***chat*** The Official Publix Grocery Chat Thread and anyone else is welcome Chat too!

The PUBLIX thread is IMHO the best grocery store thread around
Here's a little chat area for us all to share info, recipes, rant's, raves and whatever else we want without clogging up the regular weekly deals thread for PUBLIX. If we want to share super deals we find in other stores or whatnot that's ok too

I think we all are such a great family that it's a good to have our own special place :grouphug:

You can post basically anything you like in here but let's keep deals info in the actual PUBLIX thread. All are welcome and basically no major rules except be kind and courteous of other's and treat each other with respect. Other than that let's all have some fun! Also you don't have to shop at PUBLIX to share in the chat or whatnot... we like everyone.

I'll start it off...
Today I made a wonderful lunch compliments of really cheap stuff from PUBLIX.
I used 1 package of the Knorr Thai Noodles (roughly .50c) and simmered it in the College Inn Coconut Curry Chicken Stock, mixed in 1 package of the Asian Medley Birdseye Steamfresh, Squeezed a little lime juice, cilantro and a sprinkle of soy sauce & powdered ginger and finished it off with some Contessa shrimp that were tossed in the Franks Sweet Chili Sauce. It was just as good as Thai Takeout!
Oh also I stirred a tablespoon of the Honey Nut Crunch Peter Pan in the noodles when I was cooking it. It gave them more of the peanut flavor.

krys091 02-10-2011 01:07 PM

Yay! It will be like a Publix BS thread :)

So how is the swimming in the Classico? Not to thick I hope lol

Sometimes it's fun to chit chat about nothing...

I'm irritated that I over slept today and didn't get more 10 off 20 Kohl's Q's :sadwalk:

When I was looking for papers I even walked into a Sweet Bay
I haven't been in one of those forever! I figured noone who coupon shops would go to Sweet Bay anyways so they probably have tons of papers I could buy with the Q"s on front. Guess I was wrong though :(

If I can avoid buying extra food storage, I definitely will, but I'm probably most nervous about the turkey. Our fridge door opens into the kitchen wall (we're renters - I never would have designed the kitchen that way) and even if we take the side shelves out, I'm not sure we'd fit a turkey. And to buy frozen would mean dedicating like 1/3 of the freezer to stand it up in there I bet. This may be the temporary insanity talking, but maybe I need to buy a turkey the morning of?

To make things more complicated, DH brews beer and wants to make a special match for Thanksgiving - unfortunately those bottles have to stay refridgerated AND have to stay upright. It's definitely going to be a game of Refridgerator Tetris!

This is what I would suggest. It involves brining a turkey and using a cooler. You can also defrost it in the cooler. We have done this especially when traveling long distances and spending the holidays with family. It will avoid the needless headache of making room in your freezer/frig if the buy the turkey the day before. Plus this recipe tastes great.

For food safety issues you need to thaw at a temperature that is at least what a fridge would be. Honestly, I have a really small fridge (painfully small for 6 people) and I still manage to get a turkey in there. We actually have gotten fully cooked smoked turkeys a few times, and those things are FANTASTIC. And, yeah, I know we get lots of deals on Turkey...but the inlaws always seem to want to buy it to make it 'easy' anyhow.

OMG, I can't believe it's so close!!! :omg: I've never gotten used to the seemingly non-changing seasons down here so it doesn't feel like we're approaching fall to me! I definitely agree, if you're going to plan everything out, write things out and start now. I'm guessing some people are going to also want to bring a few dishes (I hope so, don't do everything yourself ;) like I do usually).

You can see why I don't cook- I'll inadvertantly kill people by keeping the stupid turkey on the counter. Sigh.

As soon as September hit, I was ready for all the fall stuff. I was dying to have Target put out Halloween and all the fall/harvest stuff.

Well, you're smart...if you needed to thaw a turkey you'd likely read the label, read up online or ask someone with experience. All of us had to be taught somewhere, if our parents didn't teach us we either have to get buy everything fully cooked and reheat or depend on others to cook. Or even better....learn to cook. It's never too late!

My mom never cooked, so I never picked up anything substantial about it. I can bake a mean cheesecake, but that's about it

You say you rent, I think you said an apartment, perhaps you can
1 ask the the office if they have an empty apartment that you could borrow the fridge from, maybe for 2 weeks.
2. another option is renting a fridge from say rent a center or something like that.
If you have a porch you could leave it there. That way if you get it the first of November, you can better plan and prepare.
You can stockpile refrigerated items as well
and also plan ahead meals....Probably like on Saturday I know my family would be watching college football, so maybe a pot of chili or american chop suey would be in order (Yea I am praying for cooler weather)
If you had meals ready to go, you can enjoy your company rather than spending the time in the kitchen.

I'm kinda embarrassed to say that we're still in the NYC frame of mind I guess and don't really know our neighbors. Plus 2 out of the 3 apartments on our floor are seasonal rentals so they'll probably be different folk in a month or so.

You know, DH suggested something like that - there's an AMAZING bbq place down the block from us that offers a deep-fried turkey service (you drop it off a day or two before and pick it up Thursday morning) but I don't know if my mom would freak out I didn't do it the "traditional way" like her.

I know - it totally snuck up on me, too! I'm still in summer-mode!

I am definitely starting to plan out everything this week so I have plenty of time to figure out what I'm forgetting and pick everything up. Unfortunately everyone is flying down from NY/NJ/PA so they won't be bringing much - but at least I don't have to wonder or organize who is bringing what! :)

Thanks to all of you for your advice - I really appreciate it!

Unfortunately no porch, but not a bad idea asking if there are any empty rentals during that time. I could talk to the owners about a "fridge rental" sort of deal, perhaps.

Also a million thanks for the chili idea - that's absolutely perfect! All canned items (at least the way I make it) except for beef so that's a great space-saver meal AND perfect for football. Thanks!!

That recipe is great! My SIL and BIL did that one for Thanksgiving last year. It turned out fabulous! Yum!

According to Gordon Ramsey, a turkey should actually rest as long as it cooks...so if it cooks for 3 hours, it rests for 3 hours. We did that at our house with the one we made at Christmas and it really did seem to make a difference...so tender and juicy all the way through. Heaven, I tell ya!

I don't think anyone in our house is that patient! The way we pick at the food cooking all day, it's a surprise we still can eat

Speaking of Gordon Ramsey, I'm super bummed the finale of Hell's Kitchen was last night. I loved my weekly fix of him :D

I've seen a Produce TQ used lately too. There hasn't been a valid one for months!

It isn't like Publix programmers couldn't help the situation by reading something other than JUST the value on a Q. At least read the MFG code too, as we both know that you could use a Cottonelle Q on Charmin and it never beep at Publix.

BTW, when is Publix gonna roll out the new barcode implementation?

I know the new software is in full swing here. Beeps beeps and more beeps and only twice was I at fault, had two coupons instead of one (on products) the rest is always verified.

shiftingkate 09-20-2011 09:36 PM

I took out my parents dog for a walk and I knew she got something in her mouth when we were out. And it was a frog. I totally just spent the last half hour chasing a frog around my house

Luckily, frogs don't scare me and no panic attacks!

