I picked up a MC965ll/a Macbook Air 13" (newest model) and the breakdown is:

=1011.49 Plus tax (88.51) so $1106.00 Out the door, after 6 dollars CA waste fee.

I'm not a mac user AT ALL, i just like the way this thing looks, and well for the first time in my I can afford one so I went for it...Please let me know if this was a good deal, their return policy is 14 days :P

Since OP mentioned abt bestbuy's return policy...i am thinking he is not averse to returning the product if he thinks its not a good deal....esp since a refresh of the line is in the works...atleast i wud wait for couple more months instead of pulling in the trigger now....

Well someone smart enough to have a six figure salary can figure out this is a bad deal. You are saving $128 for a used item.........buy it NEW from Amazon

It's a good price for the model, even if it is a open-boxed item. Retail on these are $1300.
However, if you want a new unit, the best price that I can find is $1,210.22 from MacMall. For me, Amazon charges 9.5% tax, so MacMall without tax is the best option.

Thanks for the heads up. I am going to head over tomorrow to take a look at what my local store has. I looked into purchasing an open box in October but decided to wait. I am new to Apple products, too -- but I just bought an iPhone 4S and LOVE it! I do have a question....is there any way to know in the store if you are first to register an open box with Apple? Did you buy AppleCare?

How did you get the additional $100 off?? I know there was a coupon a few weeks back for OB items at BB, but I'm curious how you got it. Did they just offer it to you (unlikely), was there a coupon or ad posted for the additional $100 off?

There is a sign posted for the add'l 100 off, the sign is in the cage where the computers are, i believe there is 50 off open box ipad and 25 off open box ipod as well.

You got a very good deal on a great laptop! I did the same thing a month ago or so. I bought a total of open box 4 Mac laptops and kept 2 that I liked best. The other 2 I sold I made a little profit on. One of them I used for 2 moths before selling it. You could probably sell this laptop for about $1190 right now on CL.
The ones I bought were like new, one had only 1 battery cycle. The warranty covers it from the day of your purchase. In one case I had to email Apple the copy of my Best Buy receipt and they made the warranty effective the day I bought it.
This is also my 1st Mac and I love it. No buyer's remorse here.
Those who tell you this was a crappy deal should let you know where you can buy this laptop for the same price with a full 12 month warranty.

Best deal is to buy it from B&H photo. They have it for $1235 with no tax for most of us and free shipping. The good thing though is that if you buy AppleCare when you buy the Macbook, you get it for $95. Can't beat AppleCare for $95 on top of a competitive price that has no tax. Just my 2c anyways.

I got an open box macbook pro 2.4ghz i5 today with 500GB hard drive and 4GB ram for $850 plus tax. They had this one as open box and I got 10% off lowest price sold then another $100 off for coupon. Nice machine for the price.

What comes with the laptop? Everything you would get if you went to the apple store...ie box, power cord, software...etc

Mine was a returned item (from before the extended holiday return policy, so it had to have been returned within 14 days), and everything was included in the box. The booklet and cloth were actually still wrapped in the original wrapping :)

Came with everything that ordinarily came in the box. Wall charger, computer, paperwork. I booted it up. I also checked when it was registered with Apple and it was only out of the store for about a week or so. It appears to be in mint condition.

P.S. Had a macbook which I traded into best buy which allowed me to get a Macbook air. Did not love the air, only because of HD constraints. It is a great machine (really nice physically) but until they increase the SSD size it is limiting. So I am switching it for the macbook pro. So I got the pro, with slightly better specs than the air, for about $200 cheaper. Nice deal.

Sounds about the same as mine. In excellent condition. Booklet still in plastic, etc. the macbook itself appears to be in perfect condition. No scratches, etc.

I bought an open box macbook today. [Edit Macbook Pro (MBP) 13"] It is $1,138 at Best Buy new. This is close to the price on Amazon, etc. with no tax for most. However, I got it for $850 + Tax. That is worth the difference for a mint condition open box. I checked it thoroughly and it is in perfect condition. So for me the savings was well worth it. Even with tax it is a saving of over $200 or 20%.

hows the one year warranty from Apple?

i feel like apple has one of the best warranty service. I have never had a single complaint with them, and it is always fast. Usually send out chargers and ipod with 1-day shipping. This is from an objective consumer.

If it has been registered then you can submit proof that you just bought it and they will reset the warranty to one year from the date you bought it. I have done it, it works perfectly.

ended up calling and finding a 13-inch MacBook pro a little farther out then I wanted to go but for $799 before tax it was totally worth it...not the newest one but the one right before...i5, 4gb ram, 320gb HDD, etc....
