So what were the types of cars that were previously purchased and what were the final prices?

xyos 03-24-2012 12:18 PM

The first vehicle up for grabs (which sold before I could even finish writing this blog post) is a 2012 Chevy Camaro V6 Automatic with 12 miles for $12,720. It came with the factory warranty, black paint, and a price that you will never ever beat at your local dealer. eBay Item Number

my friend just bought that same camaro for 24k lol

KenBT 03-24-2012 12:31 PM

granted chances of getting this- is like the Chicago Cubs winning the MLB Championship for 2012 season

wonder what model is next to be auctioned

xyos 03-24-2012 12:32 PM

its all about who refreshes, but the fact you have to PAY cash for it will reduce the number of people who can afford it

KenBT 03-24-2012 12:36 PM

well as far as paying CASH within in 72 hrs- is no problem- if they needed 24 hrs is fine

but getting lucky "refreshing" would be priceless

SonofZeus 03-24-2012 12:39 PM

We're ready to rock. Fingers crossed for something made in Marysville, OH.

KenBT 03-24-2012 12:41 PM

That 2012 Sonic looks like a demo car or something- since it had like 180 miles on it

jneset 03-24-2012 12:41 PM

What is with the stupid requirement of no financing-cash? It gets turned into a check and releases the seller from any sort of repo anyways.

xyos 03-24-2012 12:43 PM

I'd buy one just to resell for alot of profit lols

bigaforlife 03-24-2012 12:43 PM

I'm thinking the press release might be them including you in their promo video or something..would make sense but not sure!!!

xyos 03-24-2012 12:48 PM

I"m in for a 350z lols

KenBT 03-24-2012 12:48 PM

probably cost up to $1K for me to ship to San Pedro, CA- but I would be so stoked and then call my banker "Merrill Lynch Wealth Management" to do a cash transfer

string3599 03-24-2012 12:52 PM

Well now that you posted it here your chances are greatly reduced, OP.

Worst case...sell it to CarMax.

Is there any way to see how long these auctions were live? I see an end time but no start time. Also this reminds me of some other deal from here a long time ago. Can't put my finger on it though.

those trucks regularly go for 10-13k off msrp, which in this case would be 26k new. 19.5k plus about 2-3 grand in sales tax and fees, you would be lucky to make a few grand reselling it.

xyos 03-24-2012 01:52 PM

I asked about that agreement thing, they said

"We would love to get a video or audio testimonial of how you felt about our amazing deal. the talent agreement allows us to get your feedback and be able to use it on our website about your experience.
"

I also verified with ebay that this is legit

xyos 03-24-2012 02:19 PM

man its rough waiting, can waste a week on this easily hahah, the hard part is I doubt many people want to spend $10-20k on a car

jneset 03-24-2012 02:38 PM

1 left today, lets get it over with!

xyos 03-24-2012 02:55 PM

well the first one was around 11, than 2, than, 5ish, so i'm thinkg they are about 3 hours apart..which would put the next one at 8 pm

mavv 03-24-2012 03:08 PM

How do you all know there is just one more car left for today because of the 29 cars in 8 days ad? So technically more could come online in the early hours of Sunday if that's correct. Is there a way to check which cars have already been sold except for the small photos on their main page? or the cars coming up for that matter...

xyos 03-24-2012 03:12 PM

^^ they said they are selling 4 cars per day, than the big $60k corvetee for 30k on the 30th, unfortunately that's half the game they don't tell you when or what car is coming up, they will update the image each day with the sold cars

Right, but by winning, you're basically making a minimum of $5K once you put in a couple hours worth of time to flip this.

