|lotero89||I pulled the trigger. My 55 inch Vizio isn't cutting it PQ wise. Looking forward to a plasma.|

|tysouter||Deal is dead, now back to the $1,449.99 price that is was at for the last few days. Really sucks because I just got my Amazon financing in order for the linked price. Hope it drops again this weekend so i can use my (now) stupid $770 amazon gift card + $600 credit on my card!|

A. The pixels age differently when shown different programming in their baby stage. So Person A's tv using 100 hours of slides will be a lot more even and well matured then person B's who watches Sportscenter with scores running the bottom and uneven coloring throughout. So you lose the benefit of optimal PQ
B. I am a tv installer I see it all the time, go to a million dollar house with top of the line Video and Audio equipment. The newest and latest equipment. TV similair to this, and PQ looks like garbo because they just use the Standard setting, really taking away from the experience. And my 3k HT setup blows there 30k setup out of the water.
C. If you are paying nearly 2k after all is said and done (warranty, ship, tax), and you neglect the slides and calibration that would be a complete waste of $$ in my opinion.
I will agree that this will have a better out of the box picture then other tvs, but at this price point you do not pay for out of the box pq.
I could go buy a HTIB for 500 and have "good sound" or I can spend a bit more, invest a little more time installing the components and have a truly breathtaking experience.
tl;dr >>>>>>The benefit you gain from calibrating is what makes this TV the god that it is.<<<<<<<<
if you spend 2k on a tv and do not calibrate it then its a waste and go to costco and pick up a tv.

Basically, I think you could set this TV next to any other TV at this price range, in a dim room (not a bright show room) and 4 of 5 members of the general public would pick it as having a better picture.

This is truly an HT enthusiast tv. If you are not going to run the 100 hours of slides on it and calibrate it I would not even waste the money on it

And input lag is so minor it will not make a difference.
Also I would be hella scared to have a constant on the screen for hours on end (i.e radar)

But then again, I am working during the day so mostly watch tv at night. The only time it would be an issue is if I lost my job and were home during the day - then that would be a totally different issue.
