For info on how to put Linux on the device go here [archlinuxarm.org] It is not as hard as it sounds.

These devices make great little file servers, media servers, torrent clients,... since they are low power and thus can run 24/7.

If you put Jeff's uboot on it, it will likely brick it, as i believe these use different hardware than the older ones.

Will not brick the pink one. I have one for about a year now.

pso 12-09-2011 01:00 PM

I was considering this a while ago when it was twice as expensive- how reliably does this stream movies?

Could I just plop a bunch of .vob files onto my hard drive and be good to go?

hapollo 12-09-2011 01:14 PM

How good is this to share files on the internet if your ISP is 10Mbps down and 1.2Mbps upload?

Do the files actually buffer at the pogoplug website?

RaytheonLiszt 12-09-2011 01:15 PM

I prefer using Optware over modifying the boot loader to run another version of Linux (it's already running Linux!):

http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/M...gComputers

This allows you to keep the main Pogoplug functionality working as well.

Not great but it will get the job (of sharing) done.

And no they don't buffer on the website (unless the files are in the Pogo cloud section). Stuff stored on this device will be pulled directly from the device when accessed.

richman 12-09-2011 01:19 PM

Yeah, if you are interested in getting debian on this model, be very careful. This is not the same pink model that can be hacked in the past. I think it was E-02 model that can be hacked with jeff's debian squeeze. Maybe you can hack these, I'm not sure, you can't use jeff's dockstar install to do it, the B01 model uses a completely different chipset. So check pogo B01 debian to see if it has been hacked yet and how difficult it is to do.

If it was pogo E-02 model for 24.99 , it would be good deal. :)

jakenovak 12-09-2011 01:23 PM

Anyone know how NTFS works with the standard firmware? I've heard some horrible read/write speeds on certain versions. I'd like to have this replace a standard desktop that runs 24/7.

Thanks then it seems there isn't much difference between this and the old lnksys NSLU2 for file access except gigbit speed which is meaningless when accessed through the internet, right?

nevermind. Found my answer for those interested:

Actually, you can put Debian on it. Just follow the instructions provided in: http://archlinuxarm.org/forum/vie...523#p10523. I tried it out and it indeed works. I even tried to install Asterisk 1.8 on it without problem.

See my previous post. Debian can be installed on the new ones with armv6 processors, i.e. B01, Pro and etc., and not too difficult.

Does this model support upnp streaming? It looks like the pro/black one does, but I can't find the info on this. Hoping to hook a hard drive to this, and upnp stream to my wd media player / seagate theater+.

In theory, attached to a giga switch, it should be very fast locally and handle any SATA real world bandwidth. It's comes down to being bottlenecked by USB 2.0 bandwidth.

I saw on the pogoplugged forums a guy named "Oddballhero" (I think) who successfully tapped into the SATA connector inside the pogoplug (he had to do some soldering of course), he said the speeds were *very* good. Would be interesting to try one day hah

It's interesting that there is even a SATA connection inside when the 4 external connectors are all USB.

Just because the color is the same does not mean the inside is the same. Is your model number the same as this one? B01 ...probably not.

You can install all sorts of Linux programs, such as Transmission to download bit-torrent files, run a webserver etc.. it basically becomes a tiny linux server. :D

Does anyone know the specs on these things ? I still think the PogoPlug Pro with Wifi for 30 bucks was a better deal..sadly I didn't get to it in time.

dnmy56 12-09-2011 08:45 PM

According to this post http://archlinuxarm.org/forum/vie...=29&t=1194, B-01 is ARMv6...

I've read through this thread twice and am still not sure. (Is it even possible? is it the compatible version? J&R states that it is b-01)

I found this,

this isn't what I would do to run transmission on the pogoplug, right? hmm...

Not necessary. As far as I recall, it has a dual core 700 MHz ARM. The Dockstar has a 1200MHz single core. It will be slower than Dockstar unless the program can take full advantage of the dual core ARM.

Is there an extra JR promo today? It knocked an extra $5 off my order. No codes. And again on a second order.

Two Pogoplugs for $20 each. Nerd Christmas.

when did you see the $5 off? I've got it in my cart and so far, no discount :(

EDIT: nvm, I logged into friends with benefits and it dropped to $20! thanks spiralbloo, you just pushed me over the fence to buy one! (it only seems to work for one per order - if I try to order two in one order, I have a total of $45)

thanks got one too... 19.99 seems to be a good price. This seems to have sata port inside... will play around with it.

B01 and P21 models

Can anyone explain the difference between the Pogo B01 (pink) and P21 (black) models? Pogoplug.com is completely useless. Want to know if it's worth the $7 to buy the P21 on buy.com. Thanks

What linux would you all be installing on pink b-01 pogo? I cannot seem to find exact info.

I couldn't find anything definitive that indicates any difference between these two other than color. I went with the B01 for $8 cheaper. Both of these models are v3, and according to http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms...provideov3 have identical hardware. Only the Pro black have mini-pcie and wireless.

apple75 12-13-2011 08:41 PM

Should be able to run debian linux and sazbnzbd. But if it's like my dockstar, lack of ram will make sabnzbd super slow. Good deal none the less.

Just received my pogo-b01.
Flashed with Arch-linux, then squeezPlug (debian).
Since my other tow dockstar are running debian, I'm a bit more familiar with debian than arch.
got Samba, plowshare running.
Everything works good except feel a bit slow, dual-core 700mzh vs single-core 1.2ghz on dockstar.
Samba read around 15MB/s write at 5MB/s on a NTFS portable HD. Write speed should be improved on Ext2 or Ext3.
Thinking to get another one or two.
