CONFIRMED: Update available for Amazon Appstore users.

TIP!: Update your language packs after updating!
At least for me, chillllout, Swiftkey wasn't addressing contractions (ie I'm, they're, you're, aren't). Simply go to the Swiftkey settings and update your language packs- bam! Work like a champ, love this keyboard.

ponyboy10 06-21-2012 07:52 AM

LOVE this keyboard. FYI, if you had Swiftkey X, this update to 3 is free. IMHO, this is well worth the sale price, but previous versions have also been the Amazon FAOTD as well as in the Play store $0.10 sale.

RadYOacTiVe 06-21-2012 07:58 AM

Awesome keyboard, paid full price and it was worth it. The word prediction is like it's reading your mind!

SpinControl 06-21-2012 08:44 AM

I got the old version when it was 0.99 or free (Amazon or Google Play specials) as I loved SWYPE on FROYO.

However, for Gingerbread (at least), I notice that SWYPE beta, SWIFTKEY, and SlideIT all fail to work a lot. Basically, when I hit the entry box, no keyboard pops up. I need to change back to the Android keyboard in order to do any entry.

I've switched to TouchPal and all has been fine (so far).

pezdukie 06-21-2012 08:52 AM

I've been using this Swiftkey 3 beta for a month or so now; it's even better than previous versions. The space corrections are pretty amazing. As others have mentioned, this is (in my opinion), by far the best keyboard for Android phones. As a college undergrad I'm always amazed at how well Swiftkey has learned my fat, drunken, fingers and spits out exactly what I meant to say.

thanks for reminding me to check for updates - I just updated from version 2.x for free...this keyboard is def worth a buck ninety-nine.

metaldood 06-21-2012 10:42 AM

I love Thumb Keyboard ..much better in layout and such. But could use better predictability.

nyrmetros 06-21-2012 10:45 AM

Swiftkey is awesome. Worth it.

dr.girish 06-21-2012 10:48 AM

does it work on kindle fire?

HetfieldJ 06-21-2012 10:48 AM

It's the best keyboard available in Google play. Certainly better than SWYPE and Multiling.

If you haven't yet, you may want to have it scan your sms or email history. It can "learn" words and phrases you've used in the past.

I got Swiftkey X holiday time for .10 from the play store. How do I upgrade/update to this version?

NM - figured it out. The update is not from Swiftkey X but directly from 3.

hp79 06-21-2012 11:20 AM

Got it for free as I already had Swiftkey X from previous Amazon FAOTD.
When I check running applications, it shows up 69 MB is being used just for this keyboard app. Is it supposed to be this big?
I was using a Korean keyboard that uses only 8 MB instead of the default Samsung keyboard on my Note takes about 20MB and thought that was too big for a keyboard.

mine is at 58mb, but I wouldnt look too much into it. It does have a strong prediction engine and other features that take up memory. As long as youre not running a 4 year old phone, you should be fine on ram

zeth006 06-21-2012 11:28 AM

I'm guessing this is only for one phone? And only for this version?

Best to buy it now regardless. Planning to keep my phone around for at least another year.

Nope, as with other apps, you can pay once and download it to every device on your market account (assuming they're all using the same account, that is).

BTW, how does this compare to free Swype?

Swype Beta

It's personal preference. I tried both an prefer Swype. I also think it's somewhat dependent on screen and finger size. Larger screens and smaller fingers will be able touch type faster using something like SwiftKey while smaller screens and larger fingers will be able to drag across more easily using Swype.

FYI, I have been using the Swype Beta version and like it quite a bit more than the stock Swype that came on my Samsung phone. If you didn't like the previous version, you may give the beta a go, it's free anyway.

FatCity 06-21-2012 11:45 AM

I installed the free trial version on my Optimus V, but while I was still setting it up, SwiftKey announced that the trial period had expired. Is there actually a free trial version with this new release?

mrstangblb 06-21-2012 11:45 AM

I've been using SwiftKey's beta for a few weeks, too. Definitely the best I've used!

I think I'm going to stick with swiftkey for a while. Swype even with autocorrect turned off has lately been giving me problems.

Open up the Amazon App on your phone > click the menu button on your phone > go to My Apps > Click on Update Available tab below the search bar on the top of the application.

The update showed there for me today. If you don't see it there, go into all apps and look for the update there.

+1 for Thumb Keyboard. A recent update has made the prediction much better for me. I have tried Swiftkey a few times and tried this version the past few days. I find myself spending longer trying to type the correct words than with Thumb Keyboard. Everyone will have their preference, so try them all and make your own.