You should of just paid for the shipping seperatly. Visit "http://www.carshipping.com/" I've gotton sick deals when I ship from place to place hence it's individual companies competing for best price.

xyos 03-24-2012 03:38 PM

yea $26k is rough, but $45k retail...course MSRP is high...that is alot of room for profit

whew I can get back to other Slick Deals but if I were "xyos" and the other 3 SD'ers- I would be stoked- we all wake up wondering what kind of deals we might buy- but I doubt any of us woke up this morning- saying big deal "KenBT" got a Canon T3i Bundle Kit- that's lame- LOL- I am a Slick Deals "BALLER" and bought a freakin' CAR and the only things hurting are my fingers or auto refresh!

stm69 03-24-2012 03:40 PM

lol... saw this thread so clicked link to ebay just for fun and saw 1 car listed, I'm like looking reading the details, lalalala... then realize this is a race to buy it hahah! epic fail.

You sure the MSRP is that high though? I'm seeing $31k range (after tax credit), unless this is fully-loaded.

Clicking refresh $1 dollar, for everything else we have "Auto Refresh Plus" :D

It starts at 31K because of an $8,000 tax credit. Actual upfront MSRP is $39,000 and can go up to $45K. Obviously simple math shows that if you qualify for the full $8,000 tax credit then the most expensive one would be $37,000.

I think its actually pretty crooked that Chevrolet can show the price after tax credit. I haven't seen any other manufacturer do that. I know Nissan did with the Leaf solely to show it was still a better deal than the Volt.

xyos 03-24-2012 03:47 PM

But you have sales tax, which you will have to pay.

Edit: You are correct but it is sales tax, not income tax.

Also it may be worth it for you to buy an hours worth of CPA's time to see of you would owe any income tax (Federal and State). You didn't win a car but it might be a grey area.

I haven't checked what these are going for used....really it should be any higher than $31K right now (since that is potentially the new price) you could make somewhere around $5,000....unless someone is willing to pay more to not end up getting the tax rebate (some people aren't intelligent).

Also someone please correct if I'm wrong, but if you sell it for profit then it will be taxed 15% for capital gains.

edit: That's true you should be able to claim the tax credit for purchasing the car. So that will help offset some of the money you would lose because of capital gains.

It is not a capital gain. It would be ordinary income taxed at your marginal tax rate.

Yeah!!! I'm planning on keeping it for now..not 100% but my car is reaching its end so it's almost a no brainier

Good luck to everyone and congrats to whoever gets through

KenBT 03-24-2012 04:04 PM

This is definitely FOREIGN GROUND- not normal chat to talk about a Slick Deal then have to decide whether the GAIN from reselling is ordinary income or a capital gain- not use to for example 5K+ profits from selling a SD purchase- usually just in the maybe hundred dollar or so gains.

string3599 03-24-2012 04:11 PM

Also, you may have to figure out if the tax credit you get on your Federal return for buying the volt reduces your basis in the Volt. So you bought it for $26k and get an $8k tax credit. That might reduce your basis to $18k. If you sell it for $30k you might be looking at $12k in ordinary income. Not sure if you would have to pay self employment tax on it though. I strongly suggest you talk to a CPA about this.

Edit: I am done bumping this thread now, need to keep it low key. All this talk about taxes should hopefully steer people away.

Superocean 03-24-2012 04:36 PM

So i'm looking at the site and it say four cars sold.
March 23.. how many on sale?
March 24.. how many sold?
Camaro, Ford focus, Chevy Sonic and Mustang. all sold today?
March 25...

Now has the volt sold? It's not showing as sold on that ebay page.

Somebody wanna give me a $30k Loan this week? I'll pay it back in 2 week for $32K.

xyos 03-24-2012 05:49 PM

the eBay page will be updated towmorrow...

now i gotta figure out the best way to get the car...seems like it would be a good idea to actually see it before shipping over $22,000 lol, but it is in Florida

debating driving down, but wouldn't really want to drive it back and put 1k miles on it

cptbarkey 03-24-2012 07:12 PM

one way plane ticket and drive it back. its already a used car so dont expect extremely low miles to make much of a difference.

Updated wiki. I was seconds away from the Volt, but don't have $25k laying around.

