Crucial M4 SSD sale: 64GB $65 or 128GB $128 (or less) shipped AC at Staples

65516 Attachment(s)
Crucial 64GB and 128GB M4 2.5-inch SATA 6GB/s Internal SSD Drive

Newegg seems to have sold out so this is another option for the 128GB model, plus I've added the 64GB model.

64GB M4 SSD: $90 - $25 off $75 coupon = $65 shipped. Link [staples.com]

128GB M4 SSD: $158 - $30 off $150 coupon = $128 shipped Link [staples.com]

Want it cheaper? PM to Amazon (thanks ynotgee for showing how easy it was to PM): 64GB [amazon.com], 128GB [amazon.com]
FW give 2.5% CB.

I have an older Crucial M3 C300 64GB SSD with Marvell controller and it has performed flawlessly. Never had a BSOD and it scores a 7.9 on WEI, for whatever that's worth. I'm expecting better performance with this newer model.

64GB is back in stock boys...I just grabbed 3 and PM to Amazon 79-25=$54+tax! 4/16/12

Apparently this deal is 2 months old http://www.overclock.net/t/121683...e-shipping

Can still get 128gb with transfer kit for $123.99+tax!

http://www.staples.com/Crucial-12...uct_432227

169.99 - $25 off coupon = 144.99
- 21 PM to amazon = $123.99 + tax

price match to amazon's 148.88 http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004W2JLB6

Of course the $30 off $150 coupon would be preferable and get it even lower, but I took advantage of the free $25 code. Even with the cost of the $30 code, it would be a better deal, but I was lazy =)

For Amex cardholders, you can save $10 more via the Twitter promotion for Staples $10 credit back for any $50 purchase at Staples.

diecastbeatdown 04-04-2012 10:54 AM

Thanks OP, I already had a 64GB so went ahead and picked up a 2nd one at $70 after 25 off 75 coupon.

ElectricSD 04-04-2012 10:54 AM

Pretty sure this is a re-post. That Amazon price has been live for a while. Either way the Newegg deal is SOLD OUT already, so this is good again. Even if you do have to pay tax on it at staples.

That's a good deal, its actually $65 before tax if any, I'll add it to the OP. I paid $95 for the 64GB M3 a last year (or the year before) which was a good deal at the time.

Ya, that's a price match to Amazon's price, this is more straightfforward since Staples has it on sale so no need for a PM.Edit: updated OP to include PM to Amazon.

Might want to point this out in your title. I think a lot of people will be quick to assume this is a deal that would require PM. (although Amazon is at $153 now so you can save an extra $5 if you PM)

If the title doesn't say PM then you don't need a PM. Don't over complicate titles, just use them properly! :P

True, just thought it would help because similar threads have been posted a few times previously as a PM. Judging by 2 out of 3 people replying to this thread so far (ElectricSD and myself) who initially thought it was a PM deal, figured it wouldn't hurt to clarify with a short "no PM!" in the title. :)

Tazmania99 04-04-2012 11:38 AM

The point is, where do we get the coupons from? Staples has not issued any dollar off coupons lately for the last few months. I think it is difficult to get a legitimate coupon unless you purchase a fake one from e-junkies and jeopardize your Staples account.

All the ejunkie coupons are fake.

Though they have not affected my purchase to date.

ynotgee 04-04-2012 12:12 PM

Just jumped in on one. Got it for 66.22. PM with live chat, got 5.31 deducted. Took literally just 2 mins with the Steve. Ejunkie coupon for 2.48, coulda probably got one cheaper, but meh. Also live in Chicago, with tax, 4.06.

Just do a simple comment. "Price Match on the following item. Crucial 64GB m4 2.5-inch SATA 6GB/s Internal SSD Drive (89.99) On Amazon, its 84.99." Thats what I used.
Then he will ask for your order number. You give him/her your order, voila. 5 bucks off your total. 2-3 Business day on refund.

