***chat*** WALGREENS Chat Thread

I think this would be a great outlet to post our concerns, rants, etc.....on our WAGS experiences due to low stock, new ECers, & S&Gers.

For what it's worth I do believe that low stock is more of an issue than S&Gers, but they and new ECers are definitely playing a huge role in the issues that we are all encountering. :(

Thank ya for this, SSG. Maybe it will help everyone to have a place to specifically chat about ongoing things at WAGs and keep it out of the weekly threads. Sad that we have these ongoing issues, but I'm hoping we see a drop-off of the newer ECers soon. Maybe? Please?

I like the idea of this thread. Sometimes I don't like posting unless it is a hot deal (which is rare for me but I LOVE when others have found something!)
The past 2 weeks I have noticed A LOT more couponers. I used to pretty much be the only one. A favorite cashier did polietly mention the new ones could be a bit "persnickedy". The carts of the new people are full of multiples of the same RR deals. I do one deal and then go to another wags (there are several between my house and my way to CVS).

Since this is a chat thread...may I ask if anyone here shops in Virginia Beach? We are taking a trip there June 12-17 and was wondering what type of shopping they have (I only have one grocery store that doubles here and only up to .40 and they are usually higher priced anyway (Schnucks for those of you in the St. Louis metro area)).

Thanks for starting this thread!

yesiamblonde 06-01-2011 05:14 PM

Thanks for starting this thread StitchShopGirl!
I hope a link to it gets added to each Wags Wiki so people know where to go.

OK, but W.A.G.S. is obviously an acronym for something. Let's find it.

Women and Gassy Situations.

Volt1034 06-01-2011 05:24 PM

I'm so sick of not finding stock I'm taking a hiatus from WAGS. On tonights EC one of the ladies is from my city.

ETA: Not tonight but next weeks ep.

educ8athome 06-01-2011 05:25 PM

Thanks for this thread. Maybe the weekly threads will get "nice" again. All of the B*...ing and Moaning is getting on my nerves!

I know right...but it's a handful of posters that are instigating fights.

*grabs snuggie and gets comfy*

I too, am hoping that the new couponers quit soon. Soon they will realize that it's not so simple.

If we S&G everything maybe they will :lmao: j/k....

My grocery bill has gone crazy since June. They dropped $1 doubles here which sent my spending into a complete tailspin. Things I was used to getting for free were now $2. We have enough wiggle room in the budget that it's not a huge deal but I've gotten cheap and I hate paying for things. The upside is that we're eating way healthier because if I'm going to spend $2 I'd rather spend it on fresh food than prepackaged junk. :)

I'm now hearing rumors that any doubling will be stopping here for the most part. I know lots of people don't have doubles at all but in this part of the country it's the way things are.

Does anyone know anything about Authority cat food at PetSmart? It's their brand and they put up a coupon today for 5.00 off a 4lb. bag that's on sale for 5.99. I was thinking of getting some to mix with the regular Purina, since I have so many fur babies. If it has coloring to it, I think I'll pass, although .99 for a 4lb. bag is pretty enticing about now. :) Any reviews would be appreciated.

Yep, it looks like the days of doubles have about come to a halt. :( Oh well, I hardly shopped at the store I think you're referring to anyway. It wasn't worth the hassles at the register and the sales haven't been that great anyway. I'm still in battle with them anyway. :(

I agree, with the rising prices of everything, I can't imagine not couponing! It's crazy how stuff has gone up.

.

Looking at ingrediants:

http://authoritypetnutrition.com/...hicken.php
VS. Purina One:
http://www.purinaone.com/Products...ngredients

Here is a decent pro/con:

http://petfoodtalk.com/catfoodreviews/authority/

From the looks of it it is a higher grocery store type food, on par with Purina One but it does have corn in it also (As most grocery store foods do) though not the first or second ingredient. I would say if you feed your cat Purina One or below brands then this will be just fine, if you feed it a specialty or a no-corn food then stay away. HTH

stitchshopgirl 09-21-2011 03:20 PM

I wish I could feed everyone no-corn, no -wheat food, but I have many mouths to feed!

I always worry about recalls with store brand foods, well all foods actually, but remember that huge recall a few years back? It was over 50% "store brand" foods. I was just thinking of getting some bags and mixing them in with the other food, so no kitty would get too much of it anyway. They're barn kitties. :)

I use a lot of Purina------Purina One, Purina Cat, Purina Kitten. I go through an extreme amount of cat food.

Of course, Wellness, which I believe was Old Mother Hubbard during the recall, looks good and wholesome, but I still have recall nightmares. :( I'm about out of freebie cans, so hopefully they'll put out a new coupon soon. Perhaps companies that were involved in that are more conscience now. I don't purchase anything that wasn't made in the US. A lot of the canned, pouches, trays, etc......are imported.

There was a good long talk in the BS thread during the winter about pet food and someone (PWCPAL) who bred animal, I forget now, said that if your pet was fine on Purina One then you should be fine, but always make sure the first ingrediant is a protein not corn (look at beneful's it's all corn).

You got me interested in this food now, I still have 8 bags of Purina one left, but hey I could always use more cheap food.

petergabrielfan 09-21-2011 03:33 PM

My vet recommends Purina One and my friend's vet does too.

Not to sound like a TLC EC but I have bags of dog food under my bed. The Purina ProPlan stuff comes in thick plastic bags not paper bags so they don't attract insects. PurinaOne & Purina One Beyondis stored in a tight lid plastic tub.

The tricky part is if you have a dog who is a picky eater. It could be the healthiest, most scientifically nutrient balanced dog food but if the doggie turns his nose at it ;)

Just forget to feed them one day. They will wolf it down the next. (taught by my all knowing Mama. No one in our family got to be a picky eater, even the dogs and cats).

kblickster 09-21-2011 04:16 PM

Those of you that have lots of cats -

DH's mother lives about 1 1/2 hours from us. She is in her 80's.