It's kinda look woot's BOC you know what car it is when it goes on sale and you don't know anything in advance.

That way the autonation people know you will be looking at the site over and over again.

That Ford F150 for $20k was a steal. I'd love to get that for half off although it looks like the math was a bit off. $36K but sold for 19K.

bklyndevil44 03-24-2012 09:42 PM

i don't think you'll be able to register the car though. iirc, ca dmv won't register any cars with less than 7,500 miles (their definition of a new car) unless your car broke down out of state and you bought a new one, were deployed out of state and bought a car there, etc.

Man, I would have loved to win the Volt! I would be driving it for the next 10 years though, as this is one of the cars I really want to buy for me. Congrats on being first in, even though you don't want/need it. I wish I had known about this promotion yesterday. I'll just have to see what comes up next and hope for some luck.

I am really surprised that they are including some really decked out cars! I would have expected only bare-bones offerings. I wonder what flavor of vette they are going to be offering? I won't be going for that because it's not something I want/need, but it's a nice dream. It would be fun to get just to make my nephew jealous though! :omg:

what does that say??
I still don't understand how I had that volt in my cart and was sitting at paypal checkout and it got yanked away. Once you commit to a buy it now you're obligated to buy it with other auctions. $500 deposit was just due in 24 hrs on some of their pgs, there is like 1 pg that says immediately.
what is funny is my netbook from cowboom for $99 was an allnighter page reload deal. this is pretty quiet, there isn't a whole lot out watching this if I can stand a chance of even seeing the item!

what site do you guys your page monitor on?

NewCents 03-25-2012 09:07 AM

The Volt is NOT one to drive long distance. You will be stopping to charge way too often.

Tax credits according to this [irs.gov] are expired. Does anyone have an updated notice link?

It is never advertised what the cost per mile of plugging the car in actually is. Does anyone know?

A tax credit is much better than a tax deduction and $7500 should take care of any 'gain' if it were actually interpreted as one.

The credit applies to cars not purchased for resale. You are not a dealer, but you might want to check with someone knowledgeable in that area.

If you pay $20K and get $7500 to pay toward federal income tax as well, that is a pretty slickdeal indeed.

xyos 03-25-2012 09:22 AM

well I dont have a license yet, just turned 16, so I would just wire the money, but Id be scared to cause that is a bit risky. So I would just ask my dad to fly down ad drive here, but I live in farkING Omaha, NE which is in the exact middle of the US, so its defenitely a 2-day drive. Wire = Drive for me

but since you are in NH wire < driving granted that you can use a sick day and get away with it. What car did you get? Camaro? Mustang? Volt?

You're wrong on many levels, so do us all a favor and don't post.

It's a hybrid, not an electric only, so you can run on gasoline.

It is advertised how much it costs with charging.

Tax credits still apply if you purchase the vehicle new.

It's a $7500 tax credit, not a deduction. For someone like myself who ends up getting around $1000 back at the end of the year it would mean I have to really ramp up my W4 withholdings so as to not pay as much tax with each paycheck, for this calendar year only.
It's tough remembering, in practice. I underpayed in 2010 so got hit with a penalty in 2011, then I forgot to adjust the W4 until I got hit with the penalty so I had to overpay, and I got laid off, so I had to do it with no money coming in.

And even with rising gasoline prices -- topping $4 a gallon in parts of the country -- EVs are just not competitive, according to the Lundberg Survey.

Gasoline prices would have to rise to $8.53 a gallon to make the Leaf competitive and hit $12.50 for a Volt to be worth it, based on the cost of gasoline versus electricity, fuel efficiency and depreciation, the survey said.

The tax credit has nothing to do with your with holdings. Your Federal tax liability has to be $7,500 in order to take full advantage of the tax credit.

Nope. I am a contractor. I can't fit my tools in a camaro.

