Sometimes you have to buy back people if you give them a terrible experience. Amazon did something similar for the Nook deal on Black Friday last year.

missingleak 12-06-2011 12:35 PM

I just got the email from Google Offers about the $20 credit to Newegg.com!

henucu 12-06-2011 12:35 PM

Funny part is, I did the same thing. I couldn't do it with my account and thought it was tied to my account specifically... so I used my wife's Google account to try and buy, too. So, now she also got an email with $20 code. Lucky :woot:

google is all about the customer. they will eat a few bucks to make sure everyone is happy. those people who got this email actually were willing to pay for it but couldn't. I can see their frustration. I refreshed my page every 10 seconds for 15 minutes to finally get it to go through. If it never did I'd have been frustrated and never wanted to use google offeres again.

That's a true statement. When I couldn't get the deal due to the system error, that was my first time trying out Google Offers.

I complaint to my friends about how bad Google Offers was, and how it couldn't even handle the traffic. I was never going to use their service again.

Now with this, I'm incline to be more forgiving and is willing to go back.

Yeah, same here. I'm confused as to how I ended up with this free consolation credit.
I don't recall checking out and didn't even fully register by adding my credit card info.

On the phone with google offers support right now, the CSR is claiming that everyone here is lying and forged the emails, and that nothing other than the original 50k available were sent out.

Definitely did not expect to be blatantly lied to by Google, it's one thing if they can't find a record due to the server screwups and can't do anything for me, but this is an Office Depot level screwup with their CSR.

Time to cross google offers off as one of those sites to ever use, heh.

ETA: Can anyone post some screencaps of the email w/ your codes etc censored? Thanks.

rachelrules 12-06-2011 12:50 PM

angry that I bought one...oh well, thus is life.

bolland99 12-06-2011 12:50 PM

wow I got through 25 times but I think I bailed on another couple of accts where I couldn't get an order thorugh...but didn't get an email from them with the free $20. Maybe they saw that I ordered all those times with the same IP....that's cool and google continues to amaze me how they do things right so often.

z(+)diac 12-06-2011 12:55 PM

Wow, I'm glad Google came through, but I feel a bit cheated considering that I braved through all of the server issues and finally managed to snag the deal. I would have rather received $20 credit for free rather than pay for $40 worth :/

perhaps there is confusion that this is not another "google offer" - it's just an apology email with a coupon code. maybe not all CSRs are tracking it.

JamesDavid 12-06-2011 12:57 PM

So you call google to cry like a b**** that you didn't get a free credit that google is in no way obligated to give you. Then you say you'll never use them again because you got left out. Now you're b****ing to slickdeals. I literally LOL'd in my office. The squeaky wheel doesn't get the grease, it just keeps on squeaking.

You're an idiot, but I'm sure I'm not the first one to tell you this.

You don't call to check for stock or to make sure a deal is legit, if you're supposed to be getting something and aren't, you call. There is no way for anyone to 'get in on this deal' that would be getting screwed over, it's an automated process.

Jay709 12-06-2011 12:59 PM

I received the email from Google and I also bought one using another Google account. I wonder if I can combine these offers?

Agree. Can we return the $40?

LOL...from the looks of Page 1, it seems like they don't have the search feature bug fixed yet.

My domain is on Google Apps, and I couldn't get this offer with that email address. I did manage to create a couple of other Google accounts and cash in, and still got this email at my original, Google Apps email. Throwing a bone to all of us who have Google Apps but can't use so many other Google features...

Eh, I'm not upset that I'm not getting the credit, I'm upset that the CSR decided to lie to me and say that everyone who's claiming to have gotten it is lying and forged emails as their 'proof'.
Telling me "Hey, we can't find a record of your attempt, so we won't be able to send this to you, sorry." would have been fine, I just don't appreciate it when a company thinks it's acceptable to piss on my head and tell me it's raining.

AlanTheWoo 12-06-2011 01:05 PM

Dammit, I tried to get one, but my CC declined for whatever reason.

I went back & forth like 3 times with Google Offers and on the third try I get a "sorry, sold out" message.

Still nothing for me.

People are getting too self-entitled these days. You missed the deal and hear that SOME people are getting $20 as compensation, so you decide to EXPECT that compensation as well. If Google doesn't give you $20 for free, you become upset at Google and vow to never use them again. If I were Google, I wouldn't want you as a customer.

boss: will you work for 8 hours for $1000?
worker 1: abso-fricking-lutely!
boss: ok, who will work 4 hours for $1000?
worker 2: me!
worker 1: wtf?

momomchine 12-06-2011 01:10 PM

I'm OK with not getting this...so long as they offer the $20 for $40 again!

jamex 12-06-2011 01:13 PM

I'm unsubscribing from Google Offers after I type this.

