No Referrals

*Is this a price mistake?
No, this is an actual offer provided by LivingSocial, we've verified this. If you don't know, Amazon recently invested a large sum of money into LivingSocial, so there is a high likelyhood that this is how they are able to offer this deal.

*Why is this deal stuck to the top of the frontpage?
It's super rare to get such a good deal for Amazon gift cards. We want to make sure everyone can get in on this opportunity while it lasts! The deal has received an amazing response, so we decided to stick it to the top because it's so popular!

No Referrals

Can you use Deal Bucks?
NO, deal bucks can be earned for referrals but not used as redemption on this deal at Amazon's request.

If I used Deal Bucks what happens?
According to the Facebook account of Living Social, you will be billed $10

Can I buy more than one?
Not according to the terms on the site

Will they stack?
Not known at this time but assume no.

Where is the confirmation email?
Probably hasn't been sent yet, they are backed up. Check spam folder and wait.

Has anyone got there code? / Where is the code?
They won't be available until the deal is complete, so look for it tomorrow.

ALL charges PENDING in my BOA account. SICK!

RandallMarshall 01-19-2011 02:53 AM

I decided to leave in everything regarding deal bucks because they can be used later on for another deal. If I was to remove one of the referral links and completely ignore deals bucks, this tutorial would be a whole lot simpler.

TOTAL REWARD AFTER 2 SETS - $140 in Amazon Gift Cards for a cost of $50 (7 Accounts because 1 is reused)

Deal Bucks are no longer valid, but you can still get this deal for $5 a piece

Here's my detailed instructions on how to obtain $80 worth of Amazon Gift Cards for only $30 on your first set. Each set after your first set will only cost $20! (Because you're reusing an account on the next set you'll get $60 in GC, but only pay $20)

Let me first summarize the process. When you join Living Social you're given two completely different referral links. If you use the first referral link, anyone that joins under you will receive $5 in deal bucks instantly. Unfortunately, Living Social has disabled deal bucks for this deal. You can still take those deal bucks and use them on another deal later on. The second referral link requires you to refer 3 additional users who must purchase this deal as well. If the 3 users purchase this deal, YOUR deal is FREE. So in other words, you will only have to pay for the 3 additional accounts and not your first account. (Or main account) The goal is to now combine both of the referral links to allow you to purchase 4 $20 gift cards for $10 a piece and only pay for the last 3. (The first referral link isn't necessary since you're not using the deal bucks now, but why pass up on free cash that can be used for a later deal?) If you do the math, the cost is $30 and you'll receive $80 in Amazon Gift Cards. HOWEVER, on your next set, SET TWO, you will repeat the process below using the referral links from one of the 3 additional accounts you have created. This account will become your new main account. This means you won't have to make an initial purchase on the main account. Once you've made 3 purchases, costing $30, your main account will be free. Since your main account was part of the first set and you're no longer going to have to pay for it, that first set will cost $10 less, or a $20 total. Each consecutive set will only cost $20 because the main account will become free. I realize this is confusing, but hopefully the steps below will iron out any questions.

(1) Sign up to Living Social to create a dummy account. Don't worry about being refereed as you won't be making a purchase on this account.
(2) Click "My Account > "deal bucks" > "Invite more Friends" > Scroll down and copy the referral link (You won't need to save this referral link. You'll use it just once.)
(3) Log out of your account.
(4) Paste the referral link into your browser, press enter > Enter your email > Click Sign Up (Your account should now have $5 in Deal bucks that you can't use for this deal. I'll refer to this account as your main account.)
(5) Make your first purchase on your main account for a total cost of $10
(6) Repeat step 2 and save your referral link somewhere such as notepad. I'll refer to this referral link as referral link 1.
(7) Click "My Account > "buy more" > Scroll down and copy the referral link located in the bottom/middle of the page. I'll refer to this referral link as referral link 2. Save this link as well. (Take a mental note and look to the left of the referral link, you'll see a picture of 4 men that say "Me,1,2,3")
(8) Log out of your account.
(9) Paste referral link 1 into your browser and press enter. Enter your new email and press submit. (DO NOT SIGN UP YET) (Read the notes below to see a Gmail trick for using the same email each time)
(10) Paste referral link 2 into your browser and press enter. Sign up now using the email entered in step 9. (I use the same exact information on every account except the email address)
(11) Make a purchase for again $10. (I'll refer to this account as "Additional Account 1")
(12) Repeat steps 8-11 two more times to give you a total of 4 accounts, 1 Main Account and 3 Additional accounts. (We don't care about the dummy account anymore)
(13) Log out of your account.
(14) Log into your main account and click "My Account > "buy more". To the left of your referral link you should see 4 little men in green that spell out FREE instead of "Me,1,2,3". This means your main account will receive the gift card for free and you will not be charged.
(15) If you're now moving on to a second set, login to "Additional Account 1", your new main account, and repeat steps 6-14)

Congratulations... You now have purchased 4 $20 Amazon Gift Cards for only $30, or $20 if you're on your second set. You can repeat this process multiple times to purchase even more gift cards. This took a while to create! Please say thanks if it helped!

