OUT OF STOCK

In the box there is a pink slip that says no cables are included, however most people did get a box with DVI, USB, VGA, Power cord included from the last deal so don't go rushing out buying cables before you dismantle the whole box :D (some guy did from last deal)

For those that decide to get in on this deal (got in last time good buy!) and wanting to know what/how to adjust their monitors I have found a handy site.

wow that's awesome - 2 questions since i have never purchased a refurb monitor:
1. is 90 day warranty a concern?
2. is a refurb monitor still have an excellent display?

i have purchased many dell refurb laptops and have been happy just want to make sure the monitor quality is the same - thanks!

AMAF21 05-22-2012 11:15 AM

The last refurbished U2311H monitor I received looked brand new.

I got in on this the last time it was posted here, and the monitor looks brand new. This is the best value you'll find for a 23" monitor.

the difference between any ips monitor and any TN monitor is like night and day ... that being said, this uses a cheaper e-ips panel which is not on the same level as 2412 but still sufficient for most people

its like having any SSD is many times faster than any mechanical HDD, but there is different levels of SSD performance

rylarson 05-22-2012 12:28 PM

I cant find it... OOS?

rbraden 05-22-2012 12:30 PM

I have 2 setup from the last deal on a dual monitor stand. Quite awesome. Both of mine are perfect and I honestly forgot that they were refurbished until reading this thread just now.

DaMeat 05-22-2012 12:33 PM

in 4 4. rep...

messymitch 05-22-2012 12:38 PM

Mines rocking hard from last deal. Like someone else said hard to see this was a refurb.

dching 05-22-2012 12:41 PM

Got one last time as well. I agree it looks and works like a new monitor even though it was refurbished. You just have to make sure once you get it to test it out and make sure it works to your satisfaction within the 90 day warranty period. Great deal.

Fpoama 05-22-2012 12:41 PM

Missed out on this deal last month, in for one now. Thanks OP.

Still, in for one though. If it doesn't come with cables, I'd be :(

SimplyShane 05-22-2012 12:50 PM

I can't find it anywhere.

It appears the deal is dead.

djryval 05-22-2012 12:50 PM

Anyone know if this monitor will work with older Dell XP boxes? For example, I have a Dimension 4400 still running on XP, but I also have a new Win7 box as well hooked up to one of those A/V switches so I can use the same monitor for both machines.

I just did a search on Dell's webpage..

What the hell? This sucks! I'm ready to buy!

I guess it varies then. I was one of the "last deal people" and got power, DVI, and VGA in both of my boxes. Maybe they only include them for people who already have a bunch of them lying around and have no use for them :)

It's always a gamble...I've just had so many Dell monitors over the years, including many refurbs, and never had a single problem with any of them. I'm just now selling a 2005fpw and a 1907fp that these replaced. Each of them got pretty heavy use for 5+ years. and work like a champ to this day.

antsk 05-22-2012 01:08 PM

NO!! I missed it again!! I hope more come back in stock....

Borracho 05-22-2012 01:09 PM

I ended up buying one just to check out the IPS panel. I didn't want to "upgrade" a 24" to a 23", because TN is plenty enough for me, but for $150, it was hard to resist. TU

It was about 7000+ hours on the 'monitor backlight on' ...

Yes it does up go very high.

plus i just ordered this LG IPS monitor from newegg about 3 days ago.

toyakumar 05-22-2012 01:25 PM

Got one the last time this deal was available. the monitor looks flawless- no scratches, dead pixels, dents. It did however come in a refurbished box, so I am not fooling myself into thinking it was new. No regrets, awesome price.

Does anybody know of a cheap way to calbriate these things?

Will you have an IPS next to a TN?

If no, then no, they are not night and day. The comparison between SSD and HDD is faulty. Its more of a WD Raptor vs an "eco-friendly" HDD.

My wife has an Apple computer that supposedly has an IPS panel, and I have not noticed all that much of a difference compared to my non-IPS monitor. You still loose viewing quality off-angle on the Apple, although not as much compared to a non-IPS panel. Off angle viewing isn't a big concern for me because I don't sit off to the side when working with the monitor, so depending on your usage, IPS may or may not be a significant draw.

had one in my cart buddy. Decided i want at least a 24''. Willing to pay a little more if it is x1200 reso or in new condition. Wonder what i can get for my 2311 hp monitor. Never mind i bought it. Anyone wanna buy me hp monitor?

namlook 05-22-2012 01:40 PM

Picked up three of these the last time when they were $133. Can't beat three 23" IPS monitors for around $400.

They are pretty nice in portrait mode. 3240 x 1920.

randomhey 05-22-2012 01:41 PM

I love mine. I bought it way back when they were $250 ish. No regrets at all.

I had been using TN panels prior but needed something with better color since I started doing some graphic art, but wanted to keep it cheap. Great investment. At this price hard to fault at all.

