Canon T3i Kit (18-55 lens) $599 + Tax @ Frys *Not available for Shipping*

65534 Attachment(s)
The Canon T3i kit which includes the 18-55 mm lens is on sale at Frys.com for in store pickup and shipping (free) for $599 plus sales tax.

http://www.frys.com/product/6547673

Not quite as good as the previous $499 YMMV deal, but this one looks legit. Confirmed legit - In store price tag shows $599.

RedOctane 04-06-2012 12:14 AM

good price

hqh51 04-06-2012 12:23 AM

This is actually a hot deal since the last known legit ~ $600 sales of the Canon T3i lens kit was about a month ago on eBay. BTW, for those wondering, Fry's is on Canon's authorized dealer list. http://usa.canon.com/app/pdf/dealer/CanonAuthorizedDealers.pdf

In for one. Missed last month's deal because I woke up late. I lucked out this time because I stayed up late eating. Hahaha. Thanks for the deal OP.

hwangogen 04-06-2012 12:23 AM

In for one--definitely legit. Beats the (recently lowered) Amazon price by $150...

babar1003 04-06-2012 12:56 AM

Awesome Price! Been waiting and missing out on deals for months. In for one! Thank you!

wamo 04-06-2012 01:15 AM

It's a really great deal on a good camera. Here's a review--it's pretty in-depth, but the website gives what I consider to be very reliable and unbiased reviews: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos600d/

I hope this helps you make your decision. Keep in mind it is currently cheaper than its predecessor, the t2i.

cloudyview 04-06-2012 01:26 AM

If you're looking at getting a DSLR, this is an AMAZING entry point for the price. Much better camera than the T1/T1i/T3/XS/XSi.

cloudyview 04-06-2012 01:28 AM

I need to turn off my deal alerts...I got this on ebay 3 or 4 months ago for the same price. Wish I had cash to upgrade lenses, the kit isn't really doing it for me. It's a great value, but I want tack sharp all the time.

Stock lens is pretty sharp as far as lenses go... try stopping down your aperture a couple stops (e.g. to 5.6). You can also get the 50mm 1.8 for ~$120 and that lens is very sharp especially given the price point.

I actually have the 50 1.8...I just need to start using it more I think.

I think my issue is that I'm in AZ, and there's always so much dust/particulate in the air that it makes everything look hazy & washed out. Not sure how much a circular polarizer would help that...I know it helps with water vapor.

johnnyd91379 04-06-2012 01:44 AM

I wonder if this is a price mistake....the body without the lens is more expensive.

bbeck 04-06-2012 01:46 AM

Thanks OP. Snapped one up to replace both our XS and an older Casio P&S that had been used for video. Even with sales tax in GA, it's a nice deal.

Wow Sedona looks really beautiful. Yeah when there's physical dust or haze between you and a mountain that's far away, there aren't too many things you can do with your camera to cut through it. If you're shooting on a tripod or have a steady hand, you could take the same shot underexposed and "artfully" layer that over the hazy parts of the original to bring out some detail in the hazy sections.. at least create the illusion of removing the haze and bringing some contrast to the details.

I'll also say that if you like sharpness, a lot of that "tack sharp" in professional photos comes from a touch of post-processing--even if you're shooting on a 1.2L on a 1ds.

Nice pictures by the way!

watdog 04-06-2012 01:50 AM

This is actually a great deal, I'm going to see if I can get Bestbuy to match this for my points.

CaramelNougat 04-06-2012 02:02 AM

sears wont match because the price is hidden behind credit card checkout >_<

what do you think of the chances for amazon to come down to this?

dj-3lusion 04-06-2012 02:08 AM

no cashback involved but despite the 13 thumbs up in all honesty is this a hot deal?. Im being serious because I see all kinds of farking deals but either im not in tune with what the fark is going on or what, but say its 648 after tax is that worth the purchase?. Are you guys flipping it for gold bars or something I dont know about yet?. Im just trying to weigh in plunking down some $$$ for this or just get it somewhere else with no tax or some shit.

chheinz91 04-06-2012 02:15 AM

Site is stuck loading into review order for me ><

CaramelNougat 04-06-2012 02:16 AM

I'm the same boat as you, the sales tax is just too painful. Fingers crossed for Amazon or at least some local extra-10% type of price match guarantee ........................