This is done through online purchase. Free shipping, whatever :D.

SHOWTIME07 04-04-2012 01:01 PM

I paid .75 for mine at SDerClub. I used to pay ~$1.25 for each coupon, but put $10 in my account to waive the transaction fee. Its been sitting in my account for at least 6 months since I haven't seen any good deals at staples recently. Last time I used a coupon at Staples was for the WD My Passport Essential 1TB USB 3.0 portable drive for $55.

If you can turn a screw and push in a couple of plugs you shouldn't have a problem. However if you have a laptop that has a hard drive that's only accessible by removing the keyboard then the best of luck to you.

asianman35 04-04-2012 01:37 PM

Just got a 64GB for around $50

$65 w/ coupon - $10 in ink rewards - $10 amex twitter credit + ~$5 tax/coupon cost

catalog 04-04-2012 01:47 PM

I bought a 64GB for around $55.

$65 w/25 off coupon - $5 amazon PM - $10 amex twitter credit + ~$5 tax/coupon cost

I first placed the order online with coupon. I then used online chat to PM to amazon. I just told them amazon had it for 84.99 and they said it would be credited to my account in a couple days.

xtravbx 04-04-2012 01:47 PM

I really want an SSD but the 128GB would be more convenient for me. The 64GB for about 65$ seems to be a very nice deal though. Can anyone who has the 64GB let me know how much space is left after the OS install?

If you are installing them in a desktop you can buy 2 64GB and raid0 them and get an extremely fast machine. Not sure how big a normal Win7 OS install would be, I have a trimmed Win7 version that uses about 10gb of space.

It's less than that. Disable hibernation and lower your pagefile (if you have enough ram).

This is probably the most reliable and best performing SSD on the market, especially if you have a Sata III compatible motherboard. 5 star average on newegg from over 600 reviewers. Link [newegg.com]

How's Arch? I was running it several years ago when it was about 20 in the Distrowatch rankings, awesome to see it in the Top 10 now.

Kin23 04-04-2012 02:38 PM

Just bought 2x 64gb Crucial M4's. Came out to be $70.1x per drive + about $1.50 per ejunk** coupon. Slick deal to me, especially since the Crucial SSD's are known to be reliable. As for as speed, Its not as important to me since any SSD will still be noticibaly faster than a regular HDD. I perfer reliability, and having owned an OCZ Vertex plus, let me tell you when I'm saying I get 5 Blue screen of death crashes a day, there is NO exageration.

Bought a crucial m4 about 2 months ago for the wife and it has never crashed.

You can install on regular sata but guessing by what generation your processor is you probably have sata II which means you won't see full speed from this. You would probably get the most bang for your buck from a deal on a sata II drive.

(Unless of course I guessed wrong or you're planning to upgrade your motherboard soon.)

I bought this last weekend phoning in to Staples and pricematched Amazon ($155) and bought the 128GB for $125.50 (with $30off $150 coupon from eBay) but was charged $8.50 in tax. I think I was had with taxes but free shipping.

redfox88 04-04-2012 03:51 PM

I hate to be this guy but does anyone have a spare Staples coupon? I bought two via eBay but it looks like PayPal is down at the moment. Rather not miss out on this deal. If anyone has a spare, Id love to trade the two I tried buying for 1 that works now.

Wish I had saw this before I ordered...

I've gotten the 128GB drive for $120 after the price match, and the 64gb for $55 after the price match. Just keep your eye open for Amazon's price changing=often, and get them when they come down to these price levels.

Most likely. I haven't seen a mobo with sata III that would support your cpu. So like I said earlier, a sata II SSD would probabably be your best upgrade. (Like one of those intel 320 deals a while back)

RibeyeAndScotch 04-05-2012 02:56 PM

Sata 3 SSD's are backwards compatible with SATA 2 and in real world applications, it'll feel infinitely faster than disk HDD.

Although you won't get incredible read/write speeds as you would with Sata 3 capable motherboard, it is definitely worth getting because its the biggest upgrade you can do to any computer using standard HDD.

