6/12/11 9:40pm PST - It allowed me to cancel and re-up, however few hours later I log in and this is the message I get "Important Message
Your membership has been cancelled." Also 2-day shipping doesn't show up on the right and I don't have the "prime" logo anymore.

If you CALL Amazon to CANCEL, YOU CANNOT RE-SIGN UP using the same e-mail.

For Alumni emails simply capitalize your email so that "alum" is not included: name@alum.school.edu => name@Alum.school.edu

australia emails don't work

Bolivia emails dont work

Don't try to click on the confirmation link using a Blackberry device. You will get a message from Amazon saying the confirmation link was not valid if click on the link through your Blackberry

To all those getting an error when trying to re-subscribe, make sure you use Internet Explorer, it seems theres an issue with non-IE browsers.

I used google chrome as I don't have IE installed Firefox worked great for canceling and renewing Amazon student.

FYI - I have an Amazon Prime account through my daughter who is a college student. She cancelled her account then signed up again. It automatically extended my Prime account until 2/28/2012 also :)

you will not received the e-mail confirmation until your previous entered personal information matching with your current entered personal information. It happend to me just now. I hope this would help.

Gonzo380 - Anyone that was previously an Amazon Student Prime member that cancelled but could not re-register for it, try finding your original email when you first signed up for it in your .edu account and click on the verification link. Worked for me.

In a follow-up to Gonzo380's suggestion, I didn't even wait for Amazon to send a new confirmation link. After submitting my .edu email address, I immediately used the confirmation link from the time I signed up previously. Worked perfectly. - Gizmotoy

If you accidentally cancelled and could not re-register for it and you do not have your original confirmation email. You can submit a request directly to amazon and they will re-enable your prime account starting from today for an additional year! - dsp9753

If you're using rockmelt and use autofill to fill in your e-mail address and state, don't use autofill - put in your e-mail address and state manually. Otherwise the list of schools doesn't pop up and an error occurs. -adidabiking

*If you use the alumni.school.edu and don't receive the email instantly, just click on the link requesting another copy and it will be sent over "IMMEDIATELY", then click on link and you are gooood - llfe

I had to cancel old student membership and sign up for a NEW account using different caps on the .edu e-mail address... if you only cancel your student membership and reapply without signing up for a NEW Amazon account your PRIME membership does NOT renew, only student membership does. Your Amazon Prime Membership Membership dates: March 5, 2011 - March 5, 2012

(Gigahertz21) - I can confirm the above, if you cancel your current membership and try to extend Amazon student prime for another year using the SAME Amazon account, it will not work. The only way to try and get another free year of Amazon prime on the SAME Amazon account is to talk to a CS Rep. using the right language and they might do it. Go to page 116 of this thread and read the replies for some info on how to do it. If you don't want to bother talking/lying to a CS Rep. then just create a new Amazon account and then it's trouble free.

do not try this if u have one of "those" email ids. i happened to have a real edu address as a backup so everythin was fine. looks like now they have a database of states-schools etc. so any random edu email ids wont work!!

I have to admit, I was very hesitant about cancelling my membership to renew it, but it worked. All done in less than 30 seconds.

I also just transferred to another university, so when my first one expires one year from NOW, I'll have another year after that. Woot!

Also, if you have multiple accounts that are not under prime. Use the Student Prime link and sign in under the account that is currently not under prime with your .edu address. Confirm it with your .edu account and you now have another prime account. Not that you need two accounts but its good to have another back up prime account.

This is the same .edu address that I just canceled.
I got the cancellation email, but not the verification one. Just great.

Contact the admin at your school that you are a legitimate student at. They will hook you right up.

Had a minor panic attack, as there was a delay for the confirmation email (my daughter's college account). Its all good now.

I have a edu email but I cant sing into it anymore. Am I out of luck?

FYI, I got away using my .alumni.edu address back in August. As I tried to re-enroll, it will not allow ".alumni." in the email address.

Almost didn't work! I canceled then never received the confirmation email and started sweating (yes, i checked the spam box). Had to resend, then everything was A-OK!

To be sure, I retrieved my old edu userid and password and verified before I canceled the existing membership. Now the membership is extended until next year.

For one of my accounts, it was sent to the .edu that I had just entered. For my family member's account, it was sent to the main e-mail address associated with the reguar Amazon account, so make sure to check both, just in case.