I had a Galaxy Nexus with Ice Cream Sandwich and stuck with the Stock keyboard, as it performed very well for me.

Thanks & repped for taking the time.

Unfortunately it didn't work for me.

I read some of the recent reviews on Amazon an it seems like some people had to completely uninstall and re-install in order to get the update. I don't really want to do that because I'm afraid the app would lose my saved data.

No problem. Maybe try clearing the data in the Amazon App or reinstalling it to see if it triggers? I just got the notification a few hours ago on mine. I got Swiftkey for free as well through Amazon free app of the day a while back.

I will add it is a free upgrade to those who have purchased in the past. I purchased it through amazon for free multiple times (different version) but I currently do not have the app store installed to confirm if the upgrade is available on amazon yet or not. Maybe some one can confirm that?

AndyPants 06-21-2012 12:45 PM

I highly recommend this keyboard. And the Holo theme is fantastic.

But I do recommend that people try the new Swype Beta 3. It includes traditional Swype as well as a new Swiftkey style mode where you can type with a very strong prediction engine that seems to be so far as good as Swiftkey's. Plus Swype's voice recognition is better than Swiftkey's,

Icon doesn't have anything to do with your app. It's just a thumbnail of their app. It'll change once sale is over.

This app is definitely worth the money. I recommend everyone to buy it during the sale.

It doesnt matter if it was on sale as long as you buy it from the play store.. you still get the benefits as if you paid full price.

I just got a Razr MAXX yesterday and have been struggling with the touch typing (coming from a BB). This app is pretty amazing so far. I can type something that looks like total garbage and it actually knew what I was trying to say...

kerms 06-21-2012 01:34 PM

How does this compare to the swype beta that came out yesterday? I always hated swype but this new beta is pretty killer.

Yeah I'm no where near the letters but it auto correct my text perfectly.

This doesn't have swype like feature like dragging your finger. Instead this predicts what you're going to say by analyzing what you've typed before.

mrmessma 06-21-2012 01:54 PM

Get it, I have it, it's amazing, period.

thinkfire 06-21-2012 01:59 PM

Where are you getting swype beta? I'll never give up dragging my fingers and typing 1 handed so easily with my thumb.

The word prediction is Swype got really bad. I thought it was just me, but after looking around, seems a lot of others noticed this too.

The new beta with word prediction a la swiftkey style is going to be rocking. Where did you guys pick it up at? It's not in the market.

Beta says it lasts for 6 months then expires. Just did it.

badzed 06-21-2012 02:22 PM

People, just try TouchPal, its better and free. I used both Swiftkey and Swype and for me TouchPal seems to be the best. You can "swype", there are multiple keyboard modes, there is built-in language support and skins, and on top of everything, the text prediction is pretty darn good. Just my two cents.

veekay 06-21-2012 02:22 PM

Thanks for the tip about getting this free if you had the GOTD on amazon - mine showed up when I checked. I used the beta of this and hated the changes over version 2 so hopefully they fixed though - will be backing up my data just in case.

itaintrite 06-21-2012 02:30 PM

If you're a two-thumb typist, Swiftkey is much much faster than Swype. Also much smarter. I would have gladly paid for the new v3 had it not been a free upgrade for existing users.

aviralmsharma 06-21-2012 02:30 PM

Super Keyboard!!

Majide 06-21-2012 02:36 PM

I love this keyboard! I snagged it on one of those days that Google Play had their 25 cent or 50 cent sales. Super handy, and yeah, there are times when it really predicts perfectly!

I just wish it understood when I type something like John's that it wouldn't change it to just John. I want the apostrophe S! :ranting:

Maybe they have improved that! :dontknow: If not, it is still extremely useful!

How did you get the free update? I have the amazon version swiftkey X installed on my device. When I goto google play, it says i have Swiftkey 3 installed with an update available. If i try to update it though, it tries to charge me the 1.99. I don't see an update for it in amazon apps. In my Amazon apps it shows Swiftkey X, but when i search for Swiftkey 3, it only gives me the option to open, not to buy. (it thinks its installed). If i look in the program itself, it's version Swiftkey X 2.2.0.159

endershadow 06-21-2012 03:15 PM

It just depends if you want to type or swype. Swype does take some training but I love it. I don't have any problems with auto correct and it's very fast once you get the hang of it. You can even type with one finger/one hand with Swype.

uberw00tness 06-21-2012 03:20 PM

samvillian 06-21-2012 03:36 PM

I can swype faster than most people i know can type. So yeah, i'm stickin with swype. For ever 100 words i write, it gets maybe 6 wrong. all i do is tap on the word and sure enough the word i meant was listed there.

easy peasy.

but i also own swiftkey :D

I tried Tablet beta on my TF101 and I did not like the key layout. Thumb Keyboard is much better for tablets. I got it free from Amazon FAOTD.

thinkfire 06-21-2012 05:30 PM

Got it.

