Vitamix 5200 New at Costco $374.99
65535 Attachment(s)
Yeah this is expensive for a "blender" but its a hell of a deal for a hell of a product! I picked one up to replace my juicer (same effect, without losing any of the fiber/nutrients that you get from juicing!).
Costco: Vita-mix High Powered Blender 5200c $374.99 Next lowest on Amazon: $583.99 http://www.amazon.com/Vitamix-520...B004F9L4EI Attached is a pic from the display :) http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/...092870.jpg |
Yes, we got one today from Costco :) The one from Costco is actually Vitamix 5200c that comes with an 48oz container with a coupon to redeem either a recipe book or extended warranty. The Vitamix 5200 comes with a bigger 64oz container and a recipe book.

This is not far from regular price?? Which container does this come with?

can you provide a link to costco? is this the one: link [costco.com]
where did you see this? B&M only? |
Number 1 rated blender according to Consumer Reports.....
|
I bought it last Sunday from local Costco for $397.99; will they price match? and by the way, I have never thought making smoothies will be so much fun/
|
Which Costco? Can someone verify the container size?

It is available at costco in Lake Zurich IL. It does hace the smaller contaiiner, just go on vitamix.com and look at the 5200c |
I just got one as well!

My Costcos have a road show where they feature these blenders several times a year--if your store isn't stocking them, you could ask if they will be having road shows any time soon. I had the Vitamix for several years and it's great for smoothies, soups, etc. I sold mine on Ebay and bought a Blendtek from Costco (at a roadshow), mostly because the Vitamix didn't fit under my cabinets and I got tired of that. Not trying to TC, and not interested in starting a debate about VM vs BT--just didn't work for me.
BTW i bought the Vitamix for about $350 at Costco 5 years ago, and sold it this year for $325, so they really hold their value! |
|
I snagged this at the same price at the local road show here in San Antonio a few months ago.
|
sorry I cannot update the title, but after looking up the 5200c, its even more expensive! that 7 year warranty is freakin awesome!
also I would like to add B&M, but with costco I assumed everyone would know its B&M only (their online is NEVER representative of what they have in store, and vice versa) sorry |

This isnt a bad deal, but the blendtec from the other day is a better value. $165 with enclosure is a steal even as a refurb.
|
I bought a Vitamix 5200 couple years ago for around $400 but later return it because I bought a refurbished 4500 from Overstock for about $270... bad mistake, the 4500 is very noisy and, even though the HP rated the same as 5200, it does not completely liquidate the fruits. I am thinking of buying this Blendtec [costco.com] for $370 ($70 off). I believe it comes with 2 jars as shown on the coupon book
One reviewer said the Blentec is noisier than Vitamix with side by side comparision |
I just can't believe a blender cost this much!!!
|
Vitamix
I have a vitamix and I can tell you that there is no better blender on this earth. Also, the company itself is amzingly helpful and compassionate. My daughter did not eat until she was 5 and we didn't want her on canned chemicals. Vitamix offers an amazing deal to these type of children (and adults) and I found out about it and never looked back. My daughter was a different kid in less than two weeks. Our Vitamix will do anything including cooking, grounding raw meat, and making anything you want into a liquid. I can't say enough about Vitamix and even though my daughter is off of her feeding tube and I could sell this for quite a bit of money, I will never part with my Vitamix!!

For people without a Costco, I think this is almost the same thing (but with different books and only a 5 year warranty) for $399 on QVC.com. You can choose from four colors, and it's got free shipping and an option of paying in five installments. I've been researching Vitamix blenders recently and have found that the 5200, Turbo VS, Pro 200, Creations II, and several other names are all actually the same machine. The containers can differ (64 vs. 48oz, rubberized handle vs. hard clear plastic, etc.), but the motor/base is the same. I'm having a hard time deciding between the 48 and 64oz containers, so I've not made a purchase yet. The 64oz will not fit on a counter top under your upper cabinets, but I don't want to buy the 48oz and later have to spend over $100 for a bigger container if needed. Whichever you buy, I'm sure you'll love it! It can make nut milks, nut butters, smoothies, grain flours, ice cream, soup (it actually heats because of the friction of the high speed blades), sauces, salad dressings, mayo, etc. |
I have Vitamix and Blendtec, both IMO have minor pros / cons. Both are top notch, however, IMO Costco has a better deal on the Blendtec right now. $369.99 + tax , you get 8yr warranty, and 2 Jars. One of which is the Wild Side Jar, that Blendtec won a $14 million patent infringement suit against Vitamix earlier this year.

