But I think the credit is for anything at amazon.com.

In this case, Kindle owners only as it will check your account status. It's a flag of sorts, probably.

I'm keeping the humidifier purchases for later in the year when I realize I need to use up funds on my healthcare FSA (Flexible Spending Account)!

I think this toddler chair [amazon.com] or this bigger toddler chair [amazon.com] for $25 after KSO, with a filler (kid spoons!) are good options for the Baby store KSO, even though the prices for them has otherwise been very stable.

Those Plinko's seem so over priced for frameless foam rubber covered cloth. Based on the reviews I thought they were something special, but when I saw one in RL I was like "you have got to be kidding"

At $25 the price would be more realistic

Thanks for the suggestion!

I hate how people just keep hounding and hounding reps until they get them to give them something they shouldn't (applied to an item not eligible, trying to use an already used code, trying to get an already expired offer). It's just going to ruin it for everyone eventually.

actually he saw the offer in my account and the camera in my cart and offered.. i did not hound anyone, nor did i contact them about it. I had needed them to send a new power cord.

I should ad i think that they are trying to push the offers as he also asked if he could help me place the orders for the 2 other offers in my account "school supplies" and "beauty". I told him i was holding out for a perfume to go back in stock (true) and he said to just contact him when it does and he would place the order?? so im not sure if people are having trouble with all the code redemptions or if maybe its because of the laptop claimers.. but something is going on or i just got the one really nice guy??

edit: for those pm'ing me wanting my code................NO. It was applied to my account already anyways!

The laptop code has surely done that already. I would be very shocked otherwise.

Quick question for the laptop code. Once I redeem it once in my account, it is linked to my account regardless of whether I buy today or next week correct?

trikster2 08-11-2011 12:14 PM

We just had a heck of a time getting the baby code to work.

Went through the link in the email to make sure the stuff was eligible and made sure the seller was amazon but the code would not take no matter what we did.

Chatted with one rep, he said it's fixed.

Still did not work

Chatted with another rep, who said it's now fixed

Still did not work

So the rep took $25 off the order.

First time we have had problems with a KSO. Hopefully this is not a sign of things to come....

In other news if you have a printer coupon there's a good price on Canon Pixma MX882 right now. It's fluctuating between $105 and $109 this morning:

http://slickdeals.net/forums/show...?t=3194888

Not a bad printer for $65, especially since it comes with a $25 MP3 credit...

I probably will be hated for this but I hope amazon cracks down on all this code selling and such. I am afraid some of these people trying to use 5 and 6 codes are going to ruin future deals for the rest of us.

Code trading I don't mind, code selling isn't too bad but people who are buying Kindles en masse from Target, Best Buy and Staples with the sole purpose of getting the codes and returning the Kindles bothers me a lot. If for that reason alone, I hope they start tying codes to accounts. Greedy assholes ruin it for the rest of us.

Hope you didn't think I meant you personally. I was referring to a few posts I saw in another thread where ppl had bought via ebay 5-6 laptop codes and are now pissed that they can't exploit amazon and get high end macbooks and sell for profit. Your line about the crap with laptops triggered me :)

When I found that I had the $10 promotional offer from Visa, I bought a Kindle book I had wanted for $9.99. My Amazon $10 gift card/certificate balance was unchanged and the Visa promotional balance dropped to $0.01.

So, if you purchase something in the media categories listed, it will use your promotional balance first. If you purchase something that is not media, say a clothing item, it will use the gift card/certificate first.

It doesn't matter what you purchase media or not, the promotional credit gets used first before gift card balances, I was buying a toy and the promo got used first. I love love love amazon but this is one issue I wish they would fix.

nope i didnt take it personally, I kinda wish that they would make the offers at least need a registered kindle on the account to use... I think because of the stink with the laptops, the reps have been told to honor the codes but still arent checking the account to see if their is a kindle in there. I guess i shouldnt complain because i did get some benifit from it with my camera, but i really think it was because i didnt berate the people i had to talk to, to get a new power cord. The fact that they brought up the code being in there makes me think they were a bit appreciative that i wasnt calling about the laptop:). I do think amazon needs a bit more structure in CS since i had to go thru 4 people to get someone who could "authorize" a new power cord being shipped to replace one that was doa.