Had a nightmare with it. Keeps clearing entire boxes of text. In fact, I came here to post a reply with it and it kept deleting everything in the box and putting the last word I typed in. I couldn't type a full sentence or anything to comment on the feedback.

Uninstalled it.

Back to my trusty Swype.

Great keyboard bought the X a while back and stumbled upon the beta a week or two ago. I was rather sad that the beta's copy "ran out" on the 26th. Even checked for updates this morning when I got home from work. Now I see that my X updates to 3! To me 3 is better than X so thanks for posting this thread and reminding me to check for updates again.

fbueller 06-21-2012 07:20 PM

Swype is great, but the beta's voice recognition is now Dragon rather than Google. Dragon is awful, Google was way better and there's no way I can tell to get it back. FAIL.

True that... just tried swiftkey for first time.. won't say I hate it, but i think Swype is much better for
1. People using the smaller keyboard/portrait view
2. People who hate pecking and clucking
3. Artistic people (the "flow" of this kind of typing cannot be matched
4. Impatient people, ie, swiftkey, when typing landscape with two thumbs, sucked when I tried to type really fast and many times I ended up pressing the next key a little too fast, ie, simultaneously, and it missed it and really screwed up the words, that was super annoying

It seems swiftkey is better for
1. Pure traditional typists.. it was surprisingly accurate even though my typing is not accurate at all at that speed, and also felt like I was still "typing" which I don't care for
anyways
2. On the larger/landscape keyboard.. Swype is actually faster and better on the smaller, less distance to travel, more screen space... but in landscape view with larger kb, swiftkey is the winner, but not sure why that would really be an overall advantage

Overall I think for good typists, swiftkey has the potential to be faster than a Swype typist, but for all the reasons mentioned above, I'll start with Swype.

Fyi, I don't like the Swype beta at all... maybe I have to mess with settings but
1. It keeps selecting whole words by default when I try to place cursor
2. The new handwriting thing looks cool but works horribly, ie, not really usually
3. The vibrate on key press for secondary keys vibrates only on initial key press, so you are not quite sure when the question mark actually executed.
4. The backspace/delete key is now the scrolling delete when held down instead of whole words delete.. maybe I am just used to the whole words delete, but I preferred that.. I feel like now I have to wait forever to delete a few words if need be, or even one longer word.

End of review and rant.

2. The new handwriting thing looks cool but works horribly, ie, not really usually

my biggest beef with swype is how to type punctuation, is there a guide to the little tips/tricks that make swype much better?

Like any punctuation? For the common ones like !, ?," etc., I just hold down the X, M or L keys etc... (LOL, XML...).. for any more of the secondary ones, I press the extra +!= key on the bottom left and it gives the whole rest of the options... never really found it annoying, then again, I used punctuation like once every 500 chars.

I havent really noticed a drop off in the voice recog feature, as long as i talk like HAL I find it ot be over ~95% accurate, which is just as good as my typing usually but faster and more effortless so....

Hmmm Skyvi is interesting, seems pretty good so far... more testing before I give full review.

Is there a way to disable the little pop up boxes that appear every time you type a letter? It didn't do that with the previous version but my phone updated via the Amazon App the other day and now it has that. I didn't see an option in settings anywhere

But Hell Yes! Swiftkey is the best keyboard there is. I love when I only have to type one or two letters of an entire sentence because it knows what I'm trying to say and it just fills in the words for me.

I noticed that too. Maybe there's a delay setting or something to speed it up.

Just purchased it for my tablet so I'll check it out at home.

I really like the layout of the HP Touchpad (WebOS) keyboard with separate row for numeric keys. Not sure if such a layout is available on Android.

Uhhg What's the difference between the Swiftkey 3 and the Swiftkey 3 Tablet?

The stock ICS keyboard doesn't, at least not with the AOKP version I'm running. Hacker's keyboard does and it's free. I don't remember if Gingerbread did or not it's been a more than a few months since I put ICS on mine.
*edit* added screen shot of hacker's keyboard. Has more keys than the webos one but since it's mean to replicate an actual PC keyboard it's supposed to have more keys.

Judging by the pictures the google play pages the keys look bigger and allows you to have a split keyboard option. I have swiftx 3 on my inspire 4g and I put it on my Touchpad, but haven't really used it on the TP yet. They keys on the TP even on large are pretty small with swiftx 3, this could be a pro or con for someone.
