Just a heads up, the voucher page says the promotional value expires 03/20/12, so you might want to 'redeem' it by adding the full $10 GC balance to your Amazon.com account (per the instructions on the AmazonLocal site) before the end of the day, otherwise it might turn into a $5 gift card. - Was an error from early hours of deal. It is now removed. Expiration date now says "Does not expire"

I just checked the description of the GC; also I called customer service # for Amazon local (the agent said they work for Amazon local + Amazon). They confirmed that by just placing the order the GC value will not diminish. The Amazon local site says:

Here's my prediction on how it's going to go down.
AmazonLocal uses your Amazon account to log in. When you buy the credit, it's going to go directly into your account. They'll limit it to one per account. That will make these credits unstackable.
The best way to exploit this will be to make X Amazon accounts and buy the credit on each of them, so whenever you buy a <$10 item on Amazon, it will be cheap.
No, you won't be able to essentially get what ever you want for half price.

You can't buy gift cards with gift cards though. Once the gift card is tied to your account you are stuck using it with that account, and there is no way to transfer it to another account.

But if you are able to buy a gift card, it is not tethered to that account from the day it is purchased forward. You can opt for a physical card which they will send to you that anybody can use, or send an egift to anybody. It really doesn't matter.

What are you buying? I haven't seen anything more expensive on Amazon as compared to BRU, in fact, most things were about 30% cheaper on Amazon. The only way BRU was competitive was because I was stacking % off codes. Anything over $20 used a 20% off code, and I took all our receipts back in to get a 10% refund on everything we bought ourselved (put it on your registry to get this).

Amazon already has a huge stake in LivingSocial.com, wonder why they are starting this...

Sure, of course it's almost not worth it if you don't have Prime and the GC is automatically tied to your Amazon account. That being said, since GCs never expire as long as you load them on to your Amazon account it might be worth trying to get at least one.

If you have Prime (or know someone who could invite you) I'd suggest jumping on this and just setting a deal alert on a few thing you're looking to pick up.

It won't be as easy as with other sites to purchase multiples. You can use virtual cards but they will limit it to each account. Making multiple accounts will be a hassle.

Almost everything. When I was buying infant stuff before she, or basic toys when she was 2-12 months old, or bigger outdoor toys now that she's 2 years. TRU is almost always cheaper. I used to always check the prices at TRU, go home to check amazon, and end up getting it at TRU. Now I just buy it at TRU and figure I'll return it if I find it cheaper. I almost never return anything.

Amazon might be the same price sometimes if you've got no coupons for TRU and they aren't having a sale. But this stuff goes on sale all the time, and you can often stack 20% coupons on things, and the coupons aren't hard to get. Not to mention come christmas time and TRU offers their 10% rewards on top of the sale + coupon combo.

P.S. If Amazon is selling these directly, they would be idiots to not put in place a scheme to avoid stacking on the same account. That would be easy for them to do, and surely they did not get to be big and rich without thinking about the consequences of hording SDers. I would imagine if you want to make 100 Amazon accounts, use 100 virtual credit card numbers, and try to buy one from each account really fast, you might be able to scam them that way. If Amazon is really super smart, they might limit or at least audit based on IP address, but I doubt that is worth their time. If people really want to figure out how to manage 100 difference subsequent Amazon product purchases from 100 different accounts while either paying for shipping or buying fillers to get to the SS minimum, Jeff Bezos will likely be willing to raise his glass to you from the deck of his yacht.

The biggest difference between this one and the previous deal is that Amazon is in control this time. You sign up/in for amazon when using amazon local deal, so it's pretty much tied to your account from the beginning.

No. Amazon provided funding to LivingSocial beginning in December of 2010. LivingSocial has received additional funding from Amazon amongst others after this, but LivingSocial was started before receiving funding from Amazon, and began on its own.

Possible but unlikely. If they wanted to counter multiple users, it'd be better to have it be tied to the user account. Sure there'll be people with $10 per account but I'm sure it would deter lots if they can't stack it.

My question would then be how you spend them. I have to assume that Amazon is not dumb enough to let you stack multiple of these in the same account. After all, Amazon is making the promotion themselves and they know that deal seekers see Amazon credit as being similar to cash. So you will more than likely end up with 50 new Amazon accounts each with a $10 credit. Since you have no prime in those new accounts, you will need to then place 50 separate orders of at least $25 each. (If you spend less, your $5 bonus will be erased with the shipping cost.) I doubt that they will track it so far as to give you static for shipping all 50 accounts to the same address. They could technically do it, of course, but since you will be using those 50 account over months or years, it would get tricky for them to try to refund or rescind at some unknown future date, so I would expect them to let that part slide.

I guess you likely have unlimited time to spend all 50 accounts, so it might work for the right person with the right buying patterns. But for the normal shopper, it seems trivial for them to thwart the SD hoarders. In fact, they could likely make it very uncomfortable for someone who tries to hoard only to discover that the hoarder is stuck making 50 separate Amazon purchases over time from 50 non-prime accounts... and then hoping that Amazon doesn't catch on to the fact that most/all are being shipped to the same address and decide to put your address on the Amazon Blacklist. (Seems unlikely I assume, but I have heard that there is such a thing... just like the infamous Staples Blacklist.)