I have both, they are both extremely noisy, IMO the blendtec is a bit louder, sometimes my ears ring a little after I make a smoothie in the Blendtec. Make no mistake, these are the most powerful machines in your kitchen and I bet the loudest by far. Your Neighbor above is bouncing around too much? testing out their surround sound at 1am? Start making smoothies at 5am with one of these for punishment!:bulb: |
Thought I'd toss my two cents in - did a lot of research on this before I chose the VitaPrep 3 earlier this year (see below) which many hardcore natural food sites named top dog. A lot comes down to warranty versus how many cycles the blender is designed for (& which is difficult to find, usually only for the commercial models). The VitaPrep is Vitamix's 3 HP commercial model. The difference between the VitaPrep 3 and the 5200 is 3 HP versus 2 HP motor rating, a better cooling fan (important, especially in commercial applications or making soups, which I have done many times! Check YouTube for video comparisons.) and yes, a shorter warranty (3 year parts, 1 year labor) - quite a bit shorter over the Costco roadshow 5200 - but after researching I found that the VitaPrep is actually rated for many more cycles.
In case anyone is interested, two sites of interest: the first one I didn't buy from, but if you are looking for a new blender with a long warranty, good power, etc but cheaper than the Vitamix or Blendtec check this out: http://www.3blenders.com/QUESTIONSANSWERS.html This site also sells a shorter square container that fits on the Vitamix motor base (the Blendtec container does not) if you want an extra, cheaper short container for your Vitamix. Here's the link to the VitaPrep 3 I wound up getting - it's $484 but with no tax outside Indiana, and with an extra offer of 10 lbs. of Big Train coffee blending drinks by submitting a form and a copy of the purchase receipt (in my mind, these made it about the same price as the 5200 @ Costco) - it's the Costco blender with more power, better cooling, higher cycle rating but a shorter warranty due to being a commercial product: http://www.jlhufford.com/ProductD...taprep-3hp Either way, both a great blenders, and the Costco/Vitamix warranty is a great plus as well if that is more appealing. With a little practice you will find yourself eating more healthy foods - we already had a habit of shakes for breakfast but the soups we can make have become great meals a few days a week! |
The best blender ever, I have three at my restaurant....couldn't live without them, I wish I would have paid that amount for them and save a few hundred bucks

Come to think of it, when I was an ignorant idiot in my early 20's, I returned a Craftsman grass-trimmer/edger/blower (all in one tool). But it was only because of my ignorance as a consumer that I; 1. Purchased it. & B. Returned it. I've grown up since, and became a business owner who loathes ignorant customers and will never be one. If I open it, I own it. |
Tempting. Btw, I found this on the internet to answer some people's questions. Thanks to poster DeniseBahadar.
Q: What exactly is the difference between the Vitamix 5200 and the Vitamix 5000 machine? A: A lot! First, the Vitamix 5200 has an all-new container that is made of an all-new material just developed this year by Eastman called Tritan™. Tritan is a copolyester, which is as strong and durable as polycarbonate, yet was formulated without BPA. The container also features improved sound damping during certain operations and improved chemical resistance with regards to cleaning compounds. There is also a new no-drip spout on the new container. Complementing the new container are functional upgrades and exciting designer touches. The new easy-to-remove lid with “flaps” makes for smoother operation and a new twist-off lid plug means that it’s easier—and safer—to add ingredients for recipes like chunky soups. What’s great is that the plug (also made of Tritan) is conveniently marked with measurements. New design elements include an ergonomic comfort-grip handle that not only feels good, but looks good, too. The switches and dial have also been upgraded to a soft-touch look and feel and the label adds a touch of elegance to the classic Vitamix look. At the heart of the Vitamix 5200 is a new and more efficient 2 peak horsepower motor. This motor has been custom-designed—just for Vitamix—to run substantially cooler when processing the heavier-than-normal mixtures such as peanut butter and ice cream, two favorite Vitamix recipes. The Vitamix 5200 comes with some all-new bonus gifts, too. The all-new “Let’s Get Started!” cooking class on DVD is TV cooking show quality with a great hostess. The DVD is really enjoyable to watch, start to finish. The DVD does feature convenient view buttons, however, so you can easily access a particularly recipe you would like to see. The food photos are superb, the recipes are easy and delicious, and the hints really come in handy! The “Getting Started” guide, the companion cookbook to the DVD, is all-new, too—and it’s already getting rave reviews. Again, you get gorgeous photos and super-easy instructions for all the recipes found on the DVD--and more! The “Whole Food Recipes” cookbook has a new look, too, and the many of the recipes have been updated and improved, fresh from the Vitamix test kitchen! What we haven’t changed is the amazing 7-year performance warranty—Vitamix still absolutely guarantees that your Vitamix 5200 will run like new (under normal household conditions) for 7 full years from the date or purchase. We have an amazing customer service that can “troubleshoot” most everything with you, but, in the unlikely event a repair is needed, Vitamix will fix your machine for free if you are still under your 7-year warranty. All repair and assembly operations are located at the Vitamix world headquarters in the USA, in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio. |
We have the model with both 48 & 64 oz containers and use the 48 the most.
The 48 will also fit under most kitchen cabinets when mounted. Vitamix also has a special dry blade and container that some may be interested in. Amazing machine! Worth the extra $ IMHO |