Her next door neighbor took in rescue cats and strays. She actually maintained a whole house for them. (Her mother's home which was behind her home.) Unfortunately she got sick about 4 months ago and last month died of cancer. During her illness, MIL has tried her best to take care of the cats. Since her neighbors death, no one has come forward to help. We do not live near enough to help very often. We have contacted the Humane Society and several rescue organizations and they have yet to come. Only one rescue has even responded and said they do not have the resources to take any more animals.

We have multiple concerns and have tried to reason with MIL. She simply can't continue to take this on alone. With winter coming on we fear that she will fall and she does not have the financial resources to keep feeding them.

Do any of you have any suggestions? She does not live in a large town and we have run out of ideas.

Well, pretty sure if the Humane Society responds they'll be put in a gas chamber. :(

Is there a PetSmart in the area? If so, find out who comes in for their weekend adoption events and see if they can help or maybe they know a non-kill foster/shelter that could help. :( Very sad. :(

I get overwhelmed by the drop-offs, generally pregnant, but I can't imagine them being gassed either. :( I don't have a houseful of them though! I take it there aren't any humans in the house? :omg: It sounds like a lot of kitties. Depending on the number, maybe the PetSmart folks (actually the organization(s) that use their store) can help in some way. Feel free to PM and we can talk about "numbers" and other non-kill options!

Even tho I haven't checked the BS thread in months, that was me. I do rescue work and show Corgis. I personally give my guys Purina Pro Plan, and ask the people who get puppies or rescues from me to keep them on it, but also give them a flier on Purina One. Not everyone is going to go to the pet store and pay more for food, so I want them to make the best choice possible at the grocery store. Most dogs do great on Purina One, and in my experience, Pro Plan gives the absolute best coat for a Corgi.

There is nothing wrong with, in fact, I recommend switching foods every so often. I stay with Pro Plan, but switch the protein source. My guys mainly eat the one with salmon, but I switch to turkey for a few months each year. I just don't think it's good for a dog to only get one protein source their entire lives. So, try the other food, but make sure your dog will eat it before you get a bunch of bags. Purina seems to be tastier than most other foods.

A couple years ago, there was a coupon for a free bag of Pro Plan. Anyone peering in my garage, probably thought I was nuts. We are definitely due some decent Pro Plan coupons.

I would say to start a PayPal account to help with expenses first. Then, maybe send out feelers to regional tv news programs asking if they would like a public interest story.

That's awesome. Most Vets will only recommend the crap they push in their office. The Science Diet and Iams/Eukanuba. Both are full of corn. I think Eukanuba must taste like cardboard. I bought 2 (at separate times) puppies from a Vet in KY, and she only feeds Eukanuba cause Vets get their personal food free from these 2 companies. Neither puppy would eat when they got here. Soon as I started mixing the foods to get their little bodies used to the Pro Plan, they'd pick and eat the Pro Plan and leave every last piece of the Eukanuba.

We haven't had doubling here in many, many years. Publix will accept competitor coupons, which is quite useful for Target Qs but Publix is extremely high priced. They do a lot of BOGO promotions, and the items that are frequently BOGO are priced substantially higher on a regular basis. The right BOGO sale along with a MQ and a PQ, will still make a great deal though. I've just learned to shop the sale items and stock up the items that I use. After awhile you have full closet and don't need to be in a rush to buy something because you ran out.

You can get pretty decent deal regularly on Purina One at Target. I am half sure the gift card deal is still going as well. Buy 3 7lb bags get a $5GC(I am not positive on this). You also have available the $2 Beyond coupon and a $1 Target coupon. We've had several sales around here on the Beyond lately and I am stocked up to the gills with it right now.

Didn't the woman work on any arrangements? I know it hardly matters now, but it's hard to believe someone who really cared for their animals wouldn't have made arrangements; and that doesn't mean your poor MIL. Can you possibly contact a family member for this woman? Who is handling her estate? I would try and find a contact for her estate and see if you can explain the situation. Unfortunately most rescue organizations are over-run with animals all on their own, so finding one ready to jump in and help can be tough.

If the GC deal is still on, I think it was only on the Beyond which is priced around 8.79 a bag I think. There is a 1.00T coupon and a 2.00MQ on the regular Purina One, which I have been doing, but the raccoons, that also enjoy the food ,make Purina Cat Chow more attractive, although the price has been rising steadily. :(

I have about 20 of the 2.00 Beyond coupons I traded for, but haven't found a stellar deal here to use them on yet. I think those are good until 12-31-11, I hope.

What an amazing vet! Would that all pet owners might be as fortunate as you. When my husband was younger he found his cat downstairs lying in a pool of his own feces, panting late at night. His parents phoned the vet and he met them at the office immediately. The vet diagnosed the cat as diabetic, fed him some peanut butter, and kept him at the office several days to regulate his blood sugar. This very kitty, seen in my avatar ;), lives with my husband and me now at the ripe age of 16. The vet didn't charge his family a dime: not even for the after-hours visit or boarding. He has since retired, but the two vets who have taken over his practice are of the same mind. It is an invaluable resource to have. :)

Thanks for all your replies regarding the cats/kittens. We have counted 25. 2 litters apparently born this year. 7 that we know of have been spayed/neutered. They are the original cats this woman owned. We have no knowledge of how her estate will be handled. She owns 2 homes - one of them which was used to house the cats. The power is still on in both homes.

DH is going to see his Mom this weekend. Thanks to stitchshopgirl he will visit the PetSmart and see if they can give him any names or agencies that might be willing to help.

My vet basically said the same thing that you said Tipper - that rescue organizations are overwhelmed with pets.

petergabrielfan 09-21-2011 07:59 PM

Ugh...what's so sad is that this is all preventable if you have your pet spayed or neutered. :(

Kblick, at minumum check into organizations that spay and neuter for free. We have one here called Humane Ohio. They will spay and neuter strays or pets. If you don't have money they don't charge you. That would at least solve the multiplication problem.

Truthfully, in a situation like that it's highly likely some/most of the cats have FLV (feline leukemia) or FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus/similar to AIDS) and wouldn't be adoptable.

We have multiple concerns and have tried to reason with MIL. She simply can't continue to take this on alone. With winter coming on we fear that she will fall and she does not have the financial resources to keep feeding them.