Yeah there is no Frys where I live. So i couldn't replicate the deal, and had it said B+M in the title I wouldn't have even wasted my time/got my hopes up. But I think its just OOS for shipping, so its not the OP fault after all

it was NEVER AVAILABLE ONLINE to begin with.. it even says so in the picture and advert. (ADDITIONAL IN-STORE DISCOUNT APPLIED UPON CHECKOUT!!!) with that being said maybe that means its an instore deal dont you think??? either way seems to be the average price for a camera or a medium sized pizza. Now what would strike this as insanely slick like the 2% home loan would be if this had a $100 gc or $200 giftcard!. then yeah I can see all the bickering and elbowing like black friday...

funny the other guy just said he had the option to ship. And the original post says "for in store pickup and shipping (free)", so what are you talking about?

And had that been the case then like I originally said a B+M tag would have been nice to keep people who can't replicate the deal out of the thread, and prevent rants like this. Doesn't matter now...I'm here

free shipping my ass its not or was not the same price and hello there was an error while adding item. eh I can get this within 30 days at this price no real boo hoos here. Store pickup for convenience. If it was free shipping that means they had a total of 1 or 3 at best if that makes everyone feel better :).

Yip, at $650, this is a good deal. I got the Ebay one two weeks ago for $851 which included the 18-55mm, the 55-250mm, and the 50mm 1.8. It cost $200 more but you got the two extra lenses, so I would say this deal is on par, and it may be even better cause you can save the $80 on the 55-250mm, and put it towards a much better walkaround lens.

lovingmomma 04-06-2012 06:00 AM

How does this compare with the post for $790? Is the extras worth the $200 more? Thx!

Newegg Deal is better - lens is worth more than $200 plus most folks don't pay tax.

The Fry's deal is lukewarm because of tax. This camera bundle has been seen for $600 with no tax / free shipping on a couple occassions. With T4i in the works, this may be the new norm.

It is a "decent" price at $651.41 (OTD for Los Angeles buyers)

depends upon what you want to spend. i recommend buying used (at least the body) and moving up from there as you can get into the game much cheaper and still get some great gear. i started with the xsi and recently got a smoking deal on the t2i and sold my xsi on ebay. once you get more experience you'll get a better idea of what you want, etc.

You get what you paid for. You can't compare picture quality between a $200 or less camera with one $500, and that's just the body.

It's like you say "I will never ride a bus again after riding in your awesome Lexus!". Hop on any bus and ask ppl there how many of them can afford to make monthly payment on a Lexus?

dragonkid 04-06-2012 08:42 AM

Just a heads-up for the deal historians out there:

This deal was available for *free* shipping and *no tax* in my state (Iowa), at around midnight yesterday.

I didn't jump on it, because I already got in on the previous Ebay deal for 599. :P

Man, I jumped on it right after I saw this, was able to add to cart, get all the way to final checkout page showing free shipping and no tax. I hit submit and it told me shipping was unavailable. I must have missed it by seconds.

untfan 04-06-2012 09:53 AM

Went to pickup mine this morning, and confirmed the in-store price of $599 as well! The lady at the checkout said I was "lucky", as they had received a rush of pick-up orders - I told her I was probably their first order... as I ordered before I posted the deal around midnight. They opened with 9 in stock and are out - but the website shows they still have stock online.

Now to sell the T1i I am upgrading from...

Hope you find a new home for your "T1i"- I just received yesterday from OD (package came from their Tech Depot store) an extra brand new factory fresh- "Canon T3i 18-135mm Kit" OD's SKU 354559 (got a great deal- so decided to sell this one) for exactly $300.00 less than what the current pricing is on OD's website:

I just tried this and they do not PM with FRYS , as the price is shown only at final checkout with all the personal information entered.

I was considering the NEX line also but got a Rebel t2i (same thing as this camera except for a few differences like the swivel screen). The t2i just feels a lot more solid, focusing is better/faster. NEX would have been great for the form factor but it just didn't feel right to me. Didn't like the UI and a bunch of other things (although the UI may have been better than the demo model I played with... I know they made changes to the firmware).