NOTE:
(1) If you decide to purchase more than $80 worth of gift cards, you must use one of your 3 additional accounts as your new main account to only pay $20.
(2) If you're using Gmail, there's a trick to using your 1 email address over and over again. Gmail ignores "periods" in your email. For example, gmail@gmail.com is the same as g.mail@gmail.com and g.m.a.i.l@gmail.com.
(3) If you haven't already realized it, you're making a new account for each purchase. This bypasses the 1 purchase per account rule.
(4)Don't forget, each main account will also receive $5 in deal bucks per sign up after the deal ends. This means each main account will have $15 laying around. :)

Here's an example with less words and more data.

SET ONE
Dummy Account - No Purchase
Main Account - $10 (This account becomes $0 after the next 3 accounts are created and the deal is purchased)
Additional Account 1 - $10 (This account becomes $0 after SET TWO is finished)
Additional Account 2 - $10
Additional Account 3 - $10
Total Cost - $30 ($20 after SET TWO is finished)

SET TWO
Main Account - $0 (This account is also "Additional Account 1" from the first set and is already purchased and calculated in the previous total)
Additional Account 1 - $10
Additional Account 2 - $10
Additional Account 3 - $10
Total Cost - $30 (If you continue on to a third set it will only cost $20 after the third set is finished)

TOTAL REWARD AFTER 2 SETS - $140 in Amazon Gift Cards for a cost of $50 (7 Accounts because 1 is reused)

**The above information is for educational purposes. Use it at your own risk. Whether or not gift cards will stack is still unknown.

or they could try walking with most everyone's money? it seems to be their track record with their other shady deals.

I canceled a few $10 dollars as I had a few $5 as well and the holds came off my account in seconds.

Strange!

This site does not even verify an email by sending out a registration confirmation email.

I am glad I only have $20 invested in them at this point in holds.

How could they walk with it? They're all credit charges, you just have your CC company do a chargeback.

At first yes, but if you read step 14 you'll see that your main account will not be charged after you have made the 3 purchases on your 3 additional accounts. It's their special to encourage you to refer others to the deal. If you can refer 3 other people that purchase the deal, yours is free.

The deal is one per person , so how do you go about doing this if you're using the same credit card?

jy1129 01-19-2011 03:06 AM

almost at 100,000!!! I shop at amazon all the time so I REALLY HOPE they honor all the gift cards I bought... $520(26) for $90 (got 8 free through referrals).

Armoredx 01-19-2011 03:07 AM

lol? is it just me or did it just backtrack back to 99k..lol

rowso 01-19-2011 03:07 AM

Now over 100,000!

Conformer101 01-19-2011 03:07 AM

I would say the referrals have the highest chance of cancellation, considering based on my limited reading of this thread, it appears 75%+ of their orders will have a $5 referral credit.

jy1129 01-19-2011 03:07 AM

nevermind passed 100k!!

eman182 01-19-2011 03:07 AM

You know, I was skeptical of the Sears/Kmart deal, but that panned out. I'm full in on in this one, but reading the posts in this thread, I cannot believe this deal will go through.

It's 6am Eastern Time, and the site has already sold a million dollars worth of Amazon. How rich can Amazon be?

You can use the same credit card, name and address. The only thing required to be changed is your email address. You're registering a new account for every purchase.

It's over 100k now. Great marketing move. I wouldn't be surprised if LS is only getting a tiny cut on this, if any, and Amazon is just using it to promote the site. Selling $2M worth of merchandise for $1M isn't going to hurt Amazon at all, but this is helping to put LS on the map.

rowso 01-19-2011 03:10 AM

I'm just saying that this has a very high chance of being canceled and the people who are getting like 50 of these are most likely wasting their time. Of course, for 1 or even 10, it's worth a shot.

It says 1 per person. That's how I saw it:

The people who try for 30+ need to reassess their priorities in life.

But this deal is too easy to not get at least five.