More in-dept research here.

Newegg is now 83.99, so if they pricematch for them, use them. I would have broke the 60 dollar mark.

Anybody have any info on installing windows xp to these drives? I'm hearing alot about trim and garbage collection, and some other things that can be tweaked in windows to make ssd's run more efficiently. Just want it to stay quick 3 months from now.

Scurbdog 04-05-2012 07:22 PM

FYI- My 64gb came with bios-0009 and I will be updating to 0309 and so should you. Here- http://www.crucial.com/support/firmware.aspx

peetsjunkie 04-05-2012 07:26 PM

Staples rocks.... delivered in less than 24hrs..... Buy.com sucks... cancelled my Petrol 128gb after 36 hrs.... FU BUY.com....

ynotgee 04-05-2012 11:57 PM

Quick shipping. Got it under 24 hours from yesterday purchase. Installed it within 3 mins. Pop in fresh install.

However, I did get some sudden shutdowns. Idk if anyone else experiencing this or my rag overheating. Maybe its just its first day. :).

I tried to price match Newegg, but the Staples rep said they do not price match Newegg any more. So I checked Amazon, and the price is now $83.99, so they ended up doing the price match for $83.99.
Final cost: $89.99 - $6 (Amazon $83.99 price match) - $25 (ejunkie $25 off $75 coupon) + $4.13 (tax) - $10 (#AmexStaples twitter $10 off $50 deal) + $0.69 (cost of ejunkie coupon) = $53.81

Weird mine was 0009 and the firmware did recognize I needed 0309. Hmm oh well the firmware flash worked great and it running fast.

jasonxfri13th 04-09-2012 10:30 AM

OK, I'm kind of confused right now but in a good way.
I recently got an X200T so I ordered the 64gb m4 ssd from staples. The tracking on staples website wasn't working so I checked to see if they refunded me and cancelled the order, but no, $65 was taken out.

I checked two days later and still no tracking, but the $65 transaction disappeared and I had my $65 back.
I decided to try ups tracking, and behold, it's arriving tomorrow!
So, did I get a free ssd or does staples do this and take money after it arrives?

andyslee 04-09-2012 11:51 AM

The drive is now $81.99 on Amazon. So try to price match that if you haven't already. It took me about 3 min total with live chat. Staples has great customer service!

$89.99
-$25 off $75 coupon
-$52 Staples rewards
+ 1.01 tax in CA
= $14.00
+ $.75 coupon cost
+ $26.51 cost of Staples rewards credit
- $8.62 PM
= $32.64 total

I think that's a slickdeal for a zippy 64GB SSD.

My $10 deposit sat untouched for at least 6 months since there wasn't anything at staples that was worthwhile to me, logged in yesterday to claim the coupon and I was able to retrieve it. I had paid $1.50 for each coupon for the span of about a year prior to depositing the $10. I did run into a hiccup today as I tried to use another coupon using the same account and it said it had been redeemed. Logged back into my sderclub account to validate the coupon and it said it had not been claimed yet so I checked out as guest on staples and was able to apply the coupon. I'm guessing that some people filing complaints tried to use multiple coupons on the same account like I did and were unable to apply it a second time.

I need SDers help. I am interested in getting an SSD for a PC to install both Mac OS and Win and would like to know if 64GB is enough for OSs and programs or do I need a bigger capacity like 128GB?
I already bought the Crucial M4 128 GB w/ kit for $123 (tax included) but I could get this for $50 after PM + coupon + Amex CC.
Suggestions?!

HofstraJet 04-10-2012 12:02 PM

Great. Update the wiki in the linked thread. No need to clutter the board with essentially the same deal.

I only use 10-15GB's of space, so the 64GB is more than sufficient. I have a 128GB drive, too, but on Ebay, they are going for $90-$100 after fees/shipping, so I won't sell it since I'd rather have it in my main system for that small difference I just paid to get the 64gb drive.