Fry's is kind of shoddy as far as holding stuff goes anyway. Even if they agreed to a month hold (unlikely) I'm sure one of their employees would screw something up.

Just ordered one, 599+40 CA tax (gotta drive 20miles to pick it up tho). Not a bad deal.I Almost bought the refurbished one yesterday for the same price..lucky that I decided to wait..well good luck to you guys.

KenBT 04-06-2012 02:04 PM

Even though the pricing is fair/good- I'd wait- unless you need a camera this week- since they will keep dropping once the "T4i" is released- granted has been delayed a few times- but they will definitely be out before June 2012- and as early as the end of this month- it was thought to have 24MP but looks like it will be 18.1MP but with a quieter 18-135mm lens option and rumored touchscreen and built-in WiFi

mrsprewell 04-06-2012 03:32 PM

you can always order first... then return later

Nikson 04-06-2012 03:34 PM

Ordered 1 but unfortunately for the email for out of stock from Plano TX.

Iduncurr 04-06-2012 03:42 PM

If you guys don't have a Fry's nearby you can just price match it at Wal-mart/Best Buy/Target.

Target has the 5% red card
Best Buy has the RZ points
and Wal-mart...well it has the most lenient return policy if you are on the fence about it. Typically doesn't have restocking fees on most electronics.

Personally, I think I'm waiting for a drop in price for the Nikon D5100...faster shutter speed and it can record video 2x as much compared to the T3i. Plus, I kind of have a nikon lense from a previous purchase.

and Wal-mart...well it has the most lenient return policy if you are on the fence about it. Typically doesn't have restocking fees on most electronics.

Personally, I think I'm waiting for a drop in price for the Nikon D5100...faster shutter speed and it can record video 2x as much compared to the T3i. Plus, I kind of have a nikon lense from a previous purchase.

I don't think any of these stores will price match for Frys.com that too without any evidence. I don't have frys store in my state or near by state.. so no way Walmart or BestBuy is going to price match..

Right. They will only price match within the same county here.

if this was for $499 then hell yeah id be heading to target in a heartbeat, however $599 and my redcard max is $500 lol cant do shit really @ target. ill just wait another 4 - 6 months :) or find a desperate junkie whos pawning one for drug money :D

Guitar1969 04-06-2012 03:59 PM

Its a good deal for this model camera, but considering there's a lot of talk about price drops because of a rumored T4i just on the horizon, gonna hold my ground. I think there are going to be more sales on this camera in the near future, but if you need it right now, go for it, depending on what your needs are. I have done a lot of research on this camera and what kills it for me is that it doesn't have video Autofocus - I want a DSLR that autofocuses, and they are starting to crop up.

Got my confirmation email that mine was in store, and i had until the 9th to pick it up at this price. while i was walking up to the register i got call from an employee asking if i still wanted my item, i told him yes, and he said,"well i guess i will tell this customer that we don't have any in stock." The cashier left to retrieve my camera, and came back empty handed, saying they have no more left. Another employee said he was trying to find it, and mentioned it must have been someone from AV that called me, i am guessing the "customer" was the employee and was trying to hide it for themselves. I waited there for over 20 minutes and none of the employee's could look me in the eye and give me straight answers, but they finally brought me my t3i.

SDkilla 04-06-2012 05:55 PM

Well I don't know where you have been looking but finding a "Canon T3i 18-135mm Kit" is not $800 everyday of the week at any Canon Authorized Dealer- this isn't the entry level "18-55mm lens Kit"

Nikon D5100 can record 24-25 minutes of HD Video (if you have the memory card big enough to hold those files) while Canon T3i only holds 12 minutes? Or something like that, I can't remember specs off the top of my head and my internet is acting up.

I really do not need another camera. But this is such a good deal. So I went to Sears and had them price match Frys. Sears has 110% price match policy. So I got the kit for $580. We have no sale tax in Oregon.

How did you pricematch it at Sears - did you have them call the Frys store or did you have to go through the checkout process to see the final price on the internet at the store...?