Do any of you have any suggestions? She does not live in a large town and we have run out of ideas.

While rescue groups may not be able to take them, they may be able to help in other ways. I.E. get the word out about these cats. Maybe post photos on their website, etc.

I had a feeling she had cats that were not spayed or neutered, so the problem is only going to escalate. I think it's going to be darn near impossible to find a no kill shelter or rescue org to take in that many. Is there animal control in her town? I think even if she is outside city limits, they will come and take the cats under this circumstance. Of course, that's last resort, but it is cruel to just leave them there to fend for themselves, especially when they are breeding. Very sad.

Here's [petfinder.com] a link to Petfinder. If you search by the zip code your MIL lives in, you will see shelters and rescue organizations in her area.

Does anyone know what stores the Hall's Warm-ups tear pad Q's are being found in? Drug stores? Grocery stores?

TIA! :)

I haven't see them yet. Last year I found them at K-Mart! My Wags decided to limit the bags to 1 per customer then too! :( There were hundreds on an endcap on Saturday evening . They didn't generally limit either. That one still bugs me, a bit. :O I had collected up a bunch of those coupons and they ended up in the recycle bin. Hopefully if I find them this year I'll be able to redeem them. :)

vrmontstr 09-22-2011 12:24 AM

I just need to gripe for a minute. I thought WAGS where I lived before was a little hit & miss, but what little shopping I've done there since we moved, I am not impressed. My closest store is apparently coupon clueless (and there doesn't seem to be a BA when I've been in, so I end up at the front, though I forgot to look today) and they don't even do the military Tuesdays (even though we're in commuting distance from a large Army/USAF joint base.

When I did the Osteo in the first week of the debacle, the cashier checked with the manager, who got the non-ringing BOGO issue taken care of (which I was impressed by) but then she told me I couldn't use 6 MQ's for 6 bottles b/c I was only BUYING 3. She went back and asked, and he told her that yes, I could do that. She came back out muttering that it just wasn't right. She had a look of near disgust when I pulled out the IVC but she shook her head and scanned it.

Today, I tried to buy 4 pints of Ben & Jerry's. I had the WAGS Q and 2 $1/2 IPs. Today's cashier wouldn't take them. She insisted the WQ was a MQ, or a "Walgreen's Manufacturer's Coupon" and said she couldn't use all the Qs. Of course, I went to the front register since I only had the B&J, 2 gallons of distilled water and 2 packs of Nexcare, and as I tried to politely argue with her, a line was forming. I just had her delete the B&J, which meant I couldn't use the 2nd Colgate RR I planned to use, bought my other items and left. I'm pretty sure her argument also included not being able to use a monthly IVC and MQ together either. I may call first and try again tomorrow. Maybe. I might just say sc&*# it and just buy it the next time I go to the Commissary and make my DH go without his Coffee Heath Bar Crunch fix for a while. Truthfully, it would probably be better for both of us to get off the ice cream kick we've been on lately, but he's being pretty resistant to the idea.

stitchshopgirl 09-22-2011 12:31 AM

How in the world can stores be so uninformed? That's ridiculous. Sorry you didn't leave with your B&J ice cream. I think some cashiers just like to be difficult. The highlight of their day was making you leave your ice cream. :( Very sad some folks are like that.

That stinks! Oh, if you do decide to go back sometime for B&J, the coupon is taking up a slot for me, no matter the order in which I have them rung up. So you may run into that issue,

I've told this story before. Someone on another, non-coupon forum was a moron.

We were discussing Special Olympics and whether or not we'd ever volunteered (it's such a cool experience if you have never done it). Anyway, someone came in and made some horrible comment about SO participants. Someone else multi-quoted the troll and a bunch of other people, including me. Of course they changed the quotes around by accident while snipping and it ended up that I was attributed as making the horrible comment. The person never came back to fix their mistake, so I had to mod-alert the post to get it deleted. Most people realized what had happened but I was really mad about it!

I think you have to keep in mind that they aren't your cats. ......and I don't mean that as "so don't worry about it". Legally they belong to her estate, so either her family/lawyer needs to be made aware or you may have no choice but to go to your government agency that handles animal control problems.

If your DH can find an organization willing to help, maybe they will know what is necessary to legally take the cats. I would seriously try to contact the estate or a government agency instead though. It's a ridiculous fine line, that you are dealing with a living creature, but on the other hand they're her "property".

I usually find the good halls manufacturer coupons (tearpads) at the military exhange. My kids usually spot them on a waist high display. Haven't been to a bx in a while but the displays are usually out around this time. I have seen them at my bx and in exchanges a few towns over for years now (on displays this time of year)

I had the bogo's and don't think I ever used one.:( To the recyle bin they went! I pick up 5 or 6 at a time, so I had a healthy stack. I think those came from K- Mart and the other ones I found at Wags & CVS last year. I haven't see any this year yet!

If under 50, you can get an Associate Membership, which gets you some limited benefit. The free tests you get onsite are blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, body composition, BMI, BMD, and waist circumference. You will also get vouchers a free blood glucose test, free total cholesterol and HDL test, and free A1C test. Make sure they put the application for a free membership into the free reusable shopping bag you get.

I am looking for that one AND the $4 Blink tearpad. I've been searching coupon clipping websites for the Blink TP as well. My stores had $4 peelies on the Blink eyedrops, but they disappeared a long time ago.. :sadwalk: and it wasn't me! The peelies were affixed tightly and some boxes are ripped from where a peelie snatcher invaded.. :shake:

I think the hope of 75% off an attractive necessity is driving most people but there are these TQs out

Fieldcrest Luxury Bedding - Pillowcase Set or Sheet Set TQ 20%off exp 10/08/11
Fieldcrest Luxury or Target Home - Down or Down Alternative Comforter TQ 20%off exp 10/08/11
Room Essentials Comforter TQ 20%off exp 10/08/11

I assume you mean homeware as linens or maybe you are asking about the $3 colorful waffle maker so many are looking for. That one I can't figure out -- EGGO are the way for me. :D

There aren't any other Revlon WAG store Qs. Your BA might have some $1/1 MQ Revlon tearpads. There is also an MQ redeemable ONLY at WAGs (tearpad) for $2/1 any Revlon Age Defense -- I saw that this past weekend.