One of the primary reasons I shop at Costco for medium and big ticket items is because of their lifetime satisfaction warranty. I don't feel bad that I've returned the occasional item after having used it a few months and figured out that it really isn't what I wanted/expected. I've done that maybe 3-4 times in the 15 years I've been a member and spent thousands (probably 10's of thousands) there in that time. If they didn't have the return policy, I would certainly be less likely to drive 20 miles to go there for something I could pick up at Lowes or HomeDepot 6 miles away. |

Its fine to hhave an opinion but calling someone an ignorant idiot is a little excessive |
I decided to buy my Vitamix from a road show at a home show. It came with the dry container for $450. Not a bad deal. I wanted to go with Costco but didn't want to wait for the road show to go to Costco.
Vitamix and Blendtec are both awesome. I went with Vitamix because it makes berry bits disappear. |

I bought a Vitamix from Costco in March or so of this year. WOW. It gets used everyday. I am healthier, too. Big fan right here.
|
I refuse to buy another Vitamix...
until my first one wears out. 8+ years of daily use (about 4-5 minutes) on an older model 5000. A few small cracks beginning to develop at the bottom of the jar, and the plastic on the base has discolored a bit due to UV exposure, and that 11.5 amps trips my circuit if the space heater is also running; such minor complains. Tip: add ½ cup of blanched vegetables that you do not like the taste of to your fruit Smoothies. Good for you and can't even taste the icky broccoli. |

Language from the site: 'And you should call us before you purchase a jar with or without the blade if you are buying it to fit on your blender that carriesl a competitors'l brand name. This is because we will not assume any liability if you make a purchase in error.' |
Quote:
Regardless, a best case scenario for your standard household circuit (15A/120V) is not going to produce any more than 1.75HP. I would never use an HP rating as criteria when making a choice. |
Quote:
Thanks for the information about the household circuit specs, did not know that, and I am sure it is a bit YMMV depending on the house and age, but still interesting... |

I've got one.
Its the best appliance in my kitchen. |
Just want to point out that the VitaPrep 3 discussed above ( the commercial 3HP model ) comes with the older standard Polycarb carafe which is not BPA free, which I especially do not want to be using when blending things that are hot.
Vitamix now offers BPA free carafes with their consumer blenders. |

The 5200 is what the Roadshow guys sell at Costco. It has rubberized switches (the 5200C doesn't), larger container, and cookbook is included in the box. The Roadshow guys will try to tell you the 5200 is better (they get commission on the 5200 units that are sold but not the 5200C), and have even tried to talk me into buying the 5200 and returning the 5200c. But it really just comes down to personal preference - container size, and whether rubberized switches matter to you. Other than that, they're exactly the same. And these are the regular Costco prices for these units for the past few years. |

I went over to Costco to try and get one of the Vitamix 5200 for $374.99 and couldn't find any. Is this something that is usually in stock or are they only available during the "road shows"? I have seen them in Costco before here in Houston but only when they are doing the "road shows".
|
Unfortunately there isn't a costco for over a 100miles of me.
But I was happy to see the Vitamix Black Friday Sale - I got the 5200 Super for $499 (that's the one with the 64oz container and 32 oz dry container): http://gotgreensrevolution.com/vi...-code.html |
Can someone verify that this is still going on? Thanks
|
Love mine... can't really say if the price is justified, but damn it's amazing. :)

Question for you experts:
My wife wants a juicer, but we have a general inexpensive one. Is this the same as juicing with emulsion basically because you are blending it all together? I'm a tech guy but I get more and more confused as I dig deeper into juicing/emulsifying/blending with issues like: 1. Oxidation of the juice based on blending/storage 2. Emulsifying/keeping the pulp in the juice 3. Blending/juicing and having chunks etc. Some help would be much appreciated! I'm thinking she needs a blender but we want a juicing emulsifer. Am I correct? |

I have had a Vitamix for 1.5mos now, holy crap, it's 10x better and quieter too! You just can't cheat physics. For a really good smoothie, a machine with a tamper is always going to beat a machine without one. It lets you physically push the food into the blade. You don't have to depend on some wonky blade or 5 sided jar, cuz those only work if you follow their recipes exactly and get the ratio of solids to liquids exactly the way they tested in their labs. Ever since I got the Vitamix, no more chunks. And I don't have to use no where as much liquid as we used to with the BlendTec. |