They (sears) called our nearest FRYS. First to ask for the price of the item in this case $599. Second thing they ask is if the item is available. That's it nothing else, all you have to do is ask for the price match guarantee discount and you're done. My wife is not a SD'er and she was able to do it :woot:

Whoa slow down... He didn't mean any harm in this deal. He's just saying that he "felt" it was better for him to obtain a T3i + 18-135mm for $799 (usually $1099 MSRP), rather than getting this deal for $599 (usually $899 MSRP)

P.S. posting near spring mtn :P

I would bite on this in an instant but I have no Frys in my area :(

fgld73 04-07-2012 10:48 AM

Went to my local Sears store to get this camera with a price match to Frys as several others had posted. I was turned down as the manager said the Frys store was not local, nearest store was about 120 miles away. He said if the Frys store was local the price match plus 10% of difference would not be a problem. So guess this is YMMV. Real disappointment since I spent $20 in gas for the wasted trip. Think I will try my local Walmart to see if they will do a price match.

I just got BB to price match it. Best buy's price match is any store within 25 miles. The Frys in Oregon is 8 miles from the Best buy so it's not a big issue. They did call and verify frys had it in stock. Turns out they had one left :) Plus I get my reward zone points for this purchase.

yes we called Fry's to confirm the price since it doesn't show the price online or in the paper. Of course Fry's is sold out of them but since it is a regular item and not a clearance item, Sears manager was nice enough to match the price with Fry's. If you look at Sears price match guarantee as long as an item is a regular and not a clearance and the competitor (fry's in this case) will price match it by 110%. Look at my receipt if you don't believe me :)

Found it; both cameras have a 4gb max file size limitation. However, Nikon records @ ~20-24 megabits for video bitrate (meaning ~25 min till that max), whereas Canon records @ 48 megabits (they hit their max @ 12 min). Both a blessing and curse, I suppose...

Canon limits the recording time as not to hurt their camcorder sales.

some say it's tax and regulation issue.

others say it's sensor overheating, which is a myth.

The 12 min limitation is a file size limitation. Do the math! You could record @ 480p and get 24 min I believe. And you could install Magic Lantern to lower bitrate, and therefore have longer recording time before reaching 4gb size.

However, the more common 29 min 59 sec limitation is due to the "camcorder tax" that the UK (and Europe?) has. If its more than 30 min = video recording device = higher tax than "camera" device.

tried to use sears price match at cupertino (surrounded by several fry's). so the sears guy (once we found him) was helpful and polite, but needed us to call up the actual price on the fry's site. because it is sold out in every fry's from california to georgia, i could not demonstrate the price (only shown at final checkout). frys is closed today due to easter so he didn't call. i even showed him the previous poster's actual sears receipt and the title of the SD thread. ah well. i was not successful in doing the price match.

i think the sears salesperson was reasonable and i did learn about the price match which i did not know before. and i do hope either low prices will come around again or the t4i will be amazing. thanks to the guy who explained how to work with the sears store managers.

Start off w/ the 50mm f/1.8. It's the cheapest lens you can get (~$100ish), and probably the lens you will learn the most with. Use this lens to figure out what kind of shots you (personally) take the most. Shots too close? You might want something wider.. maybe a 30mm f/1.4 or a 10-22mm ultrawide lens. Shots too far? You might want something more in zoom, like a 85mm f/1.8 or a 70-200mm lens.

Yes, I have one and I would say I'm a Intermediate level in photography. The camera itself is simple to use and explains what each feature does. Also, the book that comes with the kit explains more of the question/doubts you have in photography.

The flippy screen is probably the most important feature for those who want to see how they're going to look before a pic is taken, and is also good for filming if one needs to flip the screen/tilt to see with the camera.

100% get it. It is MADE IN JAPAN

as another has recommended the canon 50mm f1.8 II is a good buy, beginner's lens.
of course this kit comes with a stock 18-55mm lens, but the Tamron 17-50mm is a little lighter and faster, gonna cost you more.
the Tamron 28-75mm is also a great lens, will cost you too ~500 on amazon.

I thought that was a limitation of the card format cameras use. I know fat32 has a file size limit of 4 go which I what I thought cameras used. Am I wrong?

I might be wrong because you'd think a camera manufacturer would smarten up and use exFat if that was case.

I think even with exFAT it will still only do 4gb.

