|snowcrash||Seeing this deal reminds me that I still have an unused Icy Dock 5x3 I bought 3 years ago during the Groupon $15 for $7 eBay gift card fiasco. Thought I was going to use it but turned out I never needed it. Looking at the receipt I still paid more for it ($56) than this deal. Should have been more disciplined.|

5.25" bays are significantly larger in x,y, and z dimensions - so yes of course a small 3.5 in a large 5.25 bay will have more clearance and if you want a silent (but BIG) HTPC then go ahead do it your way, but if you want a nice BYOD NAS/media server this is the way to go.
Any more observations?

|SlickTex||Ok here are my questions. Says Rebate is limited to 2, does the 2 have to be on same receipt? if not how long does it take to get the $25 Newegg promotional gft card (is it e-card or mailed)? Is it limited to 1 per person/household/order or can I get it on 2 orders?.... yes, you you've figured it I want to have 2 separate orders so I can use the $25 gift card of the 1st order to part-pay for the 2nd order.|

There's an excellent review of this and other similar cages over at the unRAID forum - http://lime-technology.com/forum/...ic=12405.0
I will say this was probably one of the nicest I've used. I ended up returning it only because I was short two drive ports. Would only recommend that if you have a dust issue, get and cut up some vent cover material and slide it into the plastic tray release.

|Stucco||I would love to buy 2, but I've had bad experiences with another brand, putting that many drives that close together. The one reviewer hit the nail on the head. If the product isn't designed perfectly, the vibration from multiple drives spinning up causes the drives not to be able to function. It sounds like this one would have the same problems as my others, which sit on a shelf, unused.|

I would rather pay a little more and get a trayless unit. It's easy to forget how annoying the trays are until you're setting it up initially or stripping a tray from a dead drive so you can replace it.
Granted, the price isn't bad and five drives in three bays is nice (seems like these things are usually only four drives).