darkmeridian 08-11-2011 03:19 PM

I don't mind the coupon selling, but the associated returns of the Kindles is just unfair to Amazon and all the vendors. You just have to have the decency to keep the KSO and not burden everyone else (in the form of increased prices) for your own personal gain. Otherwise, Amazon will probably link the coupons to accounts (which ruins it for everyone) or just start providing less enticing coupons (which would be bad).

damsel. 08-11-2011 03:35 PM

The thing that pisses me off is that all the people who jumped on them to get the laptop code are pissed off that the terms changed, even though Amazon is within their right to do so. The whole "customer is always right" bull shit is actually the "customer who bitches the most, chatting with 8 different representatives is getting what he wants." It's frustrating to me that people are taking advantage of this. Someone in the thread said they were able to get 6 codes applied today.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised at this point if we see codes that pertain to the Kindle (covers, lights, books, etc.) and coupons like $15 off a $30 purchase, etc., while the codes that are sought after become few and far between. It angers me that people take advantage of Amazon like this and then even turn around and call them Scamazon. The farking nerve of people.

They are. The current ones arrived Tuesday morning. The next ones should be Saturday.

Of course I've seen some disappear after three days and "The Help" was added on a fourth day. The ads could stay as long as whoever is paying for them wants them to. But typically they are every four days.

I think Amazon is OK with people trading codes, etc, but a code like 20% off laptop that works on Apple products had disaster written all over it. Nobody was going to go out and buy a KSO to get $10 off a case or toy purchase. They opened themselves to abuse and slew of buy/getcode/return transactions of KSOs. Not only they are losing from the promotion, but also from the returned KSOs. This particular promotion tempted me to get a KSO, and I already used two more codes (i.e., Kindle light code and Toy code) so far and will continue to do so in the future. In the mean time, I switched from reading on my tablet to KSO and finished 2 books already.

The "smart" thing would have been to make an exception for the 20% laptop code and tie it to each account. It could have been even applied to the account directly, without issuing any code, and if you had a qualifying purchase in your cart, then the discount would have kicked in...

The current method of using this code after they updated the list doesn't even involve using this code, because the CSRs can't apply a code on an ineligible laptop; so, they are manually reducing the price of the computers to reflect the same discount, leaving the code "unused". This will allow these people to purchase another laptop from the new list and flip that as well.

Again, I'm not endorsing the abuse that's taken place using this code, but Amazon should have seen this beforehand. Let's hope that they won't restrict every single "small" code to an account and take appropriate measures for the big codes only in the future.

Well, if it was a glitch like they said it was, they never intended for it to happen the way it did. Either way, people should stop acting so entitled. It's no different than a price mistake being corrected. In fact, people who got their orders in should be happy that Amazon didn't cancel their orders or that Amazon didn't make it a bigger point to ensure that codes were used only by current owners.

Hindsight is 20/20 and we can all agree that Amazon could have handled this better from the beginning. I just don't like people taking advantage of Amazon when it could very well possible ruin it for legitimate Kindle Special Offers owners. That is what makes me angry.

I don't think this was as simple as a price mistake, because the first list that included all the Mac computers was up for a long time, whereas Amazon catches their price mistakes in minutes by the spike in ordering for a particular item. Even some of the computers went out of stock and came back in stock the next day and allowed people to use the code.

Regardless of whether the first list was a mistake or not, they let this go on too long and allowed scumbags to buy and return multiple KSOs.

Let's hope that this doesn't damage the program too much limiting future offers to less tantalizing deals.

zamboni 08-11-2011 04:49 PM

I said it was like a price mistake. Amazon said themselves it was a programming glitch and it was never meant to be used on all laptops. I admit that I do find it weird that they took so long to fix the aforementioned "glitch," but they didn't even have to give an explanation since they can change the terms whenever they want. The terms also say while supplies last, so they could also say that they had a certain limit for the MacBooks and reached that limit.

Well, also, now people are threatening to return their Kindle due to the "horrid experience from Scamazon." Talk about being a dramatic little brat. That thread in deal talk makes me nauseous.

imjosh 08-11-2011 11:09 PM

I'm not sure if this is common knowledge yet but there is a way that you can determine if a KSO has been redeemed without tying it to your account. Just add 1 item to your cart that the KSO will not work on (do not add any items the KSO will work on), and attempt to input the code.