I was told the software update they had several months ago is not the same as the GS1 barcode apparently (asked them about that one). They updated the registers to 'attach' or match products to coupons, but aren't as specific as the GS1 barcoding, which is why so many people can still commit fraud by buying products in the same 'family' but not the exact product that is listed on the coupon. They can also use expired coupons, the computer does not catch them so it is up to the cashier to catch it. Twice, I've had a raincheck that 'allowed me' to use some expired Q's and they passed right through and the cashiers acknowledged that the computers still take expireds. Yes, the system is better than it was (before any coupon for anything would work) but it's still not what it will be. All of the implementation is apparently taking longer and most retailers still do not have the technology in place. I read an article online about it around a month ago... :O The new barcode will contain the specific items allowed and expiration date information. It may even contain information about what regions the coupon is valid in. As more coupons removed the old upc we'll start seeing more retailers getting on board! There are some coupons right now that contain the new barcode only and people have been having those beep because the stores they are using them at do not read the new barcode. :lmao: That seems to be the case at wags too...some wags registers work with the new barcode and some don't. Go figure...!?!? I hope it's not much longer for all the changes...

BTW, eta...Last night I saw a news story about an announcement that Conagra made that they would be increasing the prices of their products to keep up with the price of commodities....

This is totally OT, but do we have a Petsmart deals thread or discussion thread on SD? I've searched and can't find it. Thanks,

The biggest problem I see with having these "smart" coupons with all of this information embedded in the new bar code - what do you do when it beeps (as we all know even perfectly legitimate coupons often do)? Either a cashier is going to shrug and push it through, which would defeat the purpose of making these coupons "smart"... or more stores are going to adopt a "if it doesn't scan, we can't take it" policy ("if the coupon is smart, there must be a good reason it beeped!")

which is why I stated "why the he!l did this beep" in my post. If they are coded for the wrong area of the country, no one would even know, but they would beep for everyone.

Ozma 09-21-2011 01:12 PM

Anyone Been to WM.....

...and tried the new $6/2 Schick disposables coupon? Did it scan?

Went this AM and found 12 packs for 1.97.....had 12 in my order...6 coupons.....stuff to absorb the overage (coupons say no cash back if value exceeds)...and they beeped to high heaven!

After a 20 minute wait...with people lined up behind me...FINALLY the CSM came back and said; "if it doesn't scan we can't take it".

Arggghhh! How do ya'll that do WM STAND it?????

Please enlighten...I swear every time I go there I tell myself Never Again!

And then in about a year I try again with the same results....:stress:

There were some keebler coupons that beeped that I had, in that case they had actually scanned the new barcode apparently because the cashier didn't even bat an eye she covered the new barcode with her finger and rescanned and saw my bewildered look and said 'the registers couldn't take the new barcode yet'.

I've had that happen at walgreens too where it beeps and they they cover up the new barcode and it scans the older one first and it works.

I think if they do limit things 'regionally' then that's definitely going to alter the way that people purchase coupons online. I wouldn't doubt then that they start printing something designating it on the coupon as well. I anticipate a lot of changes overall coming up...especially with the show being so high profile. Already unilever is now printing 'limit 4 per shopping trip' on some coupons in this weekend's inserts. They want to cater to the individuals out there who use coupons basically to buy the name brand over the store brand, they definitely are going to do whatever it takes to make it more difficult to get items for free/nearly free in large quantities.

I haven't tried it yet, sadly I was only able to print one of those because my printer somehow didn't print out the first time.

I can understand with an internet printable why they may not want to accept it...people have done things like photocopy, etc. so I can see why they would be unlikely to want to take it if it didn't scan.

I feel like ranting and this is the best place possible. A few days ago I got 4 of those 1 stop 1 shop booklets and noticed that they were all missing the dropps coupons. I thought ok publix must have cut them out for some reason since they did not want PQs to go with their sales. Turns out some lame jerk had cut them out and put the booklets back. Well I got a couple more today and they did have the dropps coupons but when I went to get the product I noticed that someone had taken every single MQ off the product. WHY? The product is free so wtf are you saving the coupons for. Oh wait ebay. To the jerkoff who stole yes STOLE all the coupons from the weldon blvd store in lake mary, FL I will be watching out for you and so are the employees who are also sick of it. Play by the frickin rules and stop being a jerk. If the product is free with the coupon then take the damn product along with the coupon and stop being an asshole.

I went to 4 stores today for Dropps and every.single.peelie was gone. I can only assume that they took them, got a RC and were waiting for more of the One Stop booklets. Or they're just assholes.

I found 1 lone peelie and used a SAL Q to cover the cost of the rest. 10 bags, along with other items, cost me a little over $2 today. Could have been better, but I won't argue (much).

My store had plenty of the 1 stop booklets so no RC was required. I talked to the manager and he cannot even put out coupons anymore because 1 person will take them all. I play fairly and still have amassed a huge stockpile. There is no need to cheat or steal or do any of that stuff. Come on people.

I found 1 lone peelie and used a SAL Q to cover the cost of the rest. 10 bags, along with other items, cost me a little over $2 today. Could have been better, but I won't argue (much).

Peelies...never saw any here. And the packages didn't look like they ever had any, so it wasn't folks just stealing them. I paid $1 each for 14 bags (divided into two transactions, each with a $/$$). Funny thing is I don't even use detergent (I make my own laundry soap)...just figured they'd be better stocking stuffers than a heavy bottle of Tide! :teehee:

Where do all the $X off $Y (competitor or not) come from? Expired Publix $5 off $30 or $5 off $35 cannot be used here.

There isn't one single Publix in Huntsville that has Sav-A-Lot as a competitor. There are no Winn-Dixies here, so they aren't a competitor.

The ones here definitely had them, you could still see the clear backing where the coupon was.

Anddd I got my Shabby Chic bedding today for 75% off :woot: Now I just need to decide on the colors. I originally wanted pink (and I picked one up), but the khaki/beige is growing on me and I could use the magenta sheets I got last week with it. Also picked up a soft blanket in a pretty green for $14.98- can't believe someone would pay $60 for it! It's the same material as some of the college blankets, but it's a full/queen, which is super nice.

Any coupons that exceeds the price of the item will beep at WM to be verified. It should have come up as is coupon amount valid? Cashier should just verify you bought the right product and push the button to accept the coupon.

What is wrong with these CSM's not scanning would be the computer not scanning the barcode...that I can see them refusing. But beeping to verify price is totally different.

We go to WM once in a while - this weekend, we picked up some Cascade trial size and the cashier wouldn't take it. Mind you, this is a WM that has the coupon policy AT EACH REGISTER. WTH??? A cashier told us the other day that she knew her (wrong) stuff because she had worked there for 5 years and all I could think was "yeah, and this is where you'll be in 10, too". Seems she couldn't read either.

WM is frustrating, no doubt, but when you find a good cashier, the coupon policy is great. I'm hopeful that because of their size other chains will model their coupon policies on WM's.

I don't even know if they got the peelies here or what because all of the Dropps were gone. One store gave me a raincheck for them, the other store said they couldn't because it was an in store special.

I hope I can find some with peelies for the raincheck!

The other big problem was finding the Pillsbury scrambles/biscuit sandwhiches. They said they were out at the warehouse. :( I went to three Publix and only came out with some vitamins, 3 bags of pepperoni, a bunch of bananas, loaf of bread and two cartons of eggs. :(

Ugh, I hate when something is so hard to find - frustrating.

As an aside, DH and I thought the biscuit sandwiches were :vomit: I would definitely recommend, if you are heating them in the microwave, to use the instructions of 50% power. If you don't then the biscuit is really tough.

