Thanks, good deal on this drive.

vortican 12-15-2011 11:33 AM

Best price you're gonna get for a while on one of the best drives out there. Buy it.

deweyhewson 12-15-2011 11:37 AM

I'm glad I picked up two of these for $100 just before the flooding in Thailand destroyed the market. Personally, my opinion is that unless you must have a new hard drive right now, wait 3 months for things to settle down and you can actually pay a fair price for one.

g3ck1 12-15-2011 11:58 AM

Is this better or the Seagate Barracuda Green 5900rpm 2TB for $110 at microcenter. Honest question.

I agree it will take at minimum 3 months for prices to drop naturally again (could be a few sales here and there too between now and then like this one). I don't expect them to return to the same pre-flood levels until probably October next year.

But this is a good deal, bonus if you have a $20 off $40 code making it $89.99 out of pocket.

This is the better option as a main drive for OS, apps, games, etc. A Barracuda Green 2TB at 5900RPM would probably be better for storage.

mbrady16 12-15-2011 01:00 PM

Good deal OP, especially considering the competition. Thanks.

webfabric 12-15-2011 01:27 PM

nvm found it :)

Ripper3785 12-15-2011 01:53 PM

Ordered two. Thanks OP. Last item I needed for my new PC build. While not the best price it's EVER been, given the circumstances it is pretty fair.

ashesofthewake 12-15-2011 10:23 PM

Finally decided to bite the bullet and go for 1 for my brother's christmas build even though I bought this drive for myself in August for $50. As far as current prices go, good deal. Thanks again OP.

halogod2 12-15-2011 11:02 PM

I bought 2 of these a year ago. I only paid around $45 each.

lawchingto 12-15-2011 11:04 PM

im in a market for a 3tb, it was gonna drop below 100bucks, then they got flooded. not gonna drop below 100bucks for like a year.

anekin007 12-16-2011 12:33 AM

Prices won't be back to normal until 2013.

Caleo 12-16-2011 12:41 AM

I'm really bummed @ the whole thailand flood thing... I was looking to get a new hard drive once I started working again & had some money in hand, and now that I do.. hard drives are significantly more expensive.

Honestly, when I looked at newegg (without having known about the flooding) a while back, I couldn't believe what I saw.. hard drives at prices 200-300% of what they used to be.

It's like 2007's hard drive prices came back to say hello. I was in complete & utter disbelief that something could happen to prices like that.

Thank you for telling us the price you paid for it. We know it was cheaper months ago.

I'm also amazed at all the people thumbing down this thread because they didn't realize there was a natural disaster in Thailand and all the hard drive prices are ridiculous inflated.

This is a great deal, considering prices won't be normal until at least Q3 2012 or early 2013.

mluy 12-16-2011 01:11 AM

Good price for the drive. 3.0 Gb/s is quite enough.

yapchagi 12-16-2011 01:25 AM

wow that's really expensive. I'm glad I bought it when it was $59.99 at Micro Center.
Thai flooding thing sucks. really.

TeeD 12-16-2011 01:33 AM

I just cannot bring myself to bite the bullet after getting this for 55 a year ago.

+1 ... just isn't right. Yes, Yes, i know the floods, but its taking advantage I reckon. Hold tight folks, they will return to normal....soon....

acubsfan 12-16-2011 09:07 AM

Whatever the reason truly is...floods or coporations taking advantage of the situation. The bottom line is that benchmarked against all available prices for this hard drive, this is a great deal. Also note that macmall [macmall.com] dropped the price to about the same ($108.99 so a buck cheaper).

I had a 20 off 40 still for newegg so I jumped on it. You won't touch this drive anywhere for a while at a price of 89.99.

You're absolutely right about this price, it's great in a rough hdd market. Also as far as these current hdd prices are concerned, the flood is a perfect opportunity for Seagate to price gouge, how can they ever pass up this opportunity? While it is true WD faced floods, Seagate was untouched.

Foxbat 12-17-2011 08:30 AM

Thanks for the deal though, I have been lazy to upgrade my computer, but figured a new harddrive and a switch to Windows 7 would kickstart the process.

Was bummed I missed out on the 1TB "Green" drive two days ago, but this deal is so much better! I know they're more expensive now, but I wanted the warm cushy feeling of knowing I at least got a deal relative to reality, not three months ago :)

Why did this get TD? This price is the sad reality of hard drives right now, but as far as I know this is a top deal.

PV9685 12-20-2011 08:14 PM

Wow, now is not the time to buy hard drives guys.. this should be like $50 by now! Stupid floods!

Great drive, I have one in this computer right now... but I paid like $55 like a year ago lol

jwilson32 12-20-2011 08:17 PM

I agree... The price on all HD's suck right now. From what I've been told, the price's wont be coming down for 3-6 months... From what I can see, this is a pretty good deal for a HD that has good specs/reviews...

diskwzrd 12-20-2011 08:29 PM

Note that this is the 7200RPM model and not the usual 5400RPM model which is what you would normally find on sale for the $50-$60 range... Still a high price but not as terrible as most people would probably think based on the current HD scarcity...

Ya, I meant to include that in the title. Is there any way to edit it?

nobama 12-20-2011 08:36 PM

If you like Samsung drives and that particular model, then get 'em before they're gone for good. Seagate bought Samsung's HD division....

zikaru 12-20-2011 08:38 PM

It's a great drive- and a steal at this price especially since it's been sitting at $150 for a while.

lawchingto 12-20-2011 08:52 PM

its supply and demand, people should hold off from buying any hard drives unless you have to, then the price will come down faster. if u guys keeping buying it, then they will only drop the price slower.

lightfoot3b 12-20-2011 09:00 PM

500GB units have been on sale for around 60 a few times. I guess as far as 1TB goes, this is good. But at this price I'm buying a complete computer refurb for $220-300 and pulling the drive and selling the computer later or having a spare.