BigBamboozler 12-06-2011 01:14 PM

Aww, I didn't get the free $20 Newegg credit but they did allow me to stack 4 in one order so I'm fine with that.

thisisme08 12-06-2011 01:14 PM

Google is just trying to save face. It was their launch. For a lot of people, it was their first time using the Google Offers service.

First time impression means everything.

There was no way I was going to use Google Offers again any time soon. To me it just couldn't even handle the traffic = bad service.

Now, I accept their $20 apology and I'll over look what happened the first time. They didn't have to do it, but they did it to make people who had a bad first impression to be happy again.

Just good business.

SlowJim 12-06-2011 01:17 PM

lundc 12-06-2011 01:19 PM

Google Offers got class! :woot:

dragonkid 12-06-2011 01:19 PM

They need to give at least $10 credit for those who spend 10 minutes to get on the deal >_<. Google Offers is worse than Living Social.

PearlRose86 12-06-2011 01:19 PM

What an unexpected surprise.

I was trying to buy the deal in Firefox on one account, but I kept getting timed out. I moved to another browser and eventually bought the deal, but I was already logged into a different account when I opened up the offer, so I decided not to bother logging back in and back out.

The other account that tried to order the deal at first just got the free credit, so yay! That was really nice of Google. :)

Yes, because google accidentally sent these out, and now all the google employees are going to take them for themselves and sell them on craigslist for 30 dollars.

SlickDealio 12-06-2011 01:28 PM

The guy trying to boycott is ridiculous of course. But apparently you don`t really understand google`s business concept. They give nothing away for free. Everytime you use it, it is at the expense of your privacy. If you consider you`re privacy to be worth nothing, then of course you can also consider their services to be free too :D
Btw: I`m using all of the services you mentioned except for Google+

MrVCU 12-06-2011 01:30 PM

Haha....I got 3 of the 20-for-40 deals AND I just got this one.

Shweet!!!

The reason I got this one is because I tried to buy the newegg deal with my student email account (which is a form of google account). When I tried to purchase it said Google Offers isn't available for my account type. So I just ordered with my other 3 accounts.

I go to check my student email and the 20 credit email is there. Thank You Google.

Reading comprehension is your friend here, firstnamefirstname. I'm not boycotting google, I just won't use /google offers/ again, because their CSR felt that lies and stories he just pulled out of his ass were better than telling me "I don't know, sorry".

But hey, don't let the truth get in your way of your little speech there, maybe you should see if GO or Office Depot is hiring, you're the perfect candidate.

Really? It will be a sad day when they actually stop deals like this because of greedy idiots who tried to get 6 different codes and stuff.

I mean why stop at getting 6 codes. Start demanding free merchandise everywhere.

You either got in on the deal or not. There will always be an issue when trying to purchase a great value like that. It's like trying to be first in line at Best Buy during black Friday.

I'd have been perfectly fine with him telling me that he didn't know - that's not what he did. He said that it was all a hoax, no such emails were ever sent out, and that anything I saw anywhere online saying otherwise was a forgery.

theory: we all know that their service was down that day, maybe your order was placed after their limit exceeded so they had to cancel. this is different than those who tried in time, but couldn't get the purchase due to server error; maybe google even included these same people in their limit.

i personally feel it is alright to ask & find out what their explanation is, maybe google will compensate appropriately. without knowing the truth, it's just flat out wrong to demand your $$ b/c you "feel" you deserve compensation.

AznCracker 12-06-2011 02:00 PM

I got an email on the 30th or maybe the 1st confirming my purchase. It said I would be receiving another email with a code or something. Still haven't received it. Has anyone else received it? I think it's great they gave out the free coupons, but I think it's shitty that those who failed to jump in on time get to use their twenty buh before I do.

You can find the code in your google wallet.

According to the thread, stacking was not allowed and resulted with cancelled orders. I'm not sure if someone was actually successful stacking, however, you can make use of multiple codes by different purchases using another household members account.

Seriously. When I started using Slickdeals I was making about $18k per year. Now I make 5x that. Slickdeals has helped me save a lot of money over the years and allowed me to live above my means. If/when I become a millionaire, I'll still slickdeal.

go ahead and ask, YMMV.:look:

No I was wondering who to ask. I don't care about the trolls getting mad. I didn't even try to buy 6, so not sure where that came from but it says "If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to respond to this email." So I was wondering what email address it came from so I can respond to it saying I didn't get one.

