, but it is anyones guess on price/performance

It has not broke down - but it was a similar situation to this rush to get the new card. Another disappointment was that it i wanted to do Eyefinity 3 monitors and had to go out and buy cables for a moderate cost after i spent $629 for a brand new card (the most i have ever paid by far for a new card by about $300). The card has run fine but my xfx 6870 with a lifetime warranty has had to be repaired. XFX support was very good and my replacement card is still running. So I will do my best to wait and see before i buy a 290x, perhaps until the non reference cards are available or at a minimum lifetime warranty. All that being said, its not gonna be easy with such great benchmarks and bf4 for free.

What version of XFX 7970 did you have?
Did your XFX break down for you to need the lifetime?

|akseapilot||Any one know if there is one with a lifetime warranty? Last time with on 7970 launch xfx if i had spent an extra 30 for better cooling edition i would have got lifetime warranty. Totally worth it IMO.|

I'll try to find something, but it's not going to be feasible without turning settings way down, remember that's like trying to run 4 1080p monitors and even though this card is new and expensive, a 7990 or 690 or whatever will still walk all over it. I posted in the other 290X thread trying to explain what a tiny niche this card fills... 'cause if you really need this much GPU, the games you're playing should probably handle SLI pretty well in the first place, and you should know how to deal with the hassle etc. already.
edit: here you go
I really don't see the point of this card unless you're really desperate for hassle-free single-GPU performance and running at 1440p. Lower than that and there's no reason to go with this over a 7970 or whatever, higher than that and you really need multiple GPUs. And if you're giving in and going with multiple GPUs, the 7990 is dirt cheap right now, crossfired 7990s would be pretty amazing and should handle 4K really well for ~$1K.
Gaming at 4K is kind of a mess right now anyway since with a lot of different configs, you end up with tearing in the middle.

Does anyone have a link to an articles where this card is being tested specifically in 4K resolution aka: "Ultra HD"?
I have fingers crossed that this card can push my Seiki 39" 4K monitor (tv) and manage an acceptable frame rate on current games (Crysis3, BF4, COD Ghosts, etc..)

|NoBantheSnowman||yes but can it run crysis?|

Faster memory speeds also showed a pretty decent gain in BF4 as Corsair showed here:

then you can see setups easily pushing higher fps than a single 290X is going to be capable of, and framerates scaling well with GPU power, so I don't imagine it can possibly be too CPU-bound at reasonable settings, otherwise you'd see all sorts of cards capping out at around the same performance.
edit: or in other words, max load with what? if that was with triple SLI titans running on a single 1080p monitor with no AA, then that kind of changes things

I mean, I can play BF3 on a reasonably OCed 2500K while transcoding 1080p video in realtime in the background without any fps hit. It's really not an issue at the moment.
