ASUS UX31E-RSL8 Ultrabook $576.50 - Staple's Clearance - YMMV B&M

1 Attachment(s)
Just went to my local staples and found this:
ASUS UX31E-RSL8 Ultrabook $576.50

SKU 408475
But it doesn't work on the inventory check, you may try your luck by searching the model on Google Shopping

I think it may be a good price for those who want a Ultrabook, it comes with i5, 4GB, 128GB SSD.

Photo attached.

This post can and should be edited by users like you :)

Try to ask the rep to check inventory using the in-store system to check the SKU or check in-person in store, you may still get luck, but the quantity is very very very limited.

THIS LAPTOP IS NO LONGER IN STOCK AT MOST OF THE STAPLES ACCORDING TO CUSTOMER SERVICE

"we've been getting calls all morning"

Full specs here. [officedepot.com]

Heroin 08-18-2012 07:03 PM

i5-2467M Processor

Great CPU but ridiculously overpriced for a 17W chip. 17W and 25W AMD Trinity chips are coming and will start at this price. Not to mention windowsRT devices and smartbooks are coming.

sanrou 08-18-2012 07:09 PM

Frankly speaking ASUS ultrabooks are the only real competitor of macbooks in terms of design. Samsung series 9, HP folio are pretty decent but they don't rock. Lenovo and dell are not up there yet. Well I may get lot of heat by this statement but this is just my point of view.

If I find this, I will be buying. It's a solid machine, and very slick at that price.

Design aside there are plenty of ultrabooks that top the asus line/macbooks with features eg the toshiba Z at 2.4lbs. But yes the asus ultrabooks are the only good looking ultrabooks in my opinion as well.

leoele 08-18-2012 08:49 PM

This is a great deal. TU and a Rep for the heads up. There's a staples across the street from my apartment and I'll be checking it out tomorrow morning.

DON'T CALL THE STORE TOMORROW FOR AVAILABLE STOCK. Follow these simple steps so store employees aren't alerted to this deal!

1.) Call their customer serivce #: 1-800-378-2753
2.) Press or say "One" to get a live customer service rep.
3.) Ask them to do a SKU lookup of 408475
4.) Then give them your zip code.
5.) They will tell you where it is near you and how much of the item is in stock.
6.) Go to the store and get your item without ever alerting the employees to this deal.

*Credit goes to Cfriedla who posted this info many months ago on another topic.:thanks:

Inpact 08-18-2012 08:59 PM

If you live in San Francisco, you would have a high chance of snagging one of these. Lots of store has 1-3 in stock. It will be over $600 after tax though. Not that great of a deal.

dreamexecution 08-18-2012 09:12 PM

Is the price nationwide though?

IntoBeing 08-18-2012 09:22 PM

You all are forgetting the $50 off laptop coupon. Works on clearance laptops.

nobody really wants these so you dont need to get all hyped up and be all secretive about this.

by no means am i saying that this is a bad deal, just saying its not that big of a deal

and honestly i dont think anyone saying asus looks the best have ever seen a series 9 in person

I don't know, I think this is a heck of a deal. Microsoft had the Samsung S9 UB on their site for $799 and it was a great deal, it has the same specs as this Zenbook but w/ a backlit keyboard. This doesn't have the backlit keyboard but for about $600 after tax, this UB is an amazing deal. This all depends again if you're looking for super thin UB's and not a high spec gaming laptop.

Also, what's this about the $50 off coupon? I'm looking over my Staples emails and I can't seem to find one that isn't expired.

If you download the Staples app on Android (not sure if any other OS has a Staples app), there is a check-in button, with some coupons that would come up.

Anyone have the old staples android app, the updated one doesn't work properly, keeps giving the error about not being able to determine if I'm at the store given the location provided by the phone's gps. Therefore no check in coupons either.

have you installed a location spoofer?

Considering the closest Staples near me is about 60 miles away, think Office depot will price match it? Always worth a try?

I used location spoofer in the past with my other phone but now with my new phone, I only installed the updated staples app from the market and I was physically in the store. It found that I was in the store but it gave the error about checking in no matter how many times I tried. Maybe I need to use location spoofer? dont think it would matter.