I had to do mine the lowest amount of time or it would get hard. I guess I'm disadvantaged not having a deep freeze. I bought two packs, then went back a second time and there were none. I found a guy stocking in the freezer section and he said that a coupon lady had been in there earlier and bought 24 of them, and then asked him to see if they had any more in the back. :omg: Definitely does not help if the store doesn't limit quantities! I would have bought my max of 10 in the beginning if I'd had the freezer space! Now I have tons of freezer space and no product! :O

Weight watchers gals...

Wanted to ask you all what you think of the new points plus program. I gave most of my old ww books away, I've basically reverted back to the old '1-2-3 success' books I've had (which was like the *first* points program ever! I might have one of those points finders from back then, but I'm wondering what some of you think about the new program.

I found out that as of last year they no longer allow non-members to buy books there, just wondering if people thought the changes were so good that I should consider buying or finding a friend to buy me some of their materials. :O Not that I'm a fan of having to completely relearn a new system, but if it's that much better it may be worth it.

I do know that Petsmart sent me an email with a 15% off in store q (not much, but it's something, right)...it seems to be universal usage for everyone (a lot of their q's print with your name and petperks card number on it, but this one didn't. See if this link [petsmart.com] works...if not, I'll upload my PDF.

After I got that email, I logged in to my Petperks account and clicked on coupons. There are MQ's for $2/1 Purina One Beyond cat food and $2/1 Purina One Beyond dog food. They print with your name and Petperks number and say "Valid at Petsmart stores through 12/31/11", but are MQ's with retailer remit info. Can print to PDF...

There were a few other q's in my account, including $5 off Biljac dog food and $5 off a hamster and a couple others (B?G1 Royal Canin cat food cans, some treat for free wyb a certain dog food...don't remember them all now...sorry!)

I don't know if they would work at Publix, but if they did they may take the TQ with it...if you can use it on the small boxes they would be a slight mm.

Making pork in the crockpot with dr. pepper. I had it from last November (yeah, I think I mentioned before I don't drink soda often) rolling between some rr at walgreens. :O Hope it works, I need a different way to use them up. I am actually really picky on what I feed my animals. I buy the cheap/free stuff for the shelter, but only feed Nutro, Blue Buffalo, Wilderness, Castor & Pollux, etc at home. I've been lucky to have Q's for one or more of those at any given time, but there seems to be a bit of a dry spell on them right now. I've probably got a month or so before I run out completely, so I'm OK for now, but I'm so used to seeing 10 bags of dog food piled up in the corner that I'm feeling a bit panicked. I'll probably pick one up with the 15% q just to allay the fears but hold out for a better deal so I can stock up again.

Linky no worky?

Weird, link works for me. Wayshar and I posted the same link though. Authority cat food at Petsmart 4 lb bag for $0.99 AC and a few people reported tearpads for 2 free cans wyb the bagged food. Not sure if that's a brand you're willing to feed, but a step up from Whiskas for sure

I haven't ever looked at Authority before...I'll have to check it out. THANKS to both of you!!!!

Wonder if the 15% will work on top of it? Edit: probably not...the Authority q is a store q. But maybe...?
Edit again!: reports in that deal's thread say the 15% q works too :whee:

Well I got a couple more today and they did have the dropps coupons but when I went to get the product I noticed that someone had taken every single MQ off the product. WHY? The product is free so wtf are you saving the coupons for. Oh wait ebay. To the jerkoff who stole yes STOLE all the coupons from the weldon blvd store in lake mary, FL I will be watching out for you and so are the employees who are also sick of it. Play by the frickin rules and stop being a jerk. If the product is free with the coupon then take the damn product along with the coupon and stop being an asshole.

Maybe they were being considerate - as they only wanted/needed the Dropps coupon - and didn't want to take the whole book in case someone else could use the other coupons.

I'm really annoyed...

DH had what he thought was a 'good dental appt' yesterday, the person there said everything looked good, etc.

Well, *then* I get a call from someone at the office saying that he has two cavities. She said that the dentist got there (she was late and did not examine him) and was looking at x-rays.

I'm already not feeling as comfortable with this (she never examined him AND I tend to be conservative with treatment trying to arrest the decay first--which I've done in the past) as this was not the original dentist we saw at this practice, sadly the other dentist at the practice we loved passed away.

So, then today I get a treatment plan for him sent to the house for THREE fillings?!? Already called them and supposedly someone is going to call me back. I don't like the way this was handled...at all! And, for him to 'spontaneously' get three new cavities after we officially have to switch to the new dentist? This does not feel good to me...

(I think I mentioned that over a decade ago when I first moved to Florida and saw a 'new' dentist it was 'claimed' that I needed 9 fillings. YEAH, 9! Ran the hell away from that dentist and to another dentist that said just what I knew I needed none!)

rydergal 09-22-2011 12:40 PM

Ok, I ran some numbers on the Authority deal. If by chance anyone is interested in dog food instead of cat food, the 8lb bags come up to 44 cents per pound after 15% and $5 (I assumed the 15% comes off first, so if that's not true, the numbers would change a wee bit). Based on the starting price of 9.99, total should be $3.49 + tax.

If the 15% does come off first, the cat food is a slight MM...

1.58 (2 cans)
5.99 (4# bag)

7.57 total

-1.14 (15%)
-5.00 (dry food q)
-1.58 (2 cans free q)

-7.72 in q's

Net $.15 in overage to help pay for tax or apply towards something else (I have no idea how PS registers handle overage, so YMMV)

Even if the 15% doesn't come off first, you are still looking at some seriously cheap or free cat food. :whee:

I'm so with you! I feel NO motivation to shop here though. I'm so exhausted here it's not funny....I haven't eluded much to the fact I've been playing single mom a lot recently. DH has been travelling for work a lot, and I'm thoroughly worn out. I was thinking the other night that I have all the signs of depression here, but I don't feel sad, I just feel exhausted and worn out! I need like a week off to sleep. I'm just so drained.

The only positive is that the sale ads haven't been that great, so I'm not really missing much or anything I absolutely need!

You and me both! I actually answered the questions on the depression commercial, all but sad. I feel like I'm playing single mom too - DH is here, but he's been sick since March and is now recovering from surgery. I get aggravated because (I get he can't do much physical stuff), but come on - nothing's wrong with your voice! We're sitting side by side right now (both on our own netbooks), yet I'm the one constantly saying "Faith, don't push your sister", "Ava don't put that in your mouth", "stop jumping" "get off her head" "get down".......ugh!

I do WANT to go at least to CVS. My aunt uses Revlon exclusively and they have her lipstick on ECB deal - so I want to stock up for Christmas for her. However, I get exhausted trying to plan little $25, $20 (whatever) trips. I just want all 6 lipsticks, but what the heck would I do with a $30ecb??!!

Is there anything you *really* want to do, or need to tackle that you could accomplish/work on that might make you feel excited about being alive? I think one thing that's feeling weird about my situation right now is that there doesn't seem to be anything I really enjoy. Sure, shopping is 'great' but I can only buy so much! Do you have anything that really evokes a passion and fire in you?

I'm realizing I need to hone in on some of the things I'm passionate about, otherwise I'm just not getting recharged. And, I'm feeling like I really need to do something to re-energize myself and my health. Being in my 30s I'm really starting to feel time ticking. All those things I was thinking I would do later....I think I need to stop thinking I'll do it later because I think the later I was thinking of in the past is actually now! :lmao:

I'm going to be focusing in on increasing my b vitamins (I do have some of those), fatty acids and adding about 20 minutes of aerobic exercise to start.

