WARNING: Phone Volume is really crappy.. (even at highest volume) a regular call to a home/cell sounds really low at your end, as well as other end also complains low volume. I tried different tools, volume+ didn't work fine for me(it made distorted), but Volume Rockers was better. all free apps i tried. But what the hell you buy 350+tax almost 400 phone and you have to have a bit compromise on the very basic feature of call quality. If its not an issue, you can be on top of it, I like for its sleek/screen etc.. except this one imp vol issue. Note: even with 4.1.2 there is no much diff i can recognize.

Runs latest Jelly Bean 4.1.2

Jellybean has been optimized for slicker performance (Project Butter), and includes Google Now, which is a competitor to Siri. Also note that this phone supports Google Wallet.

Siri vs Google...Fight

According to several forum posts, if you have a micro-sim card (used in iPhone 4/4S), you do not need a new sim or an adapter to use it in the Galaxy Nexus (which uses mini-sim card): just slide your micro-sim directly down the middle of the mini-sim slot in Nexus, and it should work.

This is a penta-band GSM phone for AT&T, T-Mobile, many prepaid providers, and the rest of the world. It is a world-phone in a very true sense because it's completely unlocked and supports all the major bands in use.

Galaxy Nexus Extended 2000mah battery. ebay [ebay.com] or cheaper here expansys [expansys-usa.com].
Please note that the NFC device used in Google Wallet and Google Beam need a compatible battery to function. A NFC-enabled battery costs more than the generics.

The screen is a pentile HD SuperAMOLED. It is very sharp, the contrast is great, the colors are vibrant, and it is very readable in the sun. Note that there are defects in the screen of some of the phones, so please look for any problems noted in this thread at XDA Developers. [xda-developers.com]

AT&T and T-Mobile both market their HSPA+ networks as "4G". So this phone will get you the non-LTE "4G" on AT&T. All of T-Mobile's "4G" currently is HSPA+.

Edit: It changes as you start checking out :)

Outrager 06-27-2012 09:31 AM

I just saw this as well. I hope this means they are releasing a new phone today. I was going to get the Galaxy S III, but it costs more than everyone else on T-Mobile, which is what I use.

$20 says there won't be a new phone today. This will be all about their Nexus Tablet. The phone was just released in October, so I wouldn't get your hopes up for a new Nexus Phone until fall (they want to coincide their release with the new iPhone).

Yes: no contract and carrier independence (international penta band) is why I loved Nokia before they turned. Google is doing it right so far

Thank you for contacting Google. It was my pleasure assisting you today.

When we offer a price reduction for an item you’ve purchased from Devices on Google Play, we’ll refund the difference in price if your purchase occurred within 15 days of the price reduction.

To receive a refund for the difference in price you must fill out our Devices on Google Play Price Protection form at

http://support.google.com/nexus/b...exus_price THE LINK WILL BE "Up and running in about an hour"

Looks like you're in luck if you purchased no earlier than June 12th. The price adjustment is NOT automatic, you have to request it using the link above. Good luck, folks.

I really love my Galaxy Nexus and can say it is really worth it for me. I forgot my charger over a memorial day weekend vacation and when I came back from vacation it still had 40% battery life left.

Phenominal phone.

jnthornh 06-27-2012 09:59 AM

Very, very nice. I bought the unlocked international version for my wife when it was a daily steal on ebay just a few weeks ago and I've been jealous of the device ever since - now it's finally back near that price point.

If Google's selling it for $350+tax though... I wonder what the next daily steal will be? I'm kind of inclined to wait at least a little bit.

branon 06-27-2012 10:04 AM

Awesome..watching the live stream of the new version of the OS...the galaxy s3 just became obsolete.

AriadnesThread 06-27-2012 10:05 AM

Quick question: If I'm already on a 3G data contract with AT&T and buy this phone, can I just put my old SIM card into this phone and my voice + 3G data plan would automatically work on this phone? (Don't have to call ATT or anything?)

