Although I usually opt for external exhausts, there's been some complaint about the sound it generates on the evga forums.

First off, I'd say the benefits outweigh the negatives

Second, I actually own it and the 5 other fans I have running around my case are pretty quiet, but I can hear them over the gpu fan regardless of how hard I run my computer.

For reference, I have a Cooler Master Storm Sniper with all the fan locations but the one on the bottom filled (I run the fans on low because the case has good airflow and I don't run a very advanced cpu; i3-530), plus I have the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus aftermarket cpu heat-sink + fan running

orion2001 06-24-2011 12:08 PM

Thanks! I think I'm going to go for this and flip my HD 5770 on Ebay to recoup a fair bit of the cost.

orion2001 06-24-2011 12:19 PM

Okay, I need some advice. Do you think I should jump on this, or get the lower clocked SE version for $99.99 from Newegg and try my luck at manually overclocking it?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...llFullInfo

Not sure which would be the better deal.

Which is the better deal is always objective. As far as one vs the other, the SE isn't simply a lower clocked card. It has less Stream processors (336 vs 288 I believe). Overclocking an SE won't get you a standard 460. It may get you the same relative performance, but you could also always overclock a standard 460 to something stronger as well.

Thanks a lot for the info saxman. Really appreciate it. Did not realize that the SE had lesser hardware. I guess the reviews I was looking at were comparing a different GTX 460 vs the Superclocked version where they mentioned that there was no difference except that the Superclocked version is handpicked with cores that can be clocked higher.

That's really what it comes down to doesn't it? Is $30 worth a 7-10 frame jump (higher resolutions) and a lifetime warranty  About 25% more cost looks like... does that = 25% more performance?

I'm not sure myself. Going to wait for 4th of July and see if anything else comes down...

Heh, yeah, it's a tricky question. Maybe I should wait for a better deal? Somehow I don't think there are that many to be had considering the 5770 that I bought over a year ago on ebay is still selling for 90% of the price I paid on eBay

Update - Looks like Newegg has price matched it? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...-_-Product

Dame u market saturation.... where are all da n000bs

when does your sale end? How did you list it? Did you just list it as Photoshop Elements or did you include Printshop and Scrapbook also?

I see most of them close between $70 and $88 or so. I see VERY little saturation.

Waiting for my $10 coupon to show up in my email (hopefully will come in before the deal ends). I think after selling my HD 5770 and the Software package on EBay, plus rebate and coupon, I might break even or even make a bit of money out of this.

Even with the $10 off for signing up for email? It says once you get it you can call and get it credited since the deal ends today.

BTW front page says free shipping but details show there is a shipping charge....conflict of words there or am I missing something?

link on front page for newegg is going to the wrong item. it's going to the one with only 2 year warranty, and it's 179.99 before rebates instead of 169.99.

here's the correct one with the lifetime warranty:

This is probably a dumb question, but would this be able to utilize 3 displays at once? I know ATI has eyefinity which enables that especially the 5770 for cheap but if this can run three displays ill definitely jump on this.

Thanks in advance.

From here [tomshardware.com]:

From iam2thecrowe:

"if you want that you need an ATI card which supports eyefinity (3 displays). All the ATI 5xxx or 6xxx cards do that. For nvidia you need 2 cards to display more than 2 monitors. If you are planning on gaming with 3 monitors you really need 2 higher end cards in sli/crossfire. If you just want to display 3 monitors for non-gaming use, then any of the ati 5xxx series or 6xxx series cards are capable. For a card similar to gtx460 performance an ati 6850 would be the go."

just gonna warn you guys that 460's (or 400 in general) sometimes have a black screen or login freezes because of conflicts with the motherboard or other factors unknown. Their lifetime warranties are worth it.

Not if you plan to constantly sell your cards. Asus and MSI (I think gigabyte as well) base their warranty on the serial number only. So it doesn't matter who owns the card.

This is very useful if you upgrade ur PC constantly.

well judging by how there's many forums on EVGA and other forums with people having problems with it I'm not sure it's quite a rarity but their customer service is definitely helpful so it's worth getting EVGA.

