I've been doing this for 8 years. One thing I learned about printables is I don't print them right away unless I know there is a deal or one that won't last long. I have wasted a lot of ink, still do.
Since you just got started there will be a lot of trial and error on your end with printables. You'll figure out what works for you in time.

Believe me, Rose lives in a magical place as far as blinkies, tearpads and peelies are concerned. It's really rare for me to see anything but an occasional blinkie. The golden unicorn or tearpads and peelies are either gone the day they put them out, or never put up here (North Alabama) to start with.
Most hot IPs are gone within a day, if not just a few hours. The SD printable thread is a wonderful resource, so just checking that once in the morning and another time at night will garner you most Qs that are IPs.

IPs, imho, are the worst choice in couponing.

I have a question with regards to printable coupon sites like coupons.com/smartsource/redplum and such. Do the coupons stay up for printing till the time they expire, or do you all just print every coupon off that you may use? Clipping coupons is one thing, printing out ones I'll use is another, but printing out 30 pages,or 60 with duplicates, of things I MAY use and never do seems like an expensive waste of ink and paper.

A new Bham couponer? Welcome aboard
Like Rose said, pick one store. Learn it inside and out. Aim low to start, 20-30% off your bill. It takes time to build a stockpile, and the stockpile is what lets you pass on the less than stellar deals in time, but for now, you most likely still have to buy staples that a lot of us have oodles of already. Over time, you'll be able to cut your grocery bill (or your HBA bill, whether you choose a drugstore or a grocery store first) back much more than that, but it's gonna be a work in progress for a while.
The articles and blog posts and instagram pics are all only part of the picture. For every super sweet transaction like that, there are plenty of sub-optimal ones. For example, I paid full price for Sudafed this week. Didn't even have a coupon on me

General comment -- posters share deals or crow triumphant transactions of 98% discounts or FREE items or money making transactions. Those are great but they are not the majority of anyones retail purchases.
If you are just starting out, try for a more reasonable goal -- like I am going to save 30% off my groceries. It takes time to build up a coupon supply and a full pantry.

Do you have a computer & printer? If the coupon insert in your newspaper seems less than the previews then maybe you need to scroll through the printables thread here on the sd forum & print mqs for the stuff your family needs or likes.
But do not do that until you get the coupon polucy for your local store. You are going to feel silly if your store does not accept home printed coupons or limits them differently than newspaper coupons or blinkie/ tearpad mqs.