Thanks. Just want to make sure there are no hassles or fees before I buy this.

It'll be interesting to see how the international one will change. I decided to go with Play store as it has a valid 1yr warranty in the US.

The $50 plan on this page: http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.co...y-4g-plans ?

It might be unlimited data, but only "*First 100MB at up to 4G speeds"

I agree with the first dude. Knowing Samsung and their non-Nexus handsets, it will take ~4-6 months for JB to roll out to the S3.

JackDGriffith 06-27-2012 10:21 AM

I checked it earlier today hoping it might drop with others coming out ( like the Samsung Galaxy S III ), but it hadn't. Thanks for the update!

not a bad deal considering you actually get a warranty with an unlocked phone.

Warranty information
Samsung provides a 12 month limited warranty for Galaxy Nexus.

Accessories are also covered by a 12 month limited warranty provided by Samsung. To review Samsung's warranty obligations and to obtain details on receiving warranty support, please find the Samsung limited warranty in the product box or visit Samsung USA support.

Devices which have been remotely disabled by Google cannot be repaired by Samsung.

The Galaxy Nexus features a 4.65-inch 1280×720-pixel HD Super AMOLED PenTile[35] curved glass display,[5] a dual-core 1.2 GHz TI OMAP 4460 processor (ARM Cortex-A9)[36] with an accompanying PowerVR SGX540,[37] 1 GB of RAM; a 1,750 mAh battery (1,850 mAh LTE version); 1.3 MP front camera and 5 MP rear camera (with zero shutter lag) capable of 1080p video with the rear camera and 720p with the front camera;[38] 4G; Wi-Fi a/b/g/n; Bluetooth; GPS, barometer; NFC;[33] and 16 GB or 32 GB of internal storage. The Galaxy Nexus lacks a microSD card slot and cannot operate as a USB Mass Storage Device(UMS). The device will still allow storage and access to internal memory through MTP protocol when connected to a PC that supports MTP.

So no SD slot, only 5mp camera, but 1080 video with HD out, wonder if it comes with the HDMI converter cable? according to What's In The Box:

Unlocked Galaxy Nexus GSM/HSPA+ phone
USB sync/charge cable
Dual-voltage USB wall charger
Stereo earbud headphones
Quickstart guide

Seems it does not come with the HDMI cable. Amazing screen! Decisions... decisions...

Wait, the specs don't match, this phone has no 4G, right? The wiki page claims 4G?

ShoonMcgregor 06-27-2012 10:42 AM

No HDMI cable included, I got mine from monoprice

http://www.monoprice.com/products...1&format=2

Screen is very nice and the battery life is phenomenal on this phone.

I would buy this now, and then upgrade to iPhone 5 in October and keep the unlimited plan.
I don't like iPhone, so I would sell it for profit right away. You should make about $450 in profit.

There're now 5 Nexus devices total. Galaxy Nexus was the third, and like the first two is a phone. The new Nexus 7 is the fourth but it's a tablet rather than a phone. The Nexus Q is the fifth, but it's a media device.

I really like this phone, but it comes with only 16GB of space and no way of expanding! In the age of cheap microSD cards it's essential to have one in a phone. I would bite if this were the 32GB version maybe.

They are moving away from expansion like that for a reason, it slows down the phone if you have things installed to it and just generally makes it less efficient. Really adding SD cards to phones was initially just supposed to be to move files over easily or to stash extra stuff. With cloud storage becoming more available, it's less important.