Honestly, there's not much. It's pretty hard to be excited about life when you're 26, single and living with your parents who make you want to slit your wrists. I don't make friends easily and the idea of meeting people scares me more than seeing a bug. I don't have anything I'm exceptionally good at. And the hobby things I would like to focus on, I can't do because of space.

My ability to give a crap lately is nonexistant. I just don't care about anything. Might as well sleep til noon, no one needs me/wants me/would notice anyway. I find it troubling when I don't care about getting healthy because part of me is thinking maybe I'll just have a heart attack and die early. Sigh.

I have a degree in sociology and minored in psych. I know this thinking lately is not healthy and can be downright dangerous at times, given my propensity for self destruction. I just don't know how to change it.

I like their points program quite a bit - it's one of the few things that I really feel helps me lose weight for the long run since it teaches you how much to eat. I don't see too much of a huge difference between the old program and the new one, supposedly it takes into account carbs, but with the new program, you can't calculate your own points, its either with a calculator that you buy, or by the published books (at least that is what I understood when I went to a couple of meetings around May). I like the online version too, so maybe you can try that one. I still think the old slide rule was the best thing ever.

I'm with you on this too. It's been a tough year with some health issues that have caused weight gain and family turmoil and I just feel tired all the time and overwhelmed. Work is driving me crazy too...it used to be great, but I'm just not the type that is sneaky or is strategizing how to get people pushed down so I can get up. I hate that.

Anyways, ladies, chin up - you're all seem pretty interesting to me, pretty cool to have as neighbors, actually. If there is one thing we can all be glad about here is that at least we weren't stuck in an Iranian prison for two years:)

ETA: is my SD screwy or did tons of threads renew? Seems like lots of the chat threads have only two pages all of a sudden - big coincidence if they all hit the renewal number at the same time!

Oh boy. My giving-a-crap meter isn't working very well lately either. I'm 22, single, and recently graduated from school... I have 3 roommates in my house... and all I want to do is sit around, watch movies, and eat. The hardest part about trying is starting! Maybe you can find a hobby that you enjoy? I picked up a new sport this year and I love it. If it weren't for me exercising about 8 hours a week, I would not be able to justify the amount of food I eat. lol.

But seriously, starting is the hardest step. I know how you feel, and I felt the same way earlier this year. I'm also quite stubborn, so I ignored my feelings, and started exercising, despite my body's protests and lack of motivation. One of my favorite quotes is, "Obstacles are what you see when you take your eye off your goal." Perhaps this perspective can help you reach a new goal?

rydergal 09-22-2011 09:05 PM

Apparently antique desks seal quite well and do an excellent job of containing odors. I found what was either a burst can of dog food or a dead rodent in a drawer tonight (impossible to tell which...can and blob were very mingled and I wasn't going to examine it any further) and now the entire house reeks of dead animal. Apparently it had been there for a while, which means apparently I don't treat my dogs to canned food often enough...not that it'll be an issue anymore...every can in the drawer went in the trash.
Oh, and now the carport reeks from the garbage can, and trash doesn't run until Tuesday. Joy.

The drawer and the inside of the desk have been soaked in bleach and Lysol...time to get the mm Airwicks out!

rydergal 09-23-2011 05:06 AM

It's awfully quiet in here. Do I smell funny or something?

Sorry if it was TMI or a bit much for some folks, but if I didn't laugh about it now, I might cry. Story of my life lately, it seems.

tn_native 09-23-2011 06:01 AM

:sniff: :sniff: what's that smell?

I resisted the urge to buy Sunchips last night :woot: I know they would just end up on my hips and thighs. (small victories need to be celebrated!)

Sorry in advance for such a long reply, but I'm feeling very chatty on this TGIF day!!

I understand how living with your parents by itself is enough to drive a person crazy, but I also really feel like the internet is an absolute revelation.

I don't schmooze very well and can understand meeting people en masse being intimidating. But with the internet...! :) DH and I actually met through a mutual online friend - he's from Scotland and we are often in happy awe that we were able to find each other.

I'm not trying to push internet dating or anything like that, but clearly you've made friends/people who support you here on SD (I would call myself one of them! ) and while you may not have the space for your hobby physically, online I'm sure you can find like-minded folk to share with :)

I'm far too cynical for motivational quotes lately. Even the idea of doing stuff is exhausting. It's too much work and effort and I just don't have it in me.

I hope you have some of those 'odor detect' ones, though maybe it would just be a constant spray if it caught onto something particularly funky. ;)

I'm not inherently against internet dating...but my last experience with that wasn't exactly pleasant. Or maybe I'm just a magnet for jerks (which is possible).

I used to love sewing and making clothes- my sewing machine has been in my garage since we moved :(

Oh my, if I could take a 'time travel' vacation going back to when I was that age would be something I likely would do. You say there's nothing your exceptionally good at...well first of all, if it's a passion of yours how good do you have to be? And, if you never actually do it is it even possible to get good at it.

I remember someone once telling me about those things that we tell ourselves, you know--that little subtle inner voice you have. Is that inner voice always negative? If it is, you can't let it be. Or at least don't listen to it and try to state something more positive. Most of us have this picture of what we want our lives to be like and for the vast majority of us we don't just spontaneously get there...it involves a lot of work and effort.

Supposedly there's a 'formula' to the new points plus. It's more complicated than the old...I saw it on a website yesterday, maybe I can find it again today and post it. I was mainly wondering about the old vs. new...the whole formula itself changed for the first time like in 13 years!

DH said something smelled like death the other week...he did a search and found a can of cat food just a smigen opened underneath the chair. I think the 5 year old tried to open it, pulled the tab off and then didn't want to ask for help...I'm guessing because I'm really picky about when I feed them wet food and he knew he's supposed to ask me first!

Me, me! I wasn't even looking, lol. I was in a chat room, and this person kept telling DH how big her boobs were and so-on. He didn't reply to her at all - and she kept going on and on and on. Finally, he said, "I'm going to marry the girl who knows her computer", to which I sent him an IM with some ASCII stuff.

Love at first type :lmao: Met in person July 4th, "promise ring" (looked an awful lot like an engagement ring to me :lmao: SAME WEEKEND  (this was after about 4-5 months chatting on the phone, then married on Christmas Day

We didn't intend on moving that fast, but he received orders to Japan for 3-years. It was:
a. not see him for 3 years or
b. get married, get orders changed ASAP

I chose B. That was 13 years ago and the best decision I ever made.

shiftingkate 09-23-2011 02:35 PM

I'm going to go back and reply a little later tonight, but I'm in a surprisingly good mood after 2 smooth Publix trips! Had a decent amount of overage, got lots of dog treats and cat food and even the expensive Poligrip stuff my dad uses. I love when I can buy things that are useful :)

See, I can completely understand that...I knew I would wind up with my DH within the first week we knew eachother. When it works, it works! :bounce:

One of my closest IRL friends met her husband online as well, and she's generally *so shy* so funny as she felt 'safer' chatting online, and they've been together something like 16 years.

Are you using the bogo IP? I can't seem to print it from any of my 3 computers, it says I already printed my limit - but I can't remember EVER printing it (unless it was 100 years ago and never reset).