It's all dependent on how much space you use up on the main drive, but my rule of thumb is boot drive, storage or raid/nas setup...so 64gb's in any system is fine for me, though as I say, for only $35 more than the $55 price most people will be paying, I'll gladly hold onto my 128GB drive.

There shouldn't be much of a real world performance difference if any from the M3. 7.9 is the highest score you can get on Windows Index. I have an M4 and it doesn't really feel faster than some of my lesser spec SSD drives for real world use. They are all really fast compared to a mechanical hard drive.

I can also confirm I received this deal using live chat and providing the customer service rep with the link to amazon at the price of $79.99 (http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-64-...512&sr=8-1) and then used the $25 off $75 coupon.

Total: $79.99
-25.00 off 75.00 purchase
_____
$54.99
+$4.54 sales tax (Texas 8.25%)
Free Shipping

Total: $59.53 shipped

jayhawknative 04-10-2012 02:50 PM

Can still get 128gb with transfer kit for $123.99 + tax!

http://www.staples.com/Crucial-12...uct_432227

169.99
-$25 off coupon
=144.99

price match to amazon's 148.88 http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004W2JLB6
- 21
= 123.99 + tax

Then I had $30 in ink rewards so got it for sub $100

Of course the $30 off $150 coupon would be preferable, but I took advantage of the free $25 code. Even with the cost of the $30 code, it would be a better deal, but I'm lazy =)

the first one i bought for myself, i price matched first before purchasing. I received a price match email from staples.

had the wife buy one as well w/ her amex but purchased first and THEN did price match. The CSR on chat with me said my transcript would serve as the record of pricematch.

so i ended up buying two:

$89.99 - $25 coupon + tax = $70.68
-$10.88 price match
-$10 Amex/Twitter/Staples deal

= $50.68 x 2 = $101.36 for two 64 SSD's.

=D

It arrived today and I'm installing Windows 8 on my X200T right now!

I already bought the Crucial M4 128 GB w/ kit for $123 (tax included) but I could get this for $50 after PM + coupon + Amex CC.
Suggestions?!

Windows 7 can take up to 35GB, but can successfully run in about half of that space. If you go with the 64GB for the 2 OSes(?) you'll probably want to look into doing a Windows 7 custom install to make sure the two fit. Good link at SevenForums [sevenforums.com] about it. (first hit from Google search "windows 7 install size")

ejdme 04-10-2012 04:17 PM

In for 64GB. Placed my order with a $25 off coupon, and price matched via live chat. Really easy.
Ended up being $58.84.

yangster 04-10-2012 04:34 PM

Awesome. Got the 128GB deal. I want to get one more, but eh, there will probably be better ones at the same price by the time I need it.

How did you get the 128GB deal when it has been OOS at Staples for days?

Also, anyone have any idea why Live Chat is broken for me (Firefox, Chrome, and IE)? I get:

Getting the same error.

tastykumquat 04-10-2012 05:25 PM

Try opening the chat from the product page

rylarson 04-10-2012 05:30 PM

Its only open until 8PM EST...

fiveolddogs 04-10-2012 05:38 PM

I don't get a link to Live Chat on the product page, only if I go to help first.

Also, this error has nothing to do with Live Chat being closed for the day, as I was getting the error hours ago as well.

read my post (on the same page as yours) or in the wiki. 128gb with xfer kit, cheaper than non-xfer kit and in stock.

passionate 04-11-2012 09:37 AM

If you have an Amex card, you can save $10 more with the Twitter promotion. I got the 64GB for $48.xx after price match, $25 off coupon and $10 Amex credit.

Mine has expected delivery date of 4/18. I think it shows such expected day because this item has 3-5 days expected delivery showing on the item page. Most stuffs I bought from Staples has next day delivery, but this one doesn't show next day delivery. We might receive it earlier than the expected delivery day though.

