The Deluxe version has all you need for being self employed with business income. Some bad information lower in the thread.

VaporChemist 01-01-2012 07:24 PM

Don't forget 5% of with Target CC! Nice find!

Carnivore 01-01-2012 07:31 PM

The one at Amazon includes E-file. Does Target's?

whoopdaddy 01-01-2012 08:05 PM

Yes, it's the same version as Amazon, and all versions seem to include 5 FEDERAL efile's, STATE efile is 19.95 per state return.

inventix1136 01-01-2012 08:23 PM

Thanks. This is so much better than the online version that another post mentioned because you control the data instead of a corporation that then can do anything it wants with it. Will definitely buy a copy...

impelus 01-01-2012 09:01 PM

If you don't need state. $27 at Amazon and price likely to go down. I got it for $25.99 yesterday and $17.99 last year.

http://www.amazon.com/Block-Home-...383&sr=8-3

mtbmtb01 01-01-2012 09:05 PM

not bad, looks like last year from amazon:
Order Placed: December 30, 2010
Order Total: $27.99
for the same software. this isn't too bad except i will have to pay tax.

nowlen 01-01-2012 09:46 PM

I just looked - I paid 29.99 from Amazon on December 2, 2011 - Same exact item (via product link) is now $36. So while this was not a slickdeal a month ago, it is now!

Moral of post: Buy your tax software early.

cjcain 01-01-2012 10:23 PM

If you received a copy of the H&R Block At Home CD like I do every year, they have a $10 rebate coupon that can be used at Target (or several other stores through 4/15/12) Valid on Deluxe, Premium, or Business. I just received mine a week or 2 ago.

flapjabby 01-01-2012 10:27 PM

last year's $0.01 deal at ca.com was the best, but it looks like this year you have to buy their antivirus for $29.99 to get free HR Deluxe (and it doesn't appear to include state):

hmongsda 01-01-2012 10:47 PM

How is this versus tubro tax?

GeorgeMcFly 01-01-2012 11:09 PM

I have to install some software to print the coupon? Lame.

I agree -best deal for One CENT, I had forgotten to cancel my membership and I was charged after the promo, but they promptly removed it after I requested cancellation.

Hopefully, they''ll have it @ Dollar Tree again or somewhere cheaper by Jan.15th!

Tubro? Is that the Hood version?

If as in past years, it does not import Fidelity Investments data online. Yo!

Yup. But there are some good coupons on Target at times.

mtl32581 01-02-2012 01:33 AM

Just wait until the middle of Feb and they basically give this away. All you tax forms aren't available until the end of January.

reggiefl 01-02-2012 08:40 AM

advice here... WAIT .... good deals on Tax software are coming your way, mid January... in the meantime gather all of your forms, receipts, etc..

whoopdaddy 01-02-2012 10:00 AM

It won't go much lower than this price today. Last year I bought it on March 20th for 26.99 at amazon.com. I'm going to get my taxes done early, less stress. There isn't a better deal out there.

Lots of the other deal websites have picked up on this deal and have published it as well now. They must read slickdeals, hahaha.

Superorb 01-02-2012 10:27 AM

This year I will be filing jointly, plus we moved fro one taxed state to another. I'm also self employed. Taxes will be an utter PITA this year.

Does this version have the Schedule C forms or do I need a more expensive version?

No, you will neet Premium, or Premium/Business
http://www.hrblock.com/tax-software/index.html

The 2 different states is no problem, did that a couple years ago with Taxcut.
But you will have to buy the extra state module.

liamtoh1 01-02-2012 10:45 AM

Add a rebate form for $10, making the software $19 AR and AC. Reps to mikk1 from FW.

Please see the wiki for the rebate form

If you install the tax software on two different computers, you can load a different state module on each computer.

Oh great, more fees. One of the only things I missed about living in FL was that there was no state income tax.

It will let you do 1 state on one PC, save it, then do another state on another PC?

If you use the e-file they still get a copy of all your data anyhow.

Yes. At least previous versions of the program did. It has been a few years since I had to file two different state returns for the same tax year. The software did allow one state download per installation of the federal tax software. So, you could install the federal program on two different computers, one state software on one computer, and a different state software on the other computer. You just couldn't have both states on the same computer without paying for an extra state software download.

