Just hit the "Explore" tab at the bottom and then click on the button that defaults to "Top Picks" and change it to "Specials." The ones near you with this deal will pop up.

See it in my area too and actually seems to be at alot more places that previous promos (though unfortunately my iphone is now too old to use foursquare app anymore so will need to borrow someones phone XD)

What kind of locations? Restaurants?

It will just be random "small businesses" that take AMEX, though the majority of them will generally be resturants.

Can I just take advantage of each location or I can only do once out of several locations? I saw a lot of restaurants that I usually go anyways and it would be awsome if I could do for all of them.

It is 1x across all the retailers .. not 1x at each retailer.

Darn the place I had lunch at today qualifies for this deal. Hopefully it will be around still when I have an appetite for that food again.

As with every single sync amex deal ever, all that matters is what the credit card charge shows up as, and whether it's more than the minimum spending requirement (in this case $10).

Thanks! It isn't at too many locations in my area but it is available at my favorite froyo place. They usually also have the small business promos available.

On July 4th, I was at Giordanos Rush Street Chicago and AMEX offered me $10 off $20 or above for checking in on Foursquare :D.

Yes it will. AMEX will only see the total charge. Not how much your pizza cost pre-tax

if you did this promo at the same place a few months ago, would it still work today? the same place i used it at is listed.

Amex fail. I checked-in on foursquare and proceeded to add the amex offer to my card. I made a phone order and when I arrived at the restaurant, they told me they DIDN'T ACCEPT AMERICAN EXPRESS!

Why is the promotion advertised for a merchant that doesn't even accept amex as payment?

I was checking into my lunch spot today and saw the offer. Great find!

Sometimes business dont even realize that they technically have AMEX on their merchant account, someone in the boston promo or something went to a shop and they said they didnt take it, but tried swiping it anyway and it worked.

It will for sure. All that matters is the total charge on your card, whatever it's for.

I haven't done this yet, but when I checked this morning, it seemed like every restaurant in my area was offering this deal! AMEX must offer the 5 off 10 for small business type places, I think you can load multiple offers so it should be 1 across each retailer.

I have 3 amex cards so I'm thinking about buying gift cards in $10 transactions to a bunch of these places

Does anybody know when this offer will end? Like when's the last day to "check in"?

No, with these foursquare ones it is one total, it just requires you to load specific places for it to count.

Technically he can sync each of his cards to a different foursquare account, and when he loads the offer to each of them and makes $10 purchase or more on each, it will work for each card.

Not entirely sure if they work for GC or not, don't see why not.

Yeah he can do it once for each of his cards, but he cant do it 3 times at every single place which is what it sounds like he was planning to do.

Yep looks like you're right. I went ahead and tried anyways though because the app allowed me to check in to three places that offered the deal then I loaded the deals for all 3 places. I then went and spent $10 at each of the three businesses and I got foursquare confirmation from the second one(5 hours after the first??) and now when I check my foursquare all the 10 for 5 deals are gone.

I took screenshots of the loaded deals so I'll probably try and have amex reimburse me for the other 2 deals I bought that won't get credited. But if not, no worries. I still have 3 other amex cards that i can create foursquare accounts for and get $15 for $30.

Check your foursquare messages. My confirmation is still in there.

Some retailers accept AMEX but will not admit to or employees instructed not to accept it. AMEX charges higher fees than MC/VISA/DISC.


I ran into the same situation 2 days ago with restaurant who did not accept it. Afterward change story to only accept it with $20.00 Minimum. They keep insisting on VISA or cash. Luckily, my coworker pay cash for both our transaction. She was planning to use AMEX too on separate transaction..


We went back to our table and reduce the tip to 50¢ (25¢ each) versus $3.00. Our server was the owner, so we did not deprive any hired server.

Not sure which place I will eventually use (or sometimes the places will claim to not accept AMEX...), can I check into multiple places and just use it at any of those places to get the credit? Don't have data on my phone, so gotta use wifi at home..

Just Warning, it 1 time use promotion. Use it once regardless of restaurant, and offer is gone.

There is no unlimited use at same venue or multiple venues.

Maybe my account is broken or something, when I First added it to my card I had the same special listed twice. After using it at one place, I got the credit, and still had the special listed, so used it at a different place on the same card. Both credits came through. So don't be afraid to try it if you still get the offer and were gonna spend $10 anyway. :bounce:

these are awesome. just got an amex card. i like that the retailer doesn't have to be shown anything and thus won't make a dissatisfied face at me.

Ok I was at a restaurant that has this special offer, however, the button "load to card" was gray. I hit on it anyways and told me to check in that restaurant to get the offer. I was sitting at the restaurant already.:confused: Can anyone tell me what I did wrong?

you have to check-in to the place to unlock the specials....