Lots of companies have very Decent thin and light laptops.

Mantion 08-19-2012 12:20 AM

The touch pad is centered between the "B" and "N" key. Thus your right hand will hang over the edge of the touch pad just slightly and for people like me this will be annoying. I am sure a lot of you can get used to it, but I can't.. A proper laptop will center the touch pad on the "B" so that the palms overlap the touch pad equally.

What exactly will they have to go on for a pricematch, this slickdeals thread and a picture of a price sticker. The answer to both your questions would be no, unless your OD manager wants to be forced to peruse other job opportunities effective immediately.

What if someone was to post a receipt? I don't think it's as cut and dry as you say. I've received a pricematch at Office Depot with a receipt before. It may be difficult because it's a clearance item, and a receipt will probably list it as such, but it's not impossible.

I dont know if these can be compared, but I was looking at getting the TF700 with dock, but this being slightly bigger for the same price as the tablet+keyboard, without the touchscreen and apps, may get this. They serve different purposes though, as I see one as for entertainment and the other for productivity. Would be nice to see something that does both of those worlds well.

zagguru 08-19-2012 06:36 AM

anyone know why the inventory checker is down?

sashazh 08-19-2012 06:40 AM

How probable is the situation where the rep says there're none in stock, and there actually are some in stock in the store?
That is, is it really not even worth a 20 minutes walk to double check?

dtran11 08-19-2012 06:44 AM

The wide border of the asus make it unnecessarily bigger for a 13.3 inch laptop. I think the samsung looks better. Also the hard drive size (128GB) is kind of small. I would like to use it for work. I do a lot of Linux compilations which take a lot of space. I think I'll wait for 256GB to get cheaper.

more123 08-19-2012 06:59 AM

Not saying this is a bad product but HP Folio is much better looking imo.

ListenLoud 08-19-2012 07:13 AM

yes they are very different as you imagined. honestly even still to date, a tablet experience does not come even close to that of a PC.

If you've got neither a tab or a laptop right now, i suggest getting the laptop over the tab especially at the same price, any day of the week.

tablets even while they're more portable, believe it or not, a hassle to lug around and they stay at home most of the time and only time when they are good for is when you're in bed or couch laying around, playing around with it.

plus when it comes to the real stuff, a PCs gotta do it, and they do not lack in entertainment area either.

Vauxhaull (millburn) had a few of these as of last week, they still had the tags up from july with the old price. Also, I think I saw the display at the Rt. 22 store in springfield, might as well check them both if you want, they're like 5 minutes apart.

I got the same response from a rep about a camera. I just told her to use the in-store system and look up the SKU anyway, then she came back saying that my local store had 2

I partially agree. I have a TF700 with the dock as well as a Asus Zenbook Prime(the best buy db51 variant) and I can do a very large portion of what I need to do on my tablet. The only reason I have my ultrabook is due to the fact that my 2 most used compilers won't run directly on android. If I find a way to install Windows 8 RT on here, I will be set. It is just a matter of Microsoft releasing it more than simply to first party devs.Tablets will be wonderful for mobile usage in about a year. Right now they are slightly lacking though

Worked like a charm.
called the 1-800 number, asked for my zipcode.
there was only 1 left, i drove 25 minutes before they opened,
i printed the OP picture, gave it to them. they came back 10 minutes after with the last one in hand.
paid 576(not including the tax) total 610$ walked out the door with the zenbook.
thank you OP!

the Towson staples have 2 UB on the show table, which are different model, one is this, one is about 850. So I just photoed the clearenced one's tag, they should have it in stock because they do even have one on the show table

I do actually see one yesterday, the UB is on the show table along with the tag. I didn't buy one because I don't need a Ultrabook right now, a ASUS Gamer or Alienware is my style :D

I didn't realize this UB is impossible to find as the Towson Staples I wen't is really hot, it is right next to a big shopping center, and all the $1 $2 1cent 2cent stuffs has been robbed in that store, but the UB survived, that's why I thought you guys may get luck in other stores and I shot the pic. Actually I get a glue and a packing tape as you can see in the photo :worship:

First off, I didn't say anything derogatory about the rep. My comment was in regards to you, not the lady. I was saying that I find it ironic that you call other people on this forum dicks for calling in to the 800 number yet it's blatantly obvious that you did the same exact thing. Helloooo...