Is that from the Poligrip site? If so, every time I try to log in there, it kicks me back to the log in page, even if I make a new account. I just used the $1/1 from the 8/7 RP and the $1/1 PQ from One Stop One Store. So it made it $3.19 after coupons and my overage ate the cost :)

Ha! Sorry, I meant the bogo ip for the Milk Bone. I've tried that one and the Stouffer's one, making a new account & still :shake: I did find, however, if you "search" on Nestle's website for $1/1 Stouffer's - you get a ton of results...each link has someone else's email address in the URL. Haha, I was searching for a clipper that had more Poligrip MQs- guess I had it on the brain. :P

I had the $1.50/2 MQ & the $1.50/2 TQ- one of the stores had then for BOGO $3.50- good deal :) Coupons have been printing weird for me lately, they tend to time out for some reason or never print.

Anybody have any ideas on how to get dead animal smell out of a wooden desk? DH is dead set that we're going to have to burn it, but it's a family heirloom and I hate to throw in the towel just yet. :(

Bleach and Lysol have had absolutely no effect so far. I've doused the drawer and the desk a second time and we'll see if that helps any after soaking all night.

:( Maybe try a combination of baking soda, vinegar, and perhaps some lemon juice? And then set out in the sun for a couple of days. One of the cats did a heck of a number on a duffle back a couple of years ago and we couldn't wash it so I scrubbed it with baking soda and vinegar and then let it air out over a sunny weekend and it was AOK.

Great minds? I was just thinking vinegar might be the thing to try next. Guess we're gonna have to horse that stinking thing out onto the porch in the mean time though...it's stinking up the whole kitchen. :vomit:

Bleach and Lysol have had absolutely no effect so far. I've doused the drawer and the desk a second time and we'll see if that helps any after soaking all night.

I was going to recommend sun too. It's a great sanitizer. Put it outside covered in baking soda. Good luck! Stuff dies in our crawl space under the house every so often and I want to move out of my house those days! If all else fails, maybe you can have a carpenter replace the most offensive pieces of wood in the drawer.

Here is an article for removing odors. Here [ehow.com]

Okay, so my dad was on CL the other day and saw an ad for a guy looking for dog food because he can't afford it. So I emailed him and told him I had a few bags, thinking he had a small/medium dog, but he has a german shepard. I want to help him out, but I'm out of the loop on dog food deals. Are there any deals on dog food at Publix that I can cover with overage?

Thanks so much! I read quite a few articles from that link. I've wiped it down with vinegar and it's sitting out in the sun now. Will repeat in a bit, let dry, then sprinkle it with baking soda, stuff it with newspapers and charcoal and hope for the best!

I found a tag under one of the drawer liners that said "solid mahogany". I'd always suspected that, but wasn't sure. I really hope it comes out well, cuz lord knows all I would replace it with would be cheap crap from Walmart...

Hey, you've gotten some great advice here! And, if it doesn't work at first, don't give up! Who knows how long that animal was there. Activated charcoal would be something you could get at pet supply stores and is probably the most potent odor absorber out there...definitely more effective than baking soda. Either way I'd expect to leave what you use (baking soda/newspaper/activated charcoal) in the drawer for a while...and change it periodically until there's no odor.

If a store has a limit of 10 for items, but you have a coupon for 20 (as in $1/20, not 20 different coupons), should they accept it? It's a PQ and only for Fancy Feast, which has tons on the shelf.

Apparently PUBLIX intended for you to buy 20, so I'd say yes, Publix should take it. Is your store actually saying no, or are you just anticipating an issue? Gosh, I hate it when folks have trouble!

I already had this issue and got the whole "limits are there for a reason" and "we can't break the rules" thing.

:sadwalk:

If the limit is 10, why did Publix put out a q for 20?
:scratchh:

Some stores are so retarded. You can always come shop at mine!

I have a very coupon friendly store, but they are very strict on the limits. I get what they're saying, I just think it's dumb- especially when there has be hundreds of those cans on the shelf!

I'm with RG, how do you redeem a PQ for 20 items if there's a limit of 10 being enforced? It reminds me of the $5/20 PQ from Italian Days ... but my store didn't have a problem with letting me get 20 Progresso to use that PQ.

It just doesn't make any sense if they refuse they're own store coupon because of a limit ...

Pedigree is $10 after Q's at Publix.

From the Match-ups:
Pedigree Food for Dogs or Puppies, assorted varieties, 15 to 20 lb bag, $12.99
Pedigree Food for Dogs, 3.5 lb. + Bag, Any $1/1 (10/29/11) 09-18-11 RP
Pedigree Dry food for dogs $.55/1 or $2/1 (10/29/11) from donation at Publix and has Publix logo but is mfg. coupon
Pedigree dog dry 15.9lb or larger $2/1,9/28/2011,Publix Pet Club email (September)
Pedigree dry dog food 15-32lb bag $2/1,9/30/2011,Publix Pet Club email (August)

Not the greatest deal, but man those are flying off the shelves faster than the Wiskas.

Darn it, no Publix coupons in SS or CVS coupon insert in the Miami Herald this morning...booooo!

not at Publix, but Purina treats are 2/$6 at CVS and includes the huge 25 oz bag. $2 peelies or $2/1 printable (no longer available) for Beggin' Strips would work well... to be $1 a bag.

Price match at Target and Walmart too.

OK, I call shennanigans, especially as it was just on sale the other week for $11/20. Why would they put it on sale in the ad for $11 for 20 cans if you could only buy 10? I don't think cat food that has over 15 varieties compares in any way to lets say one product with two varieites! When I bought mine I wouldn't doubt there were about 1000 cans of fancy feast in the store...crazy that they're limiting on a product that has that kind of variety and quantity.

Would I know if I got the CVS insert? What does it look like?

The relatively lame ads the last few weeks really have me feeling like couponing is not really worth is so much this month. In one respect it's great to have a break, in another respect making a trip to the store for just a few things is really annoying, especially when it's likely gone anyhow. Of course, the fact I'm still so tired doesn't help either!

Stopped by a neighborhood garage sale the other day, and ran into another couponer (she'd only been doing it for about 2 years or so). I've never sold my extras, but she definitely was. She really had stuff priced to move. In fact, most of it she said was nearly gone in the first 25 minutes. She could have used a pricing guide or something. She still had some of the pricing signs out and OMG she priced them way too cheap I thought! Hell, if I'm thrifty and I thought it was a great deal it's a bad sign...:lmao:. Of course, guess the only thing left....25 cent bottles of sundown 'vitamins'...she had a medium sized bin half filled. Guess that's why I have problems finding vitamins at the closest Publix.

CVS was a 4-page flyer (of the few I got something took a bite out of them).
It was not in the TT's that dh bought.

We did not get the CVS booklet here. I got some from a wonderful friend in S.Fl though. The front of it says CVS Pharmacy Extra savings book. It has MQ's and CVS store q's in it. They expire 10/1/11. So, not a lot of time to use them anyway.

just edited my post as the 1 I chose to look at was just 1 page due to it being ripped..
I guess it was better to have 1/2 then nothing (maybe?).

They won't let you print them. If you click on one of the many links, it brings you to the page with the coupon on it. If you look at the URL, it has someone else's email address in the URL bar. When you click the coupon to print it, it brings you to a screen that says "you are logged in as so-and-so, would you like to log out and log-in as (whatever email address is URL)" ....but still not cool to show other peeps email addresses in the url bar.

Yikes, that's not good at all! I thought you had found lots of printables, not lots of people's email addresses  I'm all for cheap Stouffer's, but not if it means the company is going to publish the email address of everyone who ever asked for a little $1 coupon.

