6/12/11 9:40pm PST - It allowed me to cancel and re-up, however few hours later I log in and this is the message I get "Important Message
Your membership has been cancelled." Also 2-day shipping doesn't show up on the right and I don't have the "prime" logo anymore.

Worked for me on 5/27/11

If you CALL Amazon to CANCEL, YOU CANNOT RE-SIGN UP using the same e-mail.

For Alumni emails simply capitalize your email so that "alum" is not included: name@alum.school.edu => name@Alum.school.edu

australia emails don't work

Bolivia emails dont work

Don't try to click on the confirmation link using a Blackberry device. You will get a message from Amazon saying the confirmation link was not valid if click on the link through your Blackberry

To all those getting an error when trying to re-subscribe, make sure you use Internet Explorer, it seems theres an issue with non-IE browsers.

I used google chrome as I don't have IE installed
Firefox worked great for canceling and renewing Amazon student.

FYI - I have an Amazon Prime account through my daughter who is a college student. She cancelled her account then signed up again. It automatically extended my Prime account until 2/28/2012 also :)

you will not received the e-mail confirmation until your previous entered personal information matching with your current entered personal information. It happend to me just now. I hope this would help.

Gonzo380 - Anyone that was previously an Amazon Student Prime member that cancelled but could not re-register for it, try finding your original email when you first signed up for it in your .edu account and click on the verification link. Worked for me.

In a follow-up to Gonzo380's suggestion, I didn't even wait for Amazon to send a new confirmation link. After submitting my .edu email address, I immediately used the confirmation link from the time I signed up previously. Worked perfectly. - Gizmotoy

If you accidentally cancelled and could not re-register for it and you do not have your original confirmation email. You can submit a request directly to amazon and they will re-enable your prime account starting from today for an additional year! - dsp9753

If you're using rockmelt and use autofill to fill in your e-mail address and state, don't use autofill - put in your e-mail address and state manually. Otherwise the list of schools doesn't pop up and an error occurs. -adidabiking

*If you use the alumni.school.edu and don't receive the email instantly, just click on the link requesting another copy and it will be sent over "IMMEDIATELY", then click on link and you are gooood - llfe

-- Works fine in Chrome, browsers aren't the issue anymore. Canceled membership, logged into australia.edu, used old email link, signed me back up right away. 2012 exp.

3/4/2011 UPDATE: I have a different *.edu account & successfully signed up very early this morning (3/4/2011). LINKY [amazon.com]

I had to cancel old student membership and sign up for a NEW account using different caps on the .edu e-mail address... if you only cancel your student membership and reapply without signing up for a NEW Amazon account your PRIME membership does NOT renew, only student membership does. Your Amazon Prime Membership Membership dates: March 5, 2011 - March 5, 2012

(Gigahertz21) - I can confirm the above, if you cancel your current membership and try to extend Amazon student prime for another year using the SAME Amazon account, it will not work. The only way to try and get another free year of Amazon prime on the SAME Amazon account is to talk to a CS Rep. using the right language and they might do it. Go to page 116 of this thread and read the replies for some info on how to do it. If you don't want to bother talking/lying to a CS Rep. then just create a new Amazon account and then it's trouble free.

6/12/11: also confirm still working (same .edu/same account) - jeremym
7/4/11: worked for me to sign up new. yay for lifetime email forwarding from my undergrad and grad school.

Simply go here: Linky [amazon.com]

Click and confirm cancellation of membership.

Then go here: Linky [amazon.com]

Confirm your e-mail address. And you now have membership until Feb 2012.

do not try this if u have one of "those" email ids. i happened to have a real edu address as a backup so everythin was fine. looks like now they have a database of states-schools etc. so any random edu email ids wont work!!

I was never able to add family (late adopter). I doubt you can.

gedster314 02-28-2011 11:09 AM

Thanks, worked for me! I'm really enjoying this service. Amazon is now the first place I look for when I purchase stuff. If Amazon's free streaming for prime gets to the size of Netflix, I may just become a full fledged Prime member.

rsveteran 02-28-2011 11:16 AM

SullyV 02-28-2011 11:17 AM

I have to admit, I was very hesitant about cancelling my membership to renew it, but it worked. All done in less than 30 seconds.

I also just transferred to another university, so when my first one expires one year from NOW, I'll have another year after that. Woot!

