Did this a few years ago same deal then. Freezer still works fine with no problems. Most of the food was pretty good when I got the deal.

tennis8363 03-01-2012 01:16 PM

HyVee must be owned or affiliated with Safeway in some way. They had this same ad come out last week in the Seattle, WA area.

Do you remember if the coupons had "purchase at HyVee Only" printed on them?
Because some of these manufacturer coupons I'd like to use at other stores.

indigo302 03-01-2012 01:23 PM

I miss HyVee!

hyvee is growing fast in the Midwest... They really a great company. Looks like a good deal

boss13 03-01-2012 01:39 PM

I got this deal couple years back. Worth every penny. Many of the coupons are mfr. so I guess you could use them anywhere coupons are accepted.

Fantastic beer and whiskey selection here.
I think I'll finally jump on this offer this year.

cavan 03-01-2012 01:52 PM

i saw freezer last year for 150
gets bad reviews

lordoff 03-01-2012 02:00 PM

200 in gift card to Safeway would been sick...

Yup, the coupons will only work at HyVee and are a pain for the cashiers to send through. I would recommend making one of your trips there just for the coupons so that you are sure that everything zeros out correctly.

Also be sure to let them know at the start of the transaction that you have all of the freezer coupons. This will also make it go smoother.

I think that there may be a couple that are manufacturer coupons but most if not all were for HyVee only

btcharpied 03-01-2012 04:15 PM

If this is the same Haier freezer chest that is sold at Costco, it is a really nice freezer. Does a great, great job for us and is very energy efficient ($30 a year, I believe).

SuperCrab 03-01-2012 04:29 PM

I am pretty sure Hyvee has nothing to do with Safeway. I almost did this last night while I was there but wasn't sure the quality of the freezer.

canyahearmenow4 03-01-2012 04:39 PM

From the picture, it looks like this model: HCM050EC [haieramerica.com]

Walmart [walmart.com] has it for $229.99

Nah, they are a shitty company.

mitcham 03-01-2012 04:46 PM

We have the same ad here this week and it's for $149!!

lrogoz 03-01-2012 05:57 PM

Really wish there was a Hy-Vee near me. My mom & dad have one near them and I go every time I visit. Love that store!

uniblabsd 03-01-2012 06:39 PM

While Chinese, they are far from crap. They're quite reputable and in my case, they employ a good number of people here in South Carolina with their plant just outside of Columbia. Now, if you want to talk about South Carolina being crap, I won't argue. But not Haier ;)

stasijane 03-01-2012 06:58 PM

I just went and picked me one up. We have been wanting a small freezer to put extra or oversized stuff in and this is PERFECT! the free food isnt bad either:D

CaptainHero 03-01-2012 07:22 PM

They had this deal last year and I picked up the freezer, but rather than paying $200 and getting the $200 in coupons, I opted to pay $69+tax for the freezer w/o coupons. They are based on MSRP, and as a Slickdealer, I figured I could get $200 worth of groceries that I actually want for less than the $131+tax difference. Not a huge fan of Haier, but it's been working fine for a year now.

jennifng 03-01-2012 08:10 PM

Cub foods is running the same deal, but the freeze is a homelife 5.2 cubit freezer. Buy it for $159.99 and get $160 in coupons. No telling what coupon.

WOW, That's a SlickDeal. Did they offer it to you that way or did you ask to buy it without the food coupons?

I miss Cub Foods....both stores closed in January in Madison,WI. I loved Cub because they took expired Manufacturer coupons up to 90 days & they accepted Register Rewards from Walgreens.

They offered it in-store for $68 or $69 w/o coupons- not advertised, but they had a sign on the display unit in front of a mountain of boxes w/freezers in them. I looked at the coupons and they were pretty good items but I thought the better value was to pay $69+tax.

This HyVee (Austin, MN) usually has some really good deals- they order special items by the truckload then blow them out for less than the advertised sale price. I'll miss the HyVee deals when I graduate in May, but I won't miss Austin.

Yes most were hyvee coupons or said valid at hyvee, i believe some were manufacturer coupons but not many. also as a bonus there was a hyvee gift card for $20 in with the coupons. I have to pay tax in my state before coupons so this helped pay all the sales tax on the "free" groceries. Like others have said tell the cashier before you start buying all the free stuff it will go much more smoothly. I almost want to get another one decisions decisions.

Audroid 03-01-2012 09:16 PM

Wish we had that store here, I need a freezer bad and would jump right on that.

casuall002 03-02-2012 06:45 AM

Yikes...I don’t think there is more than 2-3 things on that list I would want even for free...Gee, I don’t know why we’re so fat.

I know I lost a ton of weight when I quit eating batteries and sponges.

Thank you !! whats hilarious to me is the coupons for this store don't seem to be hardly any frozen foods. maybe thats good but the other stores seem to be filling the new freezer lol just noticed it seemed funny to me:lol:

LucaBella 03-05-2012 12:59 PM

That's so true, but for me, the thing is that there's at leas 40-50 bux worth of stuff we'd use or take, so it's like getting the freezer for a good $100 or $110... and then if I feel like selling it in a year or so I'm sure I could get 75 bux for it... so it seems worth it.