I know right! I freaked out at first (thinking I'd been hacked or something) because it referenced: _ _ _ freckles @ yahoo.com - and I'm like - WHO IS THAT??!! When I clicked on the 2nd link, it referenced c_ _ _ k_chick@yahoo.com. Then I was like AHA! and started looking at the urls. Somehow it's cacheing the click-thrus off of banner ads or emailed newsletters/emails and showing them in the search results.

The worst I've heard lately is coupon shoppers who just regurgitate deals from site and can only justify coupon usage to cashiers by saying crap like "well, x site said it was okay..." Uhm, hello, how about learning a bit about couponing before you do it?!

What's with the lack of Target printables lately? It's been weeks since they've added a new batch, when it used to happen pretty regularly every Sunday morning. I've been holding out buying some things at Publix, hoping that a good TQ will pop up to combine with whatever sale/MQ combo I have, but it hasn't happened and it's getting annoying!

Target's ad in general has sucked as of lately. Normally there are at least a few things I would like in them, but lately not so much. Sales have been somewhat crappy around here.

Does anyone get the Florida Times Union or the Gainesville Sun? We only got 1 RP insert in the Florida Times Union (home delivery) this week and last week. I was wondering if the q's in the Gville Sun are any better?

Wow, that certainly does expire quickly! I guess they want to make sure people don't have time to match them up with future deals! Likely wouldn't have worked out here as I rarely shop cvs anyhow!

Yeah, I just think they need to get their butt in gear...they were just $11/20 the other week...and if they're encouraging people to purchase 20 in the ad then turn around and say nope you can't then it's sort of a bait and switch scam in a way. Grr...thankfully my store recognized that they likely had 1000 different cans of that food and had no issues letting me buy what I needed!

Sigh...it's amazing the way people try to justify that kind of stuff...YUCK!

Did make a super quick stop at Publix last night, just for the rainchecks I had expiring. Had some household plumbing issues pop up, may have checked another store or two for what I wanted, but no time after I had to devote a couple hours to fixing stuff...

Everyone have a great week! :woot:

It seems like the last few weeks that I have typed the Target ad up it's a repeat of the week before for the most part :sadwalk: I think it's retailers in general, the sales at Publix have been yucky for months now. Maybe they are gearing up for the holidays :dontknow:

I'm not sure what it is...I know they all say that commodities in general were getting higher, and that they were trying not to push as many costs onto the retailer but some have had to. Gosh, I think they're going to have to pull out all the stops for the holidays. I won't be making any non-food purchases unless they've got some stellar deals. I shop all year for the holidays, and my kids are pretty well set up from some deals in the past year, including those beautiful 50% off coupons from barnes and noble...sigh...the memories. So, we're set for legos at least.

I had a good experience with the Whiskas today. I hadn't bought any yet, but pushed myself to get out this morning. It turns out the store I went to did have both 3.3 and 3.0 pound bags. They said I could use the coupon on either, which was cool! And, they did say they believe there was a typo and it should have read 2.7 TO 3.3 pound bags. The funny part was, the guy then got really quiet and said..."we'll accept them but you know we're not supposed to accept photocopies..." with an accusatory look no less. OK, another store who does not know they have these printable online. DOH. I told him about signing up online for the pet club and getting the emails and the fact that they're printable online! I wish they'd educate their cashiers about this fact!

Otherwise, everything was great! :bounce:

I stopped by a different Publix today and bought 6 of the Airwicks (amongst other things) and was told I couldn't use the $5/2 PQ on the "free" ones because they are "free". Long story short, I had to explain to: cashier, bagger, CS person, CS Manager, ASM, how they get reimbursed for the MQ and that they are not "free", I am paying for them with a coupon. They ended up calling the SM who said okay (maybe just to shut me up). Yes, there were 5 people standing around my one lane over a $5 coupon!

Then went to CVS and cashier "missed" one of my b1g1 coupons (didn't catch until I got home). Then went MCD and asked to be "upsized" and asked for hot mustard. I got med fries/med drink and honey.

Started this day by going to the beach between rain drops.

Air Wick 3 oz candles are $3.49 at Publix and there is a $5/2 Publix coupon in the new One Stop One Store booklet plus there is a B2G1 manuf coupon in the 9/18 SS.

Buy 6 and use 3 store coupons and 2 manuf coupons and make $1.04 overage before tax.

I'm guessing she's talking about the airwick candle deal? It's a slight moneymaker (someone said there may be some printable MQ that make it a big moneymaker). There are some MQ in the inserts as well as $5/2 in the one stop book. So, they buy 6 and they're basically a slight mm after tax. I didn't catch it here, but funny as it was I caught it doing a google search today for something else and I caught it. I haven't even looked for any yet myself woops! :O I don't use air fresheners or artificially scented stuff, but I actually do occasionally use candles so this is one of the few I would likely use so I will appreciate it.

We get the Sun, and there was no SS in it. Debating whether to order or not...

From Sunday? I got my SS in the Sun as well as a RP. There have been a few times where I got no inserts, but that is very rare.

Yep, from Sunday. Got the RP, got the CVS, but no SS.

Buy 6 and use 3 store coupons and 2 manuf coupons and make $1.04 overage before tax.

Ooh awesome!! Looks like I will have to add that to my run tomorrow. We are about out of candles and my SO loves to have a few going in the evenings.

Sometimes I hate the Sun. So far there have been many times where inserts with big coupons were taken out on mine, but that all stopped when they fired the person that delivers mine. Honestly I did not think these inserts were that good and they made me question even having a subscription. :(

Don't bank on those candles for your scenario - they're about as scarce as....um....the Airwick imotions were at CVS (if you do CVS).

Yes, if you sign up for Airwicks Fragrance Club, or whatever it's called, they email you a coupon good for $2/2. I didn't attempt it - as I can NEVER remember the coding for a B2G1 (is it 16 that covers 3)??

Okay and I hate to ask, but what is the deal with the Airwicks? Are they on sale?

I see everyone's already answered :) $3.49 is the normal shelf price, no sale - just the combo of coupons. Don't bank on these for a MM scenario - maybe a Plan B scenario. I've been to 4 Publii numerous times since Friday and have only managed to find 1 at one store, 6 at another store and the first store HAD about 24, I bought 6, sent DH back next day & they were all gone except 1.

I've been told that at times too - I wonder if it's in the "secret long version" of the coupon policy that you can't use a coupon on a "free" item. It makes no sense though, since as you say, they're getting reimbursed for it whether it's free to you or not.

Now, whenever I have a coupon to stack on a free item, I actually hand over the free coupon last. I know it's "coupon etiquette" to put the B1G1's first in your pile of coupons, but they're less likely to refuse a stacked coupon on the free item if they've already scanned it, before they even know you're getting the item for "free". It seems a little shady and sneaky having to do it that way, but I don't think there's anything wrong with it - I just find it helps to avoid situations like you describe.

I think I know where I can get some. It's funny cause my normal store was ransacked in the candle section and I was wondering why, now I know. :lmao: There are about 2 stores here that seem to not get hit so bad and I am not really sure why. Both stores have always had tons of the vitamins when everywhere else had run out (not that I buy them often though). Same with most other sales. :omg:

I usually go prepared with several scenarios in case there is an issue, but really I already had today's list ready to go and adding that makes it sweeter if I can find it.

im-da-bomb 09-27-2011 09:54 AM

No B2G1 free air wick candle q's here! Darnit!!!
The few stores that I went to this week were completely cleared of the candles anyway so probably wasn't gonna happen. At least not a whole 6 of them at one time!