Medic311 05-22-2012 01:43 PM

one of you lucky fellas will be getting my busted U2311H

it was a battle with Dell to get them to agree to accept the return b/c they felt it wasn't a defect. so chances are their refurb factory technicians will feel the same way tech support does and it will get a wipe down and thrown back into the box

i feel sorry for the person who gets it lol

zar 05-22-2012 01:47 PM

IPS panels have better colors but just because a monitor uses an IPS panel, that doesn't mean that the colors are accurate. You really need a colorimeter to calibrate the screens to get the most out of these monitors.

randomhey 05-22-2012 01:47 PM

Some people are really anal, others not so much. lol. Maybe the person who gets it will feel it isn't a defect either.

brainchow 05-22-2012 01:53 PM

got this about a week ago at full price of around 180 shipped (doh!), but just got a price match from dell. i can vouch personally that this monitor is stunning. colors are rich, blacks are deep, viewing angles are superb. mines looks brand spanking new, no signs of wear and nothing anywhere saying it was refurbished, which i think is a little strange.

Racerbob 05-22-2012 01:58 PM

Luck of the draw I guess. I got three of these monitors last time and each one had the following cables in a smaller box inside the shipping box:

DVI
USB
VGA
Power cord

I had to do two warranty exchanges, where they sent refurbished monitors, and my monitors looked new as well. The newer ones seem to have better back-light even-ness, but all of the panels I've received have had a greenish tint in areas after calibration that's exaggerated by the AG coating

coronakid 05-22-2012 02:15 PM

Just bought one a few minutes ago so keep refreshing if you want one. It came to $154 for delivery to California which included an $8 donation to Jerry Brown and his cronies to waste away on some idiotic bureaucracy.

Gigamaster89 05-22-2012 02:16 PM

I've got the input cables lying around but definitely not a power cable.

Likely wouldn't be a problem anyway as Dell will take it back.

Dartman 05-22-2012 02:19 PM

I have a LG version with similar specs and I can say the main difference between it and the Acer 23" I had before is the off angle viewing and the color is more accurate. Mine also has LED back lighting and it's very nice and white but does have a bit of back light bleed in one corner but not bad enough for me to send it back. I also think the black level with a IPS panel is a bit better, but they both have very similar black level, just the minute you go off angle the Acer looks much worse. It does depend on the quality of the panel you end up with and the back light but even a TN panel can look pretty nice straight on if it's a quality build.

I'd say it's an 80% of success. 90 day warranty is enough to take a chance on a good monitor.

Squaretrade is only $1 month for two years if you use a coupon.

Caleo 05-22-2012 02:53 PM

I want an IPS to go with my Dell 2408wfp.. but tbh, I'm kinda hoping this doesn't show up for me as my cc balance is already $470 this month and I don't like having to pay off a >500 balance heh

Yes I experienced the same as you. Took me almost 15 minutes of refreshing and clicked 23"

Don't tell my boss.

Yes basically reload with F5 then select 23 then repeat.

There's a SD thread where people post 30% codes up to $30. They are usually good on Tuesdays. Also if you get on squaretrade's mailing list you get the codes mailed to you each week.

Check the number of items, (I think it was 26), keep refrshing until the number changes then whennit does click the 23" button to narrow down.

how did you find the HM for $200? List is $300

cherishzm 05-22-2012 03:01 PM

I got the same monitor from the last deal and the monitor indeed looks like new from cosmetic standpoint. I could not find any signs of usage.

However, I have found the brightness to be a concern for long-term usage. I have to have the brightness at 100% and contrast at 85%. It looks great at the current setting, but I'm not sure if it'll be as bright as it is now for years to come.. Considering how long this refurbished monitor could have been used before I got it, I'm little concerned the longevity of it.

Even with the brightness concern, this is one of the best 23" monitors you can get for the money! If I could grab the newer version with LED backlight for little more money, I'd prefer that to be my choice.

I have herd people get brand new monitors (even the box) on the last deal. Personally my experience form the last deal is my monitor is perfect (no dead pixels, bleeding) but there is a scratch on the right bezel and on the toggle buttons. It is not really deep so i didnt even see it until I got really close. If you have the funds and need a new monitor I say go for it! :woot:

Roja 05-22-2012 03:14 PM

Got it last time. I have to say, i am impressed with the quality. I dont need another one. But still tempted to get it.

FullTiltBoogie 05-22-2012 03:14 PM

FYI, I got one last time for a friend of mine. It was in brand new condition. Set it next to my Samsung 24" LED and was astounded by the difference in colors.

Three for me this time. Samsung goes on CL.

