The HP 17-e189nr Laptop arrived and it is truly a beauty. Very nice looking, no cosmetic wear and lighter than my older 17" Gateway laptop. The boot up time is about par and that depends on just how much you install on it. On the plus side it is all that has been stated so far in the forum and I was surprised how well it ran some recent games - better than I anticipated and some on high settings. The A10-5750M with Radeon™ HD 8650G can really move graphics exceptionally well. So far I've loaded three games including Bioshock Infinite and Assassins Creed Liberation HD. Both games ran smooth with no jerking or static motion. Not surprisingly Assassin's Creed Black Flag IV did have to be scaled down some but was acceptable considering that I couldn't play it on the Gateway.
Minor negatives I can live with - I wish they would have the large "delete" key on the keypad. A minor bugaboo of mine as I'm used to having the big delete key that is so often used. My older Gateway had two hard drive drive bays & this one has just one. Although an extra SSD would not improve gaming the Gateway booted up on the SSD in 12 seconds and I miss having that for quick internet email checks.
But all things considered the laptop is all that stated and a great Slickdeal.

WOW! Sold out already, glad I got in earlier. Even the Newegg listing on Ebay for the black HP Notebook 17-E119WM now has a "limited Quantity" available.

But I don't see how this made the FP though. This would be FP only if it was new, not refurbished.

For anyone considering buying it, this laptop works well. I use it heavily - It's fast and it has worked perfectly for about 5 months. It arrived looking and working like brand new.
No issues whatsoever, but in the summer as with any laptop I would recommend using a laptop cooling pad with it. You can't beat it for the specs, and at a slickdeals price it's a no-brainer.

I personally haven't used any other brand than HP/Compaq laptops since 2000 and maybe earlier, neither at work nor home. And I am yet to see something majorly crap out on me. Yes I had an internal Wifi adapter went poof and a hard drive died, but they were either replaced under warranty or was a cheap and easy repair that I even could do myself.
I am debating pulling the trigger on this one only because I am moving in less than 2 months and don't want to carry more fragile stuff.

2-3 years ago this processor and graphics were not available as it was introduced in March 2013 and if it was it certainly would not have been at this price all things considered. Most laptops come with a 6 cell battery as a 9 cell battery being $30-$40 more would have pushed the price higher and not as attractive. Besides, you can configure a laptop to give extended battery life but few take the time to do it. This laptop is not listed as a gaming laptop by HP where it may have included a 9 cell battery. Considering the specifications, along with price (now $399 down $20 from $419), compared to what others are charging (Amazon still $657) for same PC, not to mention that its moved to the front page, and the number of positive hits is escalating, it appears that few viewers agree with your undocumented statement.

|Commonzenze||How come the cheaper laptops still manage to have real buttons on the mouse pad and the higher end did away with them. I personal prefer the buttons, is there an advantage to not having them that I am missing.|