My fav is the guy who posted he won't use google ever again.... if by that you mean until you log back onto the internet to check your FREE Gmail, use Googles FREE search engine, use Googles FREE shopping comparison tool, maybe connect with friends/associates on Googles FREE Google+ social network...

At the END OF THE DAY "EVERYONE" who uses the internet gets something FREE from Google...

If you are going to boycott Google you should prolly toss your phone, computer, tablet, etc into a fire pit...

Google isn't really free but you wouldn't really understand it anyways. Ignorance is bliss.

metubedeal 12-06-2011 02:32 PM

I got two. One for an account I tried to purchase but failed due to google's server issues.

And another one that I did not use at all, but it still credit me.

I will try to stack both code with a new customer discount code if I can find some Christmas deal.

Go here:
https://www.google.com/offers

Click My Account (middle-right side) -> My Offers. That should pull up "Redeemable" under My Offers Status and show you:
"NEWEGG.COM

Click the "View and Print" button to see your code.

Based on some of the posts in this thread, I feel like every Google Offers OP moving forward should quote the fine print in big bold letters.

"After redemption period, all vouchers may be refundable or redeemable for paid amount."

Probably not, based on previous experience for the codes. They probably also don't stack with the original GO codes. Personally I wouldn't risk it - unlike with the GO, they're doing this out of the goodness of their heart (or for the goodness of their wallet) - they'd have no obligation to give you anything for your coupon if it got canceled.

Ceno82 12-06-2011 02:46 PM

Considering you had to be one of the 50,000 to be lucky enough to get into the offer, I got denied the chance to purchase thanks to the SD effect = 50,000 sold out in less then 3 hours... How is this even a Slickdeal? No one else can get it = Lame.

No. One. Cares.

I had my order cancelled but I did not get a coupon :( I called them and they have forwarded it to a product specialist or something.

Hi xxxx,

Thank you for contacting us about the Newegg Google Offer. I'm sorry to
hear that you were unable to purchase the deal. We sent a voucher to
customers who experienced an error in their final stage of checkout.

I'm very sorry for your disappointment. This deal was popular and sold out
very quickly.

Please let me know if you have any more questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Kristina
The Google Offers Team

theGr81 12-06-2011 03:02 PM

way to go google!

happy for everyone who missed out on the GO deal and was able to get this one. but im happy i was able to get 3 of the GCs so hopefully everybody wins!

redneck 12-06-2011 03:03 PM

I didn't get the make up offer... ...I unsubscribed after getting blown off by a CSR over the first round debacle. Maybe any attention (good or bad) is a good thing for google offers? Who knows?

irvington 12-06-2011 03:04 PM

I watched the ticker go from get the deal to expired before I could put in my card info. (like a half hour after deal opened.

I e-mailed the "google offers team" immediately after that hoping they would block some of the people who ordered 50 of them and send me one.

Because I didn't put in my credit card on an "expired" deal you guys got the deal, but the google offers team said tough luck to me.

Not a good experience. I use google everything voice, android, gmail, chrome, music, +plus, etc. wont be using google offers. Not their fault that some greedy pigs ordered an obscene amount to make a profit, but disappointing they didn't have these issues ironed out ahead of time so the benefits could get to actual customers.

Freak4Dell 12-06-2011 03:09 PM

The people complaining that they didn't get an offer that Google didn't have to send out in the first place crack me up.

irvington 12-06-2011 03:16 PM

^^ I complained because there would have been offers if people didn't abuse it. i complained because google should have had something in place to assure the same credit card couldn't purchase 30 cards. Do i expect something now? no. Just would be nice to be told sorry we kinda F'd up and we'll fix the issue in the future.

I've got a few slick deals and I never ordered an obscene amount of anything so more people could benefit during the holidays. I've ordered 2 or 3 of something on SD but never tried to exhaust the inventory.

lol lets not exaggerate, I was able to get in on this deal over 50minutes after the deal started; I also leisurely entered my credit card information.

What does your "use google for everything" even suppose to mean? Google is LETTING YOU use all of that for FREE. Google doesn't owe you anything, so get over yourself.

Freak4Dell 12-06-2011 03:21 PM

I don't like the people who buy up a ton of the good deals, either, but at the end of the day, it's their option to do so, because it's the retailer's option to let them. If I ran one of those sites, I probably would not care less if somebody bought up 50 of them. Me getting paid is all that matters, and as long as everybody's money is worth the same, I don't care who is giving it to me. Businesses aren't there to help people play nice with each other...they're there to make money.

Frankly, I think it's awesome of Google to do this, because it means that they're taking a loss to try and please some customers. They didn't have to this at all.

I'm so jealous because I've been a legit Newegg shopper for a very long time now and I have a preferred account.
