Does anyone know what the "economy shipping" method is that buy.com uses??

And let me guess, when you bought the game, you thought you were getting it for $35, making it "super slick." Do you ever wonder why retailers give promotional credit instead of just straight cash off? It's so people think they're getting a great deal twice for a single promo. :lmao:

jjburch2004 01-15-2012 10:32 AM

The Netflix app available via Live Gold is 10X better than the PlayOn experience. I have PlayOn, Live Gold, an AppleTV2, Viera Cast and a Roku. I like the experience with PlayOn the least by far. For Neflix: The XBox and AppleTV experience are both excellent. The Roku is very good. The Viera Cast (via Blu-ray) is OK, and PlayOn is just usable. :)

Thriftymomof2 01-15-2012 11:31 AM

I have a question on this please (sorry, not familiar with this) Is this active as soon as you buy it or do you have to activate it? Meaning if I purchase today does the membership start today or do I activate it when I receive it? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but my son wants this and am just trying to find out a little info. TIA

You buy this, they send you a card with a code redeemable for the service. The service doesn't become active until you enter the code via XBL to your account.

In one for from Buy's ebay page... but ended up getting charged sales tax ($2.87 for me in CA), so the total came out to $39.86. Still a great deal though.

Thx! How about Kinect Do you need Netflix app available via Live Gold ? or does it also work with Playon/ XBMC?

If you're going to have a kinect you might as well have an xbox gold membership as well. Being able to do "bing" searches for movie titles through simple voice commands is a really neat feature with the kinect. The user interface is much better on the xbox than on most PlayOn-compatibe devices, the movies load faster, and the image quality is probably better too.

I'm not a netflix subscriber but I watch a lot of tv shows via Hulu. The only downside from watching Hulu on the xbox is that some networks like ABC still don't give Hulu the rights to stream their shows to other devices besides a PC. But with playon I can bypass this restriction and stream these "hidden" shows that aren't available on the xbox to my WDTV Live player.

I haven't attempted to stream PlayOn to my xbox yet, sorry, no comment on that for now.

I used to use playon with my 360 do I could have icefilms on it. It wasn't that bad but left something to be desired. I finally gave up on it and just bought an original Xbox so I could install xbmc and be done with it!

dubleo 01-15-2012 01:27 PM

I have a question. Let's say my XBL gold membership expires the 17th , does that mean I can still use it on the 17th or will the 16th be the last day I can use my gold benefits?

the337 01-15-2012 01:29 PM

I believe you can use it on the last day which would be the 17th.

You can probably use it through the 17th, and won't have access to it starting midnight PST on the 18th.

My xbl showed as expiring on the 12th but on the 12th my gold subscription was no good. So, I'd figure on the 16th being your last day of use.

Maybe I'm just an old head, but is there anyone who remembers when 29.99 was considered a great deal for the 12 month live cards? Considering that they increased the price on the cards, this is still a good deal. I just miss the 29.99 days. Thx for posting!

No, it was $30 for the 12+1 cards! :bounce: But yes I remember and was thinking the same thing. Mine just ended and now I'm looking at $37-$40 when I thought that by now the prices would have dropped into the $20's.

Xbox Live Gold 12-month $36.99 + FS @ Buy.com

Buy.com has the Xbox live gold card on sale today on its web site for $36.99 with free shipping, this is a little better than the eBay deal posted yesterday because you can get the Rakuten points with this.

Shipping wasn't free for me.

Wolves 01-16-2012 08:22 AM

Last time I bought something from Buy.com on ebay they pulled the item off ebay, deleted the search history of ever seeing that item on my account, and deleted the "winning bid" from my ebay account.

Most bizarre thing I've ever encountered, I actually pondered if I had just dreamed it up, but upon ordering something else from ebay, I noticed the address was changed to where I wanted the item shipped and an address I hadn't mailed to in months.
Aka Buy.com is in cahoots with Ebay.

In the case above, a game with $60 MSRP was advertised as $55 (mediocre) but with a $20 store credit, effectively $35 (hot). People think this is a great deal and jump in. A while later, a mediocre deal pops up, but they think it's a scorching hot deal since they have another $20 off. The fallacy is that the customer is mentally associating the $20 discount with both purchases. A perceived $40 discount that only cost the retailer $20. Or less, considering margins.

And judging by how many people on SD think the same way, it's working like gangbusters. I hope whoever came up with this type of promotion got an enormous raise.

Not dumb. The old ones used to but apparently from what people say the new ones do not have expiration dates. You can stack up to three years so I need 6 cards. I was hoping to see these hit $30 again first though. :(

If you have the Family gold plan you can remove a sub account and add time to it, when you add it back to your family plan (I think its a week or so before you can add them back) the time on the single gold account adds to the family plan at 1 month for every two, so two years of single gold = 1 year of Family gold. As of right now you can not buy renewal cards for family plans so they are 99 + tax through MS this method saves a few bucks.

What does the family plan get you??

i have actually been renewing my membership for $1 a month. you need to be have a silver account, on the main splash screen there is a big ad to renew for a $1. then go to xbox.com/support and turn off auto renewal. after a month, you get asked on your xbox if you want to revert to FREE, say yes. rinse and repeat. :D

4 XBL Gold accounts. So for us its the wife me, and our two oldest boys. Helps also when you have multiple xboxs in the house and are using them for hulu/netflix.

I may have considered this, but since they removed 1080p playback from Netflix Im not renewing.

I will never buy anything from Buy.com!
They are a sleezy company and I would gladly spend more not to use them.

I bought a digital camera from them years back, and during the checkout process. I missed a check box that said to not sign you up for some crappy "travel deal" service that automatically bills my credit card $12 a month.

DO NOT USE BUY.COM