You "lost" it and they upgraded you? I can't imagine a company would be in buisness with a policy like that.

It's a warranty covered overclock. If you ruin your card through overclocking it's typically not covered by warranty.

Someone posted this for $10 more which has a higher OC and different build but a shorter warranty:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applic....lWbscABuA

I think the SSC (supersuperclocked) card has better components than some of the lesser gtx 460 cards, but I don't know which ones.

In for a pair. One from Newegg. One from TD. I need to replace my (SLI) two 9800GTX+

Wish Newegg rebate allowed 2 like TD.

Thanks OP! TU Rep'd

Newegg has the same one for $140 after MIR and only $3 shipping.

Edit: I see someone else spotted the newegg deal.

This was a good deal because when I first posted it up, newegg only had this for $199.99 with $30 rebate making it $169.99.

TD clearly had it the cheapest at the time, and I guess newegg saw and decided to price match it haha

Anyways, I guess it all comes down to where you're located. Newegg chargest tax to certain states, such as CA while TD doesn't; and on the contrary, TD charges tax to FL where Newegg doesn't and so on. haha

Does anyone knoe if this video card fits Dell XPS 8300 and does 8300 has enough power(watt) to support it?
thanks

My dad has an XPS 8300 and I do remember seeing at least one 6 pin power plug from the PSU. You need to check if the XPS 8300 has two 6 pin power plugs since the GTX 460 needs two. If so, then you should be good installing in XPS 8300.

I changed out the Dell PSU for a Corsair CX430. It's less wattage but people have been using a 460 with it.

Its the 6850 HD and only $10 more. According to the benchmark charts
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net..._gpus.html its better.

Plus you get a life time warranty with XFX as well. Just saying. Tell me if i'm right,,,

In for 1 @ Tigerdirect, since they don't tax CA.

Would of done Newegg for $10 off new customer code, but my CA sales tax is $15.72

Legit copy of Digital Suite is awesome too. Will give Mafia 2 code to a friend.

+1 and Rep for SLI in my rig. Bring on Battlefield 3.

Illidan 06-24-2011 07:38 PM

In for one. Thanks and repped.

Can anyone tell me if this will work in a Asus P5K Deluxe mobo? Am currently using a 9600GT 512mb

Thanks~

If you have to ask if a potential video card upgrade is usable in your current system, perhaps you shouldn't be poking around inside your computer.

quicks0rt 06-24-2011 08:57 PM

Tigerdirect vs Newegg for CA residents: Make a new account, easy to do, and if your conscience allows it, lol. With shipping + tax all figured in, the Newegg comes out about 1-2 dollars more expensive. Considering recent events, and factoring in faster shipping and better customer service, Newegg is an easy choice to make.

Thats what I did but end up canceling the order and ordered 2 from TD (2 per rebate).

As a guy looking to replace his dual 4850s, I would never buy a radeon again. Their drivers are crap and I have to use drivers that are over a year old just to play BFBC2. All other drivers crash the game. As far as I am concerned, never again.

Machnificent 06-25-2011 04:05 AM

Very good buy, I saw it and clicked add to cart right away =], currently using a 9800 gtx+ 512 mb, using it to stream on my pc, get some fps drops sometimes because I stream on Justin.tv as a producer, trying to become a partner. Going to build a new PC soon but for now on my i5-650 streaming is not that bad but could get more fps, so I went for this card. Definately going to get the gtx 560 when I get start on my computer.

I've had an 1 XFX 4850, 1 MSI 4890 and 2 MSI 5850 xfire. No problems at.

Aaand this does not work it seems.
I just called and was informed that I must follow the $10 link in the $10off email (that I just got) to get the discount and that the past purchases are ineligible and whoever told me otherwise was misinformed.

Anybody able to actually apply it retroactively?

Hmm, that's odd. I just received my $10 dollar credit. I don't have time to call today for I have to head somewhere in 10 minutes and is out for the whole day, but I'll check tomorrow.

I clearly stated on the phone last time the situation, and they said they will be happy to credit back. Hopefully others have better luck.
