In case anyone is wondering, it's the pink version and not the pro (black color) version.

For info on how to put Linux on the device go here [archlinuxarm.org] It is not as hard as it sounds.
These devices make great little file servers, media servers, torrent clients,... since they are low power and thus can run 24/7. |

I was considering this a while ago when it was twice as expensive- how reliably does this stream movies?
Could I just plop a bunch of .vob files onto my hard drive and be good to go? |
How good is this to share files on the internet if your ISP is 10Mbps down and 1.2Mbps upload?
Do the files actually buffer at the pogoplug website? |
I prefer using Optware over modifying the boot loader to run another version of Linux (it's already running Linux!):
http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/M...gComputers This allows you to keep the main Pogoplug functionality working as well. |

Not great but it will get the job (of sharing) done. And no they don't buffer on the website (unless the files are in the Pogo cloud section). Stuff stored on this device will be pulled directly from the device when accessed. |
Yeah, if you are interested in getting debian on this model, be very careful. This is not the same pink model that can be hacked in the past. I think it was E-02 model that can be hacked with jeff's debian squeeze. Maybe you can hack these, I'm not sure, you can't use jeff's dockstar install to do it, the B01 model uses a completely different chipset. So check pogo B01 debian to see if it has been hacked yet and how difficult it is to do.
If it was pogo E-02 model for 24.99 , it would be good deal. :) |
Anyone know how NTFS works with the standard firmware? I've heard some horrible read/write speeds on certain versions. I'd like to have this replace a standard desktop that runs 24/7.

nevermind. Found my answer for those interested: http://www.pogoplugged |
same price in amazon too...

can anyone who's using this say what sort of transfer speeds they have when writing/reading from a drive connected to it? (it, from a local network not via the internet/pogoplug 'software') |

Does this model support upnp streaming? It looks like the pro/black one does, but I can't find the info on this. Hoping to hook a hard drive to this, and upnp stream to my wd media player / seagate theater+.

Non-existent customer support for anything. You all have been warned.

Slow unreliable music play back.
Any rumors of printing through it are just rumors. I bought two with high hopes :-( |
Thx op.
In 4 1 for Debian, hopefully this has more jounce than Dockstar. |

Thanks OP! In for 1 for tinkering :)

what are the advantages of switching this debian?

Does anyone know the specs on these things ? I still think the PogoPlug Pro with Wifi for 30 bucks was a better deal..sadly I didn't get to it in time. |

Which model do I need to get Sabnzbd (usenet client) up and running on?
|
Could one of you knowledgeable in linux/debian clear this up and summarize what it can do?
I've read through this thread twice and am still not sure. (Is it even possible? is it the compatible version? J&R states that it is b-01) |

I found this, http://lifehacker.com/5637092/tur...web-server this isn't what I would do to run transmission on the pogoplug, right? hmm... |

Is there an extra JR promo today? It knocked an extra $5 off my order. No codes. And again on a second order.
Two Pogoplugs for $20 each. Nerd Christmas. |

EDIT: nvm, I logged into friends with benefits and it dropped to $20! thanks spiralbloo, you just pushed me over the fence to buy one! (it only seems to work for one per order - if I try to order two in one order, I have a total of $45) |
thanks got one too... 19.99 seems to be a good price. This seems to have sata port inside... will play around with it.
|
Got one of these late last night for $20 with free shipping.
|
can it be used with WDTV for music and movies?

B01 and P21 models
Can anyone explain the difference between the Pogo B01 (pink) and P21 (black) models? Pogoplug.com is completely useless. Want to know if it's worth the $7 to buy the P21 on buy.com. Thanks
|
What linux would you all be installing on pink b-01 pogo? I cannot seem to find exact info.

Should be able to run debian linux and sazbnzbd. But if it's like my dockstar, lack of ram will make sabnzbd super slow. Good deal none the less.

Thank you OP!
I have a Dockstar running debian with FluxBox. I got around the video card limitation with VNC. The Pogoplug will be fun! |

Just received my pogo-b01.
Flashed with Arch-linux, then squeezPlug (debian). Since my other tow dockstar are running debian, I'm a bit more familiar with debian than arch. got Samba, plowshare running. Everything works good except feel a bit slow, dual-core 700mzh vs single-core 1.2ghz on dockstar. Samba read around 15MB/s write at 5MB/s on a NTFS portable HD. Write speed should be improved on Ext2 or Ext3. Thinking to get another one or two. |

I finally got a chance to mess with mine. Installed Arch Linux and Samba, but I'm having trouble logging into it via Windows 7 vs. SSH. I want to use this as a NAS. |
Has anyone got this to run SABnzbd and Sickbeard?