Discombobulated 02-28-2011 11:17 AM

Also, if you have multiple accounts that are not under prime. Use the Student Prime link and sign in under the account that is currently not under prime with your .edu address. Confirm it with your .edu account and you now have another prime account. Not that you need two accounts but its good to have another back up prime account.

shoangore 02-28-2011 11:22 AM

Awesome. Another confirmed workings.
Got prime up until Feb 28 2012!

Wondering if I should have waited until the very end of my last one before I did this, but can't take the risk of it disappearing in the future. Besides, 7+ months is good enough for me for now

FYI, I got away using my .alumni.edu address back in August. As I tried to re-enroll, it will not allow ".alumni." in the email address.

Sagi 02-28-2011 11:23 AM

Worked for me as well.. great ! thanks op!~

I got the cancellation email, but not the verification one. Just great.

Recheck what you entered. If there's a space in the beginning or the end of the e-mail address, it may give you that message.

Hope that helps,
Victor

select another state, and change it back to your state so you that can select the school list.
or just use another browser

it didn't for a couple people. the problems is others will just panic and TD and TC without troubleshooting or trying another browser.

trippinbilly 02-28-2011 11:25 AM

Minor panic attack, as there was a delay before I got the confirmation email. (my daughter's college account). All is good now though.

Ton_of_Clay 02-28-2011 11:26 AM

thanks. got it =]

skidude2121 02-28-2011 11:26 AM

I am breathing a huge sigh of relief right now. Took at LEAST 5 minutes and submitted info twice and requested email to be resent (which might have done the trick cause I received the email right after that.)

truncj 02-28-2011 11:26 AM

Signed up with chrome. Worked great. Thanks OP

awer25 02-28-2011 11:26 AM

Almost didn't work! I canceled then never received the confirmation email and started sweating (yes, i checked the spam box). Had to resend, then everything was A-OK!

Phew, I did re-enter it by hand rather than copied and pasted, it worked.
Repped.

So scary but it worked for me! Mine was set to be done in July but now it's extended to next year. Props to the OP that took the first gamble!

Very risky if they decide to void everyone with extensions till 2/28/2012.
Was this work around mentioned by amazon?

I'm sure they will extend the student prime program.

GenerationSlick 02-28-2011 11:28 AM

Is there a contact number for Amazon Student Prime? I tried mulitple times to register my account with my .edu email and I never receive one. Thanks in advance.

uupadhya 02-28-2011 11:28 AM

To be sure, I retrieved my old edu userid and password and verified before I canceled the existing membership. Now the membership is extended until next year.

i canceled but have YET to receive the email to renew :(

karrun 02-28-2011 11:31 AM

I'm pretty sure it extends your "invitees" Prime expiration dates as well. When I logged onto my "invitee" account, said:
Membership dates: July 12, 2010 - February 28, 2012

I'm sure they will extend the student prime program.

i don't think so, i think it's just a way to give a specific demographic a taste and then get them to pay later.

it was either this or giving out a limited amount of beta codes for free "tastes."

Redfeet 02-28-2011 11:32 AM

btw how come this deals is not on FP?

For one of my accounts, it was sent to the .edu that I had just entered. For my family member's account, it was sent to the main e-mail address associated with the reguar Amazon account, so make sure to check both, just in case.

Awesome signature. Animals are amazing and I appreciate the links you're sharing =) I've given you reputation points.

Hope this helps,

Ir0nAlex 02-28-2011 11:33 AM

Anybody else get this message with their cancellation?
"Since you only used your Amazon Prime benefits on a few items, you will receive a
prorated refund of $59.25 for the remaining months of your membership. Your refund
should be processed within the next 2-3 business days and will appear as a credit on
your next credit card billing statement. If your latest membership charge is still
processing, we'll issue the refund as soon as the charge is completed."

I had prime originally free under student promotion, no clue why they are saying I will receive a refund...

vkgt 02-28-2011 11:34 AM

It works.... I was pretty afraid myself but this came at a great time for me since my membership was going to be up in a couple of months.

Thanks for the info! As long as you can access your .edu address to confirm, you're good to go!

Switching2Geico 02-28-2011 11:34 AM

nice job OP. it works. Guys dont be nervous about doing it. worse case you can email amazon and tell them your kid accidentally canceled your membership if they can re-instate it. No biggie if it doesnt work. Anyways, it DOES work so dont have any fear.

cma3585 02-28-2011 11:34 AM