Well, I am advising you to look in your inserts first if you use the no-clip/ whole insert method of organizing your Qs.

I really don't think you will find it but it is worth looking.

That said, MANY posters on the WAGs thread have been using a print out of the PDF at many WAGs locations.

There is a seemingly endless discussion on the topic scattered through many of the weekly WAGs thread.

Some stores, no problem -- scan & then give back the Q.
Some stores, OK but they want to keep the Q.
Some stores, must have original insert Q -- no printed copies. (some people traded, bought the Q etc..)
Other stores, depends if Q beeps, they won't take it -- if it doesn't, then cashier won't care.

Like everything at any of these retailers, YMMV

I grew up in front of the television. I use to watch anything that was on.... Anything

Now I watch less and less just because of time to coupon, shop, flea market and, oh yeah, stuff with the family.... My wife wanted me to watch that show with her once because people at her work were watching and talking about it. I couldn't stand it. She made me watch a 2nd episode....:vomit:

She is no longer allowed to watch that show or talk to those people at work.
:(

And just from trying to catch up, I don't know what happened to you're back, but i hope you get better fast!

There's also a number associated with it, it's been posted, but I'm not sure where now. I have the coupon taped to my coupon holder, but you might just be able to have your ba punch it that number!

Anyone know the number?

Blink------I think the 4.00 peelies have been replaced with 1.00's and 2.00's, but I've never seen a tp.

I had that waffle maker in my hands, but put it back, as I already have one and it didn't have removable plates to stick in the dishwasher..

I've never seen Jersey Shore and I watch a lot of tv while I'm on the computer.

Hope your back feels better soon Ms.Gal! Salon chairs are can give you a neck or back ache, even if you didn't start with one.

5829 is the number for the Revlon IVC, hope that helps! :)

You can always try google if you're in a hurry and can't wait for a reply. :)

Well, some cashiers will definately NOT key in a code for you.

It is more "under the radar" to try to have them scan a coupon. Which is one reason why there was such interest & discussion regarding getting a PDF posted of the those insert Qs.

There has been a similar discussion regarding the WAGs Qs in the WAGS Infant Care booklet (exp 12/31/11).

Although that booklet is still in the stores (I saw some this past Tues), a lot of posters can't seem to find them so the PDFs are used a lot.

I guess rugs don't get clearanced as frequently as other items because that seems to be another hot item on the Target clearance treasure hunt.

I have dogs. Dogs are not kind to rugs. Haven't found them cheap enough.

It just seemed like last week half of Target was on clearance. There are still some nice Oneida silverware sets and some Corning dish sets, they seem to be stuck at 30%.

I got a GF waffle make, I'm sure it will sit nicely in it's box next to my shaved ice thing and my ice cream maker.:lmao: Nonetheless it's good to be prepared. Won't ya'll be jeaous when I have fresh waffles with homemade icecream and a fresh fruit icee drink!

I have cats, and they aren't exactly friendly to rugs either. I picked up several of the woven rugs with the rubber type backing last year when Target had a TQ for them. I like them, they don't have that cheap look and I can toss them in the washer and they wash great. I use them under the litterboxes, for the cats to lay on etc.

Still some excellent prices to be had if you can use twin sheet sets, bed sets etc. Nothing left above twin though. Twin sheets can come in hadny if you get them cheap cheap. They make good drop cloths for painting, covering plants if it is just a nip too cold outside.

I don't really watch tv. If I am going to idly waste time, it's usually just sitting in front of the computer. DH has to turn it on when he walks into any room. There is a tv that sits above DH's computer, which puts it off to the side of my computer.... so it's always on in the background for me. "Stupid" can't even begin to describe some of the reality shows.

There are a few I do enjoy though. I love River Monsters; and I like the one with the guy who goes looking for old 18 wheelers to restore... he found Evel Knieval's rig the last show I watched.

Hit on the search for the forum and then go to advanced search. Once you hit advanced search you can enter the username and then narrow it to posts in the past 2 weeks, etc...

Sometimes I have better luck than other times, so good luck!

You just described me and my husband. He turns it on in every room he walks into. Sometimes I'll hear TV's in 3 rooms ... and he's outside mowing the lawn. :annoyed:

Like everything at any of these retailers, YMMV

and my store will scan right from my phone.

Ha, my phone isn't that fancy --- $9 clearance flip at RadioShack.

CVS specifically doesn't allow that. Haven't looked at WAGs coupon policy recently, I guess they don't mention mobile Qs ??

thorndor 09-23-2011 01:19 PM

So, I went into WAGS to use up my RRs. I did some assessment and realized for my needs RA and CVS are both sufficient and due to location more cost efficient.

When I got to the register I was the third person in line. The first person was a (on break / going off duty) WAGS cashier. Something she was buying (or maybe just bc she was an employee?) required approval so the "team lead" was called over to do the transaction. The other cashier just stood by watching. Now, this transaction was not quick (I think it involve RCs, etc.) and they were joking around rather than trying to be efficient. A multi person line formed behind me. I saw the store manager glance in our direction but he took no action. I think we were probably 6 deep before the "just watching" cashier decided to call IC3. The lady in front of me who just want to buy a single greeting card and go was fuming. It really was rather comical to see three employees standing around the counter (though in a pure technical sense one was a customer) while a whole line of other customers formed up and none of them seemed to care.

If we don't pay the high prices then eventually they'll lower, but I don't see that happening in the near future. :(

Hey, stitchshop girl - I hope you don't mind my moving your post over here. I'm cross-posting over here bc I didn't want to clutter this week's thread, but I think this is such an interesting point. You're right. I am totally contributing to the high prices when I keep buying coupons at their inflated price points. I have seen a *small* decline in the shelf clearing and overall rudeness at my stores but I wonder what'll come with the new EC season. During the first season, I saw people at their worst from about halfway thru the end of the season. I'm thinking that it was because all the re-runs and then people talking about "that show" with their co-workers, and before you knew it, everyone wanted in on the cake.