RandallMarshall 01-19-2011 03:13 AM

EDIT: It seems deal bucks are no longer working. You can still get $80 worth of Amazon Gift Cards for $30 by using these steps. Not all steps are necessary now.

Here's my detailed instructions on how to obtain $80 worth of Amazon Gift Cards for only $15. That's $3.75 per $20 Amazon Gift Card!

Let me first summarize the process. When you join Living Social you're given two completely different referral links. If you use the first referral link, anyone that joins under you will receive $5 in deal bucks instantly. The second referral link requires you to refer 3 additional users who must purchase this deal as well. If the 3 users purchase this deal YOUR deal is free. So in other words, you will only have to pay for the 3 additional accounts and not your first account. The goal is to now combine both of the referral links to allow you to purchase 4 $20 gift cards for $5 a piece and only pay for the last 3.

(1) Sign up to Living Social to create a dummy account. Don't worry about being refereed as you won't be making a purchase on this account.
(2) Click "My Account > "deal bucks" > "Invite more Friends" > Scroll down and copy the referral link
(3) Log out of your account.
(4) Paste the referral link into your browser > Enter your eMail > Click Sign Up (Your account should have $5 in Deal bucks. I'll refer to this account as your main account.)
(5) Make your first purchase on your main account for a total cost of $5
(6) Repeat step 2 and save your referral link somewhere such as notepad. I'll refer to this referral link as referral link 1.
(7) Click "My Account > "buy more" > Scroll down and copy the referral link located in the bottom/middle of the page. I'll refer to this referral link as referral link 2. Save this link as well.
(8) Log out of your account.
(9) Paste referral link 1 into your browser. Enter your new eMail and press submit. (DO NOT SIGN UP YET)
(10) Paste referral link 2 into your browser. Sign up now using the email entered in step 9.
(11) Make a purchase for again just $5.
(12) Repeat step 8-11 two more times.
(13) Log out of your account.
(14) Log into your main account and click "My Account > "buy more". To the left of your referral link you should see 4 little men in green that spell out FREE. This means your main account will receive the gift card for free and you will not be charged.

Congratulations... You now have purchased 4 $20 Amazon Gift Cards for only $15. You can repeat this process multiple times to purchase even more gift cards. This took a while to create! Please say thanks if it helped!

NOTE:
(1) If you decide to purchase more than $80 worth of gift cards, you can use one of your 3 additional accounts as your new main account.
(4) Living Social will place a pending charge of $10 on your bank account, but it will expire to only $5 before completely processing.

rowso 01-19-2011 03:14 AM

You may not have been on before when LS went down for a while.... I'm pretty sure they updated that from "1 per account" because that's what I read when I signed up.

Does that mean that all the people that bought 50 codes (assuming those purchases go through) are going to have to try to create 50 new amazon accounts? LOL ... good luck with that one.

I've seen a lot these in last 2-3 weeks where the legit sites would advertise for 'looks too good to be true' price. First it was Sears on 50% off gift card, then Target on $40 for PS3, and now this. I've yet to find confirmation on anyone got the sears and target deals.

It has always been "1 per person". Somewhere in the middle of the fiasco, the site glitched allowing multiple orders per account, but those will almost definitely get canceled (judging from past history of similar sites).

Didn't bother after seeing how easy this deal was to exploit. Figure most orders will be cancelled. I could be wrong but I doubt Amazon wants to stomach that much of a loss over 6 hours?

Beara 01-19-2011 03:29 AM

how can we tell how many friends sign up?

darvin 01-19-2011 03:29 AM

They have now sold over 102,000 $20 gift cards.

Consumer cost: over $1,000,000

Dollars in supposed amazon gift cards to be sent out: over $2,000,000

It is extemely unlikely that Amazon is going to give away $1,000,000+ worth of free gift card credit in one day.

I'm beginning to wonder what is going to happen here.

1. Living Social backs out and continues to tarnish their bad rep? (possibly)
2. Amazon pays out and loses a million bucks? (unlikely)
3. They offer a consolation prize like a 20% off one item coupon. (would probably be the best compromise)

What does everyone else think?

Pop2Lock 01-19-2011 03:29 AM

I can't sleep. I just received few e-mails from LivingSocial :-)

I bet the counter drops when people cancel after seeing that they are getting charged $10 instead of $5... or perhaps LS is cancelling the obvious violators...

all $5 purchases have been switched to $10 charges if you look at your purchase history. Still a great deal, but that's pretty lame that they are even able to do that since you literally submitted the order for a one amount, but they are charging your card double that amount.