OT: Does anyone know if there is a thread on here or elsewhere that does Winn Dixie matchups?

Yep, there's a WD thread. It's not terribly active though...no one has posted anything since 9/22. But, FrugalFairhope is usually pretty good about posting the ad each week, so there's that.

Outside of SD, I know SouthernSavers does a WD matchup each week, and FrugalFairhope has her own blog.

Edit...BTW, somehow the one cardinal rule of the P Chat Thread has been broken...the Airwick deal hasn't been shared in the regular deals thread! I know many of us read both, and I know it just kinda happened...wasn't intentional...but it definitely blurs the lines. I'm gonna make a post (giving all OP's credit of course) in the regular thread so it's there for posterity, where it should be.

I could have sworn it was mentioned before when the One Stop books were being talked about. There's no way I've been doing that deal for well over a week and no one else had talked about it?

I don't recall any mention of it at all (which doesn't necessarily mean it wasn't mentioned in passing...I have been known to miss something here and there! :) ). And it doesn't help that the thread renewed recently, so any chatter about it before then would be archived now. But I can say via search that no one has mentioned Airwick (or Air Wick) in the new thread since it started on 9/17, and the booklets were first reported on 9/15.

I guess sometimes folks see things other places and forget that they didn't see them here? I'm not trying to be catty or grumpy or anything like that at all, I promise...just trying to tell myself that I may need to expand my horizons sometimes, because occasionally things do get missed here.

And no worries at all, I promise! I'm not mad at anyone...I just wanted to make sure it was in the deals thread too!

Sorry I've been MIA. Things have been very crazy.... got back out west yesterday and unfortunately found out this morning that my Mother passed away right after I left. More than likely I will be busy taking care of personal issues but would appreciate everyone keeping me and my family in their prayers during this difficult time.

The goofy thing was, I just found out about it last night (of course after spending my day shopping at Publix (doh) and then coming home and doing matchups for a few hours. I did a google search and saw a thread on one of the other websites that was talking about a mm at Publix. I figured it was probably posted here and I missed it, but I definitely didn't read about it here (but hey, I miss stuff when it's mentioned even sometimes). So, I just found out as well...I probably will have little luck of getting it, but at least I know now to bring them. I'm certain they've been there a few times I was there.

I'm going to go take some comfort in one of those Dove pints. I've actually had those in the freezer and have not really touched them (the kids and DH have though). I'm stressed and exhausted after being up overnight with two sick kiddos, and now my throat hurts so something cold sounds nice! Trying to think of a positive about getting sick. :(

Crud! Maybe kallison & I are communicating telepathically, lol. I certainly didn't come up with this deal on my own - and I only frequent 1 other website - and it wasn't posted there when I did it.

Maybe this, but IDK where I would've seen it - I have never been to any of the other sites - except HCW and on the rare occassion, IHP (haven't been there in forever though).

Hey Chatters, have another techie question. Specifically, a phone-techie question. I have finally decided to upgrade to a smart phone and am looking for some honest reviews on what's out there. Not looking for the absolute top-of-the-line or anything. I have service through AT&T currently and will probably stay with them, although I am not loyal to them by any stretch of the imagination. They seem to have the best coverage in my area.

I want to be able to download & use apps, and do basic internet stuff, like browse my sd deals, check email, etc.

Oh, and I don't want a contract if I can avoid it. I was thinking about going through Hellmart's Straight Talk program.

What do ya think?

I ditched AT&T and my iPhone a year ago and I've never looked back- too much money and not worth it.

I have Virgin Mobile now and the Triumph [virginmobileusa.com]. It's an Android, so I use probably 90% of the same apps as the iPhone. I have the $35/mo plan (unlimited data, text & 300 mins) and it's perfect for me.

So I am hoping I can find at least one of these yellow flyers!

Nope I did not forget about it, the only problem with that coupon is only one is allowed per transaction, where in the yellow flyer it is one per purchase.
the wording on the PDF coupon won't fly in my Publix, they are very strict with 1 Q only.
That is why I was trying to find the YAB, because of that!
Thanbks though for helping other remember just in case they forgot

Well, I think I'm doing OK...I get all of my yellow flyer Q's cut out in anticipation of free cereal. Then I go to my 9/25 SS and NO COUPONS! Not one coupon for Fiber One/Total. &($*%& St. Pete TImes....grr....

OK, my post is not helpful...they've been out for the last 2-3 weeks. I think the sundown/pillsbury deal killed it for flyers.

The coupons in the Miami Herald have been pretty crappy too - lately I don't have alot of the food coupons.

Speaking of which...anyone interested in a trade - I need a couple of the Banquet chicken coupons. We didn't get those either:( I get inserts - let me know.

I just realized reading your post I wrote sundown/pillsbury deal...I meant sundrop. Funny that vitamins and soda linked in my head. I didn't even get the soda as I don't drink the stuff LOL.

Are these the PQ you're asking about? PM me.

They're still free if you can use a SAL Q though :D

Yeah, I realized quickly buy 10 boxes....though didn't make it back to re-edit...omg my kids are driving me bonkers today...I should realize by now I can't do anything I want to do while they're around.

The blessing here is that I got enough YAF from doing the Pillsbury deal a while back.

I decided to finally clean out my car and found a bunch of the yellow fliers shoved under the seats

I'm having a small stockpile sale this weekend and trying to get everything organized. I don't buy things with the intention to sell, but sometimes I end up with too much and I need to get rid of it. Crazy that things I picked up 1 or 2 at a time have really accumulated!

OK, my post is not helpful...they've been out for the last 2-3 weeks. I think the sundown/pillsbury deal killed it for flyers.

Try the 9/11 GM insert

I have a store that is desperate for sales (they're in an area that is predominately snowbirds, so summers are slowww), so they let me use multiple SAL Qs. So lots of cereal (some to keep, some to donate) and other goodness in later transactions :D

Good news - I actually found exactly six Air Wick candles today, enough for one complete deal! Bad news - they were the "cool linen/white lilac" scent, and oh man, do they STINK! :yuk: Maybe I just have an aversion to things that smell like an old lady's powder room, but I need to give these away pronto because the smell is burned into my nostrils like a bad song that you can't get out of your head...

Wcw, if you dont mind sharing, which stores have you been to that DON'T have stock of the candles so that I can not bother going there?

I was at three stores today and NOTHING. They claimed they were out at the warehouse.

Yeah, I had those, so at least I can use 3 of those for every 10 boxes. :lmao: So, I'll get $3 of something that won't melt in the car. :lmao: I sent you a pm, btw, don't know if you got it.

I went out to get some last minute things I was gone like 3 hours and didn't really get that much quantity wise. But, used up the fancy feast Q's I had! So, accomplished something I guess. :bounce: I fear some coupons I want to use are going to expire before I get to use them. Chalk it up to me not using them EARLY like I should have. It's easy to let things slip my mind when I've got so much going on.

Oh, and there were *four* couponers at the store when I was tonight. And, I mean HEAVY hitters, WTF is with that....grr....my stores are too well shopped. They were all getting massive quantities (while I got very little of course).

The little red one? I will see if my store has any more when I head out today. 2 days ago we had a huge display with tons of them.

thinkbeforeyouspeak 09-29-2011 06:56 AM

struggling emotionally today....lots of stuff: finances, health, feeling "stuck" in our current house (don't wanna be here anymore), probably NOT going to PA to see "fall" (honestly cannot afford it - if we went, it would be put on cc).