If you get the message
The promotional code you entered cannot be applied to your purchase.
Then you know the code is still unused.

Otherwise, you will get the message
The promotional code you entered has already been redeemed.
Meaning that the code has been used.

For example, add something like a pencil to your cart, and attempt to use the laptop code you have/purchased off ebay/sold and had to refund, and find out if the code has been redeemed without locking it to you account!

Samwise Gamgee 08-11-2011 11:44 PM

I have a Kindle 3G with SO. What's the point of this thread? If you have the Kindle with SO, you'll know about the deals. If you don't, you can't get in on it anyways, unless you can get it from someone.

imjosh 08-11-2011 11:47 PM

It is for talking about the KSOs, and talking about cool items to buy using each code, discussing past and upcoming KSOs, etc.

By your logic, why have any thread for anything? We all have the internet so we should be able to find all the deals everyone posts on our own.

dragonkid 08-12-2011 12:09 AM

Thanks, I bought Kindle Special Offers hoping for another round 20% off HDTVs. My freaking cousin just stole the TV from me so I need another one. :(

starling321 08-12-2011 08:06 AM

For me, I bought a KSO, because my mom's cat had destroyed hers. All these fun codes are just gravy for a device that almost essential for me. I read -- A LOT. I go through as much as 4 to 15 books a month.

I haven't needed to use a single one of the big codes and it has been really nice to trade them with folks who do want them for their smaller codes. I have gotten a lot of use out of the toy code. I have kids, so that just makes sense. I do find it funny that when I offer to trade code for code, some people troll for GC's in exchange for a $10 off code. That just defeats the purpose for me.

So I hope that they don't tie the codes to accounts, because the trading is fun.

I also hope the new version they introduce of the Kindle sometime this last quarter (or so it is rumored) comes out with the SO's. That'll be great!

I don't always check my KSO, but I do check SD everyday so it's nice as a heads up on what deals have been released.

was anyone able to combine the light and accessory code?

if not you can return it and then buy another one with the coupon. just make sure the coupon is applicable to the kindle. do they still have the $30 giftcard promo going?

also,
what happend to the laptop code? I am at the in-laws for the weekend with SLOW satellite internet so was traveling yesterday. what happened with the laptop code? I still have a code to do something with.

I ordered the Toshiba Portege and it shipped late tuesday evening. I still haven't received the promo credit for the free xbox. For the ones that have already gotten the promo for the xbox, how many days after it shipped did it take? Has anyone that had an eligible laptop ship around the same time as me received the promo yet?

You can only select from 40 laptops. People are being assholes and asking chat about it 6-7 times. It's probably going to be the end of good codes.

i also noticed some people are asking $2-3 for the $5 kindle light codes. kind of crazy lol

Some people are getting lucky through chat, but I honestly wish people would stop acting so entitled and trying. Some people are trying upwards of almost 10 times to get it and are still getting shot down. Honestly, that's a real quick way for Amazon to just ban your account for being a nuisance. These people are contacting Amazon saying, "I only bought this Kindle to get the deal on the new Mac laptops." :facepalm2: I really think Amazon is going to start nuking the offers after this. :(

And yeah, wanting a $3 gift card for $5 off is a little greedy. It's best to trade those ones for other codes!

Yes, I was able to on this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/...PDKIKX0DER

I somehow have a $10 special offer in addition to the $15 off from those two coupons, but no gift card balance. Could it be something different? I can get this one for free.

I see now that I have a $10 Kindle promotional balance. Could that be from the Visa offer?

No problem! :)

I'm debating what to do because I don't really need any other Kindle accessories. I have a skin and the lighted cover. But, I don't really want these going to waste either.

Since I can use the $10 on video games, I think I'd rather put it towards that than getting a free light I don't need. I don't really think it will have much resale value, I could maybe make $20 off it.

Oh, what to do.

Doesn't anyone think the kindle lights are way over priced? The cheapest one is $10 after coupon and doesn't even look like it's all that great! I purchased a clip on book light from CVS about a week ago that retails for $2 and it is great! Just something to think about before you drop $10 on a light.

Otherwise, Amazon will probably link the coupons to accounts (which ruins it for everyone) or just start providing less enticing coupons (which would be bad).