I actually had a co-worker bring EC into a conversation out of the blue. I keep my SD'er status totally in the DL because I hate the recent association with couponing, but my co-worker just kept going on and on about how all these people get all kinds of stuff for FREE!! with coupons. I wanted to say "Do you know how much they paid for those 100+ coupons?"

The coupons I was talking about in this week's thread were the Revlon ones. They were actually halfway decent right before they officially came out in the paper but I waited too long to make a decision. I actually got them cheaper than the average BIN or auction because I bought them in the middle of the night. I couldn't believe some of the prices I saw, though. Some BIN prices ranged about .50 per coupon  Sure, makes your product cheaper but considering you need at least 2 or 3 to make the deal work, that is way too much OOP+tax for my taste....

I wish I had something .... mmmmmm ..... useful or helpful to say to this but all that comes to mind right now is, you MUST be adopted. Your brother sounds like a very insensitive guy. (And someone that needs a phone with Spell Check.)

Just restarted my laptop and its still acting bad. I am going to have to get off computer til dh gets hme and I can use his. I think I may go for a walk until then.

My brother is a little slow and always tactless. I am used to it, or at least I thought I was.

I have a lot of mixed emotions about my moms passing and not sure how to handle them.
I wasn't really close to her,she was not a good parent.I think she was mentally ill and that was a big part of it. No matter what though, she is, ugh , was my mom....kwim???

My head is spinning with conflicted emotions

Dh is taking a long time to get home. I think I am going for that walk now. I need some fresh air

Agree with everyone else, don't know what to say other than I'm sorry. Sounds like a lot of issues have probably developed over the years. You can't change the past, but maybe in the near future you can start some amends with your brother. Life can suddenly seem very short and make you wonder why you held trivial grudges for so long.

Scanned Qs out of order and then corrected it, but RR did not print. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Details: Purchased the 2 Revlon foundations today and only 1 of the $5 Revlon MQs registered before the IVC code was entered. BA said she thought the RR wasn't going to print because of it, I thought we would still be fine. Proceeded with voiding the IVC, entered the 2nd Revlon MQ and re-entered the IVC. Paid and NO RR. HTH?
Moved on to a post void and re-rang w/all Qs in the proper order and got the RR.

I don't know what to think. If I hadn't been there, I wouldn't have believed it. The nuances of WAGs shopping are never-ending.

Yep!

I was just looking over my receipts. On one of them where I had the 3 concealers I had thrown on a 4.99 Christmas beanie and it actually let me go .40 negative! I can't remember going negative on the subtotal and eating into the tax before!

I purchased 3 concealers @ 5.99 each, with the double dip it took off an additional 2.00, leaving my total @ 9.97, so I had about 5.00 in "o", but was .03 short for the RR, but my jedi cashier and jedi AM manually printed 3.00's at the 2 different stores I went to!

stitchshopgirl 09-24-2011 11:00 PM

The foundations at my store were ringing at 8.39, so since you did 2 of those, you too must have dipped below the 10.00 by just a bit.

No. I was getting 1 of the 8.39 types and 1 of the swirl types pictured on the MQ at 8.99. Total 10.19 after BGLP and IVC. Total due came to $.19 just like the other transactions.

I'm amazed you could get your total above 10.00 with 2 items with the IVC and dd!

What does your receipt look like? How much did it deduct for the dd? I'm still not sure how they arrived at 2 on the 2 concealers, but when I did a concealer and the 8.39, it still deducted 2.00 to make it pennies short of the 10.00.

Did they do a manual print for you? I had the option of a manual print or just adding all the 3.00's together and picking up that value of stuff, but since Mom and I had are transactions planned as well as you can, not knowing stock, I opted for the 3.00 RR's.

I don't know, but we picked up a variety of holiday items and other items while increasing our RR's. :)

:) They did a post void. It's as if the transaction never happened. Then, rang the whole thing up again and everything worked fine.
My transaction: 8.39 BGLP + 8.99 BGLP - 5.00 MFGC - 5.00 MFGC - 4.00 MFGC (ivc) - 3.20 50% = .18

They calculate the 50% off after adjusting for the IVC deduction.
For the concealer, it looks like this:
$9.99 @ 40% off = $5.99
$5.99 - $2.00 IVC = $3.99
50% off of $3.99 = $2.00

So you weren't looking for "o"?

The first store I stopped at didn't even carry the concealers and didn't have Hyland's, so I didn't count them as a stop.

Has anyone tried the Bayer Contour USB to see if it produces the RR? Neither store I was in had any of the meters tagged.

I was just reading a little about the AARP (over 50) program. I'm trying to determine whether paying the yearly fee is worth the savings. What benefits would I get at drugstores like Wags and CVS? Are there extra benefits as far as couponing goes, i.e. extra deals, extra savings, etc.?

I know on occasion, members get a special deal like $5RR when you spend $15 or something like that. Check here for info on their health tour [wellnesstourbus.com]. If you get a free check-up, you get a card for a free year's membership to AARP. That way you can check out the benefits for free for a year.

Had a :chairbas: moment today at Wags. There is this employee there who is also a twin mom. She's very sweet to me when my kids are along, but she's very passive aggressive when I'm alone. I had two Optic White in my cart and she came running up to me and said:

"I'm going to have to take one of those from you. We're now limiting all Register Reward items to one."

I said: "You have to buy 2 to get the RR."

She said: "No. It says right here: one coupon printed per offer"

I explained that means you only get one RR, even if you buy 10 toothpastes.

She said: "No, that means you're only allowed to buy 1."

I said that the ad clearly stated you had to buy 2 to get the RR.

She argued with me and said that I was wrong.