Bradwheat25 04-11-2012 01:58 PM

I ordered yesterday and the Staples website is showing an expected delivery date of 4/17. The tracking number shows it shipped from Georgia yesterday and is currently in Charlotte, NC. I'm in Virginia and the UPS website shows an expected delivery of tomorrow by end of day.

I'm trusting in the UPS date more than the Staples estimate.

TPP 04-11-2012 02:36 PM

I ordered my M4 64GB from Staples yesterday around noon. Website shows expected delivery via Staples Courier on 4/17 with status as "in transit'.

UPS just delivered my drive at 5:30 pm. Unbelievable.........I'm in shock that they shipped it so quick for free.

Hope the rest of you get yours just as quick!

azn_plyr 04-11-2012 10:21 PM

Ordered a 64gb yesterday and a 128gb arrived at my door. YAY STAPLES $60 128gb drive XD

Must be a mistake or they ran outta 64gb and shipped me a 128gb anyways.

Lucky for those who got next day shipping. Mine has a UPS tracking number already, and it has expected delivery date of 4/17 according to UPS. Mine also comes from GA.

Sent to my Gmail account just minutes after my purchase through the Staples phone rep.

BTW I'm using the drive works right now and its great...very fast!

For those interested.... Clean Install

I installed Windows 7 Professional SP1+ All driver and windows updates+ Office 2010 Standard + all office updates + Chrome + Firefox + Magic Disk+ ESET NOD 32 + LastPASS+ Slimdrivers + Paragon Backup and Recovery 2012

I then redirected all Libraries and Download folder over to another Harddrive

I disabled Hibernation and moved Page file to other drive

Right now I'm using:

17.2 GB out of 59.5
or 42.2 GB FREE

This should help those wondering if a 64 GB is enough....

I'd say yes. More than enough unless you plan to put tons of games on the drive.

GREAT UPGRADE for <$50 OTD

AvidBuyer 04-12-2012 10:57 AM

For those of you with laptops I would consider swapping out the hard drive and putting the ssd in its place then placing the HDD in http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-SATA-...4775wt_795 after OS install, my hdd is broken so im going to wait until prices come down and then buying a 2TB for $80 bringing the total cost of my "solution" to $150

That is exactly what I did about 2 wks ago.
- however I ended up putting the optical drive back in because not having the optical drive when I needed it was a pain. So instead I put the 2nd hdd into a usb3 enclosure

Why not use USB with an ISO?

caychanh30 04-12-2012 11:51 AM

I don't have an Amex card, but a nice 64gb crucial m4 ssd for less than $60 OTD is slick.
Thanks OP and amazon for lowering their price to $80 today.

Yeah but ISO off a USB is so much faster and less likely to run into issues.

I have both but prefer ISO installs if possible every time.

FYI new FIRMWARE out for the m4. As of yesterday.

http://www.crucial.com/support/firmware.aspx

Version
000F

Release Date: 04/11/2012
Firmware for the m4 SSD is being updated from version 0309 to 000F. The m4 is updatable to this new firmware starting from versions 0001, 0002, 0009, or 0309 in a single step. If updating from an early version directly to 000F, all interim improvements will also be included (please see Release Notes for version 0002, 0009 and 0309 for details).
Changes between version 0309 and 000F include the following changes:
Improved compatibility with certain SAS expanders and peripheral RAID cards.
Improved throughput stability under extremely heavy workloads.
Improved data protection in the event of unexpected, asynchronous power loss.
This firmware update is recommended for all drives currently in the field if the end user is experiencing any of these symptoms.

Granted I am not talking about this SSD drive but the other day I got from Staples a delivery of Epson Printer Ink (T098920) and was shocked when there was no bubble wrap or packing stuff at all- the ink box was just put in a gray wrap (mailing package)- was amazed.

same weird flat bag here, 64GB box dented somewhat, tracking info was way off. Not as bad as the Touchpad shipments, I took some pictures of the busted boxes in case there was a damage claim.