If people bought kindles just to sell codes, why not just keep them and wait for another deal to make more free $$? I can't imagine going through that much trouble! I hate returning stuff! And to return multiple kindles at once? Talk about awkward! Some people have no pride, I guess.

Greedy, too. Someone was pissed he couldn't redeem five, yes FIVE, codes to purchase MacBooks to resell. I hardly have any sympathy when you didn't have good intentions in the first place.

I stacked a lighted Kindle cover coupon with the $10 off $20 of Kindle accessories coupon to get a lighted Kindle cover for ~$25 (after tax and coupon costs).

I understand the kindle covers. I was just talking about the stand alone light that people use the $5 coupon on.

Yes definitely. I thought the same thing, but for a specialty item like a Kindle I pretty much expected the accessories to be way overpriced. We've seen it plenty already... a $20 sticker to put on your Kindle?...

johny3 08-12-2011 10:02 AM

if you have an ollie's by you they have clearance reading lights for $2-$4.99. I may try to either get a few more $5 off for kindle lights and see if they can combine them to get an item cheap/free or just go with the ones at ollie's

All it takes is one ebay scammer to suck up all the profits selling laptops. I hate selling high-priced electronics on ebay. I've sold a DSLR camera (used) and some other things and I always hold my breath! Luckily, so far, I've had pretty good luck. But selling a macbook - way too stressful! That's why I decided just to sell the codes - and I put reasonable BIN on mine and they were gone in like 10 minutes.

I was nice and just refunded money to the person who bought mine. This was my first sell on ebay...didn't work out too well for me. Oh well. I love my Kindle and the offers I have been able to use. I wasn't going to use the code anyway. I know the buyer can still use the code if he wants...

Sandivar 08-12-2011 11:56 AM

I don't understand...

Wasn't the previous deal on HDTVs even better than the current laptop deal? Didn't that deal spawn a similar frenzy of buying, using the code, and then returning KSOs? I'm really just asking; I didn't have a KSO until a couple of weeks ago...

Another question, are the laptops from the original list no longer being honored at all, or is a case of YMMV when chatting with the reps? I was thinking of getting a new version Macbook Air (only for my personal use, surprise, surprise), but if I can't use my code on it then I'm not sure I want the code. Plus, I'm not sure it's worth sitting on chat going through rep after rep until I get one that gives me the discount.

If that's the case, I may as well just sell or trade my code.

I don't think nearly as many people knew about the HDTV code, at least while it could still be claimed. Yes, some of the HDTV codes sold for big bucks, but I think that was largely because e-bay wasn't flooded with codes like it was with the laptop deal. I don't remember anyone bragging about buying stacks of SOKindles, claiming the codes, then returning the Kindles on the HDTV deal.. and I definitely saw more than one of those with the laptop deal.

From what I can tell quite a few people were able to get the code honored on the original selection of laptops when the promo first changed, but chances of that happening now are getting slimmer and slimmer.

The laptop selection eligible for the code has definitely changed.

Some people have also reported that with the newest codes (school supplies & lights) they were not able to use multiples of the same code on one account, even when placing individual orders (so not trying to stack codes), and even when they had more than one KSO registered on the account. No personal experience with this one though, at least not yet.

Hopefully the Dells are still on there. Was hoping to order one of those soon (after I find a buyer for my current laptop) and take advantage of the Xbox deal.

I received my lighted Kindle cover this morning ($20 after combining the KSO code with the promotion they applied to my account). Great quality, and the increased size and weight makes it feel perfect with the additional bonus of the hidden light at the corner! I looked at the lights after receiving the KSO code for them, but wasn't impressed with anything they had available.

It was deducted from the first sale you got. It is $0.30 + 3.99%. When you do the return, PayPal refunded 3.99% but not the 30 cents. :lmao:

I sold two codes on ebay. The first I sold as a single and even though we listed as only shipping to the US a buyer from Taiwan with zero feedback bought it. I confirmed that Amazon would not ship the laptops to Taiwan, refunded the money and submitted a cancellation of the sale in ebay with the reason "Buyer requested shipment to a country I don't ship to." I then relisted the item with both codes (and extra restrictions on where buyers can be and how much feedback they have) and sold them both within 5 minutes of listing. Two days later the first buyer declined the request to cancel so I'm out a little more than $5 in ebay fees from that auction. Still after all the fees from both auctions I made over $80.