I finally had enough and asked for the manager. This lady was pissed but I don't care. I'm not going to play nice with someone who refuses to use her brain. Right away the manager told the employee to do the transaction as I wanted with 2 toothpastes because I always "did things the right way" and that he trusted me. The manager said they've been having people come in on Sundays and wipe them out by 10 AM, thus the limits. I told him they have the wrong couponer in mind because I never do multiple transactions of RR items. The BA who knows me really well confirmed this. I also told the manager they need to do a better job of ordering. He told me they "totally neglected" to order the $4.99 razor that's in the ad, so they had 4 at the beginning of the sale. 4. On Sunday morning. Yet, they're worried about couponers wiping them out? Uh...no.

There is a store one mile down the road from this one. It's much easier when I need two of something to just hit both stores. That way I can continue to fly under the radar, no register drama looking like shelf-clearer and I can still get the two items I need.

There's also currently a peelie on Rice Krispies and other cereals where you send in 4 UPC's for a free years' membership or to extend your current membership for a year.

It pays for itself, but no reason to pay.

Randomly swiped Mom's card on a few transactions last night and the one with the antimated bat and lighted ghosts popped out a 5.00 RR. It's usually pretty easy to get the 5.00 or 10.00 RR that is offered. I guess there must have been a $$ threshold of 15.00 or 20.00 for the 5.00 for last months offer, so it's good I swiped or she would have missed out on that one!

You must scan the AARP card before paying and you scan it anytime they're ringing stuff up......although it drives the cashier nuts and then you're supposed to scan it when you redeem it. I'm not sure if it beeps if you forget to scan when you redeem or not. We just make sure to scan it. :)

I'm not looking forward to messing with them. First install in my area occurred last week. DH went there late last night for the first time. AM volunteered to ring up his transactions. Said he had been using the register a lot so as to become familiar with it. DH's report back was that the scanning now goes much easier, but the register didn't want to accept many of the item Qs and the register wouldn't accept the RRs. This AM was able to override and force everything through. Not my most favorite store and so many other options nearby, think I'll be working in to the new system slowly.

That way, you prove your point and the manager either have to fix it or give you the RR the cashier promised. Can't lose.

Not to mention, the extra work for the manager prove the incompetent of the cashier.

Funny you should mention this. When I told her one coupon per offer meant you only got 1 RR per transaction, she looked at the ad and then began to backtrack. She said she wasn't sure that I was right (instead of before when she insisted I was wrong). I said "Did you want to ring one up by itself and see what happens?"

She ignored me and continued to flip through the ad. I think by that point she'd figured out she was wrong but didn't want to be proven wrong by beginning the transaction.

Just someone wanting to buy a big item, using up their RR's, and then return the item for cash or credit. :facepalm2:

I was on my way to that forum, so I did take a look. SO I gave my thoughts on the topic, too. I didn't think that poster was trying to be sneaky...maybe I am wrong.

Things are different on the office store threads. The attitude there is about flipping or cashing out, so maybe that's where they were coming from?

Well, I kind of feel like if people are NOT trying to be sneaky, they won't even ask "what's going to happen to me" or "what will the store say" or "what are the odds I'll get......." and things of that nature. They'll just take the stuff back and do what they're gonna do and see for themselves.

Whereas, when someone asks those questions, I get the feeling they are looking for a way to beat/cheat the system.

Maybe it's just me though. I'm so soured by the EC show and the fraudulent Q users and the S&G'ers...... ya' know, all those people that are making couponing more and more difficult for those that are following the rules. :girly:

I did answer them politely though. :D

petergabrielfan 09-25-2011 06:04 PM

I guess I thought it was sort of common sense that returning something you got free after a drugstore reward of some kind is in bad form. :dontknow: To me there's just something inherently 'not right' about it.

petergabrielfan 09-25-2011 06:24 PM

I'll return something if I was supposed to get an RR and didn't or something rang incorrectly etc. In other words a store's fault problem. If it's a my fault problem, I just eat it. I know that wasn't the original question, but that's something that also bothers me when people do it.

I'm just funny about stuff like that, if I screw up, it's not everyone else problem.

Ditto.

I must've misread the weekly thead; I thought the person was asking about returning an item they bought with a RR, not returning an item that generated a RR.

No, you were correct. They wanted to buy an item with RR, then turn around and return it for cash.

shig 09-26-2011 04:24 AM

I made my stops at a few Wags tonight and then the SWM. Met an AMAZING CSM who PM'd the Wags ad after RR price!! I'm so excited I can't sleep. Lol. After my orders for the Optic White didn't come in at 3 different Wags and then checking 3 more that were hit by the S&Gers, I was finally able to get some! :D

I'm the exact same way. I will not return things I screwed up on. I just look at it as the cost of 'doing business' as a couponer. As a result I find I run a much tighter ship with myself as a couponer. I am more careful in my calculations and in trying to work out transactions because I don't want to make a mistake.

Yup, you're right. I actually forgot people buy other things at Walgreens. I never buy anything other than FARR at Walgreens. The exception to that is if it's just a horrible 2 weeks and I decide to cash out for a couple weeks.

Even so, if someone is returning something they bought with RR just to cash out and then return it for a gift card, IMO that's uncool as well. That's the fastest way to piss your store off is to look like a scammer. Now, if it's just crap, doesn't work, etc. then IMO it's ok to return or exchange for one that does work.

reg036 09-26-2011 06:44 AM

My store was out of Optic white, with no other couponers in before me....................................jeez is Colgate shorting the shipments already, can't be to hot of a product where there is a supply issue already!

comp199 09-26-2011 07:10 AM

I'm glad you guys posted about "eating the losses" when things go wrong. I had a terrible transaction at one store. Store is terrible and dirty, but with no Colgate in sight anywhere else, that was my last stop. Cashier is always very space-y but friendly so I went for it. My total after RR was waaay off. I asked her to verify all the prices. She rattled them off and they sounded right. I knew the math was wrong but I just paid. Walked to my car and realized she'd rang up two W pads, which evidently gave me a 50% on the 2nd one. I tried returning because I didn't actually get a 2nd bag of pads. Ended up getting only $1 back due to the BGLP discount. Now I see that she didn't scan a single coupon I gave her. GGGGRRR!!!!! I am so mad. That transaction cost me $4 even after the return. So much for MM week.