I don't know why livingsocial released this deal in the middle of the night. They would have received much better exposure, and broader participation, if they released it at noon or something. Instead, they gave a relatively small number of people ample time to figure out how to abuse it, and many will come to the page later when it says "Deal sold out". (shrug) Makes no sense.

This. All moral ambiguity aside as far as us taking advantage of this deal goes, is this charge switch even legal?

Everyone who bought a gift card for five dollars knew what they really ought to have paid.

LivingSocial just made them pay the difference.

It's 6am Eastern Time, and the site has already sold a million dollars worth of Amazon. How rich can Amazon be?

What a fantastic deal. Bought 4 getting 1 for free, would be wonderful if it goes through, combine this with amazons buy 2 get 1 games deal and that's 3 new games for 30 bucks! (Rough estimate of course!)

EXCITING!

Im so Wanting to buy a couple , But when Amazon has said 1 , They really meant 1 per account on other deals, so In the past I had to jack my moms credit card and make another amazon account to be able to put my other code in. So I will just stick to my 1 little lonely purchase and hope I get It.. :)

I basically saw this deal, ROBOFORMED my email+1@gmail.com to email+85@gmail.com, went to Carl Jr, for a late night snack, my card was bounced back, had to used another card to pay for dinner. Came home, looked at my charges, and I got 26 of them only =(, so well see if I even get the 26. Anyhow, back to ROBOFORM, I spent roughly 40 mins, then logged off, I didn't want to spend 3-4 or even 6 hours doing stupid referrals, then get canceled somehow or charge the same amount. I just spent 40 mins, and said I'm done, and yes $10 for $20 is still worth it, I was aiming for $900 for $1800, I imagine what can I buy for Amazon for $1800 and sale for $1700 lol

no. it's their mistake, and they made it available for purchase to the public. We didn't do anything wrong like going in to their system and changing code or whatever. They created this, so they should honor their mistake. We didn't do anything morally wrong, THEY did by charging people DOUBLE to what we authorized them to charge on our card. Can you imagine going to a store and buying an item for what you thought was a great price and then receiving your credit card bill and realizing they charged you double to what you authorized them to charge on your card? That would never fly.

So $10 for $20 is too expensive for you?

How about an iPad that's worth $500 for $250, or maybe a PS3 for $100 after the free $100 giftcard?

I don't see why you people are canceling, this is a steal. Basically, Amazon has the best prices in the world, plus free shipping, and tax free for most people, and you get everything for half off, EVERYTHING.

I don't see the purpose of canceling, if you do, then you don't belong here on slickdeals, because ALL the items on slickdeals are barely even half off. You can look at all the five thumb rated deals, and they aren't even 50% off, you guys make me laugh......

This makes no cents to cancel, uh I mean sense.

Maybe your upset that uh, they doubled your $5 to $10, uh, but this is probably the best deal of the year, and your canceling it?

I'm so confused!

Assuming you paid with a credit card, then yes. However, if you paid with a debit or check card it is not legal. I had some issues in the past getting an out of warranty Mobo RMA'd where they ended up needing to adjust some charges, and they told me because I used a Visa Checkcard (debit card from my bank) that they would have to apply the cost increase as a seperate charge all together. On a related note, you also can not place a hold on anything but a credit card.

The question is... Do they accept PayPal or anybody else that would middle-man the purchases?

I completely agree. I didn't cancel all of my orders. I simply don't have the cash to shovel out $100 right now. If I had a $1,000 to play with I would make 100 orders.

This says it all. And I imagine once this thread picks back up once people wake up, there's going to be more of an outcry. The $5 referral trick wasn't that uncommon in this thread, and even if was, a company charging you more than you authorized for a transaction is bullshit. The sad thing is, they're probably going to get away with it too, since they're taking their good old time sending out confirmation e-mails. I have exactly ZERO evidence proving my purchase was supposed to be $5.

All the talk about the legality of this has me wondering whether I should cancel a few more orders, and this is coming from someone who made at least 40 Sears GC purchases.

I figure LS and Amazon just want to artificially boost up the number of LS customers, so they don't care if it's actually new customers or not since the investors won't know the difference either way, right? Please? someone? before i cancel more orders.

As of right now, I have no hope for this deal, then again, if this deal wasn't happening, I think they would of pulled the plug on this already, on the website, but thats my opinion, It's all speculation. I recall when they had the 4 movie tickets for $18 deal including Imax and 3D through SocialLife. Might have been OK if you had gotten your voucher numbers early, but I waited for about 30 days so tickets would be good through the holidays which was a mistake. They cancelled it.But did get a refund.