ALL of the paypal fees were refunded though.

I refunded another type of item around $176 due to out of stock. Since the profit I made is little, I count every cent. 30 cents were missing. I did not bother to call PayPal and ask the reason. I thought it 30 cents were not refundable. :lmao:

For most of the older KSO codes, it looks like you could use more than 1 code (on separate orders). However, it looks like Amazon has started to limit the use of a code to 1 per account now starting with the 2 newest KSO codes (School Supplies & Kindle Lights) that came out a few days ago. We'll see if this will also be the case with the upcoming codes.

Kiev 08-12-2011 09:09 PM

Yeah I know I have more than one kindle on my account and realized it when I tried to use my second school code. I think it will be the case for future codes though.

WildChickenDanc 08-12-2011 09:18 PM

Apologies for the somewhat offtopic question, but do your special offer Kindles have (tiny) gaps along the edges of the screen?

I just got one last week (yes, for the laptop deal), and am debating whether or not to exchange mine. I've noticed that my dog's shed hairs have a nasty habit of getting stuck in these gaps under the bezel since there's still glue residue, and I end up having to tweezer the more obstinate ones out. I can push down on the edge so that there's contact, but it then pops back up after the glue loses adhesion within a few seconds. If this is a universal issue, or at least very widespread, then I probably won't bother with an exchange.

Loving it otherwise - the display is easier on the eyes than an older generation model I used awhile back. Of course that one didn't have this bezel issue, or coupon codes.

Yea, mine does have those tiny gaps along the screen. It also pops right back up if i push down on the edge as you said. It's not really an issue for me though.

$5 mp3 is good
New textbooks sold by Amazon are too high. >_<

Last time I got a free mp3 credit from amazon it expired... seemingly too quick. So just a heads up!

Rep and post that you used would be nice :)

someone used the light code. A suggestion would be that if people want post/rep and non-lurkers to use the code to just say you have one to give away and to pm you. that is what I have done in the past :)

Is anyone having trouble using the textbooks code? I have two textbooks in my cart that add up to about$130 and both are in stock and sold by Amazon but it keeps saying that the promotional code I entered cannot be applied to my purchase.

Hey I got

$5 off mp3 credit
and $25 off Textbooks

If anyone is interested...... maybe looking for a fair GC trade

The title says no trades. There's a thread specifically for Kindle special offer trades. You might want to try there.

April_Lee 08-13-2011 08:58 AM

They were new, but everything is okay, because a couple minutes with Ejaas in chat solved the issue. He had me place the order and took $25 off the price of one of the books.

brianjones 08-13-2011 10:20 AM

Nice, just used my textbook code and made $8.50 with it

Amazon is cheaper than our school bookstore and all our textbooks are new editions. :sadwalk:

Has anyone tried using multiple codes on one account?

Kiev 08-13-2011 10:47 AM

anyone know any textbooks with a high resale value which I can make some credit using the code?

Don't really think there's arbitrage when it comes to textbooks. Even with the discount, there's probably no books that even get close to sale price since they lowball so much.

soccermatt34 08-13-2011 10:54 AM

FYI there doesn't appear to be a limit on the mp3 deal. I have 2 kindles and my gf has 2 registered to her account. Was able to apply all 4 codes to my amazon account

It looks like each code is unique and can be added with no limit. I only have one Kindle but have applied 4 $5 credits to my account. Loving the MP3 credits as I was finally able to get some newer songs that I've been enjoying quite a bit. If anyone is looking for a recommendation - Damned Things - Friday Night is a great, new rock song.

They're generally one per order and it seems of late that Amazon may be making these codes one per account, so you definitely wouldn't be able to stack more than one.

I figured I would use the ones I trade for on my boyfriend's and mom's accounts anyway.

Can you put your own non-DRM MP3s into itunes? That's all they are. They are exactly the same as if you ripped them from the cd yourself.

I have itunes installed. The last time I downloaded from the amazon mp3 store, it automatically imported the mp3 into itunes for me.

When you purchase MP3s from Amazon you are given an option to download them directly as MP3s or to store them in the Amazon MP3 store. If you choose the MP3 store, you can listen to them online. To download them from the MP3 store, you will need to download the Amazon MP3 downloader which will download them for you. On my Mac, it automatically added them into iTunes.
