This post can and should be edited by users like you :)

Wiki from Previous GC Deal post (edited to reflect 500 w/75 bonus)
1 - Dell allows three total forms of payment for an order
2 - Non-promotional gift cards can be combined ($500+$500+$500 = 1x $1500 card)
3 - Promotional cards cannot be combined ($75x3 = 3 separate cards)
4 - If you have a balance, your credit card counts as form of payment
5 - You can use multiple gift cards by calling in (the website limits you to one)

Example:
Dell Laptop ~$1200
Buy 2x $500 gift cards, get 2x $75 promo cards
Dell will combine the $500's into a $1000
Total Payment:
$1000 gift card
$75 Promo card
$125 left over for credit card (plus tax and ship or whatnot)
*Can only use one promo card here because the residual balance will be more than the other promo card can cover and the credit card must be used to cover the rest.

Dell Monitor ~$1100
Buy 2x $500 gift cards, get 2x $75 promo cards
Dell will combine the $500's into a $1000
Total Payment:
$1000 gift card
$75 Promo Card
$75 Promo Card
+$50 left over on Promo Card (minus tax / ship)
*Can use both promo cards here because the residual balance is a credit

Got an error when applying giftcard and promo card for a purchase amount less then the two combined. Put $5 on a credit card and all went through.

In my experience, the promotional gift card has been emailed to me within a few minutes to me waiting 2-3 hours. I think in the previous deal, a few people were complaining they had to call and check on the status of their promotional gift cards.

I knew some sort of get money quick deal was coming to Dell.

Do these GCs expire?

Yes you can :) I purchased mine on the outlet too using the 20% coupon with gift card + credit card. When you order it online, you cant use more than 1 gift card at a time. You will need to call the sales rep for him to use the promo card too.

I actually ordered mine online using a credit card + gift card. I later phoned them to apply my 75$ egift card and they obliged(sound disappointed if they say they cant do it and wait :) )

kan555 08-17-2011 07:42 AM

Got 5 cards last time. they all came about one hour after purchased the $400 ecards. they expire 90 days after issued. still have 4 of them in my hand waiting for 4 good deals.

Regular gift card doesn't expire (The one you buy with $500 or multiples totalling $500). The $75 one expires in 90 days

ktg 08-17-2011 07:50 AM

As I recall, you can't use these certificates in the Small Business division of Dell.

Just sayin'.

marcatwork 08-17-2011 07:52 AM

woaah :) these will come handy as black friday approaches.

jake24 08-17-2011 07:53 AM

So we have to use two different email address? like one to send and another one to receive.

Also would you be able to use both gift cards on single purchase?

I ordered many last time also.

I sold one of them to Cardpool.com for 60+ dollars. They send you a check when you provide them with the gift card number and PIN. I called them to ask if it is OK if the card has an expiration date, and they said that it cannot have a expiration date. Luckily, they do not ask you if the card expires when you enter the information on their website. Everything worked swimmingly.

So you cheated some guy out of money when he tries to redeem the "gift card" and finds out its expired?

You better hope someone purchases that gift card from cardpool before the 90 day expiration is up. You provided cardpool with your credit card number when you submitted the dell egc for sale, so if for some reason a buyer informs cardpool that the code is expired, they'll charge your credit card for the amount that they paid you.

Ouch. Definite deal-killer for me. That's the only division I ever order from, since I have a tax exemption.

That's not true. I've used two GC and Promo cards on the small business side and I think if you look at the old thread, others did as well.

Purchases from the outlet do not qualify for free Xbox promotion. I think it's select Dell Home systems 699 and up.

Hold up guys. I'm interested in the U2412M monitor (it's new):

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sn...u=320-2676

I want to wait till there's a coupon that takes it to roughly $300-320. Would I have any trouble applying the $75 balance and the $500 gift card once it's on sale? I assume the balances never expire.

Mr.Keroro 08-18-2011 06:54 AM

Debating to get the card. The $75 card will make it in time for Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

I just ordered one also, and it took 40 minutes to get to my inbox. I don't know why it is taking so long!

Trying to get a computer off the outlet but the site keeps crashing every time I try to login. Anyone else?

Just got mine, I got an e-mail saying I had to call to verify the order within 24 hours or the order would be returned. Got the e-mail little over an hour after placing order. So I called them, had to give them name of issuing bank of credit card and the customer service number. I'm fine with that but then the guy asks me what the nearest hospital is and then what the nearest school is. I started laughing as NO ONE has ever asked me that before regarding a cc purchase. Sometimes you will see ?'s based on info on your credit report when someone is trying to verify your identity but never for just a cc purchase.

I told him I don't mind calling in to verify an order and some additional card details but those questions are just silly. There are a bunch of schools around here as well as multiple hospitals. I'm sure they have to deal with a lot of fraud but come on what hospital really? Anyway shortly after I hung up I did get both of my cards.

You're probably not going to get it anytime tonight. As the manual processors are probably off from work already.

There is always next time. Dell outlet loves to run 20-25% coupon all the time.

BiG DoGN12 08-18-2011 10:32 PM

You should of at least purchased during early business hours. :(

jonb333 08-18-2011 10:38 PM

I know, oh well I guess I'm stuck with a $500 dell gift card! lol...well at least until they run another 20-25% off promotion.

