REBATE FORM [frys.com]

Thanks!

Conformer101 09-04-2011 07:59 PM

Why 2:30am? The rebate says 9/5. So wouldn't that be midnight local time? I guess it depends what the order summary says.

turtleXL 09-04-2011 08:01 PM

I got it the last time it was $20. its hard to utilize all of its capacity cuz of 2.0 transfer rates. but good price

i assume it will probably work at 3am for west coasters...

for east coasters, better to stick with 3am than 12am?

their ad mentioned 2:30am pst, but i don't see why purchasing it at 12am pst would make a difference

UKBrad 09-04-2011 08:02 PM

I picked up one of these a few weeks ago. It has painfully slow write speeds compared to my OCZ Rally 2 32GB. The price is right though.

Yeah, especially since it is already $38. The main issue is what time the receipt shows - local time or PST.

yeah.. so for east coasters, i think it's best to stick with 3:01 AM EST just to be on safe side. :D

Not a bad deal, though it'd be better if it were FS.

Agreed. It's really hard for me to justify purchasing USB flash drives anymore when I've gotten portable hard drives on clearance for cheaper than this.

redbarent 09-04-2011 08:24 PM

Great little drive

I bought mine from Fry's last Black Friday. I use it daily, and have never had a problem with it. And it is a HUGE Drive.

greenmeansgoooo 09-04-2011 08:41 PM

what transfer class? 4? 6? not 10

Tripl3Troubl3 09-04-2011 08:44 PM

Never had a good experience with Frys mail in rebates.

Sorry about this. Can anybody post the full ad for tomorrow

Rather spend a bit more money to get the Supersonic Xpress 32GB. USB 3.0. MAD fast.

pretty sure hes talking about real world performance. mechanical drives nowadays advertise sata3 yet it can barely utilize a fraction of the interface speed.

Dash - what an ironic (I know, I know) name for this drive. Still, a good deal for $20.

bolland99 09-04-2011 11:34 PM

wouldn't buy a USB 2.0 flash drive at this point unless it was obscenely inexpensive USB 3.0 makes a big difference.

TDMVP73 09-04-2011 11:39 PM

If you're going to buy this drive, I suggest doing it at precisely 12:01 AM PST/1:01 AM MST/2:01 AM CST/3:01 AM EST

It seems that whenever the rebate forms get posted and the system updates, good deals go to "unavailable" for shipping. I don't think Fry's actually goes out of stock, I just think they are douchenuggets.

Thank you, my friend, dint realize the rebate link in the 1st post.

cstu 09-05-2011 12:19 AM

Price comes out to $44.56 with tax here in CA. That's close to $30 AR once you figure in the postage for the rebate, not to mention the time with the rebate.

Um...writing speed of the Supersonic Xpress is 25MB/s. I have one and can vouch for the 65MB/s read, 25MB/s write speed....provided you have USB 3.0. haha

The keyword here is "yet". lol. When you DO have USB 3.0 (as will most PCs very soon), you'll thank me for getting a USB 3.0 flash drive.

There's a hole on the end of the drive. Newegg has more pics on their page:

the other main point is that the 3.0 version is slightly over twice the cost of the 2.0 AR.

i was reading on NE too, as i remember the last time this $20 AR deal was around there was talk about a number of reviewers saying that the tab to eject the USB plug breaks off. also a couple of reviews about the case have quality issues.

Thanks for the mention. That's what I was referring to. Besides, best to spend money on newer technology rather the old. Just IMO.

It's around $26.90 after rebate and postage. Frankly considering the reviews on the read/write speeds and build quality, I'm going to sit this specific model out. I'll keep that USB 3.0 version I was mentioning. I would have gotten this one if I could have done local pickup but I guess it can't be done.

im considering the usb 3.0 verysion too as its only $5 more AR when using the newcustomer10 e-code for the additional $5 off, instead of just $5 off with the sales e-code.

Are these fast enough to be used as replacement harddrives for xbox 360?

appple 09-05-2011 06:55 AM

Unavailable

bubbachuck 09-05-2011 07:01 AM

while the retractable mechanism is convenient, from my experience with a Kingston retractable drive, it provides a weak point for the drive so be careful not to be as rough with it as you would a normal drive. basically the casing opened at the point where the slider was and I'm currently using tape to hold it closed.

This deal is on today's ad in the bay area. I'll be picking one up and get the rebate.

halluc1nati0n 09-05-2011 11:21 AM

How's this even FP material? I was debating on this last week after it got posted on SD, just coz' it was USB 2.0. If it's hitting FP this time, I'd at least expect a price reduction. Is it just me or are the FP rules getting a tad ridiculous?

SMP 09-05-2011 04:08 PM

Thanks for the comments for the supersonic. It is only $5 more AR after shipping and taxes, so I am getting it instead. I also did not like the slider thing; it looks like it would break off easily.