It's the lowest end canon DSLR with remote flash capabilities, which is a great tool in itself.

it's an european tax issue.

if it were to exceed certain lengths (i believe 30 minutes) it would be classified as a camcorder which has much much higher taxes.
the 4gb limit is to avoid having to split the video up on fat32 partitioned cards. (as demonstrated with the new high end canon dslrs, the camera will automatically split the video once it exceeds 4gb)

sensor heating is an issue, though how much it actually affects canon is debatable, but it was a serious problem with a couple of Sony models.

Six6Sicks 04-09-2012 12:40 PM

Just picked this up in Illinois even though my local Frys is out of stock. Showed the Sears salesman that they had them at the Frys in California and they matched. Also -$20.00 additional.

Great deal.

realdaddy 04-09-2012 02:21 PM

I live around where theres a bunch on fry's stores all having t3i OOS.

Do other stores need Fry's to have this item in stock for PM?

Any tips on where i could try PM?

ruv 04-09-2012 04:19 PM

I called Fry's in Oregon this morning and was told they were out of stock. I asked if I could get a rain check and was told by the receptionist that i could in fact get a rain check on the T3i for $599. I asked to have a manager call me to confirm, so I didn't have to make the ridiculous drive for nothing. That was 4 hours ago, haven't heard anything.

I tried calling every Sears in the area to see if they'd pricematch, but they said Fry's needs to have the camera in stock. Best Buy said the same thing. Walmart, Target, and Ritz said they needed a print ad. Oh well, I'm thinking of doing the Canon Loyalty program. They sell a T3i for $544. Or should I expect the same price to pop up again?

odysseyelite 04-09-2012 04:26 PM

Sears wouldn't pricematch since Frys was OOS. Tried calling sears in Houston, but I had to do the PM in person. Even though my brother had them PM things in the past and ship to store.

Great deal.

What did you say\ show to PM to another state? I was told teh store had to be within 20 miles.

I was told the same thing. they wouldn't budge. it's as if they'd thrown that line out a few times already.

M4rk3dMan 04-09-2012 05:57 PM

Just picked it up through PM at Sears in Los Angeles. The rep called up Frys in Burbank and apparently they had it in-stock. She verified the price in-store and I got it for $578.90 before tax.

brownbuffalo 04-09-2012 06:04 PM

Which Sears was it?

Baldwin Hills Mall - Crenshaw Plaza, Los Angeles. She informed me they only had "this one" in-stock, but I wasn't sure if she was just saying it.

I went to Sears in Spring Hill Mall in Dundee, IL.
I asked the salesman if they price-matched...they do. I explained to him the deal at Fry's but that 1, you needed to get to the online checkout to confirm the sale price which you need a log in, and 2, the closest Fry's (20 miles away) showed out of stock online, but a store in California showed in stock.

He said they usually only match local stores and that obviously California was not local.
He stepped away for about 10 minutes, came back and called his manager, he told her that he called the local Fry's and they said that they did have them in stock, even though online showed out of stock.

Now if this was indeed the case, then that's fantastic. Personally I don't think he called, I think he was just super nice.

Either way, got the deal from Fry's, matched by Sears. They also take an extra $20.00 off as part of their "price match", awesome.

Total was $637.96 which included a super low end 4GB SDHC Card that I paid $7.99 for. BUY A HIGH END ONE! I couldn't record 1080P for more than 6 seconds because it could not transfer the data fast enough lol. I already knew this but I wanted to take some pics today and not wait for my Class 10 32GB one to arrive in a few days.

So....

Camera Kit: $599.99
Price Match: -$20.00
SDHC card: $7.99
Tax: $59.98

$637.96.

whatisthebigq 04-09-2012 07:03 PM

Just bought one from the frys at houston. Had previously gone to the sears on sunday for PM but since they couldn't call frys to verify because they were closed, they refused... also were pretty rude like i was stealing from them or something.. so i decided to just go to frys and pick it up.. 599.99+tax... plus the guy sold me on a caselogic for $30 with 15% off this week... so total including tax came out to about $677.. i might return the bag though once i look online.. i've had enough of the "search"... i guess prices will obviously fall the longer you wait.. so if you need it now, go buy it at this good price.. if not, you could always wait for the 'rumoured' t4i.. which might make amazon, etc to lower this to say 599 no tax.. either way.. good luck... also if you are still stuck at the nikon d5100 vs the canon t3i.. you won't go wrong with either esp. if you are just a beginner.. the advanced folks probably already know what they want.. also the t3i is not enough of an upgrade from the t2i for beginners.. so if you find that one cheaper go for that.. if not, go for this deal.. also the d5100 can be found on cameta and adorma refurbished for sub 600 through the year..