SlickDealzYo 08-18-2011 10:47 PM

I'm reading the terms of Dell's giftcard and I see nowhere where it states exclusions. Someone said that it doesn't work on Small/Medium business. Someone else said they don't work in the outlet. Why is that? And where does it say that (i'm curious)? Buying a 500 gc should be like using 500 cash.... why would certain items be excluded? It doesn't make any sense to me. A GC should have liquidity. If there's exclusions like that, there's no point buying a GC--just use cash/cc.

No kidding, I told the guy those are just silly questions. I have never even heard of such a thing. The purchase was for my work.Got a Latitude E4200 Laptop: Intel Core 2 Duo ULV SU9600 (1.60GHz) Latitude On, WWAN Genuine Windows 7 Professional - scratch n dent. It has a backlit keyboard and SSD drive. 12.1" screen not the biggest but picked it up for $539 after tax. Coupons knocked off $125. For what we need them for it was something we are looking for and the backlit keyboards are so hard to find in the outlet most of the time. We are gonna end up getting 1 more, I did end up getting 1 more gift card. Didn't have to call in the 2nd time now just gotta figure out what to use the $75 cards on. I was thinking extra ram or powercords or something.

Right, I bought mine from the Dell Outlet. It wouldn't let me add more than 1 gift card and then prompted for a cc# for the remaining balance. I'm just gonna use the promo card on some accessory or something. I don't think you are suppose to combine it but I think one guy posted he called them and got them to apply it. I hate calling dell, I always get some Indian person that I can't understand. Not worth the hassle of calling in my opinion.

Just to set the record straight on two points...

You NEED to call if you want to combine a gift card and a promo card. But you DON'T talk to people in India, this isn't tech support. ;)

And these cards ARE valid in the Small Business side. I only buy from the SB side and I've used 4 of them from the last promo. All went without a hitch or any hassles (except for the phone call if I combined GC's and Promo Cards).

meridian8 08-19-2011 03:58 PM

Madib is wrong. You CANNOT use gift card and promo card TOGETHER over the phone for OUTLET purchases. Your call will go to India and they will tell you they dont handle OUTLET sales, and harass you with upsell.

It was a frustrating experience calling them last night. Dell and HPQ service are the worst in the business. It's just not worth it for the frustration and a few bucks in savings.

Call sales and you'll be calling India. That's fact.

Sorry, I should have been more clear and maybe not quoted the part about the Outlet. I have no first hand experience with Outlet stuff, my point was that you CAN combine the two types of cards with a call to a non-India CSR and you can use the cards in the small business side.

Thanks for correcting my screw-up!

noneoftheabove 08-19-2011 04:29 PM

you can combine it using chat. you don't have to call.

I'm wondering if anyone else can confirm that you cannot use both the GC and the promo $75 GC on outlet purchases. People in the thread from June seem to have made that work.

Not that I doubt your experience meridian8, I'm just trying to see if that's the norm.

I was just able to combine the two for a Dell Outlet purchase. I just had to call their outlet services after adding the item to my cart. Read them the identifier and all they payment information. No questions, no problem.

Three forms of payment per phone order. The wiki explains it very well.

they'de have to give me at least a $500 GC...

Can you buy a GC with a DPA? Or do you have to use a bank account to do it?

lexxxer 08-28-2011 08:51 PM

considering this for upcoming desktop purchase. since 20% off outlet coupon just ended i guess id want to wait up to 3 months for another outlet coupon, but then the machine i have my eye on might not be offered... or it might be cheaper lol

would get two cards for ~750$ refurb system, could see using the leftover $500 gc for camera or tab purchase sometime.. the promo cards last for 3 months which covers black friday :D

if you're willing to buy a refurbished machine from dell outlet, ive been seeing i7 2600s for $590-$700 depending on what else they have in them. and that's before considering the $75 promo card. plus the promo card lasts 3 months i think so maybe hold out for an added discount or sales events to pick one up even cheaper. that might be my plan, have to decide by tomorrow, plenty of deals coming soon though, neh?

I think if you call it in, you might still get the deal, but I've never seen Dell pull off their screen like this. They usually don't change it until tomorrow, but looks like they are off to enjoy their labor day weekend.

Was anyone able to use multiple Promo Cards ALONG with a Gift Card that covered a total purchase amount?

I had enough $ on the Gift Card and 2 Promo Cards to pay for a cpu, but they said they NEED a credit card payment (she charged $1) to avoid fraud. I read a previous post on here, about how someone was able to pay with all three:

"Dell Monitor ~$1100
Buy 2x $500 gift cards, get 2x $75 promo cards
Dell will combine the $500's into a $1000
Total Payment:
$1000 gift card
$75 Promo Card
$75 Promo Card
+$50 left over on Promo Card (minus tax / ship)
*Can use both promo cards here because the residual balance is a credit"

I'm just wondering, as well as letting people know that having to use a credit card payment may prevent you from being able to use 2 promo cards and a gift card... even if it covers the complete cost.

Thanks.

With the last go around, I was able to do:

$75 promo
$75 promo
$some but not all of consolidated gift card

No credit card needed.

Thanks for the info!

I had to call for my order, and was on the phone for an hour. She couldn't put both promo cards in her system... I feel like calling up and complaining but may not bother. I even mentioned how I heard other people were able to use both promos and a gift card, as you did AND asked if they had any information on their site about HAVING to use a credit card to avoid fraud. She was just like I'm sure it's somewhere in small fine print. What a joke.

Thanks again.
