I have this keyboard and I love it! These are chiclet style scissor keys. Feels like typing on a laptop. This is a good deal! Got mine several weeks back from BestBuy for $60.

z9z91 04-05-2011 11:43 PM

Solar kb? You have to use it outside when the sun is shining? LOL

IamPro 04-05-2011 11:46 PM

Wat if u don't go out of your dark room?

I thought this was kind of hilarious when I first read the product description. It's actually a pretty neat idea for a wireless keyboard though, and I must say it's rather stylish looking. I don't see the point of a wireless keyboard in most cases, but this could be great for a media center or other computer in a visible location, where you'd like to keep cords to a minimum.

theomms 04-06-2011 02:10 AM

Thanks OP!

I needed a keyboard and now I got one! Perfect timing.

...as a bonus I am gonna save a huge stack of nickels on batteries by harnessing the power of the sun.

Trikat 04-06-2011 04:18 AM

Used to be $60. Now it is $68 - rebate. :/

RichieRich 04-06-2011 07:49 AM

this thread is funny.. but looks like a great product. Only 4 reviews but I wish I didn't have so many keyboards already!

Thanks for the thread OP

It's either this or the wireless illuminated keyboard, I can't decide. I don't know if I can go without a light up kb, but the wireless illum doesn't look nearly as nice as my wired one when I saw it in the store.
Hmmmm, decisions.

dragonfly7358 04-06-2011 07:58 AM

Maybe it is just me, but most people that spend a lot of time using computers don't see the sun that often.

Nothing in your post implied sarcasm. If you can't adequately express sarcasm through writing, don't try to use it.

On topic, this seems like a very good deal for a living room HTPC, without having to worry about replacing batteries. Anyone have any experience with the range on this thing?

I have the wired and with my G9X mouse and Asus LED monitor, it looks great. I love it so much. They had a nice deal on it recently which is how I got it.

Good thing this thing works from any light, including the unearthly glow of LCD panels!

Maybe it's just me, but "any light source keeps your keyboard charged for at least three months in total darkness" means you're good to go as long as you're paying your electric bill. :)

I agree, I love the wired illuminated, that's what I have. My problem is I want wireless, and it looks like the uglified the wireless one.
With this one, no illuminated, but no batteries is nice. :)

I have rechargeable batteries so I am set there. I mean I don't mind the wired because I have two seperate machines. One connected to my 32in HDTV (HTPC) and one connected to my 23in LED Monitor (Gaming Machine). The gaming rig has the wired stuff obviously.

Nah, I don't think the solar panels will be that useful. Just a gimmick if you ask me. Replacing a battery even every three to six months is not that bad anyway for regular wireless keyboards.

I would rather go with the illuminated wired keyboard with this money. Or just a regular wireless, or bluetooth keyboard if it's for a laptop with built in bluetooth. I've been using microsoft BT keyboard 6000 (which was $2 after rebate couple months ago) for my laptop. I absolutely love it.

You don't need the sun. It charges under ambient light.

I've had this keyboard for a month. Battery's still at 100% because I'm always charging it. =)

Except for the environment.

Looks pretty sweet. Unfortunately I doubt it would work with my G5.

ZixacunX 04-06-2011 09:04 AM

you dont need sunlight to charge them.... any light will do... even monitor light....

cpgeekmh 04-06-2011 09:06 AM

It is only a gimmick if you never tried it. Great reviews on Logitech's website also. I got in on the same $60 deal from BB and it is the best keyboard I have ever used. Like the guy above, I also haven't been below 95%, but there is a window in my office. Like it was mentioned b4, it charges off any light source.

Since when has typing on a laptop keyboard been a good thing? Son, you need to try a good o' fashion IBM keyboard from the golden age of keyboards.

Yeorwned 04-06-2011 11:47 AM

Dumbest idea ever, considering half the people to use a keyboard don't see daylight.

Well, there you go... put the solar wireless keyboard on the handlebars, and it will actually be charging in the sun :bounce:

I wonder if I'd get ticketed for operating a vehicle while "texting"?

matheus 04-06-2011 03:53 PM

Awesome keyboard! =)

Does someone know whether this keyboard will be fast enough for gaming? Thanks!

AngryWife 04-07-2011 10:35 PM

will it charge if i just put it in the sunbeam through the window? I don't go outside. ever.

Yes, that will be enough. Even an office lamp light will do.

SDChaserOC 04-07-2011 11:56 PM

Love the idea .. Pure genius

fukops 04-08-2011 12:11 AM

Where is that "Solar Powered" mouse to complete the set ..

loloban 04-08-2011 12:24 AM

too bad, most of the time i keep my keyboard on top of the "keyboard slot" underneath the desk, which i hardly ever slide it out, so it pretty much stays in the dark, since i don't look at the keyboard to type, n i don't like to put the keyboard on the desk
so i don't think my keyboard is going to catch enough light to charge it...
hahaha
good for others though
love the idea, just not going to work for me...

compusascam 04-08-2011 12:43 AM

it is wireless yo just pull it out once in a while.... wait a min that sounds naughty :P

rickrude69 04-08-2011 01:00 AM

Very nice find. Mine has been acting up, and this will save money in the long run w/ no batteries.

upsolar 04-08-2011 01:10 AM

It is UNBELIEVABLE that so many ppl post to bash it just because they "think" this keyboard only works in the sun.

Couldn't ppl just click the product link and spend one minute in reading it?

Lurker247 04-08-2011 01:33 AM

To the ppl worried about never seeing the sun, living in darkness, etc... have u never used a solar-powered calculator either? Those things need very minimal light (any light) to operate. Same concept with this keyboard.

This keyboard is way cool. It's on my wishlist. I'm still holding out for a better deal since I already have a working keyboard. I'm confident that there will be a better deal for this since the AR price is alright.

EDIT: This keyboard is currently on sale at Staples [staples.com] for $59.99. Let's all ask Amazon to price match it and if they do it, than this'll be a slicker deal. :)

besthijacker 04-08-2011 05:33 PM

I just got this keyboard and its pretty awesome! It already came charged at 100% so I should be good for many days to come!

It's quite smaller than my Saitek Cyborg keyboard so it is quite hard to used to to keys but I like it already. There are also Media keys to change song/volume/calculator/shut down PC

Just like others pointed out..this keyboard charges of any light that means monitor/lights in the room/sun

btw rebate only applies to amazon.com..regardless this is very good price for a keyboard
I paid 80$ for Saitek Cyborg but I prefer this one already!

I would even probably buy it at full price ;]

vxd 04-09-2011 06:44 PM

I second this guy's opinion and his signature. :)

BrokenR1 04-09-2011 07:53 PM

Concerning the environment, this thing still has a battery which is how it holds the charge. I guess a capacitor could be made to work but doubt they would bother using a quick discharge type part like that?

I do like the idea of solar panels however saying up front I have not heavily researched the lately I would like to point out that just because you're using energy from the sun does not mean your saving the environment/world/private ryan. You need to take into account the total waste and energy that goes into producing, maintaining, and disoposing of each product you compare which I very rarely ever see anyone do. That's also why I hate them stupid hybrids. If we made cars that got 60+ miles a gallon on a straight fossil fuel burning engine before why do we need to through in a battery type setup to achieve that again? Costs of producing those battery packs, replacing them, equipment to maintain them, dispose of them, etc add up. I do not know for sure what the overall best/worst setups are but then again neither does treehugging electro hybrid driving frappe sipping fad hoppers.

Oh yeah, I like backlit keyboards now.