Those are the times that really test you as a couponer. I handed her all the coupons. She scanned them and they all made the "scanning sound" but none of them showed up. I guess I'll eat the loss but I'm pi$$ed about it. I had my transaction down to the penny but sometimes it just doesn't work out.

Aaahhh... thanks for letting me vent.

Thanks to the sucky new registers I've made a point of knowing exactly how many coupons I'm using. At the end before I pay I say "I gave you 5 coupons. Did they all come off on the receipt? I've had some trouble with your new scanners." Most cashiers know this and commiserate with me about it. They'll then double check the receipt for me. Obviously this doesn't work if you're at the front register and they're busy unless you want to be a jerk. :lmao:

I also don't walk out of the store till I know everything is correct.

Totally agree. My lesson, really, is just to avoid that store. What was so annoying was that there was a line of at least 2 people behind me and this was at the BA register  You should've seen the line by the front door. So, I took her word for it and figured maybe something had rung up wrong.

Oh well. The price of Coupon U, right? I sometimes still think back to the days when I'd easily spend almost $1 for tomato sauce. :lmao: Now I "pay" for it by buying other things.....

The new system is working out fine here, so far but I have always done the following at any store!
1) I know my OP other than tax before I check out.
2) I keep an eye on the screen as Q's & RR's are scanned to catch any that don't scan.

Aerochick75 09-26-2011 10:44 AM

A $2 RR will print if you buy 1 Optic White 4 oz tp. If you use a Colgate $2 RR from past weeks to pay for your 2 Optic Whites, the $6 RR won't print. At CVS, you may or may not get your EB's for Optic White. Also, OW rang up @ $2.39 at one store. At Target, OW is a $.01 MM with mq and Tq. Back to wags: the secondary shipper (don't know if I'm allowed to say the name) has also been oos of Colgate and Crest. They don't ship on weekends so maybe we'll get lucky today or tomorrow. If you're going to CVS and have that great but expensive q, you might want to play around a little bit with the scanner. It could make you forget all about OW.

I've heard the same in my area. It's not necessarily a 'store failed to order' problem, but a supply problem chain-wide.

ChrisV 09-26-2011 12:49 PM

First time I've ever seen a toothpaste be in such short supply at warehouse(s)....usually it is a snap to order any toothpaste and they always get it. No such luck on last 2 trucks here. RA is also out at our regional warehouse.

Come on Colgate, get with it!

I went to 4 of my regular stores on Sunday morning. I got the last 2 (on a hidden display) at the first store and the other 3 were wiped out. According to cashiers, they only had a handful to begin with. Then, I happened to be on the other side of town and hit the motherlode. They had about 15 on the shelf and another 20 or so on a stand-alone display. I grabbed 6 and counted myself a lucky camper. I'm not sure if this store just happened to get lucky or they just had that many from the first shipment a few weeks ago.

The friendly BA at my "home store" did casually mention that the TP was in short supply, so I'm assuming that meant they wouldn't be getting any more on truck day. I'm sending good coupon-vibes to everyone, though  Those coupons were pricey.

Isn't that the one they're having Saturdate for? I'm guessing that's why my passive aggressive Walgreens friend was so adamant I only buy 1.

I bought 2 yesterday and I think there were only 8 total on the shelf when I grabbed mine.

It's also Crest. Maybe toothpaste is just really hot right now and the manufacturers can't keep up. Everybody has a toothpaste sale going and it's almost always OW, Sensitive, and Crest Complete. On Crest, I'm wondering why if Complete just came out, I'm finding it clearanced at some stores??? Not that I'm complaining, but it just doesn't make any sense.

Well you know Saturday, she'll let you buy as many as you want so..... get there about 10:00am load up the cart; then proceed to walk around the store til about 5ish and then realize you forgot your coupons.

Did I mention this "payback" could take awhile.:lmao:

I dunno. Even the dumbest warehouse inventory person has got to realize a product that has a 2 month RR promo attached is going to need to be fully stocked. It doesn't seem to be in short supply at other stores, including Target having the double packs they like to do.

petergabrielfan 09-26-2011 01:20 PM

The 'hotness' has got to be due to high value coupons currently available, right?. I mean, people don't actually pay $4+ for a tube of toothpaste without coupons, do they?

I have seen Complete clearanced as well. I wonder if it's slow-moving sizes/flavors or something?

That's what I thought when I ordered way too many Keri Lotion coupons. I do believe my exact words were "This promo is going on all month long. Surely, they'll have enough stock". The last words of a fool

You know, now that you mention it - there was a big display with lots of that toothpaste a few weeks ago. I think the $1.50 coupon came out 2 or 3 weeks ago, so yes, the new EC'ers paid for all that toothpaste and left none for when it became an MM. Brilliant.

I was telling my sister about the toothpaste shortage. She immediately said all the new EC's are hoarding it.

Not sure what to think of the lack of stock though. You are right about the large floor displays. They have been out for a few weeks now but I still haven't seen any on the shelves at any of my Wags. The Crest was a total bust as all the stores sold out the first week of the month long RR and never got restocked.

I know this is not the case for every stores but I heard from my store BA that "email went out to pull Optic White from the shelf". That is until Saturdate. That is if that store have still any left.

Thanks. I didn't know that. But I guess they will have $2RR for 1 for next week or week after.
Then again, by then the Q would be expired.

I think Colgate decide to push this harder. In the beginning, they offer for cheap(it wasn't free even after consider the RR).
And this week, they are MM. And the Q expire this week also. So what the couponer to do?
Of course, we have to buy them as many as we can find.

And of course, the Q redemption rate is higher than ever before. And there are just too many Q out there for the stock of this TP at WAG.
And make the matter worth, the TP is the featured Saturdate item on the last day of the Q.

Come on Colgate, get with it!

They overly under estimate the Q redemption rate versus product stocks at the stores, especially the WAG. Especially this week at WAG. And especially this Saturdate at WAG.