would this be a throw away of money to only use it with t-mobile prepaid plans, non data, i bought 100 worth of minutes and can buy 50bucks now and it is still good for a year. I rarely use my phone for talking , At home i have landlines that i find more comfortable. I would pay for data if it wasnt at the month to month plan, after years on a carrier plan i went prepaid and save a lot of money. I can get wifi at all trainstations , that is faster than 3/4g, and many nyc parks have free WiFi,plus every coffeeshop, macd's and everybody else. If i could buy it for emergency and have 6 months to a year to use it, i would, but no more plans for me. I save enough to buy mice phones like this, probably in tax savings alone. i think the nevus would be able to use gps and gmaps without going on line,if maps were predownloaded. I have a samsung exhibit II that has been nothing but a POS since day one,but i can talk when i need to.
i was thinhing of rooting it to solve problems, but may be able to return and let them fix and buy this. But dont want overkill using wi-fi only

That is complete rubish. The new Sandisk cards get over 40MB/s and are only increasing in time. Lacking microSD cards in phones is a step back. Android isn't the best when managing external files on an SD card, you can't blame the hardware on the OS's poor functionality.

Samsung has it down perfectly, having 16GB of internal flash memory for applications and other essentials, and an optional SD card slot for a theoretical 1TB of additional space. And what about the cloud? Try streaming an uncompressed 1080p movie over the network, it will choke in most cases even on LTE.

just to make sure, this only works on T-mobile 3g, not the 4g right?

I'm in the same situation as you. I save soo much money each month by going prepaid with T-mo. I would get a data plan if the data plan works exactly as their prepaid minutes when it comes to expiration. But it looks there there is no such data plan available at the moment???

Gysper 06-27-2012 11:11 AM

Might bite on this bcus my plan is grandfathered so I dont get the discount for upgrading. If it works on t-mobile, great!

I really would like a micro SD card slot as well.

Is there a cable/adapter setup available that would allow attaching external SD card or USB stick to then output a movie via HDMI?

Or does this phone not support any external storage?

Will it output to HDMI from internal storage w/the correct cable/adapter?

It's not a limitation in the capability of the card, it's just one more thing for the phone to manage that they'd prefer to simplify in order to streamline everything. For a device that's jam packed with features in a small package, and one where people are already complaining about things like battery life, having it manage less hardware will make it more efficient.

Wonder if this card reader and USB connector will work with GNex

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006MJZOMW/

This has USB/SD Card/Micro SD inputs.
And it has Micro USB power input to help power external device (like external harddrive). So shouldn't use your phone battery much if you have Micro USB plug in to power the device.

Anyone else know something similar that work for GNex for sure?

Depends on how old your account is. If it was before Aug 21, 2009, then you should be good. We upgraded our family plan before that and got 5 Nokia e71x's without being forced to get data plans and I switched over to a Palm Pre+ in 2010 without issues.

Yes.

"Unlocked and contract free: This Galaxy Nexus is an unlocked GSM phone that will operate on more than 200 GSM providers worldwide, including AT&T and T-Mobile in the US."

GSM/EDGE/GPRS (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
3G (850, 900, 1700, 1900, 2100 MHz)
HSPA+ 21

So will work with pretty much every GSM data plan.

This has 2(TWO) 1.2Ghz processor and 1GB RAM and you say that having an SD card will slow it down? My old G2 has 1(ONE) 800Mhz CPU/512MB RAM and has SD card slot and it does not slow down nor does not drain the battery because it has an SD card.

Also, as the other guy said, a 16GB 40MBps Micro SD card are cheap nowadays-- $17 at costco, everyday price.

Not true. TMobile does not blacklist devices. My colleague called in last week to report a stolen phone and all they had to offer was how sorry they felt. Lol.

And yes, I am still comparing a slightly used device, cause it's a Galaxy Note instead of Nexus. And "used" nexus are going for about $275 atm.

CL should probably never be compared again with SD though, coz of the stigma associated with CL and how YMMV the deals could be.

