refurb - 90 day warranty

I have one of these.can somebody tell me how to play a dvd movie on this tablet?
I recorded a movie on a flash drive and an sd card in various formats but the tablet doesn't recognize any of the files.
Do i need to download some type of movie playback ap first?

Just bought the refurb Kindle Fire for the wife. She'll be happy with me. If I buy this for myself, she may not be happy with me anymore.

I don't know if it makes sense - Squaretrade wants $76 for a one year warranty, which would make this a $375 refurnished tablet with a 1 year warranty.

Costco sells these (with a case I think) for $350 after instant rebate (in CO). I know you end up paying tax on $400, so in my 'hood, it is $432-$50= $382. If I buy with my AmEx at Costco, I get 3% back, and 2 or 3 year warranty.

If it was a refurb with a 1 year warranty, good deal. 90 day warranty just ruins it for me. Amazon is selling Kindles refurbished with the same 1 year warranty, Apple is selling iPad 2 16GB for $349 with a one year warranty.... Samsung does not, and this comes at a time when my friends 4 month old Tab dies, and Microcenter does not sell them any longer, so they are stuck with a store credit now.

No micro sd slot is a deal killer for me. Epic fail

I don't think it will add much value at all (maybe $10?). You have to remember that android is free, so including it on the tablet is really just adding for labor cost, which I wouldn't be willing to pay much more, if any extra.

Sometimes it can be confusing to get stuff to play on your android device. My recommendation is to use an awesome program called: Vidcoder

Vidcoder seems like it is primarily designed to transcode videos for Apple products, but it will do stuff for Android too. Download Vidcoder and point it to the DVD you ripped. It should open it and you need to put the settings on High End Android. Depending on your PC/MAC speed it could take a few hours to transcode. (I usually setup a "queue" of videos and then have Vidcoder transcode them over night) Once the new file is created you just have to copy it to your flash drive/microSD card. It should just play with the built in player for the tab...but if not, you need to download an app from the marketplace. I highly recommend an app called MoboPlayer. In my experience it will literally play any format of file.

My advice is to get a 11.6" netbook, or bigger if that's your cup of tea. Get a tablet later (or in addition to a PC) Don't try to replace a full fledged PC with a tablet.

Don't get me wrong, if I wanted a 10" tablet for $400 or less right now, this is the one I'd get. But, if you just get a tablet I think you'll find it too limiting. (This is assuming, from your comment, that you won't have any other mobile computing device)

I bought it already, I have a desktop and the 5 year old laptop is good for an hour with the charger plugged in!
