Some guy on Craigslist is selling one for $280 with the docking station.. He says he forgot the password and no charger... What is the worse that could happen if it turned out to be stolen?

Bs alert. Probably tf101 ask for picture and make him put your name on paper.

RHCCapri 07-14-2012 03:40 PM

The new TF700 is a higher resolution and better performing version of the TF101. The TF700 is just out and hard to find.

Screen resolution 1920 x 1200

+1

Uh, how about being arrested for being in possession of stolen property - a felony:nod:

I can see the interview now

But officer, I bought it from a guy on Craigslist and got a really good deal!

Officer replies - well, why do you think he was selling it so cheaply?

Reply, well, um, I think it maybe stolen... but I asked on SlickDeals about it!

NoahO 07-14-2012 04:32 PM

this gotta be a fluke, Office Depot has had this up since around 8pm yesterday. Unless people really aren't that interested. Newegg was up for a few hours today. Only GR 32GB, GR 64GB went fast

If you wait long enough, almost everything will fall under a predetermined value. There's no magic formula at work here.

Don't know how you came up with that one when most rumors pegged it at $199

LOL, yeah!
But I think this 6 months (From This July to December) the market gonna see some great rate cuts.

Then the race again gonna start afresh next year because of new A15 Quad Core based devices and then the cycle continues :)

genisys 07-14-2012 07:05 PM

By then you would consider waiting for something else (new) to drop in price, and the cycle continues.

phonic 07-14-2012 07:24 PM

I canceled my pre-order for this at J&R yesterday. Would have gotten it for about $450 after coupons and cashback. I've been following all the threads on XDA, as these have been released overseas for a couple weeks now, and the news isn't very good (IMHO). The I/O performance is horrible - worse than the Prime. And the out of the box performance scores are pretty bad too. While the latter could be fixed via a SW update or custom kernel/ROM, the I/O stuff is probably HW related.

I went with the Nexus 7 instead, for half the price, and am quite happy with my decision.

deshwasi 07-14-2012 07:36 PM

thanks for the info. i will wait this out. may stick with prime or goto the nexus.

You have that the TF101 and TF201 confused. The TF201 is the Transformer Prime, and the TF700 is the higher resolution, slightly faster version of the TF201 (also with not GPS and wifi issues). The TF101 is the original Transformer, which is a decent tablet, but is much slower and bulkier than the TF201, 300, and 700 series devices.

cavan 07-14-2012 08:05 PM

so its normal price wheres the deal

cavan 07-14-2012 08:19 PM

shipping is of the vanilla 3-5 business day variety, so it probably wouldn't be any faster than walking down to Best Buy come Monday (or even getting Amazon's 2-day shipping)

tenderidol 07-14-2012 09:52 PM

TristianX 07-14-2012 10:47 PM

I was waiting for this tablet to come out but Asus deliberately delayed it's release to allow TF201 a little more shelf life, TF300 a little more time to establish itself and the Nexus Tablet they're making for google to carve out it's own niche. Because of the delaying I decided not to wait for it - it's 1080p resolution and Tegra 3 SoC but frankly there's nothing about this tablet that makes it that special. 1080p will become the standard (probably the bare minimum resolution) soon enough and Tegra 3 is looking a little old right now it was released in Nov 2011. I made the choice of going with a Sony Tablet S (and what a fine device that is) so I had a tablet to play with now which i would keep around for the awesome infrared remote functionality and PS1 game compatibility while I wait for the next wave of tablets to come out like the Microsoft Surface Pro and the "Hybrid PC" form factor which includes the Asus Taichi which is an ultrabook with i7 capabilities that doubles as a tablet too and Samsung is readying their Hybrid PC.

IMADMUN 07-14-2012 11:24 PM

I had a TF-101. Swype stopped working at all. I sent it back because of light bleeding. Then I got a keyboard dock which stopped charging after 5 weeks. Had to send that back too. Android integration wasn't seamless. Then they came out with the Transformer Prime which had so many wifi connection issues they issued two patches which didn't work then sent everyone a plug in fob. I don't trust Asus. Forever.

Yeah, but those "hybrid devices" you speak of will probably be priced at $600 and up. So you're basically paying the price of a core i7 laptop for a tablet.

1080p won't be standard for quite a while on Android-based tablets. It will take at least a year for the 1280 x 800 resolution tablets to make their way out of the retail chain. Most people, outside of business professionals and power-users, don't want to shell out $500/$600 for a 1080p tablet. Some might be more willing if Surface Pro can run all the Windows-based applications we are accustomed to.

The only other 1080p Android competition is the Acer Iconia Tab A700.
See the wiki here for a comparison:
THREAD

Maybe if Samsung or Toshiba brings out a device at $500 with superior specs, that could push some price movement. Until then, I wouldn't expect much in the form of sales.

MicroCenter will probably sell the 32 GB TF700 for $449.99 once they receive their shipment of them. I've been keeping an eye on it and nothing yet.

De-Cuss 07-15-2012 12:11 AM

random conclusion: Asus saved the solid hardware components for Google nexus(per google request) , they will make huge profits with its storage limitation...cloud etc...the new transformers will have only the sd slot working properly ,so we will have to buy google nexus(after drooling over the quad nexus@ $199 but still loving Asus transformers @ $499) even if we hate not having the sd slot, then google play will live happily charging us for the micro space called cloud on a server some where in alaska and itunes will watch and laugh at the loyal android lovers:eek: i need to go to sleep ,and dream about a nexus with 2 sd slots.:sleepy:

huddy17 07-15-2012 02:26 AM

I was half tempted back at the beginning of June to hold steady for this guy after reading all the E-Hype being built up on it at the time but soon remembered that I am more of an immediate gratification type so did some internet research and review reading and settled on the new(ish) Toshiba Excite 10 tablet. Great device. No regrets. Some complain about light bleed but I haven't noticed any at all on my unit.

Just got my in stock email and ordered (like you). Saving $40 in tax was a good enough reason to buy from NewEgg.

Now to find a dock for it, I believe all the prime series docks work with it.

Should be compatible. If I recall, TF201 is Prime and Infinity and Prime share the same dock.

Ordered and immediately canceled from Amazon. Says estimated delivery of Aug 13-Aug31st. WTF? Newegg is OOS now too. Want FS and no tax.

deymayor 07-16-2012 09:35 PM

If you still remember how it was when the 1st transformer came up, Amazon was delayed a couple of days but certainly not 3-4 weeks. If they start fulfilling orders from Newegg or TD, Amazon will ship theirs in a few days. I line in NJ so Newegg is not an option and I don't trust TDs return policy compared to Amazon so I'll wait for now.

Yup. What deymayor said. I got an email update at 12:08 this morning after putting in an order for the Gray 32GB model on Sunday. It says that it's shipping soon and the estimated delivery is for July 20th. Granted, the gray model on Amazon is listed "In Stock" right now while the champagne color is still listed as 3 - 4 weeks.

I've found the grey in-stock in a couple of places (Tiger Direct (no FS), Best Buy (tax), New Egg (in stock briefly)) but haven't seen the champagne available yet. Of course, this is the color my wife wants.