My current van is 10 years old and should be turning 400,000 this week. To say I am due for a replacement is an understatement.

While they say you can't finance these deals. My CU would cut a cashiers check to pay for it with a loan for said cashiers check.

Mesosneaky 03-25-2012 10:15 AM

missed my cruze lol

supermsp 03-25-2012 10:17 AM

just missed the cruze ahhhhhhh!!!!! my hands are shaking

I'm getting a car from this no matter what, even if i have to stay on the computer 24 hrs.

ArmanS 03-25-2012 10:19 AM

wow missed the cruze had it in my cart all the way until paypal payment was about to buy then said not available!! does anyone know if this is 100% legit? it is not listed anywhere on autonationdirect's website..

youisjr 03-25-2012 10:20 AM

Same here, I got past the checkout, but paypal held me up. It was still available after returning from Paypal, but I went to approve and it was gone...

I hesitated a few times because I asked myself, why am I buying a Chevy Cruze?

I think this thing is getting a lot bigger and it's going to be much more difficult to get the transactions to go through when 1000+ people are clicking at the same time. Hopefully they resolve their issues, but pretty much it's a contest now.

AvidBuyer 03-25-2012 10:25 AM

I got to click buy it now and then it was sold 32 seconds later

ArmanS 03-25-2012 10:28 AM

are any of you skeptical as in no info of this is posted on autonationdirects website.

Yeah, not everyone has the time to flip a car, or the $15-25k out of pocket...

I don't care if I'm lucky enough to actually puchase one... this is fun and timewasting. Reminds me of the early days of Woot.

If it's not disclosed on the Ebay listing, "customary" isn't relevant.

50 people? 1000 people? 10000 people? What's it matter. This thing has gone viral enough that I'm not getting in. I got to the computer about 12 seconds after the alarm went off on the Cruze and there was already no 'Buy it now' to press. Oh, to have only gotten in when things were fresh....

Still waiting for #3 to drop.

BTW- The thumbs down thing does work. I *did* initially see the posting on Friday evening, but did not look at the post until Saturday evening because of the score. FAIL (on my part).

cptbarkey 03-25-2012 12:41 PM

it is pretty much luck, nothing about being the fastest gun in the west. ebay is using a web server farm, and someone in a certain state might be able to get the jump on this way before (talking milliseconds here) anyone else across the country would have.

First day it seems they lasted atleast 5-15 minutes.

Now last less than 10 seconds.

I feel like the quieter you are about your specific invoice (not making this public information) would be the safest way to go here...

On a side note: Is that a refundable deposit of $500 or is that gone if you back out?

Though you can't register any of the cars in California (unless active military), you can still make out on the deal if by chance you were able to purchase one of the cars.

NOTE:California law prohibits California residents or businesses from importing and/or registering a new vehicle with less than 7,500 miles at the time of purchase unless it meets or is exempt from California emission standards. If you acquire a 49-State vehicle (manufactured for all states except California) from another state or country, you may not be able to register your vehicle in California.

Taken for their website. Lame.

It would make sense that they do as that would not make sense to exclude Californians from the promotion. I never saw anything about 50 state emissions. Will have to look again. Thanks.

it's insane now, you can't even hesitate for a second if you want the car or not. no time to even process the cost.

ninensei 03-25-2012 01:40 PM

Yep, almost time for everyone to reverse their thumbs down vote so the OP will get Front Page credit. Kind of a lost cause now. Might as well let the other half of the world in on the deal since half is in on it already. I'll keep trying though. I'm sure the office will enjoy my network usage during the week. You know, I figured competition for the vette would be crazy, but I didn't think competition would ramp up this quickly!

Why on planet earth would one need to hesitate on this? The rule here is buy now and think later. You will probably never find a deal more suited to that rule than this one.

PS. What ebay link is everyone watching? Even with auto refresh mine says 4 cars still available. Let the house for a bit so never saw the malibu. But page doesn't reflect that it sold.