ShoonMcgregor 06-27-2012 11:34 AM

collarman 06-27-2012 11:34 AM

Just ordered one. I was on the fence last night and gladly I think the price drop made it more appealing for me this morning. I was debating between this or the galaxy s3, however all tmobile stores around me have sold out of the galaxy and ALL don't have them available in white. I am currently on an iphone 4s with an att mvno (redpocket) prepaid and they throttle your data so it sucks big time. I was never keen on prepaid, but it seems they have come a long way now. You basically get the same service, no tax, no contract and the only shortfall is not having lost/theft insurance or subsidized pricing. But who cares when you make up for it in the long run anyways. Besides I just saw tmobile offers 5 gig data, unlimited text/mobile for $70 bucks! can't beat this deal when essentially the same service cost a quarter more on the plan! Now back to the phone, I think it will be a great phone. I had the galaxy s2 and loved it! To be honest with you, I been switching back and forth between android and iphone 4s a few times already. But I loved the phone form factor, google maps navigation and how durable samsung phones are. I think the resale value of the phone is good too. By the way if you're on the fence between a phone now and the iphone 5 (if it even gets announced) get this for now and you can always switch over. I personally don't have a "preference" or "fanboy" of either platform because I love technology and both have their shortfalls. Good deal.

I agree with the first dude. Knowing Samsung and their non-Nexus handsets, it will take ~4-6 months for JB to roll out to the S3.

Exactly. This is fp worthy and the top android phone simply because it has the newest OS. Also people can begin to learn not to get suckered into new contracts. Compared to competition no phone can come close to all these features at this pricepoint (nfc, 720p HD, 4.1, free tethering built in, pentaband etc)

Controlling more hardware has nothing to do with processing power. I'm not saying the device is incapable of managing this device, it's just one more thing to manage. You have no farking clue whether your old G2 is slower because of the SD slot vs. if it didn't have one. You have no frame of reference. It mostly certainly slower if you're booting anything off of that SD. Anyone that's ever booted ANYTHING from an SD card KNOWS how much it slows down any device.

I always felt carriers overpriced the unlocked phones. Now with Nexus (what ??8 months old?) it is already 350 , thanks to Google. I feel Google should go one step further and tie up with manufacturers and have their phones on Play store as well. With Nexus at 350 , we might have an international version of S2 at 250 . This will force carriers to be more reasonable with their prices and also garner more market share from Apple , Microsoft(do they have any marketshare now ?? heheh )...Ohh boy !!!

Some places in ME have unlocked phones cheaper than they are in the US. Galaxy S3 is AED 1,999 in Dubai, which comes to $550 approx.

You don't really need to buy from carriers, there are a lot of e-tailers that sell unlocked phones for much cheaper than carriers and also offer warranties every now and then.

I just got mine. It runs perfectly fine on T-Mobile's network, and gets HSPA+ data (what Tmo calls "4G").

jkt1009 06-27-2012 12:21 PM

I had this phone on Verizon. It looked and felt great. I loved having a phone that came without a bunch of bloatware on it. Problem is this phone got horrible reception. Places were I had coverage with my old phone were all of a sudden "black holes". Battery sucked too. I sent it back and got a Razr Maxx.

BoognishMinion 06-27-2012 12:21 PM

I just purchased an Evo V 4G on Virgin Mobile with $45 monthly plan (1200 minutes). Trying to decide if I should return the Evo V and switch to T-mobile 4G $50 unlimited with Galaxy Nexus? Appreciate any input! Thank you!

Yeah I wouldn't trust Sammy to put ANYTHING on these phones. My vibrant never even got 2.2 OTA (yes, I know I can go out to find and install it, but that's not exactly forefront support). Total and utter fail on support of the phone. Not going with Samsung again unless they really have something that nobody else can touch.

Agreed. My T-Mobile SGS2 just got ICS earlier this month and it's awful. The phone freezes randomly, stutters all over the place, bugs with Bluetooth and... ICS has been out for almost a year! I mean come on Samsung!

Their hardware is excellent. Software? :vomit:

Yeah, the S3 will get JB in 4-6+ months, with additional carrier lag time and TouchWiz modification.

Don't expect developers to push out bug-free versions of JB before that timeframe, either.