i have to say though that frys15 day return policy sucks.. also if i break the seal to open the box then i have to pay a 15% restocking fee even within the 15 days.. frys - you suck :( so i'm not opening it for the next week or so just in case..

dragon911 04-09-2012 07:19 PM

Jus picked up on from local frys. Thanks

YES- they will keep dropping- since if you haven't kept up- sometime between the end of this month and June 2012- the Canon T4i series will be released.

t2i and t3i are pretty much the same, with t3i having mainly the additions of the swivel LCD screen, remote flash control.
Average price is about $100 difference between t2i and t3i. It's up to the user to determine if they can justify these additional functions with $100 difference.
$599 is a great price for t3i at the moment.

I would say at $599 it is a fair price

I also got a raincheck for the T3i at $599 in fountain valley, but I'm worried that with all this talk about the T3i being discontinued they won't restock on T3i's.

Is this a possibility or am I just overreacting?

Canon is not discontinuing it, just coming out with a newer model. So, Don't worry T3i will still be around. There is also a chance that canon may not drop T3i's price (or increase it), as if there is huge difference in the price of T3i and T4i, people may not buy T4i.

Thanks OP!
The Fry's at the City of Industry restocked and I got one. Not sure how many they restocked but as soon as I ordered one, it went back to unavailable. I saw Burbank was also available too, but that also went back OOS.

Not sure if I want to keep the camera though, so I don't plan on opening it right away. Does anyone know how long I have from the date of purchase to register the camera for warranty?

Doubt it's a restock, probably a return. That's that happened to me this morning - thought they got more in, it was an open box returns that they claimed not to be able to further discount because of the sale price being so low.

It's still waiting at the store I assume. I made mention on canceling it, but they said it would be returned to store stock after 2 days.

irvingdizzle 04-10-2012 04:30 PM

I see. Did you go to the same store as me? How did you check that it was a returned item? Don't they apply that sticker that prevents you from opening the package when you pick it up?

That's where I went! They said they had to tell people it's out of stock if the item is on hold. He said he gave me the "last one." It's a conspiracy! Oh well. At least I got a new and sealed one. I'm still happy.

I would suggest that you just go to the store and ask. You might get lucky and they have it stashed away somewhere. If they don't have it then you can always get a rain check. Today is the last day of the sale so it would be best to go as soon as you can.

They don't like to pick up, or they have 1 person manning the phones. I tried calling them 3 times yesterday. I waited about 15 minutes each time...

irvingdizzle 04-12-2012 07:57 PM

They don't have any. I just got a rain check a little while ago from there. They ignored me at first, and said they couldn't give me one. I talked to the manager in the customer service and he guaranteed me that I could get one. I now have until May 12th to get one at this price :)

I got my raincheck at another location as well. They had me buy it at full price and then did the price differance becuse the rain check #'s do not cross to different stores. I said I could buy it and go return\rebuy at the other store but I shouldn't have to. To me Fry's is Fry's, one company.

The deal ended yesterday. Keep an eye out for more deals on the T3i. I've been shopping on SD for several weeks and I've seen several deals for this camera. The steal was several weeks ago when it went on sale for $499 (wrong product on a Fry's ad).

Yeah the Fry's Ad deal was a steal- when I special ordered my "3" (went into an OD store to special order- in a timeframe of 2 weeks- "3 T3i 18-135mm Kits" from OD- their SKU 354559)- that deal was a "HEIST" much better than a steal deal- but what I am getting again for myself is the upcoming "T4i w/ their new 18-135mm real quiet lens" which may hit stores as early as the end of this month or the latest in June.

I think the MSRP will be close to what the MSRP is for the current T3i w/ 18-135mm lens which is $1049. Personally even if it was $300.00 more than what I paid for the "3" T3i w/ 18-135mm lens Kits- it would be a deal for me.
