Class 4 to save someone from clicking the link to find out.

Not as hot as the Fry's Samsung Class 10 micro SD for the same price from the other day but usually the sandisk under rate their cards.

I always thought class 10 was faster than class 4, but that's not necessarily the case.

The class refers to the speed of sequential read/writes, which tends to be inversely related to the speed of random read/writes (for technical reasons no one probably wants to read). The fastest read/write operations for small files are the class 4 cards.

If you're curious to see some benchmarks and deeper analysis, check out this thread on XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/s...?t=1150369

TL;DR: For a digital camera, class 10 is best. For everything else, you probably want a class 4.

Sweet, I almost pulled the trigger on this last night combo'd with the infrared thermometer to use my google offer gift card.

Even sweeter today!

I completely disagree... On a smart phone, and especially on my Rockbox MP3 2 and 4 absolutely crawl... After putting a class 10 into my MP3 I can never go back to class 4.

If you bought it from the Egg people, they will probably refund you the difference if you call them and ask nicely. They always did for me in such cases. ;)

I SPECIFICALLY ordered a class 4 32 gig card from Adorama because the Kodak movie camera that I purchased for someone has had difficulty with faster-rated cards (go figure).

What about for a phone or a tablet? I mean if you store media files on them to be consumed, then sequential r/w is important no?

He is actually correct. Just tested this.

When loading Android on SD card for Nook Color, the Sandisk class 4 micros are far and away the best. I was having serious lag issues with Kingston and Patriot.

Look at this review. Notice how the Sandisk Class 4 is an order of magnitude faster. It's perfect for small read and writes. Not for large files though.

Just FYI -- I made this ^ exact purchase during the sale the OP mentioned (on the 19th, with shoprunner). Tracking info says it's set to arrive today -- 9 days later. I'm sure the holidays were a factor, and it could have been a shipping SNAFU, but still... 2days != 9days...

Good deal tho, might get another one.

vietsd 12-28-2011 08:59 AM

Most people want to put movies, music, or pictures on these cards, so they'll benefit from the higher class speeds of other cards. But for running Android on your Nook Color, this is probably one of the best cards.

wiggerbrand 12-28-2011 09:13 AM

Is this SanDisk a better card than this Team one?

I believe that the card being sold in this thread is not the Sandisk Mobile Ultra that shows superior performance.

The sale card is the "regular" version, which actually ranked at the bottom for random 512k writes.

The tests were also for various sized (8-32gb) cards, which may differ from this 32gb card on sale.

No i agree. The one in this thread is not the Ultra, but you aren't reading that article correctly.

In the 4k write, the card being sold here is over 100 times faster than many of the class 10 cards in the article

This card being sold is the same as SanDisk Class 4 8GB. It's leaps and bounds faster in the small writes. Hence why in CM7 this card will be amazing. I could barely use the Nook Color with CM7 on the patriot card. It's perfect on the Sandisk Class 4.

Okay, you guys need to stop misinforming people. Notice how that Sankdisk Class 4 is the Ultra Mobile version that goes for around $70 on average which is NOT the same Sandisk that is currently on Sale. The one currently on sale is at the bottom of the benchmark.

Read the tomshardware article

Look at the page I linked. Look at the last 2 graphs. The class 4 dominates in the 4k writes. The non-Ultra version

Literally 100 times faster in 4k write

In the big reads and writes this thing is slow I agree. It's much better for something like installing android on. I do not recommend this drive for digital cameras.

End of discussion. I can't help you read or understand.