The Snapdragon S4 1.4GHz in the U.S. S3 (and U.S. One X) is in fact significantly faster than the 1.2GHz TI OMAP in the Galaxy Nexus. But it doesn't matter when you're talking the next iteration of 4.0 with all the smoothness improvements it brings to the table.

Come Mid-July the Nexus will fly compared to the S3 in general use, all on inferior hardware specifications.

lostmybandaide 06-27-2012 12:52 PM

I got one for 430 about 3 months ago. Drop the phone one day and cracked the screen. Was quoted 250-280 to fix it at the local store. But I heard Samsung would do it for 166. However! They could not fix it BC it is a Samsung UK phone. Ended up selling it on criaglist for 250. Glad o could replace it for 100 extra today. Didnt want to drop 600 on a s3. And the us s3# are only dual core. Great deal

justm3 06-27-2012 12:52 PM

You should try listening to what's being said, it helps. They were showing the old Nexus because it's still the flagship phone and it's the first device that will get the new OS they're announcing: Jelly Bean. All of the features they were talking about today will first be seen on the Galaxy Nexus (and the new tablet) within a couple of weeks, and is unlikely to trickle down to other devices for months.

I/O was just as much about new software as new hardware, why wouldn't they show how it works with what's already their flagship phone?

I have been running the phone since Mid-May.

$30 T-Mobile plan with 100min/Unlimited Text/Unlimited Data (5GB of it HSPA+) I use Skype for voice most of the time.

I have not had any issues with the phone. It is larger than my old EVO 4G but it is much lighter and I think a better pocket phone.

I guess the lack of SD slot should suck but the fact of the matter is I am either in a decent data speed zone or on WiFi all of the time and all of my media is on Music, Amazon or my Pogoplug so I just don't need the space for anything right now.

xon3R4Te 06-27-2012 01:16 PM

It's an outdated piece of hardware so it's hardly a steal at $350. Surprised this is FP.

Is the Galaxy S II a better choice for T-mobile? I just placed an order for it last night when GS2 is free at T-mobile.com. Can I use T-mobile GS2 when I travel to other countries since it does have the band 2100? I also remember somebody here said you could cancel the plan and pay $200 ETF for the GS2, if this is true, GS2 is much cheaper.

For those that want to use Micro SD card, wonder if this card reader and USB connector will work with GNex phone
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006MJZOMW/
This has USB/SD Card/Micro SD inputs.
And it has Micro USB power input to help power external device (like external harddrive). So shouldn't use your battery much if you have Micro USB plug in to power the device.

The S3 is twice as fast. The Nexus has two outdated cores vs two new cores in the s3 and One X. What doesn't consumers get about that?

The quad core phones currently have 4 of the old ARM Cortex a9 cores as well. They are only roughly the same as fast as dual core ARM Cortex A15. In many instances, quad core is slower.

It mainly depend on your needs and if you have good T-Mobile and/or AT&T coverage.

My Humble Opinion: CHANGE SOONEST to TMobile 4G :)

You will Love It & Be Glad You Did !!

I was with VM with Optimus V on OLD $25 Plan (sucked only having 300Mins)
I then upgraded to Moto Triumph, I liked the phone but Speeds Still NOT above 1.0Mbps

So I made a stand - Sold the V & Triumph with the $25 Plan
I'm currently on $30 Unlimited Data/Text with 100 Minutes on an HTC Amaze

My Average speeds: 3-5 Mbps - Great Signal goes up to 9-14Mbps :)
If I was in your shoes, yes, I'd go with the $50 plan & check e*ay & CL for
pre-paid cards at 90% face value...

I'm currently looking to get the S3 - I love the 4G, Justin.tv, Netflix, etc.

Hope this Helps -

duglas 06-27-2012 01:44 PM

I just ordered a Galaxy S3 from Tmobile today for the same price.. I can eBay it and have enough to buy one of these and a Nexus Tablet!!!