I am totally in the same boat. Do not need one what so ever, but so blown away by the quality that I want another :bounce: This had made me realize how grainy bit LED/Plasma's are in showrooms where as I drooled over them before this monitor.

allen074 05-22-2012 03:18 PM

ok i got one after 3.2 million refreshes - I really, really wanted the 2412m but to save $150 it just seemed like this will work - I am coming from a 1901FP dell that I think I have had for 8 yrs.

thanks op - can't wait to get it and crosses fingers that it works well

I have that set-up right now. Something to keep in mind, sometimes monitors don't come with the exact same "tint" so to speak. For example, with these monitors, I got one monitor built in 2010 and another in 2011. No matter how much I tweak each monitor, blacks don't match up quite right. They still look wonderful, but they look a bit different.

I bought both brand new fyi.

Anyone else having trouble with the coupon code? I'm entering it in, and it is not being applied. When I click on details, it says that it cannot be combined with any other coupon. Is the free shipping coupon preventing me from getting the 20% off?

The thing is, I don't have my current non-IPS monitor brightness setting turned up all the way, so added brightness likely would not be used. And as mentioned, when working with the monitor, I sit in front of it, not off to the side. Also I picked my monitor (ViewSonic) because it appeared the best in terms of color shift/dimming compared to other non-IPS monitors I tested. Maybe you have seen where a monitor has less brightness/fading near the top and bottom edges of the screen? Mine does not have that in normal usage. Possibly that is why I don't find the IPS features all that compelling, but to each his own.

Really, the only reason I need an IPS monitor is for the color reproduction and viewing angles while doing graphic/web design, I don't see any other reason otherwise. VA panels for watching movies (deeper blacks). TN for gaming/general use.

Been looking fine for me the past 2 months.

I'll try to change the settings tomorrow (it's my work monitor) and see how it looks but definitely brightness at 21 would look too dim. :roll eyes: If brightness setting at 21 doesn't look ok at all, is it possibly a defective monitor then??

For most Dell monitors, turn off the monitor. Hold down Menu and (+) then power on. Release all buttons, and press (-) to access the menu.

For some older Dells, turn off the monitor, hold down Menu and (+) then power on. Release all buttons, and press Menu, then navigate to Factory Reset and you should see an option for Factory.

For some HP monitors, turn off the monitor, hold Menu while turning on. Release menu and press it again, and there will be a Service... option.

For all others use Google and search for service menu.

Well if it is a brightly lit room (or have a window behind it) then you might need to crank up the brightness. Other than that I do not see why you would need it to be so high. I say give it a day (at least an hour) before you decide if you like it. When I got my monitor the first thing I did was crank it up to 100% (because it looked nice) However after doing some digging on the web I settled with the brightness at 30. Right after I did the adjustment I thought to myself this can't be right it looks so dim! But lo and behold 5 minutes later I did not even notice the dimmer monitor (in fact my eyes were less strained) and I have been happy with it at 30 since. I posted some links and forms on this topic in the wiki if you have time please check them out. Good luck tomorrow and don't spend too much time detracted from work fiddling with your monitor

You misunderstand me. TN panels lose the 3 things I listed when viewed at extreme angles.

My TN panel has some pretty bad color/contrast shift even from a normal position if you simply straighten your back and raise your head an inch.

Here's a picture of my two monitors, one on the left is a P-MVA Dell 2408wfp panel..
http://localhostr.com/files/Q1DSARF/monitors.jpg The one on the right is a TN panel. They're similarly bright viewed head on, but from any angle the TN panel has huge shifts in viewing quality.

Even head on the TN panel doesn't look that great.

Cool. My Dell 2408wfp shows:

Backlight on time: 11,250h 44m
Monitor on time: 33,449h 6m

Shit, that's 469 days straight backlight time, and 3.8 years in on/standby. AND IT'S STILL CAPABLE OF BEING ABSURDLY BRIGHT.

Not to brag, but your time made me feel better (was mad at the guy who got a 24H monitor) Thank you :woot:

And as mentioned, when working with the monitor, I sit in front of it, not off to the side. Also I picked my monitor (ViewSonic) because it appeared the best in terms of color shift/dimming compared to other non-IPS monitors I tested. Maybe you have seen where a monitor has less brightness/fading near the top and bottom edges of the screen? Mine does not have that in normal usage. Possibly that is why I don't find the IPS features all that compelling, but to each his own.

The color vibrancy and contrast are hugely different. Have you ever compared a photo using a non-IPS vs IPS? The color on an IPS is very accurate. So pretty much what you print is what you get. It is great for movies/photo editing and etc.

I've taken a picture to compare and contrast an IPS monitor vs a non-IPS. You be the judge.

If it were easy to make comparison photos like this, I'd be inclined to say it speaks volumes. Unfortunately it's a lot easier to exaggerate the difference via a photo than to accurately convey the difference the human eye would see between IPS and TN

Of course a human eye is not comparable to a camera lens. The photo i showed you isn't the best way to show the difference since i am taking a picture of a monitor after all. However, it does give you a base assumption of where to start and see the difference. Since you don't have access of an iPS monitor to compared to your non-iPS, I am only showing you what I have at my disposal. Just read up a bunch of articles on them and then you'll see more.