...and with Target Redcard 5% off it'll become about $18 AR (added about fifty cents for the stamp). I'll be surprised if there's eventually an easy-to-obtain lower price for a copy of Federal + State.

WhipperSnapper 01-02-2012 05:47 PM

Wait, is this price good for in-store or is it online-only? I looked it up at Target's website and it said $39.00 (online price).

I'm really surprised that they'll let people do that since the state part has to be downloaded. You would think they would set it up so that it's only one state (free) per CD key. I'll be trying out that trick this year, so I hope it still works.

sonofagunk 01-03-2012 05:05 AM

well ignoring the "downloading it twice with one purchase", after you have downloaded it on 2 computers (I actually did 3 computers and bought it 3 times for the 0.01 last year), you can just physically copy the "state folders" (they actually are the same name as the state) all to the same computer and it works as if you downloaded all 3 on that computer. You cannot just do the states on separate computers without knowing something about taxes. States give you credit for taxes you paid in other states, so the software needs to see all of the different state returns at the same time.

sonofagunk 01-03-2012 05:08 AM

I read the rebate form, it doesn't say that you cannot use a photocopy of the rebate form, does it?

(and WTF that SD "automerged" my two posts that I wanted to be separate

This Deluxe version does include Schedule C. The Premium specs state "Schedule C guidance". If you draw down the forms supported in Deluxe, Schedule C is there. You will receive no "guidance" with the Deluxe version.

I've used both in the past few years and found Turbo Tax to be more straightforward.

WRONG. Deluxe does do Schedule C. I used it last year and run a business. I have 1099 income, business income, stocks, retirement accounts, SEP retirement account, business expense, business property and vehicle depreciation and a bit more. Overall pretty complicated return and the Deluxe version did it all for me easily.

If you read the description the Premium version makes it appear you may need it for a Schedule C by their wording. The wording is "includes Schedule C guidance". Seems to be a little play on words to get you to by the more expensive version.

It must be some type of a more guided or detailed part of the program that is not in Deluxe, maybe similar to a deduction finder feature.

Deluxe does do Schedule C without a problem and very easily. Everything is in there including vehicle expenses, depreciation Self Employment tax etc.

Here is a list of supported forms right from Block's description.

Common IRS forms and schedules:
Form 1040 Individual Income Tax Return
Form 1040A Individual Income Tax Return
Form 1040EZ Income Tax Return for Single and Joint Filers
Form W-2 Wage and Tax Statement
Form 1098 Mortgage Interest Statement
Form 1098-E Student Loan Interest
Form 1098-T Tuition Payment
Form 1099-DIV Dividends and Distributions Income
Form 1099-G Certain Government Payments
Form 1099-INT Interest Income
Form 1099-MISC Miscellaneous Income
Form 2441 Child and Dependent Care Credit
Form 8863 Education Credits
Form 8917 Tuition and Fees Deduction
Schedule A Itemized Deductions
Schedule B Interest and Dividends
Schedule C Profit or Loss from Business
Schedule C-EZ Net Profit from Business

Schedule D Capital Gains and Losses
Schedule EIC Earned Income Credit
Schedule SE Self-Employment Tax

You don't really need to know that much about taxes, haha. If a state provides a credit for taxes you paid in another state you just complete the state taxes on both computers and input the required info :). I did that last year for NJ and MD. But that copying the folder over thing will be MUCH easier. Thanks for the tip.

Target.com has this as the PC/Mac version. There's only the PC version in the store?

Online:
Computer Platform Compatibility: Windows XP, Windows 7, Mac OS X 10.5.8, Windows Vista
Online Item #: 13950581
Store Item Number (DPCI): 207-28-0576

Is it true it doesn't import Fidelity data?

the software is not free. H & R sends these out to thousands if not millions. You have to pay somewhere

why use this instead of tax act which includes both federal and state ?

Hmmm. Not sure about that. I did used an accountant last year
to do my taxes. The sticker said they wanted me back and it states
it is free. I dont want to go thru the whole filing process only to
be asked for a cc#. Has anyone got this "want you back" version?
Does it ask for cc#???????????????