My 16-month old starts speech therapy today - which is probably a lot of my emotional issues right now. My house is filthy & the more I try to clean it, the more they (3.5yo, 16mo), mess it up ;-) She scored at a 3-year old level on 2 of the developmental questions, be she only scored at 10mo on speech. I've been asking since she was 9-months old about her non-verbalness - someone FINALLY listened. She's extremely glottal, doesn't move her lips when she makes sounds, no words, etc. She has started saying uh-oh in the past 3 days though.

Okay enough rambling, have to go blow my nose now (crying, not sick) & pull myself together!!

Sounds like your having a rough day. I hope that it gets better. Having worked with quite a few different therapists in the past for my son, I'm sure you will find this to be a pleasant experience.

Does anyone remember what the last ConAgra rebate was? I got 3 calls on my cell(when I was working of course and couldn't answer) and googled the number and it was ConAgra but I don't recall what it might have been for. I guess I should keep better track of these thing.

I guess I'm thrilled SD isn't blocked  on the thought!

OK, I'm not chatters, but here's my 2 cents anyway :)

I bought a tracphone off fleabay for $120 included 12 months of service, 1200 minutes and triple minutes for life. It is a touch screen and looks like this Attachment 694110.

Nothing fancy, but I can check slickdeals, and do basic internet stuff.

So sorry you're struggling. Motherhood is so hard sometimes, and with young children...OMG I completely understand. I've been there, done that...hell I'm still there. ;) Too much going on right now as it is.

There's some quote a friend always tells me...something like "cleaning a house with young children is like....yada yada." OK, I'm so flippin tired I can't even remember the quote! But it's kind of like laundry, it's never done. Just when you think you're done then more laundry shows up....sigh.

I went to shop at 12 places this morning. WTF was I thinking! My whole body aches already. I was indeed amazingly efficient! I got a lot done--but, now I just want to fall over.

Things have just been crazy the past couple of days. I paid 5 bucks to use the inflight WIFI to make sure the funeral director had gotten all the info for her obit. I'm just exhausted from lack of sleep and being emotionally drained and whatnot. Right now I'm still in the air (literally) and it looks like I'm somewhere over the Midwest or Texas maybe?
My day started at 2:45 am this morning when I had to hop a shuttle to the airport... I've already changed planes once and am headed in to Tampa airport to pick up Kiyah. I'm super worried that she's really stressed out. I've heard she's really stressed out and am wondering how we will get thru the stress of security at the airport and the flight in general. I made sure that the airline documented that I will be traveling with a service animal between Florida and Pa.... then I have to wait 2 hours for skibum to get in to the airport. I'm going to pick up the rental and wait for him with Kiyah in the car... then we have a 3 or 4 hour drive and hopefully will be able to drop our stuff off at the hotel while I go to the funeral home to finalize the arrangements. I also have to stop at the mall first and pick up something for her to wear. It's all just a lot. Somehow I don't see how I'm going to fit sleep into this equation. Drama has already somewhat started... I've heard  rumor's about how everything happened and none are true. I've heard other crazy rumor's about other family member and why they are or aren't coming. My bills are piling up in gigantic fashion and that's got me worried to. When you end up dropping 2K on one way plane tickets and motel rooms and the funeral bill isn't even tallied yet it makes me more than nervous. Hopefully I'll be able to pay off my CC's sometime I guess :sadwalk:

Thanks for listening to me complain... this is just all so overwhelming.

Oh Hidn I am so sorry.

We went through some of the same when my Grandma passed. No one in our family got any sleep for a week, plus I live an hour away so I was making sometimes multiple daily trips out to help my parents. I think I was out of work for 3 weeks. :omg: And then the fighting at the funeral. It was just bad.

After it is all over, take a break- even if it is just a 2 hour bath or a walk/drive, you know just something to take your mind off of things. It will be hard and things will get better. Also, on the CC- it can take a backseat for now.

I take it that it was a sudden unexpected thing. I remember that with my dad...a sudden, massive and unexpected heart attack. It was just a blur, and unbelievable. Like waking up every day to remember the nightmare that happened. I don't even know if I ate anything the first two days, and the funeral was a mass of tears and sadness.

I really hope that you can have someone to help support you, and that family are going to be sensitive and caring for you. Ultimately this is the time when you need their love and support. This is incredibly overwhelming. Please vent away, and if you need to talk we're there for you.

Dear A$$ Gentleman standing behind me at Publix tonight!
I did not ask you to get behind me....I warned you had coupons and it might be a bit
but really....
You have no right to talk to me about getting a job instead of using coupons....
I work probably about 60 hours a week, as a matter of fact you just caught me coming home from being gone for 2 days.....
I was pretty thankful at the point I have work....cause if I was like one of countless of my friends acquiantances that have been out of work 15 months+ That comment would have been pretty below the belt!
How'dya feel with the manager standing there, thanking me for remaining quiet and not instigating more, "like others have"
Did ya feel like an idiot when the manager explained to you, that although you might not like coupons, Publix loves them, for many reasons....mainly for bringing them in more revenue.
What did you think, when you retorted that Publix can't like coupons....when 3 months ago they were constantly in the news regarding their hate for coupon users....and the manager kindly replied, Publix doesn't hate coupon users, they like them a lot, but they just changed the policy to be fair to all.
Oh yea and how did you like my cartful for $1.07 and the cashier saying and you saved over $100.00
She really lied I only saved $80.00, but I think she found you to be miserable as I did!
Oh yes, and you owe me a BIG thank you...you have no idea how badly my alter ego wanted to run you down in the parking lot....
Sincerly,
An Employed Coupon User!

I have to really bite my tongue on the "just get a job" comments I get. Yeah, I realize I'm shopping in the middle of the day- that doesn't mean I'm not employed! And why do people care so much? What's it to them?

Is anyone using SavingStar? Is Publix an available store in your area? I put in about 7 different zip codes and Publix does not come up at all. The FAQ says if your store has a uPromise keytag, instead of a loyalty card, you can enter your uPromise # - but I can't do that if Publix does not come up.

How on earth can they have Sweetbay & WD but not have Publix??

Do you know how to "deactivate" a coupon? I activated the Gorton's one before I noticed Publix isn't listed. I want to activate on uPromise instead, but of course it's not listed since I activated on SavingStar.

I use SavingStar and cannot add my Publix UPromise card either. I definitely prefer SS because the deposits are so fast in comparison...

It really must be something in the stars these days!! My husband (on his way to work :) ) just had the same experience at Publix - 3 senior citizens behind him ganged up on him and told him that "OF COURSE the $5 off $30 is after coupons" and that it was "only $5, so what's the big deal?" He asked them if they were going to pay his bill, told them that he valued his money quite a bit and waved at them when his total was under $10 for 9 various cereals, 2 Nescafe coffees, grapes, and 2 butters, with savings of over $60. Thank goodness the ASM knows he's an up and up couponer and backed him up over the questions of the cashier and the Customer Service lady.

Soooo glad it's Friday.

I was just looking at my WD $5/$30 from the Enjoy the City books and I am a tad confused.

On the back they say: "This offer is not valid with any other discounts, coupons, specials, or on holidays."

Now Publix has been taking them with no issue on BOGO sales and everything else. I plan on trying to use one at WD today because I am going to be near there and need some meats. Do you think I will have an issue? Or even an issue at a different Publix? I never bothered to read the back of the darn things until now. :(