Yeah, I get your point. When shopping for my monitor, I noticed some larger TN panels were bad enough that the upper and lower edges of the screen were already losing some brightness/contrast even if you looked mostly head on at the screen. You had to really view it from the "sweat spot" so to speak and not move around much. I will say, my ViewSonic is better than some other TN in that regard, in particular I bought it because it had less of that effect. When shopping I spent a good hour at Frys and Microcenter standing in front of various monitors and moving around, lol. But IPS seems even better in that regard, and long as there are no broken bright pixels in these refurbs, you can't argue much with the IPS price in this case. Thanks for the photo sample.

Gigamaster89 05-22-2012 07:12 PM

OT but...is it possible that there are TN panels with good viewing angles?

I have a Vizio TV/monitor that is advertised as a TN panel with 170/160 viewing angles but I can tell you for a fact that besides very minor color shifting, the viewing angles are much larger. This is very apparently when compared to my Dell laptop which gets completely blown out when you view it 10 degrees from straight on.

But just that both of my 24" are at 7000+ hours. That is alot!

I guess I got lucky. I checked all three of my U2311h refurbs and the back light on times are:

24 hrs
80 hrs
53 hrs

The bezels are in like new condition. Can't see any dings, scratches or defects. Would be interesting to hear what other people's back light times are on these dell refurbs. You can check by powering off the monitor and pushing buttons 1,3,5 at the same time.

How close to they look to each other side by side? Color wise.

I haven't used them much yet but they look identical to me in terms of color. All three are REV A01.

My Dell 2408wfp bought last week:

Backlight on time: 6218h
Monitor on Time: 48075h

Yes, I have to tone down my monitor brightness cause its so bright.

This is scary with so many hours on it.

So far I have bought two 2480wfp and three 2007fp from Dell and none had died, so knock of the wood.

frpeebles 05-22-2012 08:30 PM

48 000 hours = 5.47581853 years. Is the monitor actually that old? Could the counter be bogus?

I got one of these monitors last time and it's very good, awesome deal, color, and no bad pixels.

What is the exact procedure to check the backlight time? I can't find it anywhere in the menu.

it took me awhile to figure out since some people werent really clear on it. Pretty much u power the monitor off then press the (from top to bottom) 1, 3, and 5 (which is the power button) simultaneously. Then let go of the 5 first, then 1 and 3 afterwards.

heheman3000 05-22-2012 10:54 PM

Ok, that works on my U2311H (with a small adjustment: when off, press 5 when holding 1,3, then release 5). Shows a 190H on time since I bought it in the last deal, which means it was pretty much new (or reset.)

But it doesn't work for my U2312HM. That is a new monitor, but just wanted to verify the time was right.

Mako1215 05-22-2012 11:00 PM

For people buying multiple don't forget the $300 + $50 GC sale going on.

I don't think Dell resets their refurbs since other people are reporting thousands of hours on some of the other refurbs. I think we got lucky and got almost brand new returns.

cherishzm 05-23-2012 05:45 AM

Mine says
Back Light on Time 255H 1M
Power Count 32AC 37DC

peetsjunkie 05-23-2012 08:38 AM

wow... mine only shows 42 hours and i've been using it for a few weeks now. Nice.. thanks for that tip!

My refurb looked brand new too with the cables, some reported no cables included.

How does this monitor compare to the U2312HM which I currently have in my cart ?

DJHall 05-23-2012 01:55 PM

In 4 one! Thanks OP. I'm an amatuer photographer and I have been looking for a good buy on a Dell 23" or 24". If I like the refurb that arrives, I'll basically be getting an IPS panel for the price of a TN.

thangcb88 05-23-2012 02:00 PM

Hmm , how can mine shows ~40 months when i bought it BNIB and used for barely a year ?

And what's nice about these is you can go portrait mode with the stock stand.

How did you calculate 40 months if the readout is in hours? It's showing around 28,000 hours? That would be 40 months if on 24/7.

thangcb88 05-23-2012 07:23 PM

Actually i did not calculate that , it just showed that on the screen while i was pressing 1-3-5 at the same time ( cant really remember the hrs , ard 3-4k something ) . And now the result changes to " 3293H 3 M " ??

3293 hours is 137 days.

Interesting... mine appears to be shipped. I ordered a U2311H (checked to make sure!) and they appear to be sending me a U2312HM

Not sure if this is a good or bad thing.

I was reading reviews for the monitor before purchasing this and came across a lot of people saying that they purchased a U2311H but Dell sent them U2312HM. I think U2312HM replaced the U2311H and the quality is very similar.