Thanks for posting. I was able to snag the last one at my local store and they even threw in a display model discount! I picked it up after they wiped it clean and found out it came with a sleeve.

I didn't catch her name, sorry.

I went early this morning right when they opened since the OP said calling wouldn't help, and I got the display model. The salesperson was extremely helpful and actually called places for me to see if they had anything other than the display, but they didn't, so I got the display--with the display discount!

So you get it for 520 before tax? That is a good price:cool:
Asus make good laptop when it comes to an expensive one, the UB is obviously one of them. If I were you I won't buy that 2yr care to save some bucks, btw shouldn't this laptop come with at least one year warranty? So actually you got 1 year extend or 2 years? ;)

The rep didn't say it came with it and suggested the 2 year warranty and not the extended plan. Knowing my experience with laptops (and that this was a display model...), it was better for me personally; even with the 2 year warranty, it ended up falling beneath my budget! Thanks again!

Ok, sounds great ;)
Just a kindly reminder, I searched on the web, the Ultrabook should come with 1 year warranty, so I suggest you to turn for Asus for help if any problems occur in the 1st year. Because the way Asus do the warranty is like "Oh, this part is defective, let's just replace it with a new part". Also, even if you are not feel good with some parts (like you feel they screen is not working properly, but actually it works fine...), you can just call Asus and they will replace it for you. Hmmm this is the experience from me and my friend, hope this will help you:bounce:

needgeech 08-19-2012 10:53 AM

Extra $25 OD coupon

Just got an email from OD. . .extra $25 off Asus or Toshiba Clearance laptops and desktops. Should be able to use this at Staples if you can find one of these UB.

iamcyclopseatme 08-19-2012 01:38 PM

Nothing here ;/ Not even sold in these parts.

Get your facts straight. When did I accuse you of saying anything? Customer service is one of the worse jobs there is. This is what i said in quote.

I know some people will get upset over that, but the majority mature people of the forum will agree. As someone who worked in CS this was one of the most annoying / angry questions you could ask. Is it in stock? Can you check? Check again!? Why Why?

You seem like a young angry man that jumps the gun quick. I hope I didn't offend you or the forum.

So a lurker, now new SDer, got the laptop from Op's location...thats good to know. Congrats. I almost scored one myself, but the manager couldn't find it. I felt he did try looking for it for me and just couldn't find it, so oh well. I did see this laptop in Best Buy and don't feel I missed out, so will take a look at other options.

I just snagged one in NYC! Thanks op! Repped!

I think this might be usable. Will help reduce the tax burden.

Yippp, while this was a pretty big YMMV deal, I feel at least we might luck out on a 3rd gen UB with at least a backlit keyboard and some what better specs. It's always been down to a Sammy S9 or a Zen for me. and with BF right around the corner, hopefully we luck out soon enough.

yeah you really did not. this one receives some of the worse, way worse reviews among the first gen ultrabooks.

Yet I did a search tonight and this was listed as top 5 or 10 UB. Another in that top list was the HP Folio 13. I am now looking at the HP Spectre 14" with 1600x900 resolution, but I know I won't see a "deal" on those for a few months.

I been looking at that exact one as well! Something about it that I just love, but been refreshing that same page once/twice a day hoping it would drop from $1.3k to $800 or so lol. From its size, you could easily put in a 2.5inch SSD and probably upgrade it in the future with little to no trouble and still having a great resolution with an amazing aesthetic looking UB.

Staples will match this, and if you order it with cashback, 5% or so, that puts you closer to $1k. BUT, if you save your Staple rewards from recycling ink everyone month, that will definitely help cut into the cost.

I think I have my eye set on this one as well. I sometimes would like to have a blu ray included, but some would say that defeats the purpose of an UB in terms of weight, but I rather not need it and then have to get a USB dvd drive when it was needed.