Hopefully, Colgate put out another Q and run similar promo again in later date(after they fill the warehouse with million TP)

The promo maybe a month long. But how many of us really want to get this after the Q expire.:shake:(personally I didn't want to get them for free because of the tax)

I went to Target this afternoon and they were all out of Optic White. They had at least 200 tubes yesterday, probably more. By comparison, their shelves were full of Nivea body wash. It's funny, I thought that the opposite would happen.

Back to wags, OW is still oos, the Mentos monthly IVC still doesn't work, the P&G bogo50% still isn't working, and the Theraflu tea still doesn't produce the RR.

I typically only go to my Walgreens store on Sunday so I haven't been back. However, I don't really understand why they don't/can't/won't fix this one. It's pretty straightforward what it's for and how it should be working. Walgreens makes me crazy sometimes!

They have to put in a fix-it ticket to corp, which can sometimes take a week to get corrected. That's just how long it takes. It doesn't go any slower because it's a hot deal
like Mentos. If you're talking about should it be a quicker fix, you're absolutely right, it should be. Ok, so if corp can't fix it quickly, why doesn't the store help you out by adjusting the price down themselves? Because if they do, they'll lose the scan down credit from corp and be selling the Mentos for way below cost. If a mgr does that for you, she's taking the hit for something that isn't her fault. This is a deal that I'm personally going to pass on (unless the IVC is fixed), but I think that the store should do the deal for anybody who wants to get the gum (up to the limit on the IVC).

Yes, sorry. I meant the process should just be all-around quicker. In the case of a more nuanced/complicated deal like Revlon or the like, I can understand it taking more time. In this case it seems like it's something that ought to be fairly easy to fix.

All this that you mentioned is exactly why I passed on this deal too. I didn't even bother to pull my coupons. I get enough free gum elsewhere that this wasn't worth the hassle. No one in my house even chews gum. I just donate it to my local food bank because they put treat bags together for clients at Easter and Christmas. They especially like this for the teenagers' bags. You know...'cause teenagers really don't like anything. ;)

I try not to put my store in a spot of asking them to do something that may get them in trouble, so I completely agree with you there. If I hear the IVC is fixed I may head out to get a couple packs, but probably not.

I am watching opening statements in the Conrad Murray trial and they had a picture of Michael Jackson on a hospital bed - it looked like a tube was attached to his face.. Clearly he was dead.. I am disturbed.. VERY disturbed.. I have no opinion of Murray and I wasn't even a MJ fan, but that was upsetting.. ugh.

Ugh...that is horrible. No warning at all? I hate when they do that, especially on shows my kids might watch. Obviously kids aren't watching MJ's doctor's trial, but you get my drift.

Revlon always has problems. Remember when the IVC for Top Speed didn't work last year (I think it was Black Friday)? It also took a very long time to fix and it wasn't a complicated deal.

I'm glad that you look at the long term benefit of having a great relationship with your store vs the short term benefit of getting free gum. I wish that more people would see it this way. However, that shouldn't stop you from doing a deal that you have every right to do. In my case, if I did the Mentos deal, it would take a big chunk out of the store's bottom line and I'm not willing to do that. But if they fix the IVC, then game on...

You had to remind me about the Top Speed IVC. I had pushed it to the deepest recesses of my mind. That was a sweet deal but that IVC was awful.

I'm all about the long-term relationships with my stores. I seldom have cashier trouble and I try to treat cashiers as I preferred to be treated when I was a cashier in college. I always tell people who are new that you want your stores to look forward to your visits; not immediately call the manager because they know there will be trouble. Sometimes with couponing you definitely need to pick your battles and look ahead past this one particular deal.

Thanks for the words about letting a messed up IVC stop my deals. It's not really that for me. I'm assertive enough to know when I'm in the right and when to speak up for myself. For me it's more that I'm a SAHM of twin toddlers (and a 1st grader). Being sane vs. free gum isn't even a tempting tradeoff in my case. I usually shop on Sunday mornings when my DH can handle munchkin patrol. Like you, I'm also concerned with my store's bottom line because they are so nice to me. If the IVC gets fixed and I have time, I'm there!

I am watching online, so it might be edited out on the TV, so not sure?!? I've watched a lot of trials, so I am sort of used to seeing this sort of stuff, but I guess since it is Michael Jackson - it was jarring..

pwcpal 09-27-2011 10:07 AM

The store can activate any monthly IVC or weekly in-ad coupon. Only takes the SM, EXA, or AM a minute or two to do. If they don't know how, they should learn. They control this situation, so I wouldn't worry so much about asking them to activate the coupon or do a PM. It's their choice, if you bring it to their attention. I always ask what they prefer.

Still in a lot of pain but it's Homecoming week at the boy's school so no time to be layin' around. Putting together costumes for their Spirit Days, baking cookies for bake sale, several appts, acupuncture tomorrow, MRI tomorrow, proofreading is backed up, blah, blah, blah...... Yeah, very sad.. I just don't know about who is to blame for all this though. What a complete mess. His death was avoidable - that's what was sad, but I think he pushed away --anyone who tried to help him get sober.. This trial is going to be interesting, IMO.

Yes, Anna Nicole syndrome for sure. Surround yourself with pushers and dopers who make it easy for you to deny you have a problem. Then leave your family in a big giant mess. Very sad indeed.

After watching the opening arguments, I think the trial is just going to be very sad, and somewhat unnecessary. Some of the things about MJ that will be disclosed should just stay private. Is putting Murray away for 4 years worth dragging the deceased MJ thru the mud? I don't know. Pull Murray's MD license, and leave Michael rest in peace.

I was at Hard Rock when all the Anna Nicole stuff went down. You definitely knew something was up with all the sheriffs around. One thing about the Seminoles, they don't usually involve "outsiders" in anything whatsoever on their land.

Yeah, I agree. The defense painted Michael as a suicidal drug addict in opening statements and they quoted witnesses they will call to prove he was a drug addict. I doubt Michael would have wanted this circus to occur. I read there is a distinct possibility that even if he gets convicted - he won't serve jail time. I don't know what to make of it all - I feel like a voyeur and sort of creepy watching this, but it's trainwreck worthy.. so I keep watching.
